Lifeline is a second chance romance and the second book in the Ridgeline series. There are quite a few characters that live and work at the station. The person who runs the station and their main medic are the subjects of book one. While these could be read as standalone, I definitely think the cast of characters would be confusing if I hadn’t read book one already.
There are several conflicts in the story. One of them is a past relationship, where neither communicated their issues very well and broke up unexpectedly. When one of them is hired at the station and discovers the other one working there already, they are thrown back together with their unresolved past conflict. Another complication involves the job of the newest hire which appears to be social media managing for the station. What becomes apparent later is that he has also been asked to report on the people and especially the leader of the station as a second secret task. He does this willingly at the beginning, but as he begins to get to know everyone and become friends, it becomes an increasingly difficult task to complete as he feels like he is betraying his friends, which he is.
This was an enjoyable read with some good action descriptions also, but I did feel like some of the plot complications needed more development. Both of them in their past relationship had issues that the reader was given bits of, but not a full picture and when they talked about things, it stayed kind of vague. I think it might have benefited from a full on flashback to show them in college in their relationship with dual POVs to see a scene or two from their relationship.
Aidan‘s job as the social media person and also his secret job were also kind of off stage. There’s a lot of good opportunity for humor in social media posting, for example when social media managers now ask each person what breed of dog they would be, or they ask them a rage bait question for their reaction, Like “If you were more athletic, what job would you have?” I think showing some of those could’ve been a fun and funny way to have the reader get to know the cast of characters at the station, especially if they didn’t read book one. I also would have liked to see Aiden, considering as we was writing his reports back on the people there and maybe being able to see him consider what he wanted to write so that we could see him slowly changing his perspective. Instead, it mostly came as a larger reveal all at once. My final thought is that in the epilogue I would’ve wanted something about why he was still there. Aiden would have presumably refused to continue to report on the station members, and so his boss would likely have fired him. He would not have continued his job as social media manager, so what is he doing there in the epilogue as a job? With so much made of his writing, I wondered if his job would have also presumably included writing press releases, grants, and other professional writing for the station such as donation solicitation. That might have been more believable than someone having a full job as a social media manager for a search and rescue station. Community outreach would also make sense, with him producing posts or videos where the guys would each give us scenario (Like you break an ankle and you’re alone) and how they handled it or what not to do when in the mountains or how to survive a snake bite or other such search and rescue tidbit videos. That would bring awareness and safety awareness to the station also. That job would make a little more sense.
Ultimately, I love a second chance romance, but I need to be invested in the previous relationship in order to want the new one to prevail. Both the main characters in this book are a little lost and I’m glad Aiden finds his place with the men at search and rescue.

I really enjoyed Aidan and Mika’s story, especially finally getting a deeper look into Mika’s personality and understanding how his mind works. He was already an interesting character, but getting inside his head added so much more dimension to him. I also loved watching Aidan find his place among the Ridgeline Station crew. Their snarky, dysfunctionally functional found-family dynamic continues to be one of my favorite parts of this series.
I thought the way their history was revealed worked particularly well. Rather than giving us their entire backstory upfront, we got it in bits and pieces throughout the book. It kept me engaged because every new piece of information added context to their current relationship while leaving me wanting to know what else had happened between them. For a second-chance romance, I think that structure worked really well because we were discovering what went wrong alongside watching them figure out whether there was still something worth rebuilding.
Something else I’m really enjoying is how interwoven this series feels compared to some of Romeo’s others. We’re only two books in, but it already feels less like a collection of interconnected standalones and more like one larger story steadily building with each couple. The station, its relationships, and the things happening around everyone continue from one book to the next, which has made me increasingly invested in the entire group rather than just whichever couple is currently at the center of the story.
Probably for the first time, I was actually kind of terrified that a character was going to be killed off. I was very relieved when that didn’t happen. Then the epilogue gave us a little taste of everything being right with their world again. It also made me hopeful for a relationship that I’ve been hoping for since book one. I’m curious to see where the series is going next.
As usual, Romeo also gave me something interesting to think about when it came to the relationship itself. Aidan and Mika raised the question of what happens when two people may genuinely want the same thing and want to be on the same wavelength, but there’s a mental or emotional barrier preventing one of them from quite getting there. Wanting a relationship to work doesn’t necessarily mean you’re currently capable of giving the other person what they need, and I appreciated seeing them acknowledge and communicate about that.
In some ways, I wish the story had explored that aspect of their relationship a little more deeply because that’s a subject not a lot of people talk about. At the same time, I was glad it wasn’t simply brushed aside. The fact that Aidan and Mika actually talked about the disconnect and what it meant for them gave their relationship substance and kept the conflict from feeling like something that existed purely to create drama.
I would recommend for those who enjoy MM second chance romances with forced proximity, hidden agendas, and a snarky, disfunctionally functional found family.

