Omg I have no words for how good this story was. Mind blowing. The guys were everything and Maiyzn was amazing. I loved seeing Gavin open up and learn to let people in. This was intense and chaotic. Some wild twists and turns. I loved the darkness and everything this brought.

Perfect Chaos: Chasing Chaos Duet Book 2
~D.M. Midnight
Perfect Chaos by D.M. Midnight is the follow-up to Can You See Me? and the gripping conclusion to the Chasing Chaos Duet. Midnight understood the assignment when writing this series: some storms don't pass, they circle back and hit even harder the second time around. Can You See Me? asked what happens when a person doesn't feel seen. Perfect Chaos asks the far more frightening question: what happens when you are finally seen for exactly who you are?
After Trevor's death, Maizyn and Atlas flee the wreckage, carrying their trauma back to Allendale. Left behind is Gavin Blackwell, Atlas's best friend, business partner, the man responsible for cleaning up the mess, and the one who held the Willowhook office together while loneliness quietly consumed him. But Gavin can't simply walk away. Before he can return home, he needs a team he can trust, and for Gavin, reliability isn't measured by a résumé. Two hundred forty-six applications and one carefully assembled five-man crew later, he finally makes it back to Allendale.
The only problem? He no longer has a place to live.
After giving up his lease to move with Atlas, Gavin finds himself settling into a hotel. A night out at Elixirs is supposed to be a simple welcome home, until Maizyn walks through the door. The moment their eyes meet, something inside Gavin stirs, something he neither understands nor wants to acknowledge. Gavin doesn't do feelings. When Atlas discovers his best friend is living out of a hotel, he and Maizyn let Gavin move in. Suddenly, that unexpected spark threatens to ignite everything beneath the same roof. She's Atlas's girl, and best friends don't cross that line... do they?
Maizyn Lewis remains the emotional anchor of Perfect Chaos, but Midnight digs even deeper into her this time. The insecurities, PTSD, anxiety, and lingering emotional scars are explored with honesty and compassion. Her healing isn't linear. It's messy, frustrating, hopeful, and deeply authentic as she slowly discovers who she wants to become.
Atlas and Gavin equally earn their place as the male leads. Atlas opens himself in ways the first book only hinted at, revealing his fear of losing Maizyn again, his willingness to burn the world down to protect her, and his growing understanding of what love and friendship truly require. He's becoming the man he wants to be, one difficult choice at a time.
Gavin, however, is the true revelation of Perfect Chaos. A strong supporting character in Book One, he steps fully into the spotlight here. He has spent his life keeping people at arm's length to protect them, only to discover that letting someone in requires far more courage than walking away ever did. His emotional wounds mirror Maizyn's in unexpected ways, making their connection feel genuine rather than convenient. Midnight writes all three main characters with remarkable vulnerability and humanity. None of them feel like fictional romance characters. They feel like people you could meet every day: your best friend, your neighbor, or your coworker.
There is no painfully slow burn here. The pacing stays confident and engaging from beginning to end. Midnight trades drawn-out longing for steady momentum, balancing emotionally reflective moments with suspense that keeps the story moving. The relationships remain the heart of the novel, but the action never allows the narrative to lose its pulse. The result feels cinematic, immersing readers so completely that the pages begin to disappear beneath the story.
Yes, there are spicy moments, and they absolutely deliver. More importantly, every intimate scene is rooted in emotional development rather than existing solely for shock value. The chemistry serves the characters first, making every moment feel earned. Meanwhile, the tension continually tightens, keeping readers flipping pages in anticipation of its eventual release.
Perfect Chaos accomplishes exactly what it sets out to do. It's a dark romance with genuine emotional depth, bringing Maizyn's journey to a satisfying close with equal measures of heart, healing, suspense, and passion. If you haven't read Can You See Me? yet, consider it required reading before diving into Perfect Chaos. This duet is meant to be experienced together.
Perfect Chaos is slated for release on August 23, 2026. It is currently available for preorder and is expected to be available through Kindle Unlimited upon release.
As always, all opinions and reviews are of my own volition, Karen Brooks aka The Tx Lit Chic. I have not been promised any compensation, current or future, by the author or publisher for a fair and honest review of Perfect Chaos.

