***** 5 Fighting Back Stars *****

Scarred is a 6 part series and I have to say I LOVED EVERY DAMN WORD OF IT.

Some might say this book is similar to a lot of other books out there. Danzel in distress dealing with abuse from the hands of two men. Sexy, rich, amazing man stepping in and protecting. BUT......this book has so much more for the short read that it is.

 photo scarred_zpslocrzafo.jpg

Kelly Ward is a woman that has endured endless abuse first at the hands of her horrible adopted father. After 8 years of emotional, physical and sexual abuse she finally moves on to college and meets the amazing, Jesse Donovan. First off, their relationship is amazing. Jesse has taken over her life. Helped her escape the abuse of her father, but things take a drastic change as Jeese begins to drink a lot and becomes a monster himself.

After 2 years of enduring abuse by her lovers hand, she fights back and things go very bad. As she fights for her life, she knows Jesses is going to kill her. She escapes him for a brief moment to give her a chance to call her friend to call the police. Jesse gets his hands on her again, only this time he has a knife and then she sees darkness.

Jesse, being the son of NY's District Attorney, gets a cushy deal of only getting 2 years for assault.

After surviving the attempted murder on her life, Kelly changes everything about herself, name, identity, body and soul in hopes to hiding from Jesse as he is set to be released from jail very soon.

Kelly Ward becomes Chloe Green and life is good as she is working to feel safe in her new life. As she works a job she hates as an exotic dancer to save money to finish her schooling to become a teacher, she meets Derek Stark.

Derek Stark is captivated by Chloe. He has to get to know everything about her. He is nothing but amazing in this book. Complete gentleman as he learns the truth tiny bit by bit about Chloe. Derek has a secret of his own that rocks Chloe's world. You must read to find this one out.

Honestly....Derek Stark has to be one of my top Heroes in a book. LOVE HIM!!!!

This short read is filled with action pack secrets and twists. This book is one SUPRISE READ that I simply loved and could not put down.

I really liked this book. I thought the author did an amazing job with connecting me to the characters in less than 100 pages. However, I will not be reading any other books in the series. This is a personal preference. The story introduced something I hate and I know I will question in every book I read. I loved the hero and the heroine in the book, but what I found out (cliffy) just turned me off from the series.

Chloe was almost murdered when her boyfriend tried to kill her. He was sent away to prison. She changed her name, hair, and eye color. Now Chloe is working at a strip club. She is not a whore. She does not date or sleep with men. She does not take off her clothes. Her body is covered with scares. She just dances around a pole. One day Chloe gets an offer to only dance for one client for one week. That client is Derek. A self made millionaire or billionaire. I am not sure. He has a lot of money. He repeatedly tries to date Chloe, and she keeps saying no, until he gives her an offer she can not refuse. This was just the type of story I love. I loved these characters. I loved them together. I am not saying to not read it. The series is on AMAZON UNLIMITED so if you are a subscriber you have nothing to lose by trying it.

http://www.amazon.com/Kylie-Walker/e/...

It may be something you love and I gave this book 4 stars because it was good, but the series and revelation is not for me.

DO NOT READ THE SPOILER since it will give away the cliffy and the spoiler will tell you what I found is the topic for the next book in the series. The spoiler is note to self in case I come back to this series a year or two from now, I can remember why I could not continue. This is my opinion.

Chloe Green is two years old, she's strong and independent, nothing like Kelly Ward the broken, abused girl who managed to escape with her life. New identity, new life, Chloe is a dancer at an exclusive gentleman's club and while she hates the job with every fibre of her being its paying for college and her dream of becoming a teacher.
While Chloe is the confident dancer who's sworn off men Kelly was the girl who'd been used and beaten her whole life, it's all she knew from her step-father to her boyfriend Jesse who disguised the monster he truly was for so long.
Chloe may be new but Kelly's fear still lives within her and Jesse's prison term is coming to an end and she has to wonder how long it will be before he finds her.
As you can see Chloe has enough to deal with and men just aren't on her list at all but when Derek Stark turns up at the club and seems fixated on her she's looking or an ulterior motive, why her? Could he have some connection to Jesse? She just needs to keep her distance but that's easier said than done when for the first time ever Chloe feels desire, she's attracted to the gorgeous man she doesn't know if she can trust.
This book was interesting, well written and kept me hooked until the cliffhanger ending and no I did not see that coming I knew there was something but not that not that, the next book is out so there's no wait but I'm not sure how many books are in this series, I can see 5 so far, hopefully that's all.

This is a six part serial, each installment being 170-90 pages each. I'm writing this review for the series as a whole.

Book one was promising and I'd give it a solid 3 1/2 stars.

