Transitions are the moments and days that lie between what is and what is to come. Transitions occur in the lives of all Christ followers. The question is not whether they occur, but what God is doing to shape a live during a transition.
God does some of his greatest shaping work during a time of the in-between. They deepen one’s trust and dependency on God and help Christ followers better recognize God’s voice and calling in their life.
Stuck! will help you learn to better recognize a time of transition, how they occur, and how to get the most out of your time of transition.
Phenomenal. Maybe this book hit me just because I have so much transition in my life currently, but golly, it was insightful. It’s short, straightforward, yet solid in its content. It’s a book I need to read once a decade in my life.
A colleague recommended this book to me and it was helpful on some points. It held a few gems of wisdom, but wasn't worth a whole book. Probably the most valuable principle is the idea that transitions involving listlessness, questionings, conflicts, and pain as being normal and periodic in the life and development of a minister.
That said, Walling bases his book on an article by J. R. Clinton ("Looking at Critical Transition Times in Leader's Lives") which is partially reproduced in ten pages as an appendix. Read the article, skip the book.
It was a life-saving book in terms of understanding transition and coping with it in a healthy and hopeful way. I had tears. I felt as someone finally was able to put into words what I was going through and gave me the insight and help I needed. I like the clarity, the biblical understanding, the hope and the questions you have to go at the end of each chapter helped me to reflect and personalize what I was reading. I highly recommend it, especially if you are going through transition.
A practical guide to walking through transition. Not the most profound, but probably one of the easiest to grab ahold of. Any Christ-follower could pick up this book and be able to begin to sort through where they are in the transition process, see how God is likely moving, and press in as a result.
I can’t say this answers every question; but this, along with community, the Word, and hearing messages definitely can help you to decipher what your calling is and how you should transition.