This book takes the energy from the previous one and cranks it up a couple notches. There is no amnesia, but there is kidnapping, running through the woods, masks, more spice, handcuffs and some hard decisions. And everything happens in less than a month...
Atlas and Maizyn move back to Allendale, from Willowbrook where the last book took place, and they leave Gavin in charge of getting the Willowbrook branch of Torres Security in order so he can come back too. Finally after a few weeks he has everything settled and comes home
Now here's a few introductions:
-Gavin, he's perfected being the life of the party. Could be with someone at the push of a button, but he's still lonely.
-Atlas, he's the strong silent brooding type. Maizyn broke that shell but it took losing her to figure out he needed her.
-Maizyn, she loves Atlas yet she's still navigating the trauma from the end of the last book and regaining her memories.
Gavin is back in town and looking forward to meeting Maizyn. Atlas picks him up from a hotel and not his old place, because the lease was up. Atlas invites him to stay with him and Maizyn. They get to the bar, Elixirs, have a drink and talk while waiting for Maizyn to show. When she shows up Gavin is drawn to her like a moth to a flame, he wants her but she's his best friend's girl.
Maizyn gets drunk at the bar, Atlas punches a guy for trying to touch her, Gavin grabs her and they leave before the cops show. She starts to have a panic attack, Atlas is driving so Gavin climbs in the back seat with her. The other ways aren't working so, bright idea, he kisses her to calm her down. Surprising him he does not get a punch or a slap, just a thank you. The next morning Maizyn and Atlas are messing around, and Gavin stops in the doorway and watches the whole scene and liked it. Then casually asks to get a cup of coffee that they are in front of. Atlas wasn't fooled knew he had been there the whole time and he wasn't jealous or angry. Atlas is intrigued by this turn of events, he and Gavin have never shared a partner before, would Maizyn be willing to try.
Gavin gets a call from Ramos for an off the books job, accepts it and heads back to the hotel to get his things and car. While there, Atlas calls and says Maizyn wants to talk about the previous night. Gavin gets home and sees her trying a BookTok trend on Atlas, says he can do better and proceeds to do just that, he's still not jealous of Gavin. They get to the events of the night before, lets just say the conversation invovles a drinking game, handcuffs, stripping, and sex on Gavin's lap but he's fully clothed (poor baby). Pretty sure Atlas pushed him a little too far with that last bit.
Over the next week Gavin keeps getting distracted by Maizyn, Maizyn worries Atlas thinks she's too much and is trying to push her towards Gavin, and Atlas is trying to figure out why Maizyn is acting strange but doesn't want to push her so does nothing. All this and we aren't even half way through the book.
They went to the bar again, had drinks and she recreated the first meeting of her and Atlas and this time included Gavin in the fun for that. When they got home Atlas blindfolded her and cuffed her on the couch, Gavin walks in again on accident this time he participates. Goes to his room broods, and tries to work on Ramos' job. The hacker was out hacked and now Gavin needs a new laptop. Atlas corners him about the night before and tells him he can tell that Maizyn owns his heart as much as she owns his. Atlas gives him a mask and says meet us at the woods. Atlas doesn't tell Maizyn to expect an extra person that night so she's surprised.
Maizyn was walking home from a bookstore and was stopped by a creepy guy and she threatened him with a fork, that she "borrowed" from the diner she had lunch at. Got home and told the boys about it, Gavin takes off. The guy she described is the guy he's been looking in to for Ramos, thinks he has to leave to keep them safe. Then we have a series of bad decisions on his part, there is a car accident, kidnapping at gun point and breaking into bad guy hide out to rescue kidnapped person.... and then to top it all off matching tattoos are gotten.
It's a great book and a fun read. Enjoy the chaos that is Perfect Chaos.

For Atlas she has always been his. For Gavin she can't be his. Right? Let the chaos continue.
Perfect Chaos by D.M. Midnight absolutely DESTROYED me. This is not a cute continuation - this is Maizyn's trauma, her healing, and her two masked monsters claiming what's theirs.
This book made me ache, sweat, cry, and obsess in one sitting.
Character Deep Dive because they DESERVE it:
MAIZYN aka Chaos / Little Tornado / Little Demon / Darling Chaos -
She is not just a FMC, she is a storm. I love that D.M. Midnight didn't magically fix her. She is still working through her trauma, still emotional, still bratty, still soft underneath all that chaos. Her arc from Chasing Chaos to here? Reclamation. She owns her scars, her rage, her need to be loved in a possessive, all-consuming way. She is the center of their gravity and she finally knows it.
ATLAS -
My unhinged, devoted, masked man. He calls her Chaos or Darling Chaos like a prayer and a threat at the same time. For Atlas, she has always been his. There was never a before or after, only her. That X-eyed mask, the primal obsession, the "touch her and die" energy - he is the original nightmare you want to keep. Emotional scars? He wears hers like his own.
GAVIN -
The reformed playboy, the boyfriend's best friend, the taboo you shouldn't touch. He calls her Little Tornado / Little Demon and I am FERAL for it. Gavin is torn - loyalty vs obsession, love vs hate, wanting to be good but needing to be possessive. Watching him finally stop pretending she can't be his? Filthy. Tender. Perfect.
Their dynamic:
Why Choose MFM / Boyfriend & His Best Friend / Forbidden Romance / Masked Men / Love-Hate / Brat/Sir/Daddy / Primal Play / Knife Play - it should be too much but it's not. It's perfectly chaotic. They don't love her despite her chaos, they love her BECAUSE of it.
If you love dark romance where the masks never really come off, where obsession is a love language, and where the FMC heals through being utterly devoured and worshipped - this duet is for you.
D.M. Midnight, I need more books about the side characters immediately. You have me in a chokehold.
Check CWs, this is dark, possessive, and deliciously unhinged.

