Dog Beach Unleashed: The Seagate Summers Book Two
Remy, Micayla, Bennett, and the C Twins are back on Seagate Island for another summer of beach traditions, new and old. A new keeping Remy’s dog-sitting business going. Remy loves seeing her dog friends (and her real friends, too), but the doldrums start to sink in when it turns into the rainiest summer on record, with evacuation constantly threatening to ruin the world’s most perfect vacation spot. Tempers are short and dogs are bored. What can one 12-year-old do to create summer magic when the summer doesn’t seem to be showing up?

Q. Where did you grow up?
A. I lived in Fairfield, Connecticut until the end of fifth grade and then I moved to Roslyn Heights, New York. That's on Long Island. But I don't have a bad Lawn Guyland accent, I promise.
Q. Do you have any siblings?
A. Yes, I have two younger brothers. I always wanted a sister, but it's kind of nice being the only daughter in the family, and my brothers and I are really close.
Q. What about the rest of your family? Are you close with them too?
A. Yes, family is really important to me. I talk to my parents and grandparents every day.
Q. Are you married?
A. Yes, to a fabulous guy named Dave. We met at sleep away camp when I was sixteen.
Q. Do you have any kids?
A. Yes, my daughter Aleah Violet Rosenberg was born on May 28th, 2010 and I personally think she's the cutest baby in the world, but of course I am biased.
Q. Do you have any pets?
A. I had a miniature toy poodle named Yoffi, but he died in 2007. I miss him so much.
Q. That's sad. Do you think you will get another dog?
A. I would love to adopt one very soon!
Q. What is your favorite book?
A. Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt is my favorite book in the whole entire world. I read it in sixth grade in Ms. Mayer's class. I have read many books since then, but Tuck Everlasting is still my absolute favorite.
Q. What is your favorite movie?
A. I have two. Clueless and Avalon.
Q. What's one of the craziest things that's ever happened to you?
A. I won a radio contest at the end of eighth grade! Someone from Z100 called me up and asked me to say the "phrase that pays" and I answered correctly. I won a thousand dollars.
Q. Did you always want to be a writer?
A. No, not always. I wanted to be a hair stylist, then a concert pianist, then a rabbi. But I always loved making up stories, so I think writing is the perfect job for me.
Q. Where did you go to college?
A. I went to Binghamton University in upstate New York. I was an English major with a concentration in creative writing. It's reallllllllly cold in Binghamton. Then two years after I graduated college, I went to The New School to get my MFA in writing for children.
Q. You mentioned that you met Dave at sleep away camp. Did you really like sleep away camp?
A. YES! I loved it. I went to Eisner Camp in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. I would go back to camp forever if only I could. Sleep away camp is the best place in the world.
Q. Tell me some other things you really like.
A. Okay. Here's a short list: sleeping late, fancy hotels, reading and writing (duh!,) peanut m&ms, flip flops, sweatpants, people watching, New York City, cheese omelets, weddings, pedicures, looking at old pictures and re-reading old cards and letters.
Q. Tell me some things you really dislike.
A. Peas, mean people, rats and mice, sweating, pants and skirts with a side zipper, spicy food, uncomfortable shoes, people clipping their nails on the subway, feeling lonely or thinking about other people who might feel lonely.
Q. MY LIFE IN PINK & GREEN is about a pharmacy. Do you really like pharmacies?
A. Yes, I love them! I love the way they smell and the way the aisles are arranged. I love when the pharmacists know the customers and I love looking at all the beauty products.
Q. Do you write every day?
A. I try to, but in addition to writing I also work in the library at The Birch Wathen Lenox School in Manhattan. I love being around kids and books and talking to kids about books!

