I went into this story not really knowing much. I didn't really read the blurb or anything. The story is written in third person. It was pretty fast paced and gave you a good story. The biggest thing I took away from this story is that communication is big in relationships. I could relate to some of the things that happened in both Ava and Cole's life. There was a section when Ava tells Cole something that was hard from over the months that brought me to shed a couple of tears as if I heard someone say those words to me. By the time I got to the end I was so happy it ended with an HEA but I do wonder about Cole's friends.

Ava Vaughan steps back into a world of glitz, glam and secrecy, a world where she knows she never belonged. But it's necessary if she wants to get her estranged husband to agree to a divorce. After living apart for the last six months the time has come to cut all ties and really start her life over. But she does not expect Cole to say No! Nor does she expect him to kiss her senseless and pretty much knock her off kilter all over again, just like old times.

Cole is no where near ready to let his beloved wife walk away, he devises a plan to keep her around for just a little while, in the office, in the kitchen , in his bed and of course in his life, once he is ready to really let go, she can have her divorce but not before he's darn well and ready!

Ava agrees to live with Cole again and work at his firm as the planner of a major event, once the event it done and dusted she can get back to her life and of course she will have the divorce. But as time passes old feelings rise to the surface, feelings of heartache and loss, of unbearable pain and despair, and feelings of the overwhelming never ending desire they both feel. But as much as Ava has and still loves Cole he never has nor will he ever love her, so why stick around?

Two hours was all it took to read this fabulous little read, yes two hours is all it took for me to fall hopelessly in love with these two lost souls that were so badly in need of guidance. And guide them the author did ,with spectacular fashion!

The character of Cole is of course every romance reader's worse nightmare, a real ass, arrogant, demanding and always issuing orders to get his way, but let's be honest gals that's what us lovers of romance wants. We want a hero that will be pushed into a corner till they spill it all ! And spill he did, not the secrets about Freemasonry of course but definitely everything I wanted him to! Btw Nicole the entire secrecy of Freemasonry , SUPER SEXY!

The character of Ava was lost, and I mean really lost as in drowning in a sea of denial, sorrow and all I wanted to do was hug her, and tell her to get her ducks in a row, but as the read went on I was able to really understand why she's so lost and not willing to get anything in a row and rather head for the easier route of divorce.

This being the prequel to the Freemasons series it was short but so very powerful. Fast paced, loaded with emotion and left quite the impact on me. A stunning read about two people who were never meant to be apart, slipping back into their comfort zone with the barriers from the past only half way in place and then the power of love knocking down each and every single one of those barriers. Passionate, heartfelt, remarkable and compelling are just some of the words that come to mind, the book is a whole lot more and simply one that is not to be missed.

I am literally already going out of my mind crazy waiting for book two of this series and I only read this one a few hours ago! Nicole Flockton get your butt into gear and bring on the next one!

I'm a great fan of this up and coming author. She writes in a style I enjoy with modern people with values I can relate to.

This is a shortish reunion romance. Ava and Cole have been separated for six months. She left Cole shortly after the marriage as a result of an estrangement that began when she miscarried their baby. Ava knew Cole only married her because of the pregnancy and his increasingly distant behaviour seemed to prove it.

The whole thing was exacerbated by his secrecy around his membership in a Freemasons Lodge with his best friends. We get to see their stories in the series. This novella is really a taster for the series.

I really enjoyed the story which included the beginnings of a series arc mystery which will follow through the rest of the romances of the group of best friends.

The ploy Cole used to keep Ava with him is not unusual but worked well withing the constraints of the novella length. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