Chloe is introduced as an abuse victim that's reinvented herself as an exotic dancer. Her abusers left her scarred emotionally and physically. She's taken various steps to become a stronger, more self-reliant, but equally closed off within her new identity. She's simply not interested in men. It's very easy to empathize with Chloe's plight in life and understand her feelings.

Enter Derek, a rich, sexy guy that Chloe isn't quite sure what to make of; on one hand she meets him at her strip club which automatically makes Chloe skeptical of his intentions and on the other hand he doesn't act like the usual strip club "perv."

The big question is why Derek is so interested in dating Chloe. *cue theatrical music* - Dun...dun... Dun...

The characters are developed well enough. The writing itself is okay... A little slow & minor technical errors, but nothing horrendous. The plot of past abuse, threat of future abuse, and budding new romance clouded in mystery is interesting enough to suck readers into the series.

Chloe can be prudish & hypocritical at times...

Chloe constantly refers to her customers, all of them, as pervs. I'm positive there are a lot of weirdos, but to just use a broad stroke like that & constantly put down on ALL the customers when SHE is earning a living as a dancer makes her seem very hypocritical and prudish. She makes a lot of passive aggressive digs at the strippers & customers.

By Book Six, The Bad Far Outweighs The Good

I'm at the end of the series, & each book just seems to get more and more frustrating, slow, and repetitive. Very small amounts of new info and new happenings are surrounded by a lot of repeat and monotonous shiznet in each book past the second installment.

The abuse is an important plot point and the full scale of it is something that's slowly given little bits at a time through the first couple of books. That's fine, but it becomes irritating for the author to constantly repeat the same info again and again each time new details emerge.

Same with the journal entires. It's mostly a repeat or recap of old info that does nothing but slow the pace and stifle the flow of the story.

All the inner musings on trust and the past were repetitive and boring.

Anger, concerns, and fears go entirely too quickly from hot to cold, cold to hot. One minute Chloe is determined to go home and not see her suitor again for various different reasons that she DETAILS extensively to readers and the next minute they're having sex. One minute she's leery of everyone, the next minute she's accepting new friends and family with "I love you" all around.

There are several different major coincidences here at play with the connection between Chloe's past & Derek. One can be considered right time, right place. But, both the parents and the ex being connected to Derek's life was overkill and just not very buyable.

By book five, the book turns into a Jennifer Lopez movie WITH a slow, boring layout.

By book six, I don't give a shit Nd just want this to end already. This is a 300 page story that the author serialized into over 600 pages. What could've been a decent story was simply suffocated to an I don't f'ing care anymore point.

I don't like slow & tedious. I don't like reading the same thoughts more than once. But, to be fair, if that type of writing doesn't bother you and you're fond of the JLo movie "Enough," then you'll likely enjoy the series.

I give the series a generous 2 stars.

I seriously don’t understand how this book is so highly rated.. Am I reading a different book than everyone else?... There’s next to no punctuation or grammar, so many spelling mistakes, and the whole thing is so unbelievable. I would be FLOORED if this actually went to an editor. (If it did, said editor needs a new profession stat!) Honestly.. I just went back and forth from complete boredom to laughing in disbelief.

“They followed the signs to the gorilla exhibit. It was a natural habitat where they were swinging from trees and long, thick cords that were strung across the wide opening. Chloe watched them swing from one tree to the next, sometimes letting go with their hands or their tail and flying through the air to catch the next one.”

.... Gorillas don’t swing from tree to tree with their tails. I don’t even think they HAVE tails.

I just couldn’t get behind this book at all.

SPOILER WARNING!!! I’m gonna do my best not to give to much away but even just a brief description and my thought may give something away so be warned. Also this is kinda a dark read. Not so much with the romance between the MCs but with the storyline for the heroine. She has endured some of the worst of the worst you can imagine and most likely some you can’t imagine. Possible trigger: Child abuse physical and sexual, rape and domestic violence. There is some pretty descriptive details as she explains her childhood to others as well as some of the violence she endures in present time.

So here goes.... basically it starts out

Right off the bat first page the h is hiding in a bathroom as she is talking to someone on the phone asking for them to get help that Jesse who you assume is a boyfriend/husband is trying to kill her. We end the chapter with him getting to her and she is passing out from blood loss just as the police enter.

Chloe Green is a survivor and has spent the last 2 years making a new life for herself. She has changed her name, her looks, and moved(although not very far which was weird). She has spent every possible moment training to protect herself and to become physically stronger. Chloe knows once Jesse her ex boyfriend is released he will be coming for her to finish what he started. Chloe meets Derek Stark he is the first man that has made her feel that spark of life, the first man she has felt any sort of connection to let alone interest in since her ex tried to kill her 2 years before.

