Sidelined demon summoner Kara Gillian has her hands full when dimensional rifts allow demons to cause widespread panic and destruction on Earth. These aren't the human-tolerant summonables she's known before, but demons from the far reaches of the demon realm.
Add three demonic lords with conflicting ambitions to the mix, and Kara has the perfect recipe for global disaster.
Diana Rowland worked as a bartender, a blackjack dealer, a pit boss, a street cop, a detective, a computer forensics specialist, a crime scene investigator, and a morgue assistant, which means that she's seen a lot of weird crap. She won the marksmanship award in her Police Academy class, has a black belt in Hapkido, has handled numerous dead bodies in various states of decomposition, and can't rollerblade to save her life.
The Kara Gillian series has its ups and downs, fortunately mainly ups.
This time the book jumps a few months ahead right in the middle of action sequence, literally, and apparently Kara has been promoted to something akin to world leader of fighting the supernatural. Everyone knows her connections to the realm and what she's about, so she has the edge when ridges start opening over the world and Earth starts going to literal hell. She even talks to the president at some point, although the reader just gets the one-sided phone call gist of the conversation. Rhyz is still in the backyard contained, Mzatal and she stay on good terms but again illustrate the absence makes the heart grow fonder mantra, Jill is still pining for her child, and there's all sorts of unsettled situations in both world.
No one can accuse this story of not being creative and intricately structured; in actually it's so detailed it's almost confusing. I admit to never knowing the full picture. There's twists and turns classic Kara Gillian style, although no big shockers this time. That's okay, the story didn't need another yet.
Fans of the original Rhyz will be perhaps surprised but maybe happy that the man reaches some redemption. More light is shone on his former sins, bringing them into news angles and explanations. Turns out some of his past follies weren't so bad after all. Not only that, but Kara reaches inside herself for some forgiveness to let a certain hatchet bury itself. I liked the change and not just seeing him as the big-bad all the time.
Kadir is a fun return, creepy and a little cliffhanger. Others return and intermix, although there's a sad sort of ending for an old series regular that hasn't seen the light of page the past few books.
Ultimately it's a good story and addition to the mythos, but it's so action packed and filled it loses steam only because it overdoes it. Over-hammer something and it eventually grows blunt. I grew bored with too much action, drawn out battlefield plays, hyped up stressors and constantly appearing/twisting demonic enemies. Kara remains likable - more so than she used to be even - but even the small doses of her internal humor cannot calm down the over-hyped up story.
A lot happened in this book. So much so, I don't know what to say. I'm TEAM Ryan to my utter disappointment. I don't mind the other guy, but... Anywho, so many answers and resolutions, but there is clear set up to future books. For me, since I'm not a re-reader, I found too much time had passed. So I will feel lost until I was reminded of books long since passed. I can say I've enjoyed other books more maybe cause I listened back to back. Anyway, good story.
A: Insane powerups B: Enormous changes in the world thanks in part to the efforts or mess-ups surrounding the characters we know and love and those we love to hate. C: Hybrid UF/Epic Fantasy.
Much has been said about how this series starts off as a cool UF with a cop who can summon demons and how it becomes an epic nightmare between the demon world and Earth and now the Core with immense magical and racial reveals. It starts out usual and then becomes something really big, with Kara Gillian leading the defensive charge. Add a war between Demon Lords and the WORSE enemy from the Core and we have the stakes all the way up to utter destruction of both the Earth AND the beautiful Demon World. (Yeah, I know, it's beautiful. Get over it. ;)
Kara's abilities are on par with those of Demon Lords now and most of that is thanks to the capture and harnessing of the jerk that tried to turn her into a meat puppet. I really enjoyed how she grew as a person, too, while having her enemies in her power. She didn't succumb to a rage-filled torturesque montage no matter how much we as readers *MIGHT* have enjoyed that. :)
And as for action and worry and the twists and turns of WAR, the plot was fascinating and dire. Rifts opening up all over the world with demons pouring through is kinda bad, after all. The end is cool as shit.