This is a short sharp and thoroughly enjoyable introduction to the upcoming series The Freemasons and if this is just the start then I say bring on the rest because I am certainly ready to read some more.
Ava and Cole are separated after a short time together they have spent the last six months apart but the trauma that they both experienced has affected them in very different ways.
Ava firmly believes that she does not belong on Cole’s world, a one with money and privilege, festooned with secrets and lies but one which, if she wants to finally cut her ties, she has no choice but to step back into.
If like me you are a little puzzled to begin with about where all this is going then I would say “patience” because at first I wasn’t sure I was on the same page as everyone else with what was going on or at least with the reasons for the goings on! But hang on in there it all makes sense in the end.
Ava wants to get the divorce over and done with, to finally move on with her life and to allow Cole to do the same, there is one problem with that – Cole doesn’t want to move on – he wants his wife back and he is not taking no for an answer, for the time being anyway – whether he will eventually bore of the idea and call it quits on his terms who knows but one thing is for certain- he certainly isn’t giving in on Ava’a say so.
He hatches a plan and for her naivety or maybe desperation Ava goes along with it, because despite the terms and conditions the outcome is what matters and she will get her divorce, so she will accept the terms and take whatever comes in her stride.
But what they hadn’t bargained on was the fact that under the same roof, the feelings that they once had come back to play havoc with their plans.
But were the feelings completely one sided?
Did Cole care, had he ever cared or was this all a case of him wanting his own way?
I loved the fact that the author took them both by the hand and guided not only them but me through the minefield of emotions that were hurtling throughout the book.
My heart broke for the tragedy they suffered and my anger bubbled at the apparent selfishness that they both exhibited, yes I mean both of them because while Cole was an arrogant man, who thought nothing of demanding his own way, Ava was guilty of much the same, she had undertaken his proposal in her fight to get what she wanted – a divorce.
But take all that out of the equation and you have what I suppose given the bottom line was a sweet story, one that had me reading with my fingers crossed because I wanted them to work it all out but on the other hand I didn’t actually know if they could.
I think I liked the element of angst that the two of them going on and was relieved that the ending did have me biting my fingernails until the release of the next book.

Alpha males, second chances, and an organization with secrets

Nicole Flockton has written another good romance, a second chances one this time, with characters that are so real, they jump off the page for you. She handles a hard subject well—the aftermath of a couple who has lost a baby and is struggling to overcome the grief and changes to their marriage and themselves.

The hero and heroine have separated. The story begins with our heroine, Ava, making the decision to demand a divorce from her estranged husband, Cole. She’s started her own business—event planner—and just wants to get on with her life. While she was wildly in love with the hero, she never felt like she belonged in his world.

Cole, a seriously alpha, alpha male hasn’t had time to deal with the state of his marriage due to the death of his father and inheriting the helm of his father’s business—a major corporation. And on top of that, he is very busy with his Freemason lodge and their main charity efforts.

Cole’s character was written so well, I just wanted to smack him several times for being such a jackass. I have to say Ava is a much better person than I am because I would have decked Cole several times for his high-handed behavior. However I do think she gave in a little too quickly, but I am a stronger personality type than she is.

I really enjoy having both hero and heroine’s POV; otherwise I would have hated Cole.

I’m the first to admit I know nothing about the Freemasons other than the “no women allowed” thing, but I do not think I would deal well with the insistence of secrecy, even with their wives. But Ava only chafed a little, and I give her kudos for it.

There are several instances where Nicole Flockton’s Aussie roots show—since the story takes place in Australia, it is to be expected. Biscuits vs. cookies *snicker*

The story ended a little abruptly for me, and I felt some things were glossed over a bit too much, but this didn’t overshadow my overall enjoyment of the story.

This is a quick read; I finished in two sittings.

Nicole Flockton remains on my “must read” authors list.

Nicole Flockton does a great job of setting the stage for her new series with this first short novel (150 pages). At the heart of the story is mystery involving The Freemason's and their charity to save homeless teenagers plays out in the rest of the series. There's a very personal reason this charity is so important to the main characters and I can't wait to see how it all ends.

Cole Jacobs and Ava Vaughan kick off this series with their story. Cole and Ava had a rocky start to their marriage and are now estranged. A lack of communication and insecurities due to their mismatched social standing bring them to the brink of divorce. Cole and Ava have a tough time learning that communication is the key to any good relationship and at times I wanted to reach through my computer and just shake them.

I loved Cole's determination not to let Ava go and fight to overcome obstacles in his path which included Ava's stubbornness. At times their story was sweet and funny, while at other times you just wanted to hug them and tell hem it'll all work out.

