The Plug's Daughter

Rate this book
At first, she wanted to earn his respect…until she realized she had to demand it…
Born the day her mother died, Penelope Santos was raised by the most ruthless cartel leader in the world. A father who never saw a daughter…just a soldier carrying his blood.
Geraldo Santos is Colombia’s most feared cartel leader, but he didn’t raise Penelope to be his precious little girl, or a princess. Instead, he molded her into a weapon. One that's ruthless, calculating, and every bit as deadly as him. Some would argue even more.
Penelope’s finally given the opportunity she’s spent years the chance to prove to her father that she’s worthy of his acknowledgement, after he sends her to command his expanding operation in Nashville, Tennessee.
But America isn’t like Colombia.
The moment she arrives, every man beneath her command questions whether a woman deserves to lead them…and many would rather see her dead.
As if that isn’t enough, a young kingpin on the rise, Quan Anderson, turns their business negotiations into something far more dangerous…a forbidden attraction that could destroy both of their empires.
As cartels, Russian syndicates, Detroit power players, and enemies hiding in plain sight collide...the betrayals begin creating a tall pile of bodies.
Penelope didn't come to America just to protect her father's empire.
She came to build one of her own.
Because she refuses to spend the rest of her life being known as...The Plug's Daughter.

10/10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND. If you wanna read about a female BOSS that will make it known to not underestimate her because of her gender.. THIS THE ONE!!!! I LOVE me some penelope and everybody else is on my shit list ESPECIALLY QUAN, IESHA AND VIXEN IN THAT ORDER! My mouth was dropped to the ground so many times.. but that shower scene will forever live rent free in my head..
Kold I need book 2 IMMEDIATELY.

I went into this book LOVING Penelope’s boss energy, but as the story unfolded, she definitely made some questionable decisions that had me looking at her a little differently. 🥴

I’m really hoping we get to see some major growth from Penelope in book two. I want her to start opening her eyes to the type of people she has surrounding her and recognize who is genuinely in her corner and who isn’t. Hopefully, she starts making moves accordingly with her Desert Eagle! 🙂‍↕️

And that ending?! By far one of the biggest cliffhangers I’ve ever experienced in a book!

I’m excited and honestly a little nervous for book two because with Kold, you never really know which direction the story is going to take. I have so many questions and theories, and I’m ready to see what happens next.

Heavy is the head that wears the crown…

“Heavy is the head that wears the crown… especially when it’s inherited through blood.”

Kold definitely gave us a story full of power, betrayal, loyalty, and survival. The Plug’s Daughter isn’t your typical cartel romance…it’s about a young woman trying to prove she’s more than her father’s legacy while navigating a world where weakness gets you killed.

Penelope Santos was raised to be cold, calculated, and ruthless, and after the death of her father, she’s forced to step into a leadership role that everyone believes she’s incapable of handling. Watching her silence the doubters and take control of the empire was one of my favorite parts of the book. She wasn’t perfect, but she never backed down.

The action never let up. Between internal betrayals, shifting alliances, and an all-out war brewing, I found myself constantly wondering who would make it to the next chapter. Kold did a great job creating a world where trust is a luxury nobody can afford.

Now… let’s talk about the people who tested my patience.

I couldn’t stand Iesha or Vixen. Every time they appeared, they irritated me more than the last. They added to the chaos, but I was never rooting for either one of them.

My heart absolutely broke for little Cecilia. She deserved so much better than the life she was born into. As heartbreaking as everything unfolded, I couldn’t help but wonder if Penelope’s decisions were driven by more than strategy. Maybe, somewhere deep down, she recognized the lonely childhood Cecilia was destined for because she’d lived that same reality herself. Whether that was intentional or not, it made those moments hit even harder.

As for Quan…

I wanted to love him. I really did.

But by the end of this book, I was ready for Penelope to find somebody else. Their chemistry was undeniable, but I never felt like he matched her loyalty, ambition, or strength. Penelope deserves a partner who can truly stand beside her… not become another complication.

My only real complaint is the ending.

That cliffhanger was absolutely disrespectful. 😭 I closed the book with more questions than answers and immediately needed the next installment. Love it or hate it, that’s the sign of a story that knows how to keep its readers invested.

If you’re looking for a fast-paced read filled with cartel politics, ruthless women, betrayal, violence, forbidden love, and enough twists to keep you turning pages well into the night, The Plug’s Daughter deserves a spot on your TBR.

Now excuse me while I impatiently wait for the sequel… because Kold absolutely owes us answers. 😮‍💨📚

WHEW. This book was a HOT MESS—and I mean that in the most entertaining way possible. 😂

The Plug’s Daughter was my first Kold read, and now I completely understand why readers talk about his books the way they do. This played out like a MOVIE. Power, betrayal, family loyalty, enemies everywhere, romance, violence, and characters who are all just a little unhinged.

Penelope Santos is a FORCE. Geraldo may have wanted a son, because the way this man raised his daughter?! He didn’t raise Penelope to be protected—he raised her to be dangerous. And when she’s given the opportunity to step into a leadership role within her father’s empire, she quickly discovers that being capable isn’t enough. She’s surrounded by men who don’t believe a woman should be giving them orders.

What really worked for me was how cinematic the story felt. There was always another move being made, another person whose loyalty I questioned, and another betrayal waiting around the corner. At some point I stopped trusting EVERYBODY.

