I've read, and loved, a lot of the author's books, but this one fell flat for me and I'm really bummed about it.
It felt very repetitive in the way the main characters were describing everything (calculating, reading, three am). Not much of a big twist. I almost quit a few times, but pushed on because another review talked about the twists it has. Sadly, I should have stopped and left it there.

After waiting patiently for weeks and weeks for this to be available in paperback finally, I must say I was a bit disappointed. Now I understand why there were so many reviews here and on social media as to this not being his best work and a detour from his usual style. It was. The story itself moved odd, sort of like when you skip every other frame in a video... that kind of stilted result... that is how it read most of the time for me. I did not like either of the characters and could not become invested in their lives or outcomes. I also knew exactly who it was and the ending halfway through the book so no real twists and turns there, no surprise ending for me. It wasn't a bad book, just not his usual and I think we are all spoiled by that usual style. It was an okay read.

too many holes

I’ve read a lot from this author and enjoyed them but this book was not one. It dragged out too much and was so “wordy”, using the same types of analogy and similes throughout and too often.
And so many holes!
Spoiler alert: how did Nick get out of the tarp he was tied into, out of the grave with his “head bashed in”?
How did Scott find Fiona after a year? How did he shoot Nick and no one heard or questioned them? There was no follow up to all the events! They went back home… no more questions from the DI, especially now that Lisa is “missing”? Did they find her body? Did they find Nick? There are just way too many holes in this book.

What in the world did I just read?

Absolutely brilliantly written! Overwhelming script that leaves me gasping for air! Truly…you will think you have lost the plot…but don’t give up. You’ll love the ending as it’s a perfect conclusion to a story so full of life choices you’ll wonder if you’ve arrived or you’re just leaving. Wow!

I’ve enjoyed all previous books by this author but this one really fell flat with me, I found it repetitive and boring. It wasn’t the page turner I expected and the story just got more and more repetitive about a hill a branch and a boiler! I did finish but skipped lots of pages as I skimmed through the book .

Exciting book!

AJ Carter is Avery u inquest author. His writing is very poetic, and this book had very dialogue. I could not wait to read it each night. I read it in three nights. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Way too descriptive and boring. Was able to skip about 3 pages, read one and still keep up with the story line. Ending was horrible. Not one of Carter's best.
