S.D. Huston is an epic romantasy and fantasy author with a passion for broken characters who claw their way through trauma, loss, and adversity to come out changed. She builds magic laced, war torn worlds where love is as dangerous as any blade and choosing each other can be the bravest act of all. Her stories pit fierce, complicated relationships against bloodshed, ruthless power, and destinies that do not play fair. Expect sweeping worlds, emotional stakes, and love that refuses to die. There may or may not be dragons, but there is always a hard-fought love story at the heart of the chaos.
A collection of great short stories, set in the world of the "Brides of the Dragon Kings", though thousands of years before. I couldn't put these down and have really enjoyed all of them. There is opposites attracting, an arranged marriage and falling for the wrong man, a forbidden romance and silent longing, Freedom and illusions, a spirit quest and a duty, along with forced proxy, attractions, wonderful banter, hope and love. If you've read any of the other books set in this world you'll know the different wonderful types of fae (two types for each season) and their varying characteristics and powers and in these books we meet four of those fae (Sun, Moon, Air and Earth).
Book 1: Wildfire & the Sun Prince Princess Liviana likes living freely (a wildfire), but her parents need to make an agreement with the sun fae to save the kingdom, and part of that is for one of their daughters to marry the Sun fae prince.
I loved the spark she shares with the Sun guard when they first meet and seeing that grow as they get to know each other was fun to read. But Liviana doesn't want to marry the prince and be trapped in a gilded cage, having no say in her life, and keeps trying to escape.
Book 2: Starling & the Moon Blade You get a real feeling of peace and tranquillity with an oriental feel reading this. The Moon fae like to live with silence and their men stay hidden behind veils with the women ruling. But Serilda struggles to keep her silence as she works as a servant in the Moon Garden, while everyone knows she has a soft spot for the matriarch’s son, Barukhan, who is training to be her chosen Moon Blade.
I loved the connection these two have, with him having originally rescued her after a Sun fae attack on her village, his sugar cookies and her speaking her mind in the silence of the Moon Garden.
Book 3: Shadow & the Air Trickster Runa has lived by theivery, originally to look after her mum and then for the challenge. But wanting to escape that life and become someone new she goes to steal the Illusion Mask of the Air Trickster only to find it not as easy as she'd expected with the fae lord expecting her.
Vayriel is a master trickster, using illusions, riddles and misdirection. Having caught her it's his right to keep her as his slave but he give her a chance of freedom, and the prize she was after.
"Beat me at my own games," he said voice lazy and lethal. "Three trials, three chances all before dawn. Lose any of them, and you're mine." Her heart slammed once, hard. She had to win.
I loved the banter between these two as she meets his challenges of illusions and riddles, while realising that what she wants might not be what she thought and his challenges are making her see herself in a new light. It's also lovely how honest the trickster becomes with the shadow thief who wanted his most valued possession.
Book 4: Lotus & the Earth Son Luxara is following her spirit guide into the desert, only to be led to an ancient temple below the sand and the Earth Fae Prince singing to stop a seal from breaking and releasing a god of ruin. Her people had previously been enslaved by his so she is keen to continue on her quest.
Sa-Terra, the Earth Fae Prince, sees the woman as a disruption and in a place she shouldn't be. But when his singing can't stop the seal from fracturing, their goddess Terra works through her to help, making her realise perhaps her guide had brought her there for a purpose.
The corner of his mouth lifted. "I presume you won't leave until you finish your quest." The jackal watched from the shadows, yellow eyes steady. As long as her guide stayed, so would she. She sighed she could use whatever words soothed her need for freedom, but he was right. Tight-lipped, she nodded. "I'm here to help."
I loved the connection between these two as she joins his song and learns to work with him to strengthen the seal. Seeing them learn more about each other, their fears, her quest and his magic was great as they gradually grow closer. I also love the flowers in his hair that start stirring and opening as starts accepting his feelings.
The character development and dynamics in each of the stories were fun and lovely to watch. As with S.D. Huston's other books I have loved all of these and would strongly recommend them. She's created a fantastic world and I can't wait to see what she does next.

I didn't realize how long it had been since I enjoyed a nice romantasy until I read this collection of short stories. First off, the writing style and grammar were fantastic. The author's way of describing even the smallest things was beautiful and almost poetic. You could easily picture what she was describing.
The world-building for each story was very interesting and immersive. They were simple yet captivating, with the exception of the third story, which I found to be a bit more complex. I was also amazed by the diversity of the characters. I've read other story collections where all the characters felt very similar and a bit boring. This one, however, succeeded in creating unique characters that really felt different from one another.
The pacing of each story was perfect for a collection of short stories. None of them felt too rushed, and surprisingly, I didn't have the feeling of wanting more once I finished. I attribute this to the short epilogue at the end of each part; they really completed the stories. As for the spice, there is definitely some! Each story had that crescendo spice scene, but the last book, without a doubt, had the most. If I were to rate each book individually, I would say that the first part was undoubtedly my favorite, followed by the others in the same order.
I would easily recommend this collection to anyone looking for an easy and interesting read.

This Volume One collection offers the reader four of the Bound to the Elements books. They are well-written and offer a quick read to get you started on the series. Character development as well is handled nicely which will make sure we all come back for the next collection! There is a nice summary in the blurb for each book to pique your interest. Four elemental Fae, four strong human heroines, and four spicy romances for your enjoyment! You won't want to let this pass you by!
The titles included here are:
🌺 WILDFIRE & THE SUN PRINCE 🌿 STARLING & THE MOON BLADE 🌺 SHADOW & THE AIR TRICKSTER 🌿 LOTUS & THE EARTH SON
I absolutely loved the 4 couples in this volume one set. While each couple had their own obstacles to overcome they were able to come together in the end with so much passion and tenderness. I was actually surprised by how much I liked the last couple. What I appreciated most about Luxara and Sa-Terra was how they went through the tribe’s marriage ceremony to prove their love. I don’t think I could have been as brave as they were. And for reason, I admired their story the most. Definitely worth reading. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.

This book was composed of four stories - one for each of the elements - Earth, Sun, Moon, and Air - where an important elemental Fae (in 3 out of the 4 a son of the Fae leader) forms an attachment to a forbidden human female. I loved reading this book, each of the four male Fae and their human females were different, but all shared one thing - would they be able to find a legitimate way of being able to stay with the human they had become attached to - and would the human agree. I am very much looking forward to reading more books in this universe. I read an ARC of Bound to the Elements, Volume One
This rather spicy anthology follows a distinct set of characters with familiar themes but very different settings. The author brings the world alive with beautiful storytelling and drops us, the readers, into the middle of each elemental kingdom and allows us to experience the magic raw and unpredicting. I’ll be waiting with bated breath for the full lore!
