Jacob "The Lion" Wright has been fighting since he was a boy. At school he fought his bullies and since then he's been fighting to prove himself to the man who put him there. As a successful self made, wealthy MMA fighter, he has nothing to prove other than what he believes must be done. Now he finds another reason to fight. Another reason to live for. The man who could have any woman only wants one. But is Cassie, the girl who is studying to become a lawyer, the right woman for a tattooed cage fighter? When she becomes an octagon girl out of necessity to make ends meet and is thrown into the same ring as Jake, she finds herself holding much more than a ring card. She is holding her future in her hands and her heart.
This is a Standalone Story with No cliffhanger ending. WARNING: This book contains graphic language, sex and violence. It is intended for mature readers only.
MMA Alpha Fighter Brotherhood Series:
These are the stories of the young men who are as brothers to one another. Fighting for the glory of their win in the ring but also with the baggage they have carried from childhood of the expectations of their families and friends. Each is looking for love, often in the wrong places. Their stories and those of the women who steal their hearts are interconnected but each can be read as a standalone story without the others.
The first in the series is JAKE. BROCK is book 2 and JAGGER is the 3rd story with more books planned and plotted.

This is the first of a serial novel about the character Jake and his various....romances? Well sexual encounters actually, until he becomes interested in a particular young woman. Okay, he sleeps around to make himself feel better about his deplorable relationship with his father. I'm going to ruin the ending of this novel, he thinks that the newest girl that he has become involved with is different, not because he took the time to get to know her...nope, because he can remember her name. I think this says everything about why this book is not worth reading, if the main reason he thinks he's fallen in love (that is implied not stated) is that he can remember her name. I'm in the mood to rant about the state of morals in America so I'm going to leave my review here. The description of the novel made the character seem like he had quite a bit of depth, I guess that the 'graphic' descriptor should have warned me that this is more about sensual things than plot. Not great, if you are in the mood for something like this then great, if not skip it.
I had a hellofatime connecting, becoming invested, and even liking the characters here.
Cass immediately goes stupid anytime Jacob kisses her. It's an insta-love/lust romantic storyline. I'm okay with that, but you (author) must give me something endearing and/or interesting about these characters to make me remotely care about two people meeting and instantly going at each other like they're in heat.
I didn't get that...
Instead, I got Jacob being an insensitive prick calling his friends fairies because they liked tortes. I got him not being able to go an entire paragraph without thinking about or mentioning his cock.
Instead, I get Cass selfishly worrying about having sex with Jacob and the insignificant whys and how's of it as her BFF is TRYING to emotionally confide in her that she's pregnant and that the baby daddy will not be happy. I got her not being able to go an entire paragraph without thinking about or mentioning his cock.
As a romance...
I get f'ing in a broom closet. Really?
I get two people that know nothing about each other & have zero non-sexual thoughts, actions, nor dialogue about each other before they spew 'I love you' like soured milk.
He's all 'she can f'ing have everything I have but is so sweet she'd never take advantage of me.' Newsflash mfer... Yall have spoken maybe two full sentences and f'd in a bed once and broom closet once; you (and we readers) KNOW JACKSHIT ABOUT CASSIE.
Plot
...Or not...
Aside from two "hot" mfers lusting, screwing, and realizing that there may be more than a hit it and leave it relationship to be had, there is NOTHING GOING ON for over 50% of the book.
At 51%, there's a 'shocker' with secondary characters. However, I'm very disappointed that readers were not warned in the blurb that male/male romance would be a plot line in the book!!!
There are actually several subjects here that readers should be made aware of BEFORE they purchase this book: homosexuality; religion, specifically Mormons; & abortion.
After that, the story goes back to a hump fest with giggling and goo-goo eyes until Cass's mom shows up for what I'm guessing is supposed to be the climax of the plot.
The storyline all just felt flat. There wasn't anything exciting, intriguing, swoony, suspenseful, romantic, etc.. about any of it. It was anticlimactic. All the plot points were rushed with a half-ass lopsided bow at the end.
Writing
Style and grammar wise, the writing is okay. Content wise, I was bored brainless.
The author needs to be careful within her POV narratives that character voices sound appropriate for the character's persona and gender.
"..:and the vest she had trapped those helpless mammary glands into was at least a size too small."
^ "mammary glands" is a word choice that in no way shape or form sounds like a male POV.
