Tl;dr Am I the problem for trying to sabotage my gay roommate's relationship? I have my reasons!

I [20M] moved to a different college just so I can live with my best friend since high school [21M]. But it turns out that in the two years we lived apart, he’s come out as gay, and he never told me! He also has a boyfriend, and I’m really not homophobic, but seeing them together bothers me. Other than that, we’ve reconnected like it’s magic. Living with him is amazing, and everything would have been perfect if his ass of a boyfriend wasn’t around. I don’t think that guy is good enough for someone as funny, interesting, and cool as my friend.

How do I make him dump the stupid boyfriend?

Update: So I’ve been trying to break them up, and I’m starting to realize that, possibly-maybe, I’m the one who wants to date my roommate. Help! He’s the hottest guy I’ve ever known and I keep screwing things up!
Also, is it gay to love smelling his sweaty T-shirt?

Ehh. This story was okay, but the sheer number of TSTL (too stupid to live) moments started grating on My Last Queer Nerve™ (capitalized because it's a thing).

Sadly, it's one of those books that I'll have completely forgotten in a few weeks. Well, besides the idiotic "break my leg!" part, because... wow.

So I'd rate it at around 2.5 stars and probably won't continue the series.

listen, this progressively got worse and i have this stupid rule that i can only rate books if i finish them, but a lobotomy sounds better than this, so pretend there’s one star up there, okay?

i could make a really long list about why i hate this, but that would be boring. i have two pages of notes and nobody wants to see them. (i’m too lazy to translate them into coherent thoughts)

i’ll be quick, i swear.
first of all, this is full of exclamation points. what the hell are you so excited about???
secondly, there are so many mistakes. not good.
thirdly, this would be like 40 pages long if the MCs talked. this is not a joke.
i’m tired of counting, these are the dumbest characters i’ve ever met. not funny dumb. i want to slap you dumb.
the plot is ridiculous at best, uncomfortable for the most part and annoying in general.
i was literally rooting for the other guy. logan, you deserve better and i know you will find someone that makes you happy. trust me, you dodged a bomb here.

We have Matt, who decides to transfer to the university where his best friend attends. They move in together and he’s ready to reconnect as they have drifted a little over the past two years. However, when Cass tells him that he’s gay, his world turns upside down as he starts questioning everything and his feelings towards his best friend.

Matt is such a clueless goof you can’t help but love him. He cares deeply for his friend but goodness the boy lacks some things in his head. The story is mainly told from his POV so we have a front-row seat to his crazy plans and thoughts. Matt was frustrating at times but I couldn’t help but laugh a few times at his crazy ideas. The whole leg-breaking situation will stick with me for a while, I had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard.

There isn't a lot of spicy scenes but the scenes we do get were well written. The side characters were great, especially Aaron and Levi. I would love to see their stories. The next book is about Logan, and while I wasn’t a fan of his I look forward to his story.

Overall it was honestly a fun read. I can totally see this book being adapted into a cute college romcom movie. If you enjoy clueless himbo characters, gay awakening, best friends to lovers, humour, and harebrained schemes, I recommend it.

The story was flat and uninteresting, but did live up to the title of the book I guess. There were a lot of stuffs I didn’t like in this book: gay stereotyping, internalized homophobia and a bit of a hint of fragile masculinity. Not my cuppa, so, eyeroll. The plot was disappointing. Nothing much and A LOT happened at the same time. Didn’t have the pull on me. The awakening was boring, more like a switch and was told in a simple manner without any kind of depth. I didn’t enjoy it at all. There were multiple storylines unfolding, and some of it was chaotic, but I didn’t feel emotionally connected to any of them.

I also hate the ignorant gay awakening trope. You can be confused and questioning, it’s totally fine, but don’t be such ignorant. I want my MCs to at least are aware of the lgbt community because this book sounded so stupid to me. Matt keep calling it “gay stuff” when it’s just about Cass’s preferences 🤡 Also, how he thinks he can’t be the “same friend” he was before just because Cass is gay now. that is just weird. He be dumb and ignorant as fuck.

The plot turned out so messy and a lot of unexpected(s) 🤡 happened by 60% and honestly I couldn’t stop cringing anymore. I was confused and I couldn’t comprehend what was the point of this story.