The blurb sets the book up well as we get a hint of the backstory for Aiden and Mika, as well as more information about Reno and the other people at the station. Mika and Aiden have history from 10 years ago, and a lot of the book deals with the two of them processing past hurts as they relate to the present, learning to trust each other again, and rekindling the emotional and physical connection from years ago. Learning to forgive each other and themselves isn’t easy, but both consider it worth the effort to rebuild, then improve, the former relationship. Working within the story is also the relationship between Mika and Reno, one which had also been fractured but rebuilt with their time back together working at the station. Conflicts and feelings still crop up, but the relationship is on a much firmer footing than their teen years.
Weaving throughout the book are the activities those living at the Ridgeline Search and Rescue station go through on a daily basis, building the world these men and one woman live in, available to put their lives on the line when called to do so. When Mother Nature serves up a severe storm, all are in danger in one way or another from the fury of the storm, calling for heroic actions from the members as life and death are on the line. But physical dangers are not the only problem, there is also a crisis of trust over hidden actions Aiden has taken as part of his job, ones which could have consequences for all involved, and could threaten the found family and love that Aiden has found in this place, a place and group of people that have become home to him, beside Mika’s side. Will he be able to re-earn the trust and forgiveness of his found family—guess you’ll need to read to find out, if so, and how.
The characters at the station are a close-knit group of interesting individuals, each with their own quirks and faults, but a group that works well together in this relatively remote area, always looking out for each other. It is easy to become invested in the lives of theses characters as we are drawn into the story. There are some interesting interpersonal relationships going on in the background, and a new person is added at the end of each book (so far, at least), providing another possibility for a growing relationship with a current team member. I look forward to learning about the newest addition, Leon and his children (ages, how many, backstory), and what is happening with Reno and Jake, if anything. Hopefully the next book will be out soon to find out who the next couple will be to get together romantically, and to catch up with Aiden and Mika, and Colin and Xander.

I really enjoyed this book and the series so far.
It has a diverse group of amazing guys who have great comradery and are a found family, laughs, heart pounding action and tense moments with regards to their job as a search and rescue team, mother nature causing havoc and danger, devastating secrets that cause a lot of friction and anger within the group that originate from the guy who has major issues with the leader of the station (this situation remains unresolved by the end of this book), and two MC's with history who get a second chance at their HEA.
Aidan and Mika had a two year relationship when they were young men, and even though they felt love and a deep connection, there was miscommunication and misunderstandings that ended everything.
Aidan has some issues with mental health and intimacy that he has been working on with much success since Mika broke all contact with him ten years ago (his exact situation was never really revealed, it was more hinted at, and for this I dropped half a star in the rating).
As for Mika, Aidan never clearly explained his situation and it ended up leaving Mika feeling unwanted and as if he was the problem, so his solution was to leave a note and disappear from Aidan's life.
When they are suddenly reunited, all the old hurt, anger, and unwanted feelings resurface and leave them both shocked and wary. Once a tentative truce starts, it isn't long before a cautious friendship begins and all the good feelings they once had reemerge. Their journey is emotional and both Aidan and Mika are wary but can't stop their connection from deepening - or the sexy times from happening.
Just when things are going well between them and Aidan is truly becoming a member of the team, his conscience begins persistently nudging him to reveal the secret he is keeping from all of them.
The secret is discovered at the worst possible moment as mother nature decides to wreak havoc at the same time, creating an intense situation for all.
It takes time and hard work, but in the end things go back to normal at the station with regards to the bond they all have, and Aidan and Mika use that time to solidify their relationship and truly believe in their love.
Overall, this book is engaging and highly entertaining and I would definitely recommend it - just remember the series needs to be read in order.

“Lifeline” is the second book in the Ridgeline series and can be read independently of the first book. However, I would still recommend reading the series in order, because you’ll run into the characters from the first book again here, and I think that makes it easier to keep track of them.
The story is a second-chance romance. The author’s writing style is wonderful as always, and I was quickly drawn into the story of Mika and Aiden.
Aiden has a PR job in social media when he joins the Search and Rescue team and is tasked with presenting the team in a positive light online. He has another assignment as well, but no one is supposed to know about it.
Aiden was very surprised when, in his new job, he first met Reno and then Reno’s twin brother and his ex, Mika. The two had broken up unexpectedly, and there’s still a lot they haven’t worked through. But the chemistry is still there, even after all this time.
What I liked was how their shared past was revealed in small doses. That kept the suspense going, and I was definitely curious to find out what else had happened between the two of them. And as they try to come to terms with the past, the question arises as to whether a new relationship between them is even worth it. Can trust even be restored after such a terrible betrayal? Read it for yourself!