My only complaint is probably a personal one. Maybe it's a lazy thing. But there's a lot of names that start with Z and enough weird demon names throughout the text as to give me a minor headache trying to sort them all out and keep the connection. I can understand the need for a big cast of characters when we're dealing with an incursion on a massive scale, but things like this can annoy to the point it pulls me right out of the tale. Fortunately, it's not bad enough to make me lose any real threads, but it is a bit of a WTF moment unless you're actually good at long lists of names along the line of the Iliad. :)
Regardless, the tale always focuses on Kara and keeping her as an anchor was an excellent call. I had a great time with the entire novel and I'm astounded at just how many changes have come over the worlds. War-torn Earth, indeed, with gigantic monstrosities lumbering across cities. Hell ya! Wooooooo! :)
Arghh, how to even review this? I am torn. It feels like the only reason I will give this a 3 is cos I like this world and these characters, but my brain realises it is only a 2. If this had been any other series it had been a 2 and I would not have read more. SIGH.
From what I remember I had the same issues with the previous books. She just talked and talked and talked, they went from place to place, but nothing happened. If I had been the editor I would have cut half the book cos 500 pages of this was yawn worthy.
It had its moments, like when 8 books of secrets got told...I mean brace yourself. We do not need everything at once.
I had forgotten who she had hooked up with...I do not feel it.
I did not remember Pellini.
The whole book felt like I had missed one in between.
I’ve got mixed feelings about this book. Honestly, I’ve been wavering on this series for a while now. Two things keep bringing me back to it. One: I remember how much I truly enjoyed some of the early books. And two: Diana Rowland has made me care about this heroine. It matters to me what happens to her.
But there are real problems. The most obvious is the huge shift the series took a couple of books back. In this particular installment, though, the problem is that it’s all gotten too big. Too many characters. Too many words and concepts tied to the world building. It’s only been a few months since I tore through this entire series in a binge read, and yet I still was lost a good 40% of the time reading this book.
I always blame myself to an extent when I can’t keep up. I wonder if I wasn’t paying enough attention in the other books or if I forgot characters or details through some fault of my own. That’s when I remind myself that the author should be helping me out. Yes, this book has a glossary, but I don’t want to have to translate as I go. Even after I bit the bullet and looked up Mraztur (which is too much like Mzatal, BTW) or Qaztahl or pretty much any of the ptarl, it didn’t help me connect to what was happening. It was just too much work.
Obviously this is not an entry point in the series for a new reader. As lost as I was, you wouldn’t stand a chance at understanding what was going on.
Here’s the Cliff’s Notes version: I’m pretty sure we skipped ahead in time a little. Kara is fighting demons with the military(?) and has her own personal security team. Szerain, Zakaar, and Ashava are missing and Xharbek is hunting for them. (Remember when the characters had names like Ryan and Jill?) Oh and Mzatal is off fighting to fix the broken demon realm. Xharbek has an evil plan. Kara must try to figure out what it is and thwart it.
Beyond the confusing stuff, my issue is a stunning lack of emotional connection. There was a time I cared about her and Ryan. I was even down with her and Mzatal. But Rowland keeps changing the dynamics of all the relationships, and not knowing how to feel, I feel nothing. Not even for Rhyzkahl, who I loved to hate.
Kara is still interesting. I like her personality and her internal dialogue. There are pockets of the book that are engaging. I just… struggled. (And it’s so very irritating to have to refer to the book to spell almost every character name in the review.)
I’ll come back to see how it all ends, but I wish I could be more excited about it all.
Prepare, people... For absolute paranoia! It's been some time since a book left me wondering just whom to trust for so long. This novel literally had me doubting everyone's motives and everything I read throughout most of the story..
So many truths are turned upside down. Not just what we thought we knew regarding the lords - but what we have believed to be true about the demonic realm as well...