Their declaration of love wasn’t convincing at all. Despite their history, it felt like a zero to hundred. They didn’t discuss things, not even as friends, and I couldn’t see their connection. What was the point of calling them friends to lovers? Along with the disappointment of an awakening, this story is just bad. I found myself shaking my head a couple times reading this.

Supposed to be a romcom too, don’t know what happened to that 🙂 Wanted to give this a 2, but can’t find any points I liked.

A Tent for Two was wayyy better than this with the same oblivious trope.

Matt and Cass are best friends who are in love with each other. The funny part of this story is neither knows the other is head over heels for the other, thus creating one of the sweetest romances. Matt does not understand his devotion, possessiveness, and anger towards his best friend's boyfriend and what follows is a series of hilarious moments that get more and more ridiculous until he finally discovers his true feelings for his best friend.

I love this story, it's so sweet, low angst, and full of heartwarming moments. These two are great together and I cannot wait to read the next one in the series.

my biggest issue with oblivious roommate was how the majority of this story was this trainwreck after trainwreck povs posed as a romcom. i wasnt smiling. i wasnt entertained. i was just annoyed how all of these shit would haven been solved if both of our grown mcs choose to sit down and talk their issues. it wasnt boring though so a little win but still getting the choppy 2 stars rating.

Matt drove me fucking bonkers!

His reasoning and life choices left much to be desired.

Matt and Cass are besties that go way back until they went their separate ways for college. Cass stayed close to home and Matt followed his gf. When said gf ended things Matt chose to come home and our besties decides to be roomies. Beforehand, Cass came out of the closet to Matt which left Matt in a tailspin.

Basically this is the story about Matt discovering that he’s gay. This isn’t bi-awakening, this is full on realization that even though I slept with girls, I never really liked it.

Not only does he realize he’s gay but he knows he wants his best friend who has a bf that Matt doesn’t particularly like.

He made so many bad choices that it was comical. Of course it was entertaining but omg communication people!!

Once we got over the biggest hump of all time that was in actuality no bigger than a mole hill it was all pretty perfect. I mean you knew these guys were gonna be hot together.

Anyways. This was a fun read that I couldn't stop reading (and did not get much sleep at all) while I am blessed with the fever from Satan.

First off: I loved this book and finished in a single day. It breezed by and was laugh out loud ridiculous. It was truly a joy to read and I’m looking forward to everything this debut author has. I hope Devon Doe finds a lot of success as an indie MM author and I’m happy to be here on the ground.

Second, if you are familiar with the viral Reddit post about a guy wondering if he’s homophobic because he has an issue with his gay roommate’s hookups, this story will be deeply familiar. It’s clear that post was the plot bunny for this book. And as a reminder, that post ended with the conclusion: “It turns out I don’t have an issue with my roommate kissing guys if that guy is me.”

Matt is moving in with his childhood best friend after a couple years apart in college. The first thing his friend, Cassian, does is come out as gay. Matt is shocked by the news, mostly because he’s surprised that Cassian didn’t trust him enough to tell him sooner. But he does his best to understand his friend’s orientation and life. That is, until he’s introduced to Cassian’s boyfriend, Logan.

Matt doesn’t like Logan from the start and for a while, he is sure that it’s because Logan is smarmy, insufferable and not good enough for Cassian. But he eventually begins to wonder, with the help of a new friend … does Matt want Cassian for himself? Thus kicks off a series of caper-esque schemes for Matt to figure out his attraction (he’s very attracted to Cassian), his interest in him romantically (he’s deeply into Cassian) and how to break Cassian and Logan up.

It’s silly because Matt jumps to extremes with his ideas and Cassian is kind of left reeling with each one. It’s also sweet, because Matt keeps calling Cassian “my Cass” even before he realizes the depth of his feelings and attraction. It’s also an exploration of someone coming to terms with their sexuality that feels surprisingly realistic. Matt knows he has a safe space to come out in (there’s a delightful cast of queer side characters) and that Cassian won’t judge him as he is also queer, but Matt’s anxiety remains. I don’t think I’ve seen the “gay awakening” trope treated quite like this, and definitely not in a book that is at its core so light-hearted and fun-loving.

