After a night and most of the day on the run in the massive ancient space station Outriding, Theodore Castelline is at wit's end. Playing the pawn in his new employers' game against their own elite police force, locked off from all contact with his command and former countrymen, and unable to speak or even read the alien languages that surround him, Theodore's starting to have some grave thoughts about the path his life has taken.
A second Theodore, meanwhile, travels the station in digital form, spying on the crew--even Theodore himself--trying to solve the murder mystery whose clues seem to erase even his memories of them as they're uncovered. How can a being made of information possibly solve a crime that can't be thought about? And what will happen to him when the game is done?
OUTRIDING is a weekly serial science-fiction project. Look for Part Five, available next week.
