Annette Severson is a registered nurse, healthcare leader, educator, and author of the Nicole Healy medical suspense series. Drawing on decades of experience in nursing and healthcare leadership, she writes stories that explore what happens when flawed systems, competing loyalties, and human decisions collide.
Her debut novel, Forced Errors, follows nurse leader Nicole Healy as a seemingly isolated medication error reveals a far more troubling pattern. Nicole’s journey continues in Adaptive Collateral, where technology designed to improve healthcare begins quietly reshaping the decisions made within it.
Annette is also the author of the Forced Errors Faculty Guide, a companion resource that helps nursing educators use scenes from the novel to engage learners in discussions about leadership, clinical judgment, patient safety, and systems thinking.
Through Beyond the Story on her website, she connects events from her fiction with the real-world healthcare issues behind them—inviting nurses, educators, leaders, and readers to consider not only what happened, but why.
Annette holds a doctoral degree in education and is especially interested in the intersection of storytelling, leadership, and patient safety. She lives along the water in Wisconsin’s Northwoods, where she writes, quilts, reads widely, and shares the shoreline with two dogs who have very different opinions about swimming.