I loved that even though this was a novella there's no major cliffhanger to leaving you screaming at the end. I'm definitely looking forward to the next one in the series.

I loved this book! In The Victor we meet to different characters. Ava Vaughan is dating the man of her dreams. Life is wonderful with Cole Jacobs. They are an unlikely match because he comes from money and she doesn't, but they both love each other.
Ava gets pregnant and Cole proposes marriage. They marry and the night before their honeymoon is to begin Ava suffers a miscarriage.
Ava is deviated and Cole is too, but will their "love" see them through or pull the permanently apart?
Oh enjoyed reading this novella. Cole is an amazing man, but has a few flaws. Communication being one of them. Ava also has communication issues in a big way. I love the mystery that Freemasonry brings into this book. What secrets does Freemasonry hold and how do they apply to this book and to Cole 's life? Trust me, this is not your typical woman gets pregnant, gets married, and lives happily ever after kind of novel. It has a happy ending, but not without a lot of talk, tears, and trust. So trust me and get your copy of The Victor by Nicole Flockton!

Nicole did an AMAZING job introducing her fans to the world of Freemasons in the prequel to new brand new series. Ava and Cole are hurting, but they handled their issues without the help of one another, and this places doubt, misconceptions and mistrust within their already rocky marriage. All Ava wants is a clean break and a divorce, or is it? She thinks this is what is best AND what Cole wants. But Cole makes it clear, he wants his wife.

Much like that of Friends/Enemies to Lovers, this second chance romance tugs at your heart strings because of the deep history these two share. Aside from the rekindling of an obviously intense romance is the introduction to several men from the Lodge that you are eager to learn their stories.

I truly think Nicole knocked it out of the park with this series, and I am eager to dive into more!

Cole and Ava know that their marriage is rocky. All Cole wants is for Ava to do one more job. Something she loves, and in the process, something amazing happens.

This story is amazing. Love is NOT perfect, but you can make the best of it, so long as the love is still there!

I absolutely love it, and cannot WAIT to read more of The Freemasons series!

This is the first book in what looks to be a cracking series. I’ve read several books by this author over the last couple of years but somehow missed this series. So glad I found it as I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
This is a really great second chance romance set in Australia. The series is set around 4 male friends who all have high positions in the Freemasons. In this book we get the story of Cole and his estranged wife Ava. The couple split after losing their baby soon after their marriage. Ava is asking for a divorce but Cole is determined to win her back and make a go of their marriage.
I really loved Cole and Ava’s story. It’s very angsty, which I love, as Ava is determined not to fall for Cole’s charms again. But that proves to be a much bigger struggle that she thought.
The story flows really well and keeps you gripped and entertained from start to finish. I enjoyed this so much and I already have book 2 on my kindle ready to lose myself in.

I received this book free from the author for an honest review. I really like this cover, the male is hot with a great chest. This book is all about misunderstandings and lack of communication. Cole and Ava meet fall for each other and marry quickly. When a tragedy happens they both stop talking to each other and assumes what you other wants and needs. The books starts with Ava wanting a divorce and Cole planning a way to get her back where she belongs. I look forward to reading more in this series. Cole and Ava are both likeable characters and have a great connection. This is a quick and satisfying read. There is a subplot in this book that I hope carries over into the next book. I'm excited to keep reading this series.

This is the first book in the Freemasons series. It was a really good read. I loved how passionate Cole is about Ava and how Ava has grown in confidence and independence however this increase in confidence has also made her blind to what is in front of her.

This story was heartbreaking to read in parts. To see how a couple so in love could fall apart when tragic events hit and communication is lost. Instead of turning to each other in their time of need they pushed each other away until the gap between them seems so huge they will never be able to close it. Or so they thought.

When Ava turns up at a charity event to speak to her estranged husband Cole she had 1 goal in mind. She wants a divorce. After all Cole doesn't want to be with her. He only married her out if a feeling if obligation so its going to be easy to get a divorce right?