With the general vibes of the story, I might have expected the sex to be on the lower steam level but it’s pretty hot! There’s a few explicit scenes that are really well-written and steamy. I also didn’t feel impatient for them the way I might have, since they are in the back half of the book. It’s just that Matt is so fun to follow around and the plot moves so swiftly. There’s also a make out scene that is REALLY good? Not just the actual kissing but the identity crisis that Matt goes through after that is deeply rooted in how much he liked it. It’s just great.

I feel about this the way I feel about Neve Wilder’s “Show Me” and Emma Alcott’s “Sweet Thing”: low-angst, steamy and fun perfection.

To start with, I wasn't sure. Then I warmed into the author's writing style and was along for the ride as Matt came to terms with his feelings for Cassian and wrangled his jealousy over Logan.
I really liked how accepting everyone was of Matt's revelation. Both he and Cassian could have been considered the Oblivious Roommate, Cass for not seeing how Matt was changing, and Matt for not owning his feelings sooner.
There's a great cast of side characters. I really hope that Aaron has a story. Same with Levi and Kai. Logan was an interesting choice for the next book, but after this one, I'm sold.
The ending was just adorable and funny.

Not an awful book, def worth the read. But there was no closure and the main character was unlikeable, unforgivable and spoiled it all. (Like others said I was rooting for Logan too lol)

3.5 stars rounded up, but mostly because this gave me ridiculous mid-2000s rom-com vibes. Matt just found out his best friend and soon-to-be roommate (Cassian) is gay. He is floored by this revelation, and even more disturbed by the fact that Cass has a boyfriend. Matt then proceeds to have a gay awakening and ends up sabotaging Cassian's relationship, all while being utterly clueless. Matt is a straight-up dumbass, I found it hilarious. He makes the dumbest possible decision in literally every scenario. I don't think I liked him as a person, but it sure was entertaining. Cassian is a nicer guy, although I didn't t get a great feel for his personality, since the book is almost entirely from Matt's perspective we get a very rose-tinted view of him. The friends-to-lovers element happens quite late in the book, but it was hot and satisfying when it finally happened. The supporting cast was cute, and I'm glad we'll see more of certain characters. Hopefully it will be a longer series than just the two books listed so far.

I was really excited for this story. I love best friends to lovers and after reading the extra short from Cass’ POV first it made me really want to read this. It was super cute.

However, when I got the book I realized that the entire thing except for the epilogue was from Matt’s POV and he wasn’t my favourite character. His actions came across weird to me and it didn’t flow as well as it could have.

I loved Cass! He was a fantastic character and I believed all of his actions and felt he reacted properly to all the crazy things Matt had done. I also really liked all the side characters (except for Logan). Kai was a lot of fun and poor Aaron had to put up with a lot from Matt but he did it!

I found once Matt and Cass got together it was a little slower and I had to push myself to finish it. Overall, it was an ok read and a good debut. I absolutely will check out future books to see if I gel better with different characters.

This story it told from the POV of Matt, the aforementioned oblivious roommate. Matt has a huge problem with his roommate and best friend Cas’ boyfriend and thinks he’s a terrible person. He just wants Cas to himself. This eventually leads him to a journey of self discovery through subterfuge as he realizes that he’s actually in love with his best friend.

Let me just start by saying I was 200% cover art baited into reading this, and when I saw it was free on audible I thought it would be my perfect next listen!

This book is a low-stakes oh and mostly light read that is a good book when you want to read something that isn’t so serious between more serious books. Though I did find some elements of this book entertaining, my overall impression of it was just kind of frustrated and annoyed at the characters. I will say, the author did a good job of making these guys seem like young and dumb men, because they truly acted like young dumb men.🤣

For example, Matt would get really annoyed and angry at other characters for lying, when he was being even worse and lying, even harder to Cas. It was really frustrating having him as the narrator sometimes because he was genuinely so unlikable.🤣 but I also kind of think that’s part of the point of the story. I’m not even sure if we’re supposed to like Matt.