I categorised last year's novel as a bridge book. This one: not so much. In fact, we FINALLY get to learn more about the lords' past and their mysterious sires. All while Earth and the demonic realm are threatened by total destruction by anomalies and renegade demons that are popping up all around the world. As promised in the blurb; arcane commander Kara Gillian really has her work cut out for her in the newest installment.
As a lover of (almost everyone of) the Lords, I was pleased that quite a few of them had significant page time in this book. Each and everyone with an agenda of his own, of course. Which left me questioning them all. (Fair is fair.)
There were quite a few surprises. I'd never thought I'd live to see the day one lord in particular be *ever so slightly* redeemed.. (Oh, he's still an ass...) But this time, it was one of the lesser known lords who - in the end - stole the limelight and my heart due to his selfless sacrifice.
However, it was the reappearance of a mysterious character we've never met, but heard so much about that was the biggest surprise of the story. Let's see how said person is going to influence future events... maybe even influence one particularly troublesome lord, hmmm? ;-)
Bottom line: It really feels like things are starting to come together. I'm literally going to be on the edge of my seat as I'm eagerly awaiting next year's release.
*Many thanks to Netgalley and Berkely for gifting me an eArc in exchange for an honest review *
LEGACY OF THE DEMON is the eighth installment in the Kara Gillian series. I have to admit, I haven’t read much of Diana Rowland’s work but I wanted to give this series a shot just because I’ve read a lot of great things about it. For one, the covers are badass but I think her writing is what carries this series.
Kara Gillian is my kind of heroine. She’s kickass and cool but at the same time, she has her own set of vulnerabilities that makes her more relatable. I think if you’re a fan of Jaye Wells, Kim Harrison or Ilona Andrews’ heroines, then you’re probably going to like Kara as well. She has a ton of personality without being over the top.
But let’s go back to the writing because I think that’s what really sets the tone of this book. These books are very fast-paced so I think if this is your first book in the series it might be a bit overwhelming. I didn’t have a problem with it. I like the action and the suspense that Rowland writes. She doesn’t let her characters stand around too long. There’s always something going on, even if it’s not a big fight or action scene.
I’ll definitely be checking out the other books in the series now and I’m glad to have another Urban Fantasy series to jump into.
I don't know how I feel about this book. This is really a tough one for me. I really enjoyed it on a lot of levels. There was really non-stop action from start to finish so it carries you through it fast enough. I didn't dislike any of the characters either, really.
But, to me, it felt like a very strong shift in the story line. All the old "secrets" are just being thrown at you without prompting. It's like 8 books worth of "secrets" are shoved down our throats. This wouldn't normally be a bad thing but it felt so very forced. They were too pat and, to be honest, they left me unfulfilled. I didn't really like the reasons/secrets.
I think it was because none really involve Kara personally and it left be wanting. Like it's all just shifting around her. I can't tell if the author is trying to take her down a knotch in terms of power (so she doesn't end up being a goddess or something -- thus making future books really hard to write) or just covering up. All the stuff that made her seemingly special during books 5 through the first half of 7 is just ignored completely or explained in other ways that don't relate to her (that have nothing really to do with her -- it's either Elinor or Rowan, etc.). No one brings it up and she's just kind of plain jane with a couple exceptions.
This book also felt a bit like people holding hands and singing kumbaya at summer camp. It had a very sickly sweet overtone on everything. Kara is just crying from the start to finish. The author seemingly tries to redeem everyone in this book and there are shit tons of "special" moments. I mean, everyone basically did what they thought was right. You could probably justify everyone's VP. The author even went so far as to have Kara point this out to another team member. It got that bad.
The thing is that there are so many, along with the forced secrets, that none feel like they have any depth. So, in short, I read this really quickly and it carried me along from start to finish. I couldn't put it down. But when I finished it, I was unsatisfied.
Well, last book I complained a bit about lack of movement in the overarching plot, loose ends that were not tied up and left me with a ton of questions .......... problem solved.
