Though lacking much authentic Welsh blood, Kim Lawrence comes from English-Irish stock. She was born and brought up in North Wales. She returned there when she married, and her sons were both born on Anglesey, an island off the coast. Though not isolated, Anglesey is a little off the beaten track, but lively Dublin, which Kim loves, is only a short ferry ride away. Today they live on the farm her husband was brought up on. Welsh is the first language of many people in this area and Kim's husband and sons are all bilingual she is having a lot of fun, not to mention a few headaches, trying to learn the language! She is a keen gardener and cook and enjoys running often on the beach, as living on an island the sea is never very far away. She is usually accompanied by her Jack Russell, Sprout don't ask, it's long story!
With small children, the unsocial hours of nursing didn't look attractive so encouraged by a husband who thinks she can do anything she sets her mind to, Kim tried her hand at writing. Always a keen Mills & Boon reader, it seemed natural for her to write a romance novel. In 1995, she published her first novels and now she can't imagine doing anything else.
I finished it! I pushed through my boredom and annoyance with the heroine and got through to the end.
*curtsies*
This was a CHORE. The story opens with the heroine planning on crashing a society wedding of the man who impregnated her younger sister. (Sis had a miscarriage) She is crashing the wedding to tell off the groom because that will solve . . . something. Hero is the groom's cousin and is smitten with the illogical heroine from the get-go.
Hero keeps her from making a scene, takes her to his hotel room because her car has run out of gas and she has left her purse behind in the church. They have a one night stand, with the heroine sneaking away before the hero wakes up.
Hero eventually tracks down the pregnant heroine and demands marriage. She agrees (eventually) and pretty much has a tantrum about everything - the wedding, the sleeping arrangements, the hero's work schedule, etc. . . Why the hero puts up with her nonsense is beyond me. There is a last minute crazy OW which made me perk up a bit, but even she couldn't generate any real angst.
Not so much to say about this one. It’s the usual story that begins with a ons, a heroine who finds herself pregnant, the hero who finds out she’s pregnant, proposes and then they get married. - there’s an insta love and insta lust for him - she holds a grudge with all his family because one of his cousin got her lil sis preggar and then left her to marry a heiress, so when, after their ons, she finds out the hero is his cousin she leaves him ( stupid thing to do: it’s not his fault if he has a bastard sob of a cousin. I hope nobody holds me responsible for my many cousins’ behavior because I really don’t know where many of them lives or what they do…) - mild ow drama: he has an ex fiancé who is already ex when he meets heroine and he never loved her, so not angsty at all -I didn’t find the book interesting: however if you want a book with no angst, a besotted hero and very politically correct this is for you. Apparently he was celibate during their separation because it was love at first sight for him and he wanted to get in touch with her. But it’s not told.
This was definitely one of those witty screwball comedy love affairs where the heroine is lovable, but ditzy, and the hero is gobsmacked hit over the head in love.
The beginning starts out very strong, but then it just kind of fizzles out. There were a lot of empty gaps in the timeline and the story jumped around too much for my comfort level. I found that to be quite unsatisfying.
Cute story, great premise, but definitely could have been better written.
3 Stars ~ When Becca read in the social column that the man who had gotten her 18 year old sister, Erica, pregnant was the groom to be in the society wedding of the year, she knew what she had to do. Attending his cousin's wedding is that last place Christos wants to be. That is until he sees the fiery redhead who had just snuck into the Cathedral. He couldn't take his eyes off her; she'd bewitched him. And when it became obvious to him that she seemed nervous and didn't fit with the invited guests, he knew she wasn't there to celebrate. Becca's heart went erratic when the Greek god grabbed her arm and escorted her out of the Cathedral; she'd never seen a man this beautiful before. The first words he spoke to her were, ‘He’s really not worth it, you know.’ And when he learned that there had been a pregnancy which ended in a miscarriage, he cupped her face in his hands and asked her her name, and then promptly returned to the Cathedral, and declaring, ‘This is for Becca!’ he punched his cousin in the nose. Christos insists on taking Becca home but along the way they end up in a hotel and share an incredibly passionate night. Suffering from jet-lag, Christos doesn't wake when Becca leaves in the morning, but when he does wake up he's hurt that she's left without saying goodbye, which surprises him.
I was in the mood for something fun and lighthearted, and this romance from Ms. Lawrence, fit my mood very well. The whole Cathedral scene was delicious, as was Christos as he found himself unable to take his eyes off Becca. When he punched Alex for Becca's sake, he had me hooked. For some reason I'm a real sucker for love at first sight romances. The conflicts in this one are rather contrived, but Becca and Christos are such great characters that I easily overlooked any plot weaknesses. The romance in this story was truly lovely.
PS ~ Disregard the book blurb, it's rather misleading on the revenge theme
This story wasn't too awful, but it wasn't all that great either. So much could have been resolved within the first chapter if Becca was just up front with Christos instead of letting him wrongly assume she was the woman his cousin knocked up in the beginning. Christos fell instantly in love with Becca even though she was a difficult woman to like, and he was beyond patient with her despite her irrationality. As the story progressed, Becca became more obstinate and annoying. Why do authors write red heads as prickly and make them so unlikable because of their attitudes and actions? I don't get it. I have absolutely nothing against women who are red heads, but I'm to the point that if I see the heroine is one in a story, I pretty much avoid the story because I know I'll probably hate her character. This story definitely had that prickly argumentative red head heroine who annoyed the hell out of me and killed the story for me. I did enjoy the great aunt Theodosia though. She was a riot, but she had such a small part in this story that she wasn't enough to bring the rating up.
Naive Becca Summer is seduced by Greek tycoon Christos Carides. Knowing of the hostility between their families, Christos deliberately conceals his true identity. Their lovemaking is passionate and Becca discovers she's expecting Christos's child! Christos is furious that Becca has tried to keep her pregnancy from him, and he's determined to marry her. What sweeter way to get his revenge?
Another light hearted romance from KL. I like her style. The hero here is bowled over by the rather ditzy heroine. I love this story set up. She had him in a whirl the whole book. There were a few sections of dialog that didn't entirely make sense and a few things that people said that I wished had been explained. but I overlooked that because the story was cute, rather like a screwball comedy of the 1930s. Just fun to read.
I must lack St. Margaret’s determination because I had to skim the last 40 pages or so. Author can do much better. This one substitutes arguments and stupidity for her usual excellent dialogue. Barely above 1 star.
The hero and heroine met at the heroes cousins wedding. He was attracted to her from the start. They had a one night stand and that morning she disappeared back home. A few months have past when the hero knocks on the door and guesses she is pregnant. Then the hero demands marriage and gets it.
Not worth $3.99 maybe 99 cents or borrowed with Kindle unlimite.
I disliked Becca from start to finish, Becca and her preconceived notions drove me crazy. Another thing, I don't know why people think fraternal twins has anything to do with the father genes, Identical twins can be from either male or female side of the family, but fraternal twin can only be credited to mothers genes. Fraternal twins can only be possible if the women release 2 eggs to be fertilized, and with millions of swimmers the extra egg is bound to be fertilize.
I first read this story a few years back, loved it and have re-read it many times since. Christo is a great hero mainly for putting up with the crazy Becca, the book moves at the right pace, and with all good love stories there's the usual misunderstandings which are nicely resolved.
i'm so disappointed. the plot has a good chance to be a great story. but sadly, the more i read, the more struggles i put, the more dizzy i get. i stopped after a (too much) few pages. it's not well written. hmph.
