Ashridge is a small town hidden beyond an easily missed exit off Highway 412. Most travelers pass by without ever noticing the little gem masked behind the thick woods. It has everything the residents need: a sparkly lake for hot summer afternoons, a community pool filled with laughing kids, a park where families gather, and a collection of small shops packed tightly together in the heart of town. Groceries, haircuts, donuts, and even a cold beer are all found within walking distance. Every Sunday, churchgoers join Father Merrin in Mass. Ashridge checks every box for a 1950s picture-perfect town. For Aaron Stensin and his friends, life revolves around a hidden tree fort deep in the woods. There they spend their days reading comics, cracking jokes, and staying out of sight of Trent Barry and his gang of neighborhood bullies. As far as Aaron is concerned, life in Ashridge may not be exciting, but it's safe. In the dead of night, the lady arrives. She is the owner of a new shop, though she’s the only one who knows what’s for sale. Telephones. Soon, every house, even those without porch lights yet, will have a telephone inside, but there’s a catch. The lady controls them all, and she intends to use them to destroy Ashridge for good…
Great read! I’m glad I stumbled upon the author’s booth at a craft fair.
Just a funny story, and hopefully it was only a coincidence… The other day, I was probably about 80% through the book, which was sitting in my car...As I was walking back to my car, I heard a phone ringing from a shopping cart someone had left next to it. Didn't answer it! but brought it to the manger of the store I was leaving.
Gotta say, it freaked me out a little bit, lol. IYKYK