This book started off with such a bang I had to go back to make sure I had not missed a book somehow but this one starts with a stressful scene and seems to go from one battle to another keeping the reader's stress level high (did me anyway), the questions I had are getting answered a little at a time and things that were left open have started to get closure ... for better or worse.
One of the things that I love and at the same time gets me frustrated is the honest emotion you get where Kara really cares for the people around her, this same thing frustrates me because it seems like it is a cast of dozens of people that I can't keep up with in my head.
I can say that things look to be headed to a big showdown even after we solved several big things in this book there are some major problems that have to be solved in the next book. The author inserts a bit of humor from time to time that gives some relief but the stress level of this book stays high through the vast majority of the story.
We get to see people we might have forgotten about, we get to deal with people that have been enemies or at least not friends that suddenly are all fighting on the same side due to catastrophic events.
Just a day in the life of Kara Gillian and I loved it. I have to mention that my inner "revenge junkie" was pleased in places and not happy in others but such is the way this series goes, hopefully not too much introspection in the next book or we will get Kara overload and it will take away from the book IMHO. I prefer my fictional characters to make decisions and stick with them and not keep second guessing themselves. Internal monologues are best kept to a minimum for most books.
Bottom Line: A great story that dragged you along at a fast pace, this is NOT the same books that started the first 2-3 novels in this series, we have pretty much left most of that in the dust and it is starting to look good (but ironically this book refers back to those first 2 books more than once). A minor negative is lengthy explanations that are probably required but kind of boring for the reader. The sexual nature of those first books is missing and would have been horribly out of place in this present storyline which to me is the sign of a good author that knows when/where/who to have sexual scenes and when it does not belong at all, kudos once again for not following the pack in the "everything is erotic and sex sells so sex scenes are required always" mindset that permeates this whole genre anymore. The ending does not leave you feeling cheated, it is a good ending, you know more serious stuff is coming but she managed to write in a good place to pause for the ending, kudos once again since with all this action that was not a minor accomplishment. This is the first 5 Star rating I have given this series in several books but I feel it is deserved, it might be more like 4.5 but I rounded it up, Highly recommended.
I have this recurring dream where I have to solve a puzzle of some sort, but I can never find a solution, because the puzzle keeps changing and shifting. It's very frustrating and I wake up more tired than I was when I went to bed.
This book gave me the same frustration as that dream. No matter what Kara did, there was always something new and nefarious to add to her already overwhelming pile of problems. Like juggling 50 porcupines while standing on 1 foot on a skateboard, skating through a busy mall on black friday with no end in sight. It was just too much. At around the 60% mark I reached my limit. I'm putting this one back on the shelf for now, at least until the final book comes out and there is some prospect or hope for a solution.
Kara has had her power cut and is isolated away from the demon lords (except one). But she has no time to just sit back without power – her best friend is bereft, her baby is missing
And the world is under siege – there are rifts appearing everywhere, spewing out demons, some of them completely unlike anything Kara has seen before. The world knows about demons – because they’re under constant attack and have very few experts who can actually fight back.
While the demon lords are overwhelmed trying to stop the end of both their worlds.
I actually had trouble getting into this book. Because it’s all there! This book series is now eight books long and it’s all in this book. All of it. Things that happened in all the seven books before this, all that rich world building, all those dramatic events, all of those amazing storylines and characters and world building – it’s ALL THERE
Honestly, I wish, sincerely, that I had the time to start again on book one and appreciate every little part of this amazing story because I think this is really the only way to truly absorb the hugeness of this book. Especially since it has been a year since I last read this excellent series.
This reminds me of just how very rich this world is and how much has grown from the very beginning and is still growing. This book contains so many absolutely amazing developments, revelations which builds so much more on this word. I love that there is more to develop, I love that there is so much more to this world than we have seen and that when we finally thought we had so many answers it actually turns out…
Yes I was always going to use this gif
In any other book I would yell “too much!”. And I’m not even sure why I don’t on this one. There’s so much here. The world building grows exponentially with revelations about the demon world, the nature of potency, the nature of the Demon Lords, the rifts, the demon clans, the history of the demons – that’s all huge world building developments. It’s immense and makes the whole world look so much different and have so much potential for more stories. Then we have Kara’s relationships, Mzatal, her aunt, her own history, her power, her new friends, her old friends. There’s amazing complexity like how she deals with Rhyzkhal.
