In recent years, a doctrinal shift has taken place among believers so great that even the secular press has taken notice. Christians across denominational lines are laying hold of the biblical truth of God’s electing love and saving grace in Christ, commonly called ‘Calvinism.’ For many, this marks the beginning of a deeper study into the whole counsel of God in Scripture. A thirst to be thoroughly biblical in all areas of life is driving a more comprehensive present-day reformation beyond the famous ‘five points.’ This book captures the voices of seasoned Reformed pastors graciously guiding and encouraging Christ’s beloved sheep to press on and to seek the ‘old paths, where the good way is’ (Jer. 6:16). In this anthology you will be instructed concerning the abiding relevance of the Ten Commandments, God-centered worship, the masterful unfolding of God’s great plan of redemption through divine covenants, the identity, nature, and work of the church, and the help that confessions of faith lend to our grasp of God’s glorious Word.
For some time now most of the theological books I’ve been reading have been reiterations of information that I’m somewhat familiar with, which is a good thing. But, this book was a bit different. Reading this book, I felt like I was really learning new material. Or at least things I haven't quite put into motion in my own life. This is the kind of book I wish every Believer would read. Especially those who adhere to the doctrines of grace. Highly recommend.
A great work by the authors and editor to produce a book which teaches and emulates the historical and orthodox legacy of the church. This volume has provided me with assurance and clarity on previous convictions that were unsure. This is a helpful work for anyone who wants to understand the Scriptures more and see how they should reflect in belief and practice
An absolute must-read for every Confessional Reformed Credo-baptist, Pastor, Church-member and reformed Church-seeker to discover and preserve our historical continuity.
Challies' 2016 Reading Challenge #1 - a book about Christian living
A few quotes I liked: ~ "To require the church to exercise discipline against doctrinal error without a published confession of faith is to require it to make bricks without straw." ~ "A church without a confession of faith has the theological and ecclesiastical equivalent of AIDS, with no immunity against the infectious winds of false doctrine." ~ "As Spurgeon said, speaking of the importance of confessions, 'Weapons which are offensive to our enemies should never be allowed to rust.' ” ~ "Both love and law are necessary for the Christian. Obedience to law is useless without love. Expressing our love is impossible without law." ~ "One of the effects of God working grace in a soul is renovating His image in us, being re-created in righteousness and holiness of the truth (Eph. 4:24; Col. 3:10) and having the law re-written on our hearts..."
There's more to being "Reformed" than just liking tulips
A great collection of essays relating to application of reformed theology throughout the life of the Christian and the organization of Christ's church.