Derek Stark is an awesome hero. He’s patient and knows what Chloe needs even when he has no idea what is happening. He sticks by her even through all the crazy. Derek takes Chloe on a life changing path you won’t see coming. There are some twist and turns as she finds out more about who she is and about where Derek comes from.

Jesse is released from prison and sets out to do exactly what he told Chloe he would. Chloe knows the only way she will be completely free of Jesse is for one of them to die. It’s only a matter of time.

This book series overall I gave 4 Stars. It was intriguing and a roller coaster of a ride that keeps you on the edge waiting to see what’s gonna happen next. I loved both MCs and also the secondary characters brought more life to the story. I love that after the dust settles and they were back to a somewhat normal life I still got more of there story I got there HEA. It didn’t just end after the drama I feel like I got full closure.

A couple small complaints..... I felt like there was some unnecessary details that just made the book longer then needed and brought nothing to the story. For example reading journal entries. I found myself skimming trough some areas. Also in the first book the dialogue seemed to be lacking. I don’t know if it was because Chloe was still cautious and untrusting or if the author was getting her groove, however it did get better after the first book. Also last thing and it may be a matter of interpretation. I’m hoping I can describe this without giving to much away but still so you know what I’m talking about if you read it. By the end of the book I was 100% convinced of Chloe and Derek’s love and that he was with her for her not for what she represents. With that said I felt like I needed a little more reassurance that Chloe was the stronger of the two between past and present. Not to say the author should have discounted his past and made it a bad situation but I wanted reassurance that Chloe and Derek were ultimately a better match and each other end game: I guess I feel like I needed something a little more in that department. It’s hard to describe like I said I fully believed in there love and future I guess I just wanted something more to close out his past. But not a big deal I still really enjoyed this read.

I have never read this author but I’m so glad I did this book was riveting. Also on KU! Definitely worth giving a try

Kelly Ward was a woman abused first by her father and her boyfriend. She has many scars over her body as a result of the abuse. When Jessy, her drunk boyfriend, tried to kill her the police saved her and he was jailed. In order to hide from her past she changed her name, physical appearance, job and different city. Now, she was Chloe Green. As her new job she was a pole dancer in a club and she didn’t like it, but she had to live a save money. There she met a client Derek Stark, a wealthy man who wanted more than a dance and she for the first time in two years let her feel something. But he had not been honest with her and the cliffhanger showed that there was more for Chloe to be afraid. From the beginning this first book was intense and full of suspense. What happened in the first chapter built a lot of emotion. I was impressed with the action and how this woman empowered herself to take control of her life and look for herself. She did not let her guard down. The narrations made me feel the logic of her suspicious and doubts. I think that Chloe thinking was well organized and task directed; to protect herself. On the other hand, Derek seemed too good to be true. Like Chloe I was doubtful about him and the sudden cliffhanger confirmed it. Liked the author style and the characters. This book was the beginning and I’m so eager to know the truth about Derek. Liked it very much.

All five of these books were like a cup of folgers coffee, Good To The Last Drop! Most series I read slowly die out as it progresses. Not with this series. This story was a perfect balance of good, bad, and ugly. The story is very well written and will most definitely pull at your heart strings. For every horrible scene we have to live through with Chloe, the author gave us a ray of hope for better things to come.

You get to know every main and sub character so well that you care about them all. For every act of hate committed towards Chloe, there was a greater act of love that put all the hate to shame. The story is written so well that you can see each scene as clearly as if you were there watching the story take place. Although the author didn't elaborate on detail (for which I'm glad), you could still smell the fresh air, hear the police sirens, feel every cut of the knife.

I cannot wait for the last book to come out in a few days, because this story was the most captivating story I have read this year. (I do say that often), but I really mean it again. I am so glad that a friend sent me the link to this series because I'll be looking for more great stories from Kylie Walker.

I also want to say that this author understands how to give you the shock value without going too far. Loved It!!!!

Wow this was a really intense and intriguing read where introduce to Chloe who's carrying around a lot of emotional baggage and is also running away from her past she even goes as far as changing her identity. Trying to move on with her new life she starts working at a club as a pole dancer to save up enough money to finish her teaching degree even though she hates working there is the quickest way for her to get fast cash. While working there just introduced to a new client by the name of Derek who she's find really confusing even though he's not like the rest of her clients she dances for there's just something about him that keeps her waning to know more but she also knows that he wants more than she willing to give even with that being said as they get to know one another the walls that she's put up slowly starts crumbling down. Even when you're trying really hard to conceal the scars from your past and let your guard down something is bound to happen right. It's does kinda of end with a suspense cliffhanger but I can't wait to see what's going to happen next.