And oh how I was suspicious about this because it looked like we were going to go down that horrible redemption train route with this utter villain – but even while he was humanised and Kara saw more to him than the many who persecuted and tortured her, she still also maintained her anger. Ultimately her decisions and evolution towards him felt a lot more like her own growth and revelations than ever it was actually about him – yes, it felt like a quasi-forgiveness path that focused more on the victim. I still can’t say I was happy by it but it was far more substantive than a standard rapid redemption pathway.
Then there’s her relationship with Jill which is PERFECT. I mean they’re not perfect – they’re sometimes short with each other and say careless things and they understand they forgive and the apologise and they love and care for each other and it’s just such an awesome, amazing friendship.
There’s some really excellent, complex biplay between Kara and Idris (because every relationship here is complex and excellent) and some great interactions with people she doesn’t get on with but is willing to work with.
Oh and Kara is badass and totally in charge. She’s an expert, she knows it and she is respected for it.
On top of that we have some really great action scenes and a whole demon invasion and Kara taking point and control above and beyond the Lords or anyone else. And a demonic mutation plague. And kittens!
Well I'm back in the world of demon summoner Kara Gillin and what a lot she has to put up with! Constantly knowing she might be the only one who can save the world and yet those bureaucrats at the FBI and Homeland Security still get in her way. You would think being Arcane Commander and the woman who came up with DIRT , not to mention Kara's connection to certain demon lords would cut her some slack but no as this book begins yet again Kara is in the thick of it. An awful lot has happened as this series has chugged along and it no longer has the police procedure edge that initially gave it such a unique voice in urban fantasy. This book sees a much greater understanding of the demon realm and just how almost dependent on each other the two worlds are. It's still an action packed fast moving story but there's time to flesh out the readers understanding of the arcane and just how the demon lords truly fit in . Yes there are huge revelations here and Kara boldly takes a chance on a character that few would trust. My advice is buckle up as it's an awfully bumpy ride but for this reader so worth it. It's not a short read and there are complications spitting out everywhere but the depth and breadth of this authors imagination is astounding. A mixture of happy and sad moments and a huge conundrum at the end but that's why I read this series because I can never guess what's coming next I was gifted a copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

Diana Rowland's Legacy of the Demon is the Eight installment in the authors Kara Gillian series. Legacy of the Demon fills in the missing gaps and open questions from the previous books and continues to build on the complex world Dianna created. So, timeline wise, we are looking at (2) months from the ending of Vengeance of the Demon. Demons have been coming through the rifts ever since the arcane valve explosion at the Beaulac Police Department, and Kara has become a member of DIRT (Demonic Incursion Retaliation and Tactics) as well as Arcane Commander along with Vince Pellini, arcane specialist.
This was a nice return into the interpersonal relations of the main characters along with new revelations about the main arc of the worlds. It seems as some of the lessons from the previous book were implemented here into a more coherent, though still a bit stressful at times. At times I was sure this book will close all of the threads, but at the end some new twists were revealed. IMHO the series has enough interesting capturing characters that I would be quite content to follow their mundane day to day lives even without any world threatening circumstances.
I always really like the way Rowland writes law enforcement characters, they really ring true. Which of course makes sense since she was one and worked with them in several capacities over the years. It's also a series that is currently very different from where it started out. It was very police procedural, American-based urban fantasy/romance in the beginning, then it moved completely away from the police casework entirely, and then off Earth. Now it’s back to Earth pretty much, but despite all of the police characters it's become military more than anything due to the situation. Despite all of the changes, there hasn't exactly been much character development recently. Pellini and his former partner have changed, or appeared to change as Kara got to know them better and they had a chance to show better aspects of themselves, more than the major characters have. Kara has learned skills but I don't think she's actually changed much. Maybe she's more confident. But she still trusts the wrong people. And all of the characters from the demon realm are too much of cypher a to have a clue about if they've changed or not.