A. Just that I hope readers like my book, and I'd love to hear from all of them if they want to talk to me!

Overall, a sweet, simple book that is ultimately just a bit too bland for my taste. There's a bit of pre-teen drama, but no one really gets all that angry, and everybody's always instantly sorry for hurting anyone's feelings. The twins' parents' are getting divorced, and all the drama over this feels overdone--the narrator acts as though having divorced parents is some kind of novelty, which is hardly the case. The plot just kept wavering around way too many topics, none of which added up to much. There's just not much at stake here. Ultimately, the reader ends up wondering what Remy is so worried about all the time. Which may, in the end, be part of the novel's point--that it's not worth worrying about things you can't change--but, still. This is a PA Choice book for 2016-17, and I expect it will appeal to animal lovers. The dogs are fun: I wish the story centered more around them.

My middle-school daughter was reading a book for school (she didn't tell me which one) where she said she knew the dog was going to die. So she asked her teacher if she could read this one, which she picked up at a book fair, instead. Apparently they have something of a free read policy because the teacher agreed. In the interest of seeing what my kids are reading these days, I picked it up one evening, unaware it is actually a sequel.
Of course it is packed with pre-teen drama, but it was actually a good glimpse of summer life on an island with a hurricane approaching. Mix in a generous helping of dogs and my daughter seemed to enjoy it (none of the dogs died, just got lost). Pretty light stuff, but not a bad middle school novel. Not enough to motivate me as a parent to read the first one, but still, not bad.

This book kind of put her last book to trash because she liked a different guy and her whole progress with him in the first book became trash and I found this unrealistic and a bad message but I guess it was entertaining.

Light, easy, fast read but nothing special.

I wanted a light read and that's what this is. My low rating reflects that the book is aimed at a younger audience who would appreciate it more.
The main character, Remy was 12 years old so it surprised me that her parents left her unsupervised for long periods. Did they know she was hanging out with college-age boys doing improv? I also found it odd that people on the island chose a group of 12-year-olds to dog-sit their pets on a beach. I had a hard time believing that someone so young would feel the need to deal with adult problems like her friends' parents' separation and hurricane cleanup.

I just read the book Dog Beach Unleashed by Lisa Greenwald. This book is actually part of a two book series. In this book, Remy, Bennett, The C twins and Micayla are back for another great summer on Seagate Island. What they don't know is that a storm is likely to come this summer and could totally wreak havoc on their perfect summer. That is not the only bad thing going on right now, Remy just can't decide if she likes Calvin or Bennett. Not to mention the other drama going on between Micayla, Claire, and herself.
This book had a lot of cliffhangers that would always keep me hooked on the book. I loved the part where she would take her dog Marilyn Monroe to Mornings ( a breakfast restaurant) and they would get croissants. One part that I didn't like was when her and her friends would get in little fights and sometimes not talk for a little bit. Despite all the drama, this book was definitely a book that I will never forget,
This book would honestly fit just about any personality and character traits. This book would be especially good for girls of just about any age of 11 and above. I loved this book and I know that lots of girls out there would love it just as much as I did.

12-year-old Remy and her friends are back on Seagate Island for the summer with their successful dog camp. New issues come forth - preteen friendship/ love , divorce, depression, rainy weather and a prediction of a whopper hurricane. Remy who dislikes change has to deal with these problems and help her friends out as well. Seagate is a community and it supports its residents. The teens, especially Remy, grow a bit more mature as the summer passes.

I absolutely loved reading this book!
It is definitely a wonderful sequel to Welcome to Dog Beach! I loved it, and I liked the magic of summer, even though it wasn't the best.
The dogs really helped the story move along, and all of them looked adorable in my head! I also liked the summer romances, especially those concerning Remy.
This book was a really fun read, and I hope to read more of Lisa Greenwald's work soon.

A great summer read about a group of preteen friends spending the summer on an island while untangling complicated friendships, first love, and loss (divorce and a hurricane), all while developing their business of a day camp for dogs. Can be read independently of the first book in the series.

3.5 stars; cute follow-up to the first, but it also lacked the charm I was looking for! Review to come.