Scarred (Book 1)
by Kylie Walker

Scarred is and ongoing read from book to book.

Book 1 tells Chloe's back story and what she has gone through, and goes into her meeting Derek.

Chloe Green is in hiding from an ex, a past, that she hopes to keep in the past. She has few friends and she isn't able to trust them enough to tell them about her past. She no longer trusts men, at all. She's a pole dancer and en exclusive club. She hates it, but she won't have to do it much longer.

Derek Stark is a Real estate mogul. Not one to go to strip clubs of any type, until a friend shows him a picture of pole dancer. He is very intrigued and wants to meet her. So, he goes to the club and pays to have her dance, just for him, for a few nights.

Derek really likes Chloe and wants to get to know her better, so he asks her to go to dinner. Chloe decides that one date will be enough to get him to leave her alone. After all, she isn't interested in any type of relationship. One date, then she is done. Or is she?

Scarred is about a woman who has to sacrifice in order to stay safe. After having an abusive childhood, she ended up with an abusive boyfriend. On the run so the abusive ex does not find her, she does what she has to do to do to stay safe. Kelly becomes Chloe. Still striving for the goal of becoming a teacher, Chloe becomes a pole dancer (not a stripper) to pay for her education. She is determined to not allow another man to destroy her as her family and ex-boyfriend have in the past. Until she meets Derek. Can her heart stay locked away with him in her life? You will have to read to find out. This book will capture your heart quickly and the suspense will keep you wanting more.

Note: This is the beginning of the series and does lay the groundwork for the rest of the series. There is a cliffhanger and I personally am looking forward to what is to come in the series. Since there is abuse and sexual content it is definitely meant for 18 and over.

After an abusive childhood and later an abusive boyfriend Kelly runs to free herself of the horrors and finds herself in a new town with a new job and a new identity. Now 'Chloe' is aware that the abusive ex is due out of prison she is being even more vigilant yet her walls are crumbling after a new client Derek, requests that she dance for him for a whole week and no other! yes she is a pole dancer(not a stripper) being the best source of securing an income so that she can then complete her teaching degree and her dreams.
This book sets the characters up well and sets a great story, to date, in place with good penmanship from Kylie Walker, Im truly happy to have received thisARC in return for my honest review. Of course there is an unexpected cliff hanger and I can't wait for the next book

This was an intriguing read. Some scars are easily seen and others are hidden. Chloe is hiding from her past which has scarred her in both ways. She has changed her identity and works as a dancer at a club to save money to get her degree as a teacher. She makes a lot of money but it kills her to be there. Derek is a new client who wants something more and she is not sure how to handle that. You are not sure what to make of him. The end of book one leaves you in suspense. I am really looking forward to seeing how this all develops. Chloe and Derek are complicated and it will be interesting to see how their relationship develops. It feels like there are lots of secrets to come. I received an ARC from the author in return for a honest review.

This book starts off the series and the opening is very intense. Kelly has to leave her old life behind and start new as Chloe. Her new job dancing at a gentleman's club is helping reach her goal of her dream of teaching. She has sworn off men, but then Derek walks into the club. Now she's breaking her rules, but does Derek have ulterior motives? Can she take a chance on him? I would love to see more of his point of view. The cliffhanger makes me sit the edge of my seat anticipating the next book. For what Chloe has endured you want her to find some happiness. I have to wait and see if Derek will be the one to do it.

I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.
From the first chapter I was hooked. Chloe has endured so much in her life and as this book starts off you can read what she went thru and by the time chapter two comes around she is finally after two years starting to move on and make something of her life.
For being a novella we still get quite a bit of back story and I felt it wasnt rushed at all and flowed very well.
Derek seems to me to be a real gentleman but right at the end of the story we find out he is hiding something pretty big and thats when Kylie leaves us with a doozy of a cliffhangar.
Quick enjoyable read and Im looking forward to part two.

WHY!!! Did this book have to be broken up like this. OMG and that cliffhanger. Ok ok guys, this book had me yawning in the beginning I will not tell a lie. Things were written in a way that moved the story forward very abruptly. In saying that, pay attention to small details. It was those small details that completely made that ending catch me by suprise. Chole is written rather judgemental for my own liking but it's because of her traumatic past so I understand. Dereck I just wanna pinch those cheeks of his he's so cute but still manly in a good way. I have to read the rest of the novellas before I fully decided to recommend this to anyone yet but so far not to bad a read.