It also felt like one of those romance novels where the couple has been artificially split up to make the series last longer, trying to deal with the Sam and Diane thing, and it’s always annoys me. It wasn't so bad this time but it was weird that Mzatal as a character in this book was mostly referred to and not seen. I get it, if he was there he'd have dominated a lot of the story when it was important for Kara and the humans to struggle through doing things on their own, without easy answers and "lordy" power other than what Kara was able to tap into from the nexus. But it felt too close to the kind of thing that was what irritated me in, for example, Chloe Neill’s “Chicagoland Vampire” books for way too many books, couple artificially force apart instead of not working together as a team. But I still love Kara and I want to see her succeed. There are lot of intriguing elements and I want to see how this journey ends.
This is one time that I had wished I read the book instead of listening to it and not because of anything wrong with the narration, I love Liv Anderson, she has been consistent with her characters throughout the series and I have loved and looked forward to listening to her. The issue I have is, this world is so complex and it started in the beginning of the series and now 8 books later we are starting to get answers to some of those burning questions. However, do to the complexity of the questions the answers are just as complex. So I find myself in a quandary of not quite grasping everything that has happened or is explained. I plan on re-listening to the book and possible even purchasing the paperback and reading it. I even contemplated holding off doing the review until I went through it a second time.
I was torn how to rate this, because the way I listen to audiobooks I am usually doing other things, driving, getting ready in the am, etc. With Legacy of the Demon you need to give it 100% focus to fully soak up the story and all its nuances. So with the way it stand I am giving the story 4 Boundless stars I like it but I am going to listen or read it again. But as it stands, the story is still full of action, suspense, twists and turns and one seriously kick ass heroin!...Sara
Loved reading this book, it was such a fantastic read, so much happened, and I can't wait to see how it all concludes now!
*First Read September 27th, 2016* Oh, my, what a fantastic book! Such a great sequel, so much happens, and I can't believe there's only going to be one more book after this to finish the series (I think I read!) Yeah, really awesome book!
I want to know what happens but this book read SO slow. It was hard for me to keep all the characters straight between books--it wasn't till I finished the ebook that I noticed it had a glossary.
Beyond good. So different from the other books. Like you kinda need a sci-fi/fantasy PHD to process and fully get this book. It’s filled to the brim with so much information and answers and complicated twists and turns. I often felt like I was back taking organic chemistry and feeling overwhelmed. Each answers gave 5 more questions. Don’t get me wrong the story and book in general are kinda brilliant. But it’s not for the beginner or the faint hearted. It’s also in no way regular UF. It’s very much sci-fi and fantasy. I mean we’re now in alien territory. I kept thinking about the movie Independence Day. It has that feel throughout. It’s humans and military fighting the aliens. So if you’re not into military/war/battle scenes. And not into aliens. And not into a million twists and turns. This book isn’t for you. If you want an easy breezy cop procedural with lots of romance. This book isn’t for you. And normally this type of book would totally not be my thing. But this one was good. Complex. But good. A few things I totally loved: -That moment between Mzatal and Kara in the first 20% of the book. It was so beyond romantic and sweet and loving and intense. It was on a whole nother level. I could honestly FEEL their love and bond. It was so intense. Truly special and beautiful. I love Mzatal so much and I love their love and bond. It’s very special. And the author better not fuck that up in the last book. Like for real. - Just the depth and beauty of this book. It has so many layers. And it truly goes far beyond a “regular” fantasy/ UF books. The author has created a world that she herself is the Ekkiri of. She holds all its secrets. And she already knows the future. We the readers are just mere observers. Mere spectators in her world. You can feel the moment when the author changed in this series. When the world opened itself to her and sucked her in. She became the story. And that’s special to witness. You could feel her confidence change. And her way of writing change. And where she wants to go as a writer change. That’s beautiful.