In terms of audiobook narration, I thought that the narrator did a good job, sounding like Matt and being expressive in the way I would imagine. The one annoying thing was that when he tried to do Cas’ accent, it was a little bit inconsistent and a little bit not so well done. But overall, I feel like the audiobook made this book a little More tolerable than if I had read it on paper.

this was funny af, sometimes on purpose but mostly unintentionally. it's definitely not even in my top 20 friends-to-lovers, but it's entertaining enough.

Matt is the straighty in this one, moving in with his best friend Cassius after spending two years apart at different schools. when Cass comes out to him, Matt is an absolute himbo about it. he's supportive but also confused—mostly about why he's paying closer attention to the way Cass looks and his sudden angry urges when he sees Cass interacting with his boyfriend Logan.

with mostly good intentions, Matt sets out to prove Logan is a dirty dirt, not realizing his motivations stem from jealousy. by the time he recognizes his newfound romantic urges, he's still set on Logan's downfall so he can confess his feelings to Cass guilt-free. cue some pretty ridiculous OTT schemes: 1. Matt dresses up as a troll and accosts Cass after a halloween party to kiss him and see if what he's feeling is gay boy shit and 2. stealing wedding photos from Logan to prove to Cass that Logan is married and practicing a lot more than just an open relationship with Cassius.

Logan is kind of the unsung hero in this... he got did dirty and while i was rooting for Mass™️, it sort of left a bitter taste in my mouth that they left some collateral damage in their wake. Lo deserved better. his character gets assassinated for the first half of the book and by the time his true nature is revealed, there's already a dumping and Cass is moving on with Matt who he's been in love with since high school. awwwww, but also what the fuck? i couldn't help but be salty.

the spice was nice for the two scenes of it there were, but this wasn't impressionable enough to be a hit or a miss for me. i sort of hate the miscommunication/secrecy plot device when it comes to the friends-to-lovers bit because it's just so not On Brand for people who are meant to be best friends. so this was fine, but nothing more than that

Brace yourself for the himbo-iest himbo that ever himbo-ed.

Absolutely flabbergasted that his high school bff Cassian came out as gay but hadn’t told him - Matt finds out when they move in together after two years at different colleges. He’s totally fine with it but he can’t stand Cass’s boyfriend Logan…

This book is so damn funny and Matt is such a loveable oaf. He’s constantly scheming to figure out if he’s gay and to get Logan out of the picture and you can see that his intentions are pure but they’re just the dumbest ideas. He keeps getting told these are bad ideas and to just talk to Cassian but does he? NO! 🤣 It’s frustrating in a totally hilarious and endearing way.

I loved Matt’s internal dialogue and how confused he was, I loved watching all of his schemes backfire, and I loved that Logan got some redemption - he’s not the villain Matt makes him out to be but he’s definitely not the right guy for Cass. He’ll get his HEA next and I’m totally here for it!

I mostly enjoyed this book. It could frankly be used as a tutorial on how not to do it, Matt behaves spectacularly badly at times, but I remained fairly sympathetic to him. I've read a few bi-awakenings where there's pining, but it's been a while since I saw the 'straight' guy as the pining party, so I enjoyed that. It was also nice seeing the 'straight' guy getting all tied up in knots, while Cass was not only out and proud, but confident, suave and self-assured.

I very much enjoyed the relationship and the banter between them, I love a good friends-to-lovers and the camaraderie was great. I also loved the physicality of it, the wrestling and the tickle fights were funny and sexy in equal measure. Obviously the plot relies heavily on miscommunication, and that was getting a little bit irritating by the time they finally sorted it out, I felt it could have been resolved a bit sooner.

Oh this was really a five star read for me as I could not put this book down even at work!

It was so sweet how Matt had his Bi-Awakening but the way he went about to break up Cassius and his boyfriend and the dumb stuff he got up to was a bit much!

Their banter and dynamic was cute as best friends who reunited after they went to different colleges one straight and one gay or so he thought when Matt came out to him…

Their journey to happiness was not smooth as there were some obstacles in their way but nobody said the path to love is smooth…

I laughed at the antics and shenanigans and I really felt with these characters how oblivious they were regarding each others feelings since high school!

A sweet, angsty best friends to lovers page turner that will entertain and tantalise!

This was a first time author and I look forward to the next book!