Cole on the other hand has other ideas. Cole is devoted to Ava and has no plans on letting her go. He assumes the words he isnt saying is enough for her to realise how much he loves her. When Ava asks him for a divorce he is shocked and dead set against it. He needs to make her see and remember how good they were together so he comes up with a plan.

If Ava will work for him to plan this charity event for the Lodge he will grant her the divorce she so desperately wants.
And so his plan of action to win her back starts. Can this couple finally learn to open up and communicate? Can Ava see how much Cole loves her? And will Ava be able to resist her attraction and feelings for Cole when they are living and working together?

It is a very powerful story and one quite a few couple may go through and relationships end because of the same reasons that Cole and Ava has.

Ava and Cole have been living separate lives for the last six months. She has returned to the city to ask him for one last thing...a divorce. She believes it is time to put their marriage behind them. The last thing she expects is for him to say "no". Why would he not agree to this? Doesn't he see that she doesn't fit in his world and the reason they married in the first place is longer an issue?

Cole is shocked to see his wife at an event after she walked away six months ago...and even more shocked with what she is asking him for. He was serious when he said his vows...and now needs to find a way to make Ava see that. Having her plan the Freemasons event is a way to get her around him on a daily basis...but will she want to stay when it's over? And...when these two really start talking...will they be able to overcome the obstacles that prevented their marriage from working out the first time around?

I enjoyed both Ava and Cole's characters. After what they have been through, I can see how pulling away from each other was a way to heal...but a lot was left unsaid and unaddressed in those six months. When six months of held-in frustrations and grief come to the surface, they are forced to deal with those feelings before they can even think about moving forward. They were going through marital issues that a lot of couples face and it made it feel that more real. I read the whole story in one sitting and enjoyed it.

The Victor is the first book in The Freemasons series by Nicole Flockton. It is a moving second chance contemporary romance with a forced proximity element, past history, heartache, buried feelings, a marriage on the rocks, angst, push-pull, angst, miscommunication, separation, secrets, and how true love really can overcome anything.
This is a wonderful start to what looks to be a superb series. I can’t wait to jump into the second book asap, and the best news is the whole series is available to read NOW- happy dance. No waiting…. WOOT!!!
It appears that each book in the series will focus on a different couple, but with a recurring cast. Meaning four books, from what I can tell…. And did I mention our four leading men are Freemasons- which adds an extra layer of intrigue and mystique to the whole shebang.
Cole and Ava have been separated for the past 6 month. She wants a divorce, but he intends to win her back. Will he succeed, or is this really the end? Will Cole be willing to do what it takes to prove his love and commitment to Ava? And most importantly, will Ava even consider giving him a chance to try to rekindle their love- or is it all a case of ‘too little-too late? The story is definitely worth the read to find out. But prepare for your emotions to be released.
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Nicole Flockton!

The Victor: A Second Chance Romance (The Freemasons #1) by Nicole Flockton

This isn't the first book I've read by the author. The author knows how to keep me coming back. So far I've read several books by the author and I really can't choose my favorite. So far The Freemasons Series is good. The Victor is the first book in The Freemasons Series.

Cole is trying to move on with his life. He buried his father without his wife by his side. In fact, they haven't been in the same house in six months. So when she wants a divorce he says on one condition. The quote I chose for Cole is: “I mean, the time to come and see me would’ve been when I needed to have my wife by my side. The day I buried my father.”

Ava is going to ask Cole for a divorce, but she isn't expecting him to say no. She knows it's time to move on, but what if she doesn't really want to let go. It seems that might be the case with them. The quote I chose for Ava is: “What do you mean? I want a divorce, Cole. Don’t you think it would be best for the both of us if we ended our marriage?”

Highly recommended for Contemporary Romance lovers.

I loved The Victor! It gave me all kinds of feels. I only wish it was longer. I want more of Cole and Ava in my life. I also can’t wait for the continuation of the series.
Ava is the character most women can relate to. Likable, insecure, strong willed. When she ends up with the man of her dreams she still believes it’s too good to be true. So she asks for a divorce instead. One problem, Cole tells her no!
Thinking she’s doing what’s best to release a trapped man, she has no idea how deep she slices him with her request. Cole unequivocally loves Ava but he’s never been vocal about it. Wanting his actions to speak for him.
Now this is their problem.
They don’t communicate.
They close up everything inside.
Will they ever move forward?
The author gives you a fast paced romance with a lot of substance and obstacles. Keeps you rooting for Ava and Cole to make it work.
So time to jump on the roller coaster ride and into The Victor. A second chance romance, that’s slightly different from ones I’ve read before. I think you will feel the same!

