This book was written very well and the story was easy to follow. I like all of the horror and grotesque aspects of the book. I also love how the author didn’t go into too much detail on certain things and only gave us what we needed to get the storyline.
I really enjoyed this book overall, and found it to be an easy and engaging read…despite some of the parts that were very gory or touched on very dark topics. Overall I definitely would recommend this book to anyone who’s a fan of gore/horror and who loves a good twist! Really enjoyed the FMC, and the character of Mr. Gordon. Very well written, the cover is also gorgeous. Would definitely read anything else from this author any time!!
The Flame is one of the darkest and most gripping horror/thriller novels I've ever read. From the very first chapter, Heather Brown builds an atmosphere filled with suspense, which kept me hooked until the very end.
Molly is a powerful, deeply relatable character, and for readers who see pieces of themselves in her, this story can be surprisingly healing despite its darkness. Every chapter pulled me in, and just when I thought I had things figured out, the ending completely caught me off guard.
That final chapter had me practically bouncing in my seat. I never saw it coming, and it was the perfect way to end an unforgettable story.
If you love dark, suspenseful horrors with emotional depth and a jaw dropping twist, The Flame is a must read.
My Goodness!!! What an amazing read. It's been a while since I've read something that grabbed my attention. I would try to read a chapter every night, but a chapter would turn into two or three, and then it would be 2 AM, and I'd be wide awake reading. Heather sets the bar high for her genre; her novel takes you on a twisted, dark ride, which sometimes makes you feel uncomfortable, yet you want to keep reading. It's a whole experience. From feeling bad for the main character to feeling like she's a bit of a psycho to feeling happy for her, my emotions were all over the place. P.S. The first chapter is not easy to get through, but once you make it past it, everything seems to be almost like a walk in the park hahah.
“The Flame” is the kind of dark, emotional story that wraps around you and refuses to let go. Molly’s journey is unsettling, heartbreaking, hopeful, and tense all at once. I felt everything — anger, sadness, anxiety, suspicion, even moments of unexpected warmth — and that final twist nearly made me scream.
Knowing the author personally, it’s wild to think this story came purely from her imagination. It’s fiction, but the reality behind it is painfully true for too many kids in the real world. That weight stays with you.
I’m already counting down to her second book coming in 2026 — a darker thriller that I know is going to be even more intense. Heather Brown is absolutely an author to watch.
Sometimes you just wanna read a dark messed up book where basically every character is screwed up in some way. This is definitely one of those books that are dark and disturbing in the best ways.
Also, as someone who kind of prides themselves on being able to see twists coming, I can admit that I did not predict the ending reveal of this book. Which was a great surprise.
I’m really excited to see what comes next from this author!
This takes twisted to a level I've not seen much before, but it's on-point. I read this whole thing in half a day, and I gotta say, it was a half-day was well spent. A great read for those out there like me, who like a little darkness in their entertainment.
“The Flame” is truly gripping from the first chapter alone. Absolutely not for the weak of stomach and definitely a dark read. I loved that the characters were believable not in just actions but dialogue as well. I found myself unable to put it down completely immersed in the story. I never would have expected the ending! I’m excited to read more from this author.
I enjoyed this book from start to finish, it kept me engaged the whole time and I could not put it down! I wanted, needed, to know how it would end! If you like DARK books, this is definitely your kind of read! Can't wait to read more from this author!
Quick thrilling read. Nice cohesive story but definitely graphic so be prepared! The kind of ending that makes you have to sit and think a while, didnt see it coming at all. Definitely recommend!!
