This book was okay. I read it because it's the sequel to Het lelietheater, and I enjoyed that one. When I started this, I was confused at first; the main character's name is changed, and we never get an explanation for that. After it became clear to me that it was still the same main character, I could follow along okay. The writing is fine, but I disliked the focus on romance here, and I felt like the main character was a bit all over the place. Maybe that was the intention, to show her character development, but it didn't work for me. I enjoyed the history bits, though. All in all, not really a book for me.

Dit boek was oké. Ik heb het gelezen omdat dit het vervolg is op Het lelietheater, en die vond ik leuk. Toen ik hierin begon was het eerst verwarrend; de naam van het hoofdpersonage is veranderd en we krijgen er helemaal geen uitleg bij. Toen me dat eenmaal duidelijk was kon ik het best prima volgen. De schrijfstijl is prima, maar ik vond de focus op de romantiek niet leuk, en ik vond dat het hoofdpersonage te veel van de hak op de tak ging. Misschien was dat de bedoeling, om haar ontwikkeling te laten zien, maar het werkte niet voor mij. Ik vond de geschiedenis delen wel leuk. Alles bij elkaar, niet echt iets voor mij.

Like the first book all the political stuff, etc, etc is great but the rest is just so boring!

Op zich een goed boek, alleen jammer dat het volgt op dat ontzettend mooie lelietheater en dan is dit toch echt wel het mindere deel. Het eerste boek kreeg ik niet weggelegd, ik wou het uit hebben. Dit deel was eerder een leuk boek om uit te lezen in de trein.
