After ten years and fifteen combat deployments overseas Ex Army Ranger Thomas Cole is living a simple, peaceful life. But when a woman from his past, a woman he once loved, asks him to use his Special Operations training and skills to help her, he reluctantly sets aside his quiet life. What begins as a favor leads Tom to stolen drugs, dead bodies, meth dealers and White Supremacist, sending him down a path of death and danger with no turning back.
Scott Jones was born and raised in the Midwest, dropped out of college to join the military. Married, raised two kids, wrote over the years until pause a few years ago to take real employment to pay college bills. The Thomas Cole series of books came about in talking to his son, an Army Ranger, who lamented the lack of Rangers as heroes in fiction.
A straight forward good guy vs bad guy story. An easy and enjoyable read. Tom didn't try to be Superman or be invincible. He got the bad guys but it had it's costs. If this a series opener, it's off to a great start!
but won't be the last book of his I read. In fact, I've already got the next one. I wasn't sure what to expect,, when I started this book. It was such a pleasant surprise, to read a new author i enjoyed so much. Right from the first chapter. The book went fast and smooth to read. There was no lack of action or valuable information about the story. I really liked the main guy, Tom. He was a good guy, who wanted the world safe, from the pond scum, of this world, and wasn't afraid to make that happened. I really liked his friends. They were good characters and gave the story some humor. I liked the fact Tom didn't hesitate to eliminate the bad guys, or make them wish they were. Scott Jones book was excellent. It held my interest throughout the entire book. Never felt the need to skip any pages. Couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I would really like to thank Scott for having his books in Kindle Unlimited. Do yourself a favor and read Scott Jones books!!
Tom Cole is an Ex Army-Ranger who has kept himself in condition, instead of going to seed with beer and take away food. He is not police or a private detective, but he steps up when a friend asks for help. This story is more of a case of dealing out rough justice, rather than detection. The police are definitely kept in the dark.
I quite enjoyed this hard-boiled thriller. Tom is an interesting man. He can't really let injustice go: he is driven. He is certainly someone you would want to have on your side, and not against.
The plot moves along swiftly, and there are no dull spots. There is plenty of action in the second half of the book, so get ready for excitement.
Yeah! This one has all the right elements. Damsel in distress, past love, honest friends, and even a dog. Well written story and aptly titled. I've had this book lying around for quite a while and just now got around to reading it. Wish I hadn't waited so long. Great character development, great plot, lots of suspense, and well choreographed action. Kudos to Jones. I'm looking forward to reading much more by this author.
Straightforward; that's the one word description that occurred to me. If you like Jack Reacher, I'm guessing you're going to love Tom Cole. Good plot, a bit simplistic, but the most serious drawback is carelessness with language. I recommend an editor, or if you have one, consider making a change.
When his ex wife calls him to help her little sister with her abusive Ex husband, he tries to get the man to back off with a friendly warning. When the guy ends up dead & the sister goes missing Thomas is on a hunt for the sister before it's too late.
An ex Army Ranger finding his way in the world, but not finding his path! His ex wife reaches out when her sister is badly beaten by her scumbag boyfriend! Vickie asks Thomas for help because her younger sister Jenny fears for her life! Thomas agrees to help dissuade boyfriend from future reprisals! Thus is born the bringer of justice!
Scott Jones is off to a great start with the first book of the "Thomas Cole" series 'Hero Complex'. It introduces Tom, a former Army Ranger, that's looking for something.
A former Ranger is asked by his ex to check on her little sister's beau, and so it begins. Think murder, home invasion, friends helping friends, all the usual Ranger stuff, and a possible new girlfriend.
The Hero Complex was a great read. I’m not usually interested in books with a vigilante twist but this one was easy to read and understand and you felt his character was justified. It was interesting to get to know the people around him and I truly look forward to reading the next book.
I downloaded this because several like-minded Goodreads reviewers gave it high ratings. After reading it, I have to agree. It is a good action read; a basic good-guy/bad-guy type, with some banter between the main character and his good friend thrown in.
... to the series, but they do get better. Author needs to know a LOT more about guns, and correct the part where a shotgun turns into a rifle, then back
I give this a five stars for the story being a good and attention holding kind of reading. The more of Scott Jones' books I read, the more I like them.
The author of this book is a sexual abuser. Despite this, he has been allowed access to the children within his family. Do not let this man have a platform. Please report his account.
I think I am going to really like this series. Book one. Hero Complex was extremely good. Tom is a man who believes in the Bible verse, ROMANS 3:8, Let us do evil that good may come. And boy can he do evil! He is a veteran who feels the need to look after those who can not, or, are to afraid to help themselves. WOW!