I found the book entertaining, and in addition to the two main characters, it had some great supporting characters. The suspense was definitely there, and the well-executed action scenes added to that. I liked the two main characters. As a reader, you get a good insight into Mika’s interesting personality, which gave him even more depth as a character. It was nice to see how Aiden slowly found his place at Ridgline Station.

‘Nothing in life worth having came easily and freely’ – Search and Rescue challenges
One of the several aspects of Michigan author Romeo Alexander writing career, now over a hundred books published, is his keen sense into developing MM characters with whom the reader can identify. Continuing his series Ridgeline Station (Search and Rescue) he describes his concept as ‘a steamy M/M second-chance search-and-rescue romance with found family, dangerous storms, broken trust, and a guaranteed HEA. ‘

Lifeline was an enjoyable second-chance MM romance with two likable MMCs, plenty of vulnerability, and a strong found-family element.
Both men had their own distinct personalities and past trauma, which made them easy to like individually as well as together. I enjoyed seeing how their history shaped the way they interacted in the present. Their relationship had emotional weight without feeling overly dramatic, and the hurt/comfort elements worked especially well.
One of the strongest parts of the book for me was the vulnerability and growth between the characters. There were several moments that really leaned into their emotions and allowed both men to open up in ways that made their connection feel more meaningful.
The found-family aspect was another highlight. I really enjoy the sense of community within this series, and the relationships surrounding the main couple helped give the story warmth outside of the romance itself.
The pacing stayed fairly medium throughout. While this one didn’t keep me quite as engaged as Storm, I still enjoyed it enough to finish the entire book in one day.
The spice was well placed and fit naturally into the relationship rather than feeling like it was there just for the sake of adding spice.
Overall, Lifeline gave me a satisfying ending for this couple while still making me excited to continue the series. I’m already looking forward to seeing who the next book focuses on.

August 30, 2026It’s been ten years since Aidan and Mike saw one another and in that time a lot has changed. They’ve both grown up, experienced life and been able to get a new perspective. Which isn’t to say they are necessarily better for one another, or to one another now. But, after the initial shock wears off, after Aidan discovers he gets on well with Reno, Mika's identical twin brother, the man he had only ever heard of as ‘brother’ which allows Reno to nag Mika, the two declare a truce. Now their version of a truce may not be mine or yours but it makes for great reading!
But why are they now meeting? It’s under somewhat awkward circumstances since Aidan has taken a job which requires him to effectively spy on the team at Ridgeline and whilst he feels uncomfortable before he’s even started once he sees Mika again, gets to know the rest of the team and begins to becomes a part of it, well his conscience nags at him. What happens is for you, reader, to discover but it makes for a fantastic story, some excellent tension, wonderful moments of love and laughter and also edge-of-your-seat tension as you wonder if everyone is going to be alive by the end of the book. The reminder of the power of nature is humbling and brings the book down to earth without detracting from the romance and that is the power of a good story, the mark of an excellent author. Romeo Alexander is big those. These characters could be men (and one woman) we know, those y could save ours, or someone we know’s life one day or they could be entirely fictional. This is the second book in the Ridgeline Station Search & Rescue series. This book could be a standalone read but I think that you will understand and enjoy it more if your read the series in order. This is the story of Aidan Reynard and Mikhail Anton Davis. Aidan has been hired for a PR position and he is stationed at a remote search-and-rescue outpost. Upon arrival, he is shocked to see his old love and ex. Only it isn't his old love. It is his twin brother Reno. A twin brother he didn't know about. Mika is working at the search and rescue station with his twin brother and the rest of his team. He is happy at his job. He too is shocked when Aidan shows up. Neither is happy about seeing the other. This is their story. The book is written well and is easy to read. I enjoyed watching Mika and Aidan slowly fix their broken relationship. It was nice to see how well Aidan was accepted into the team as well. Of course, there is the small problem that Aidan has been ordered to secretly report on what the team is doing to Bryce Anderson. And Bryce is not looking out for the good of the team. And as expected, secrets don't stay secrets. Aidan, Mika and the entire team will have to deal with the fallout at the same time as dealing with Mother Nature. I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next story in this series.