This was an enjoyable and engaging second chance at love story, which had me happily turning the pages. All Ava Vaughan wants from her husband is a divorce, and as they have been separated from each other for the last six months, she’s surprised when he says no. Cole Jacobs has spent the last six months hoping that his wife, Ava will return to him. Cole had no intention of loosing his wife and intends to stay married to her, so when she demands a divorce, he proposes a deal instead. Cole asks Ava to use her skills as an event planner to help him organise an important fundraiser, and then he will agree to a divorce. However, Cole intends to work closely with Ava on the fundraiser and as the couple work together their buried feelings resurface. Both Cole and Ava have to face the reasons why their marriage fell apart and decide if it can be rescued. This was a heartwarming story with wonderful characters, in a lovely setting. Ava and Cole were particularly easy to feel engaged with and I was hoping they would get their HEA.

The Victor
By Nicole Flockton
5*

This is the first book in the Freemasons series. I absolutely love the premise of the book and the series. This book features a couple that has suffered a tragedy and their relationship has taken the toll. They agree to work together one last time as a chance to start to see things through the others eyes. As they are working together we are introduced to Cole and his friends. They work for the freemasons. However the goings on about the Lodge are merely mentioned in this book. I hope that in future books we will learn more about Cole and his friends. Ava is his wife who is ready to thrown in the towel on their marriage. I have to say I truly loved seeing them as a couple who were working through things that many marriages go through. They seemed so relatable, especially that communication (or a lack there of) has been the root of their problems. I had my self rooting for a HEA throughout this entire book. If this book is any indication of the rest of the series I know that these books are going to each be amazing!

I have always loved books by this gifted author. This one really stuck with me! It was deep at times, and the book and the issues of the couple were full of realism and being realistic! You felt a lot while reading.

I felt and really understood a lot between Ava and Cole. Things were rocky, and they let things get that way, but there was no denying the feelings they had that had them be together in the first place. I really felt for them both, was rooting for them all the way through, I wanted to know if they would try again or really call it quits. The book had its empowering sense and gripping the reader, with the journey the author took the reader on. Motivating and heartfelt all the way through! Could not put it down Loved it

Great read that held me to its end. Of course I enjoyed the authors writing as usual! For sure a must read and very much highly recommend this author and this book! Neither is something to be passed up!

The Victor is an emotional and heartfelt contemporary romance and a short read but not lacking for its shortness. This stunning story will stay with you long after you read it, it did for me. I loved the characters but not right from the start.

All Ava wanted was love and thought she found it but it was too good to be true. Now she just wants to close the chapter and be able to move on with her life BUT Cole has other ideas. Is she willing to go along with him to get what she wants or will she walk away?

Cole will stop at nothing to get what he wants so he has come up with a pan. Now it just has to work BUT part of the problem is the secrets behind the Freemasons. My father-in-law was a Freemason and I know how secrets can lead to distrust

This enchanting tale is full of passion and angst, hope and weariness, pain and suffering, loss and helplessness.

I look forward to book 2.

This book had me all in right from the beginning....and this author is one of my favorites. A second chance romance with loss, grief, love and definite hot tender moments.

Cole wants his wife back, Ava feels differently and wants a divorce. When Ava approaches Cole about a divorce so she can "move on"....Cole denies her request. Instead, Cole fights for what he wants and that he wants Ava back....and in order to try he proposes that Ava is to help and be project lead as his even planner for a big charity event. Working closely together and arranging to live together again, will Ava's feeling about a divorce still hold true....as so much cooped up feelings of grief, guilt, loss and sadness have evaded them both?