Not a bad story all together but what kept me from loving the book was 1) Chloe/Kelly/Sophia cried so much, literally every page it was of her crying. I got this off Amazon with all 6 parts in 1..... So yeah that's a lot of crying. I get she lived through traumatic experiences but damn girl, suck it up and be the tough girl we are all being told you are. All the crying makes for a weak character - ain't nobody got time for that! 2) It was too busy, you couldn't tell whos POV you were reading right off. It started off as just Chloe, then Derek's character jumps in, then there's Jesse's, then Derek's brother Jake. 3) It had major creepy factors that I just got the heebiejeebies. "I'm sorry what!??..... I'm your dead wife's twin that nobody knew was still alive- let's just continue this relationship and have nobody have a problem with it, it's fine." Although to be fair, the author did try their hardest to convince the reader that Derek loved Chloe/Kelly/Sophia because she was her own person.... It still produced significant doubt with how they came to be. 4) The whole thing was drawn out too much, there were just too many side stories which made it last much longer than necessary just to have an anticlimactic ending. It felt like the book would never end. After Chloe/Kelly/Sophia killed Jesse it should have ended, tied up the whole baby, engagement, house buying (in that order) in an epilogue. Unfortunately, I found myself skipping several paragraphs when it was getting too boring or repetitive throughout all 6 parts. 5) One of my biggest pet peeves is unanswered questions, when authors make me finish the book going "WTH?!?" What happened to her adopted parents? After all this and no Karma comes their way - rude! Who paid off her hospital bills, and why? What happened with the wrongful death suit? Why even bring it in the story if you end it has "still waiting, will probably drop it"

I thought I had read this before till I got to the ending, now I am not sure. Derek is a Realtor who comes to a strip club and pays to have Chloe dance for him three times during the week. Chloe isn’t thrilled with this idea but she needs the money so she can finish college and get her diploma so she can become a teacher.
Chloe has had a rough life and has had an abusive past with the parents who adopted her and a boyfriend who said he loved her. So she doesn’t trust men at all. And Derek is trying very hard to gain her trust but it seems he forgot to tell her a very important fact. You have to wait and find out.
It’s a really good book, sexy, characters are interesting, and you want to see what happens so you continue to turn those pages. I am anxious to hear and read what’s next.

I really enjoyed the story line, and honestly think the most of it is good. You're drawn into the characters and the story quite well. The editing is atrocious, and her publisher should do a better job with their edits. For example, the zoo scene? Gorillas don't have tails, so that really blew my mind an editor would the the commentary about them swinging by tails slide. Just made it come across as cheap. The typos and grammar you can read over, but were very prevalent throughout the entire series. I think with a better editor and further character development, it would be smashing.

Purchased as a box set but didn't make it to the end of part 3. Too many plot holes, lack of character development. Derek was a watered down character with no real charisma. The fact he was attracted to Chloe because she looked like is dead wife...creepy and NOT at all romantic. Editing had some stand out issues, one very obvious one being Roxi flipped every few pages to Roxy and Jesse flipped multiple times to Jessie. Secondary characters were unimpressive, and while I sympathise with Chloe's backstory, she was a judgemental bitch to pretty much everyone.

When i discovered the cliffhanger i was a little disapointed and questioned how i would be able to continue reading however was pleasantly suprised by the authors skill at difforenciation between past and present emotions. That being said while i enjoyed reading i found it a little slow and was able to put it down for days at a time which is highly unusual for me. Maybe this was just a personal issue but i found it to drag a little in places. Still worth reading though.

WOAH WAIT WHAT?!
Domestic violence. She’s hiding out from the guy that nearly took her life; new identity, new city. It’s been 2yrs and she hasn’t let anyone in. Except for when that smoulderingly sexy stranger walks in to the club.

Chloe - I like her. I’d crack too. But I wouldn’t dance, not like I know how anyway HAH.
Derek - Yum. House is a yacht? Cool. But wtf is this wife business? Time to find out.
Lexi - stay behind the bar girl!

Wow! Must Keep Reading

Wow is all I can say. I started reading and I could not put down this story. This woman has been through so much in her short life so far. I really thought it was improving but the ending has left me wanting to know so much more. I will be reading book 2 next...
This is my first time reading Kylie Walker and I know most certainly I will be reading this entire series.

Characters are relatable and believable. Kylie Walker has made her characters come to life. You can just see Derek Starks chiseled physique and Chloe Greens beauty. The chemistry between them makes you fall in love with them. I highly recommend reading this. The struggles and love in this book make it worth waiting to read the second book.

This is the first story by this author I have read. It did start out with a bang, but slowed considerably in the middle, but....the end of the first part was so awesome. I will definitely read the next part to see what happens. Hopefully this will be my new favorite author.