I fell hard and fell fast for these two adorable friends, their obvious comfort and love for each other, and the cute world they exist in. The secondary characters are endearing and I can’t decide who’s story I need to know next and now (I see Logan is book 2 and I’m cheering for Aaron to take center stage in book 3 please!)

Matt transfers colleges to rejoin his high school BFF Cass after Matt’s long-term girlfriend breaks up with him. What he quickly finds out is that Cass is gay, and has an open relationship with another guy, Logan. Matt’s jealousy drives him to ridiculous antics and some serious brooding, actively trying to find a way to remove Logan from their otherwise perfect relationship.

Matt and Cass love the outdoors, hiking and skinny dipping - and it’s very fitting that the several scenes in the wilderness are central to their love story!

I laughed out loud and read this book in basically one sitting, I couldn’t put it down! Loved it, and am highly anticipating more from this author!

I'm usually not a fan of single POV books but this worked and it was so hilarious, I laughed my a** of throughout the majority of this book. Matt was a mess, he was such a riot of emotion. From the moment he began to piece the puzzle together that his feelings for Cass were more than friendship the hilarity began and didn't stop until the end of the book. His character growth from token straight guy in the group to full on gay was as sweet and messy as it was funny. From his chaotic thoughts to the hair brained schemes he came up with to split Cass and Logan up...lolz!! He and Aaron we the best unlikely friends/ co-conspirators ever!! This book was a great blend of comedy, chaos and love between two best friends who realized that they were always meant to be together in more ways than one. As much as I loved Matt and Cass our mc's, I slowly fell in love with Aaron and I am praying to the book gods that he has a book coming because he's such an enigma that I need to know more about. I would most definitely recommend this book, it was hilarious!

Hmm I was deliberating how to rate this because I was loving this to bits until… I wasn’t.

It started with so many tropes I liked:
✅ childhood friends/best friends
✅ himbo
✅ jealousy/possessiveness
✅ and they were roommates
✅ oblivious idiots (or obliviots)

And even some unexpected ones:
✅ Cinderella story
✅ unexpected gay bff

But then it just became too over the top?? Like I can enjoy some idiocy as long as it’s within the realm of possibility. But then I just started to hate the mc. Like how can you be so dumb, so self centred, so stupidly blind and NOT SEE how much you’re hurting your best friend and the love of your life?? Like wth bro. It wasn’t once, not twice but three times you could’ve fixed it. But NO. and then Cassian just forgives him????? UHM NO???? He caused you so much emotional distress and when it all comes together HE RUNS AWAY AND LEAVES YOU FOR HOURS AND IS UNABLE TO BE CONTACTED. AND THEN HE WALTZES BACK AND EXPLAINS AND YOU ACCEPT IT??? Cassian et Matt (20) avec un Culomètre à 🍑

- Une romance best-friends to lovers où Matt retrouve Cassian après deux années de séparation pour être son colocataire à l'université.
- Pas mal comme scénario de base. Matt a toujours été hétéro, mais maintenant que Cassian lui a avoué son homosexualité, il ne peut pas s'empêcher de le voir d’une autre manière.
- Malheureusement, le scénario s'étire en longueur et Matt fait l'autruche assez longtemps, trop même.
- Le manque de communication est poussé à l'extrême et si c’est drôle au début, ça devient lassant très vite.

Bref, ça aurait pu être sympa, mais le résultat me laisse un peu mitigé... je vais rester sur les dark romance.

bahaha the way that we got a best friends to lovers gay romance…with a gay besties who’s had a crush on his “straight” best friend FOREVER, & yet tried to move on & never confess his feelings, ALL FROM THE “STRAIGHT” BESTIES POV?? & NEVER FROM THE GAY DOWN BAD BESTIE?? & we got only the pov of the “straight” bestie as he got SOOOO jealous that he went completely stupid?? completely & utter GENIUS!! 🙌🙌

This was a cute, quick read. Best friends to lovers is my favorite trope, so I of course love that aspect of the story. Matt’s POV was definitely funny and extremely oblivious at times, but I wish we got more of Cass’ voice throughout the book. I was excited to get his POV in the epilogue—very nice surprise!

Overall, I enjoyed the book, and will read the next in the series. Logan drove me nuts in this book, but I’m sure he will redeem himself quickly in the second book. 😏