And the spice? Kold did not come to play. 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

This is a longer read, but I had a GOOD TIME with it. And THAT ENDING?! Penelope, baby…you really thought everybody was just going to let that go?! 😂 She somehow ended this book with more enemies than she started with, and I have entirely too many unanswered questions.

Woman can run it too!!!

Woman can do the same as man, just don’t get respected the same.

This was a hot mess. Listen Penelope is a force to be reckoned with. Ya girl is dangerous and not to be played with. You can tell her dad Geraldo wanted a son. The way this man raised her is crazy. Then you have Quan, he definitely is a force to be reckoned with along with his sidekick Vixen. However, he a typical man. Now at first, he was this player until he met Penelope but at the same time he had feelings for Vixan that he did know he had until after an event. With things happening after Penelope was placed to run her dad’s business, everyone is an enemy. No man wants to take orders from a woman and that thought process was their downfall.

One thing Kold is going to do is write a book. Though this was a long read, it was a good time. That ending though! Don’t know why she thought they were going to let what she did go. She has more enemies now then when she started. Look forward to book 2.

Damn

This book had me hooked from the first to the last page all the secrets that came about all of the backstabbing and betrayal taking place whoo. I see why Geraldo raised Penelope the way he did esp with her losing her mother a woman he loved dearly. He turned her into a female version of him however she is way more ruthless if you ask me. Never being out of their country of Colombia she is tasked with taking over his operation in the states and in Nashville bc that’s where he makes majority of his money in the US. The man that has been overseeing the operations, J5 has a problem with working under a woman that changes or at this what he makes Penelope believe. Upon meeting all of the men see that she’s a no nonsense type of woman. Allies are formed, enemies are circling and even a connection is made with a man who she shares a similar upbringing. What happens when they fall hard for one another and there’s a person standing in their way? What happens when Geraldo finds out and it’s not to his liking? What will Penelope do when she has to make the tough decisions? That cliffhanger was wild as hell. Can’t wait for book 2. Great job Kold 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

No You Didn't

I took every moment I had to read and finish this book. I couldn't not read where you made sense and gave me what I wanted for my man Quan. You put me thru der with Deuce and in all these pages you had to leave me hanging. Penelope shows her age and inexperience in quite a few areas. I'm not saying I don't like her, ok, I don't, I don’t want her with Quan. I'm very protective and possessive of my guys. Just call me Vixen. As usual, this is a gritty, Street read that's not a Sunday School read. No trigger warnings because it's Kold. Enjoy!

Blown Away With My 1st KOLD read. The FMC & MMC’s are all unhinged which makes the story more ruthless. Loved the way the action unfolded and appreciated that the story wasn’t dragged out. There are wayyyyy too many unanswered questions for there not to be a book 2. The spice level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️. The spicy scenes didn’t disappoint whatsoever. The betrayal throughout the book makes you scared to put the book down in fear you might miss somerthing. Moral of the story: 07/18/2026 GET YOUR COPY!!!

Pulse pounding and action packed!!

I can't wait for book 2 because that ending was bananas. I was hoping in the beginning of the book for one of the main relationships to be fixed, but you just have to be prepared for anything in a KOLD's book. It kept me engaged and wondering what would happen next

This was a solid read for me and definitely kept me engaged. It is a good street lit read with plenty of grit, tension, and chaos to keep things interesting. I was hooked from the very first page—which, honestly, is no surprise when it comes to a KOLD book.

Ohhh, Penelope! Initially, I was here for her attitude and boldness, and I was excited to see how everything would play out. I loved the no-nonsense attitude she came in with, and it immediately had me intrigued. That said, I struggled with her relationship with Quan because it felt like instant love and lacked the development I was looking for. She went from cussing out Ski while holding him at gunpoint for looking at her ass and killing another man for calling her a b**** to accepting a date from Quan? I was just as shocked as J5 was when she did. Too much happened between Penelope and Quan after what—three encounters? She and Quan went from falling in love, her losing her virginity, and her declaring him her person—all within a matter of days. I understand that she was new to dating, but I really wish their relationship had been given more time to develop naturally. I think allowing their connection to build would’ve made their relationship feel so much more genuine and believable.

Now, Quan… that man was therapy penis! He was helping Penelope lose her virginity and fall in love, healing Vixen’s old scars, and giving Ishea a taste of American D. He was doing EVERYTHING with that thang! Had Penelope, Vixen, and Ishea all feenin’.

I also enjoyed how Quan stood on business when it came to handling his affairs. However, I definitely thought camping out in front of Meechi’s house and leaving Robby and Kurt there after he left was a questionable decision. I understood that he was on a mission and determined to see it through, but damn… it ultimately cost him his family, and that was hard to read.

One thing I appreciated about Quan was his stance on sparing children and parents unless absolutely necessary. That showed a different side of him, and I respected it. Which is exactly why I was yelling at Cecila’s to stay her ass outside! If she had survived, I really wonder what that would’ve looked like, especially knowing both of her parents died at her birthday party. That situation was so sad.

Overall, this was a solid read for me. It did feel a little lengthy, particularly from the middle toward the end, but I was invested enough in the story and characters to keep turning the pages. There were definitely things I wished had been developed differently, especially Penelope and Quan’s relationship, but I still found the book entertaining and engaging.