The one that got away.. for both of them
I loved Storm, the first book in the series, where Romeo introduced us to the team of the Ridgeline Search and Rescue Station. A cast of larger than life characters, even the quieter ones, that swept me up in their lives and their loves.
The blurb tells you all you need to know about Mika and Aiden's second chance romance. The pair of them were shocked to see each other, and old hurts ran very deep. Their relationship had been fraught with intimacy issues and lack of communication, and it ended on an unresolved note that left both of them unhappy.
Present day and thrown together in close quarters, there was no escaping each other and gradually they managed to air out those old hurts. Age and time gave them better perspective, and it was obvious that their feelings for each other hadn't really gone away.
I loved seeing all the characters again. Watching Mika and his twin, Reno, interact was great. Colin reaming out Xander was excellent, but seeing Reno and Jake on the outs just made me long for their story.
Oh, and holy shit, Romeo did it again. Ambushed me with my favourite of his characters when I least expected it. Just a brief mention but enough to make me wish (yet again) that every one of his books featured a Kameo.

How can you not love these crazy mixed up bunch of besties. Tight knit group, high pressure environment, and a ten year resurrection of a relationship burn neither of them forgot. Throw in some corporate spying, willingness to forgive but not forget and personal growth that supports it just wasn't the right time for them 10 years ago. Then of course when life just couldn't get any better, it blows up in Aidan's face and he can't deny his actions regardless of intent.
Acknowledging that whilst this is an advanced review Romeo Alexander produces such a great read that I end up jumping into the whole series and it won't be any different this time.

Good suspenseful second chance romance! In a previous life, Mika ups and leaves Aiden with a letter and absolute avoidance. Ten years later, Aiden, takes a PR job at Mika's search and rescue outpost. He gets to meet Mika's previously unknown twin, Reno. Aiden, also has a hidden agenda from his company to assess the workplace and report back. Many personal, professional and ethical challenges contribute to the excitement of the job. Aiden and Mika, both bring baggage to the post, can they put it down in time to do the job? A really enjoyable second book in this series - with a very believable second chance romance. Aidan joins the outpost group to supposedly work on their PR, but also to spy on them. He discovers that his ex Mika lives there - as does the identical twin brother Mika had never mentioned. Rebuilding trust between them is complicated and took time, as it should. There is a daring rescue, and more of the entertaining group of outpost characters.

He also didn't expect to see his ex boyfriend again after their break up 10 years ago. Lots of craziness, as usual, with the S&R members living there. This is an excellent read by this author involving second chances, action and redemption. Helps if prior stories are read first to get to know others in the team but can be read as standalone.

Thank you for the book, here is my honest opinion:
This was quite good, the setting was exceptional as it really made me want to spend more time with these characters as the station. It has some good tension as I was definitely anticipating the mess when Mika found out about the true nature of Aidan’s job. It’s maybe a little anticlimactic when it does happen but overall this was a gripping story with a realistically complicated second chance romance. I liked the characters, the ending was a bit rushed, but overall a satisfying ride.

A lot of romance series like this are interconnected standalones, but you definitely need to have read the first book to know who these characters are and what's going on here. Which is a-ok with me! I really liked getting to know the characters better, and I liked the relationship in this one even better than the first.

Aidan and Mika had a two year relationship that ended abruptly without Aidan knowing why. Ten years have passed and Aidan has been sent to the place where Mika works and their history plays a role in their journey back to one another. The love is still there but they have things to work through before they can get there but those things are what makes the story interesting and fun to read.

It was an interesting journey in the woods. Mika and Aidan’s story is a slow, emotional arc from anger back to love. Their second chance is heavily weighed down by the past, so the path forward is far from easy or straightforward.
The book also weaves in another compelling layer: the reason Aidan joined the outpost in the first place.
The supporting characters who make up the outpost crew are a great addition as well—they add depth and texture to the story.

I devoured this book in one day. I am loving the characters from this series so much. Aiden and Mika make me want to scream at them and hug them at the same time. I love a good 2nd chance story and Romeo knocked it out of the park. I cant wait to read more of this series.

Well, I was sad for everyone over the time lost for these two. But despite what happened the banter between these two when they reconnected was next level. That is not to say Mika Aiden adjusted automatically; there was a lot of emotion flying around. I think that is what really did it for me with these two. All the different feelings and reactions were completely relatable.

I am not normally a fan of second chance romance but have to say thoroughly enjoyed this one. Great characters whose journey was a pleasure to follow. Plenty of background kept the plot really captivating. Highly recommend.