All the "baby" this and "baby" that was overplayed, and it was totally weird when the dad and Jake were both calling her baby and coddling her at the same time:/
Bottom Line
The author isn't a bad writer, she just needs something to write about! This storyline lacked flavor. The characters lacked personality. The romance lacked depth. The plot never developed beyond two people screwing and some gay characters coming out of the closet. It was a snooze fest:/
I can't think of a single niche or subset of readers that I could recommend to this book. 1 1/2 stars.
I love this author and have read and loved her other series, the Southside Skulls and the Westside Skulls. This one was no different, I enjoyed it just as much. I love when a strong man can show a bit of sensitivity. I'm a fan of MMA, so it was nice to get an idea of what a day in their life might be like. Jake and Cassie were more of a go with your first instinct kind of couple and things develop very quickly between them. It didn't leave a lot of room for them to over think their relationship. Very enjoyable read, love the HEA.
Conor is a great guy, trying to give back and help other young men find their way and life. He's just trying to do the right thing to help people but things soon go sideways for him. Catalina is just trying to escape her Uncle who runs the local cartel and is trying to force her into a marriage to an Irish mobster to cement a contract. She doesn't want to live the life she's watched her mother live, to be beaten down to a complete submissive, with no will of her own. She will do whatever she has to do to make that happen.
Personally, I think Conor's story is very important to the series as there are quite a few important characters that will come up again later in the other stories, so be sure to take the time to read it. Also, make sure you check behind the others for other bonus stories. Happy Reading!
This is a pretty good story. It contains I think its MMA fighting, its also an interesting in site into a card girl/model. There are other elements too like his family issues and hers issues with her mom. Then there is his best friend and her best friend who both got secrets that involve each other... Maybe a love triangle there in the making... Its another good Jessie Cooke story this time set in the world of Las Vegas Boxing/MMA. There is mention of a Harley but no visits from her other Skulls motorcycle club series. Although there are all the fighters in this series mentioned in those.
Jake, aka Jacob Wright, is a champion MMA fighter who is not only extremely talented in the octagon, but obviously between the sheets as well. When he see's her for the first time, he can't figure out what it is about her that's so different, especially enough to change his wild ways. With lots of drama, angst, heartache, and love, this is one story that you won't want to miss. I would definitely recommend this book, series, and great author.
This story was incredible, exciting, entertaining, and so moving!!!. Jessie is an incredible, amazing writer and Phenomenal storyteller. Her stories hooks you from the beginning to the end. Just WOW 😎😍.
Once again I'm drawn into this whole world that Ms Cooke creates! Love every minute of it!😍 I've known about Jake and the guys from reading the other series, but now I get a chance to jump right in!
This book was a good way of showing that even with less than prefect parenting a child can still have their parent; parents love and that you should always be your self!
Another great read by Jesse Cooke and I have read almost all of her books but I loved Jacob and Cassie I can’t wait to read more in this series fantastic
The h was an absolute ditz. She agrees to be a bikini clad card holder for a fighting match. After the match the H goes to her dressing room and as soon as she opens the door, she is on the couch getting oral. She JUST MET HIM!! Later she keeps calling herself "slut." Meanwhile the other card girls are saying sleeping with the fighters is a perk of the job. The H keeps calling his friends "fairy" bc they are careful with how they dress and the food they eat. That is disgusting and offensive. I question this H's masculinity and integrity.
2.5 stars. This book had some potential, but really needs a good edit. It was hard to get past the multitude of errors in tense, punctuation and grammar to concentrate on the actual story.
There are a number of other issues with superfluous information and Jake's pen*s being referred to as "it" and "his thing"! It was frustrating to read this book, because it could be ok...but it's not as it stands now.
THIS IS NOT A STANDALONE!! So I read Conan first, though in that book it says Jake (this book) is first in the series. As far as I can tell Conan is a standalone that Jake has an appearance in. I did really like Jake and Cassie's story. I did not like how it just ended. I wouldn't call it a cliffhanger because their story I guess had a HEA. I guess maybe all of the residing conflicts are carried over into Brock, but it feels like they were meant to be one book and instead were separated.
Got the whole series when it was free on Amazon and absolutely loved it, I couldn't put it down! I fell in love with Jake and Cassie they are such a great couple and just seem so perfect for each other! I can't wait to read about the other fighters and hear some more about Jake and Cassie in their stories!
Wow! What a tangled web she weaves! J.S. Cooke does an incredible job with writing this story that has so many things going on, yet fits together so well. Cassie and Jake have a great love story that I just couldn't put down. I totally loved it.
Not sure why this is a serial novel, it makes just one really good book. A great read in an evening.
This was a great fighter love story. I would have given it 4.5 stars if it hadn't ended so abruptly. It's not what I would call a cliffhanger but almost felt like it.