This story was wonderful and flowed to easily as I turned each page. Cole and Ava stole my heart in this story...two beautifully broken people trying to find each other again and open up........and I love them together.

The only thing Ava wants from her husband is a divorce. She really wasn’t expecting him to say no to the idea, but he did and now she’s confused.

Cole had waited six months for Ava to come back home and he isn’t ready to let her or their marriage go. In an attempt to keep her close, he hires her to plan a fundraiser and at the end says he will agree to a divorce.

Now working so closely, feelings are rising and they’re forced to face what drove Ava away and kept her there. Is it too late to save their marriage or are they doomed to divorce? Who will be the victor?

This was a fun, sweet and light read. I absolutely adored reading about Ava and Cole and feel connected to the other characters as well. I’m looking forward to reading more in this series and possibly looking into other works from this author.

If you like romance, strong independent characters, and the idea of falling apart in order to fall back together, this is a book for you!

I hadn’t read anything by this author yet, but this first book in The Freemasons Series is a fantastic start! It hit me hard and pulled at my emotions throughout the story.

Ava decides that she wants a divorce because it’s time to move on. She hasn’t lived in the same house as Cole for six months and there’s no use in prolonging the inevitable. But when she presents her want for a divorce to him, he tells her no. Taken aback, she hears Cole out and agrees to his terms to work together for one last event. Spending so much time together brings many emotions to the surface for both of them. Will it bring them closer together or drive a wedge even further between them?

I have to say that the flow of this story is wonderful. I was drawn in from the beginning and constantly wondered will they or won’t they? Since reading this, I have been adding books by Nicole Flockton to my TBR list. I can’t wait to see what happens in the rest of the series!

The Victor (The Freemasons Book 1) by Nicole Flockton

Wow The Victor is the first book in The Freemasons Series and is a second chance Contemporary Romance that once you start reading there’s no stopping until you finish. You may want to have tissues near by as this one will have your emotions all over the place. Some parts my heart hurt for both of them. This series is off to a great start and I look forward to reading the others soon. This is a short story that packs a punch right to your heart. These two both have secrets and he’s not even close to letting her go without a fight. Can these two survive the secrets and move on? Is it to late and she’s determined to move on without him? I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I can’t wait to read more from this Author

The Victor by Nicole Flockton is book one in the Freemasons series. Getting a divorce is the only thing on Ava’s mind. Cole doesn’t love her, he’s never said it. This was a shotgun wedding and she’s all wrong for him. Cole is blindsided by the sight of his wife and her demand for a divorce. He doesn’t want it, he loves her. They had a rough patch and neither handled it together with the other. They both dealt in silence which put a huge gap between them. But now, Cole has the opportunity to have her help him with a gala for the Freemasons he’s a part of. It’s an easy way for him to slip her back into his life. But will it work? I liked their chemistry. They really seemed to want to be together but needed to get over their hurdle. I’n interested in this mysterious mission the Lodge is a part of and hope to find out more in the next story.

Ava Jacobs has spent time living separately from her husband, Cole. She has decided that it is time for them to end the marriage that she feels was forced on them due to her pregnancy that unfortunately ended in miscarriage. Cole finds himself now managing his father’s company in the plastics field after his father passed. Cole is also very involved with the Lode Drysor, a group of Freemasons. When Ava approaches Cole to demand a divorce he instead talks her into putting her skills as an event planner (her career) to use in order to plan the Parklite Foundation Ball that his lodge is hosting. At Cole’s instance, Ava agrees to not only plan the event, but also spend the month at their former home. Will Cole and Ava both work past their pain and grief, or will Cole agree as he promised to grant Ava the divorce once the Ball is over? You have to read Victor to find out.

I enjoyed reading this second chance romance story. This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites yet. I enjoy how the author used details and her writing skills to bring life to the story. This story is no different. This is a well written story that is full of romance and hard to put down. The characters are strong and keep the story engaging. They have great chemistry and growth throughout the story. It is an emotional story in parts which just added to the story. This is a fast paced story that is hard to put down. A story about two people who may get a second chance at their marriage. You don’t want to miss what happens with them. It is a great easy story to read. I highly recommend this book.