So many questions have been answered. But there is still so much that needs to be wrapped up/ explained/ resolved. I hope the last book does all this justice. The only thing I’m begging for is that KARA AND MZATAL STAY TOGETHER AND IN LOVE. And for the lords to be happy and free. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I would totally recommend this series to Sarah J Maas fans! Many similar elements and lots of thrill, but with more companionable atmosphere and a million times more fun. I must not forget to add that I enjoyed the subjectivity of the narration very much. One more book to go!
I won't lie, I was completely lost when I started reading LEGACY OF THE DEMON. You find out pretty quick that there was a lot of information missed between book 7, VENGEANCE OF THE DEMON and now. In fact, months have passed, Kara is part of a new team and her new job title is a pretty big deal—the president calls her big—, demons are causing major havoc due to the dimensional rift that happened at the end of VENGEANCE OF THE DEMON, and on top of that, she is dead set on finding Jill's daughter, Ashava, Zack and Ryan.
There was a lot of action in LEGACY OF THE DEMON. So much that it really overpowered the storyline in some spots. I don't think I have ever said that before. We find out a lot more about the Elinor/Rowan story and it was pretty shocking to learn that Rhyzkahl isn't as bad as I thought he was. In fact, a lot of secrets were revealed from front to back of LEGACY OF THE DEMON.
I have no clue how I feel about Kara and Mzatal anymore. They don't have a lot of time together in LEGACY OF THE DEMON and it's hard to feel their connection when they aren't together. Then again, this is an urban fantasy not a paranormal romance. I just like romance.
I really miss the feel of the early Kara Gillian books, I really loved the police work and the investigating. I think LEGACY OF THE DEMON moved a little more in that direction, so maybe it will move even farther there in book 9. One can hope.

Legacy of the Demon: Demon Novels, Book Eight (Kara Gillian) is the best book yet, in this series. Kara and everyone are now dealing with the fallout of what happened with the last book. Now the world has demons, strange plants, and mutated animals loose in the world. She has to find a way to close the rifts safely and find Jill's daughter Ashava and Zack. The book starts of with a lot of action, Kara and a group of specialists are trying to catch a demon who has come thru one of the rifts. They also have to close the rift safely to prevent the demons from coming thru that rift. There is practically non-stop action in this book. I could not put it down. I had to know what was going to happen next. I have fallen in love with these characters and this world that Diana Rowland has created. The world building has been phenomenal! if you have not started this series, I urge you to run out and get it. Diana Rowland has not disappointed me yet. I give LEGACY OF THE DEMON 5/5 STARS.
I took my time with this one. It's a pretty long book and I didn't rush through it. A lot of things made me mad. Like how she didn't torture Rhyzkahl. Ugh and how she let him go near the end. The bastard, I hate him so much. I wasn't much for Mzatal in this book either considering how he was always away. In fact, the only guy i did like with Kara, believe it or not, was Palini. I know right? Their friendship is great now.
I miss Ryan like crazy and it hurts knowing he was never really there but I guess in a way, Ryan had to go so that she could fall fully in love with Mzatal. Still sucks ass though!
I hope Bryce and Jill HAPPEN. I'm so over Zac and Jill. I never shipped them anyway.
I wanted to see more of Paul but I'm glad we got to see more of Michael instead in this book. I really like him.
I also really like how Kara has grown as a person.
Looks like I need a new series while I wait for the next book in this series.
I was a little confused to what was going on when I immediately started reading and, after 50 pages into the book, I realized the amount of time that has passed. It was good until it came to the middle. It felt the incentive to keep on reading diminished immediately. After that happened, I kind of “forced myself” to keep on reading to what was going to happen. It did help a little bit when it came around the 330ish page mark. There are gaps that I still need answers to and there were unnecessary parts of the plot that I thought could’ve been left out. I’m still conflicting with myself if I should continue the series… -_- On a 1 to 10 scale, possibly 4 of 10 stars
