A collection of short stories and poems about loss, love and depression. I was asked to write an honest review so I will honour that. The words were extremely descriptive and you can see them coming to life. However, I did find some of the stories a bit slow to be honest and cannot say I enjoyed reading it that much. I just think it wasn't my type of thing but others have and may enjoy it much more. On a plus side some of the stories did stand out to me and were quite powerful. These include The Valley, Lady bug, All night long and Help me. Give it a try and see what you think :) xx
What a beautiful and profoundly raw glimpse into the heart and soul of one man. A journey of life and love, loss and regret, and the hope of a future is revealed in a series of short stories and poems which will grip you from the first page. So haunting. So descriptive. So deep and passionate. I read it in only a few hours but I know I will return to it again. There's so much rich detail, you can't process it all the first time you read. Read and enjoy this treasure. Highly recommended!
“Through thunder and light” immediately gives off vibes of some sort of transition that may occur. This book was a compilation of thoughts and experiences from the male perspective. I feel it makes a good fit if you have to travel this summer and you need a soulful insight into the male mind on love. This book was written from the author’s point of view and that was a very good perspective. Although he shares these harrowing and emotional blurbs, I feel maybe a little backstory would have helped with the reading ease. It is an intimate topic and i can understand that some events in life are not so readily shared, but i found myself asking who these thoughts were about or what happened. Maybe the author intended it that way and only sought to share the emotions behind the story. If so, he conducted the words in such a way that the vivid imagery provided was deep and soulful. Within the first passage, “Through thunder and light”, he describes thunder “like innumerable veins pumping the life force that sustains the world”! I can feel the power in that alone, and there were many more descriptions as such.
I found there was a very common topic ranging from admiration, loss, love, wonder, fear, apprehension, rejecting and all of the other emotions that come forth during the process of falling in love. The style is informal based on the fact that they are like wandering and passing thoughts with no backstory. But the meat of emotion flares up and is extremely hefty. If the intended audience is someone peeking behind the curtain into the inner workings of a lovestruck mind, then this meets the criteria.
The concept of love is well defined within the range of loss to wonder. The language is very clear in terms of emotional descriptions. His words bring you right to where he is, in that moment in time as each thought permeates the surface. Even without any substantial girth of story, the ideas he proposes are well developed. No scientist is needed to prove that the sentiments felt are real.
The final piece ended abruptly for me. I was left wondering what happened, who was he talking about and did he find love?
What you see is what you get with this book. The format of seemingly unimportant ramblings brings together a story of how one's thought are under the influence of love. I have never read a book like this but I would pass it on as an almost refreshing breath of air to know that we all have the same emotions.
It is a nice book and is good for those looking for a quick read with depth.
I received this book complimentary. All opinions are my own. This book contains so many feelings and emotions. Traveling through heartaches, depression, loss, and grief we are poetically taken on a journey of how although a little less bright, life goes on. I found this book to be very emotional. I was able to relate to a lot of the depression, sadness, and lonesome. As a mother I was able to understand how the author was conveying his heartbreak. The stories are told in the most beautiful mannerism. There is so much depth to each page. The use of language and metaphors used really get to the bare bones of how one may feel.
I reviewed this book that was a collection of short stories and poems. Maldonalda writes about the experiences from a depressed and vulnerable male perspective. The author's words are powerful and it's filled with deep vivid imagery. The topics covered range from loss, love, fear and all the other emotions we feel when one falls in love. On the negative side though, some of t life'he sentences where too long and needed rescuing from the odd period here and there. It's a very good read and I particularly liked the stories 'fifteen' and 'the meaning of
I had gotten this book free from the author in exchange for a review. First to comment is WOW! The author has a way with words that captures the emotion of the reader, it made me feel what they were feeling. It make me look at their raw emotions and the feelings and emotions that comes from heartbreak, love, being a father etc; The author did an amazing job, these poems were well detailed and it made me feel like I was apart of their pain, insecurities, hurt, betrayal and love.
My oh my this was a rollercoaster of emotions, my heart yearned for the man's loss of his child and his love. As I read I saw the devastating effects life can have on one's soul. I hoped for a miracle before reaching the end of these short stories, his love for his wife never faulters he puts her needs before his own, so sad so lovely so lonely so unforgettable awesome read loved it,
This is a collection of short stories, poems and verse. He tells of love, loss and emotions. These are shared from the male POV, and help the listener to understand
his heart. I found certain parts very sad.
The narration was OK, could of had a bit more emotion for the subject. This was voiced by Craig Randall Nickerson.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I enjoyed listening to the audio version of this book. It was given to me by the author in return for an honest review. It is a collection of short stories and poems that are written from a male perspective. The writing is very descriptive and full of emotion. The metaphors really bring the writing to life. I especially enjoyed the story ‘lady bug’. It really made me think. This book was a refreshing, thought provoking read.
Daniel has successfully melded together a book of short stories and poems dealing with love and, in some instances, life itself from a male perspective. Very insightful and interestingly hard to put down once you start reading. I highly recommend this book to anyone.
This book is brimming with emotion. The author does a great job of using his verses to illustrate the male perspective and does so with deep feeling. Well-done!
This was a thought provoking book. A man talking about his life. The man was saddened by the events that had taken place. Divorce, not getting to see his children. Great narrator.
I wasn’t sure what to think when I read the synopsis because this was a different type of audiobook/book than my norm. I think it was beautifully written, but referring to any of these as a “short story” didn’t fit with what I listened to. These were more like someone’s thoughts, but not like journal entries either. Because of this, there were times throughout listening when I found myself distracted and had a hard time staying focused.
I wasn't a fan of the narrator. Maybe if someone else had read this, I would have liked it more/held my attention better. But the narrator was unnatural sounding as he read. He sounded robotic and/or nasally like perhaps something was wrong with his microphone.
I received a free audiobook code in exchange for an honest review.

Some very intense feelings in this series of emotional shorts. Definitely something worth reading if you want to get deep into your emotions and bemaon love lost a little bit.
I had no idea what to expect when I bought this book. The first thing that struck me was the way the author uses metaphorical phrases to capture the reader’s attention and imagination, in this collection of short stories and poems. I liked some more than others and was particularly drawn to the one titled, Ashamed. I was also moved by the deep thread of despair that runs through each story or poem. Great use of words and phrases.
