In this classic work, Dr. Jack Cottrell guides you through every New Testament text that deals with baptism. It is a thorough, yet highly readable, study that provides a firm understanding of the New Testament teaching concerning this important doctrinal issue. This book now includes study questions for each chapter making this a great resource for group meetings.
Cottrell definitely makes some unjustified leaps in his arguments for the meaning of baptism in different passages throughout this book. The only reason for rating the book as highly as I am is because a number of his conclusions are accurate and not all of his arguments are bad. I also think the book brings a good balance to a world where most people don't hold baptism as highly as they ought. 2.5/5 stars
amazing exegesis of scripture. very heavy on the original greek language spoken, and on reason. this is an awesome book for anyone who wants to see all of the scriptures that talk about baptism analyzed. there were definitely some parts that were hard to follow tho, though the vast majority was very clear and understandable. also had an amazing conclusion.
This is a thoughtful, Scriptural analysis of baptism. For those desiring a good conscience about baptism, read this with an open heart for the Spirit of God to impress you with baptism’s significance. “By grace you have been saved" (Ephesians 2:8 NIV) will have an even greater impression upon your understanding, after reading this exposition. I could only smile, when I read Martin Luther’s response to those, who questioned his understanding of baptism. “Yes, it is true that our works are of no use for salvation. Baptism, however, is not our work but God’s.” I was privileged to make acquaintance with this author’s work, and “their deeds will follow them” (Revelation 14:13 NIV).