Maizyn, aka Chaos, aka my favorite little tornado, completely stole my heart and refused to give it back. ❤️🔥
Let’s start at the beginning without getting into spoilers. We have Chaos, who is already in trouble and completely head over heels for Atlas. And the feelings? Very much mutual. Then along comes Gavin, and suddenly he finds himself falling for his best friend’s girl too. And Atlas? Doesn’t seem to mind one bit. 👀🔥
The chemistry between these three is EVERYTHING, but honestly, the banter is what really balances this whole book out. There were so many moments where I was laughing, screaming, and just sitting there thinking, these people are absolutely unhinged and I love them.
And then we add the mob/mafia, computer hacking, masked men, and a woods scene 👀🌲🔥. This book is JAM-PACKED with action, tension, chaos, and spice, and somehow it all works.
I kept flipping the pages because every time I thought I knew where things were going, something else happened. There was never a dull moment, and Maizyn had me completely invested from beginning to end.
Perfect Chaos absolutely lived up to its name because this book was pure chaos in the best possible way. Maizyn, Atlas, and Gavin officially have my heart, and I am absolutely not asking for it back. 🖤🔥
Verdict: A wild, spicy, chaotic ride with incredible chemistry, addictive banter, and characters you can't help but become obsessed with. If you like your romance with a little danger, a lot of tension, and plenty of chaos, add this one to your TBR!

Oh my god. This book was exactly what the title said. Perfect chaos. Absolutely amazing sequel. This story had me laughing and blushing and tearing up and fanning my face. I went on a true emotional rollercoaster while reading it. And I loved every second of it. I was so intrigued by the look into what shaped Maizyn into the person she is. It gave context and made connecting with a lot easier. Atlas and Gavin were both so intense, but in their own ways. Gavin was guarded and closed off. Watching him learn to let others in and figure out how to be loved was so endearing. Atlas was caring and protective. Their connection was undeniable and their chemistry was insane. The way these three grew together as characters had me beyond invested. It was incredible to see. This book felt dark and raw and real and intense. And I got truly lost in the story of these characters. I wish I could experience this duet for the first time again and again.

I Loved this book. I read the first one, and this one definitely dives into alot of Maizyn's trauma, and thoughts.
Atlas is such a hot, caring, intense man and I loved getting to know him and the relationship he had with Maizyn more in this story.
Gavin has things he definitely needed to work on, thoughts, jobs, himself, learning to let other people in and love him too.
Maizyn was a trooper in her journey of trauma, remembering things, learning how to let others help her when needed. It was alot, but it gave so much hope.
If you like why choose, masked men, spice that enhances the story and relationships an two men who would do anything for their girl, then you don't want to miss out on this!

I could not wait for this sequel to Can You See Me and ooooh buddy, was it worth the wait. Atlas and Maizyn are a power couple on their own. Then, you add in Gavin with all of his Daddy Vibes- even if it is unwilling and too natural for his own comfort- and you had the trifecta of perfection.
Atlas cannot imagine life without the two parts of his soul, his girl and his best friend.
Gavin cannot imagine life without his best friend and then as soon as he meets Chaos, he can't shake her burrowing into his brain.
Maizyn is just happy being with Atlas and bugging Gavin, because DM did incredible with that tension right out of the gate!
I have both of these on my shelf and the omnibus has an exclusive scene- so I need that too.

The perfect part two to the duet.
Not all relationships look the same. Atlas' and Maizyn’s is no exception. Atlas senses something within Maiz and himself enough to know that Maiz has more love to give than to just him alone.
He loves her so much that he's willing to do anything to make and keep her happy.
That's true love and acceptance.
But who will be the one to join them?
Chaos continues to give Atlas a run for his money, but he's learned that he would rather have the chaos than be forced to survive without it again.
Now, who will our Darling Chaos drive equal parts insane and in love?
Check out Perfect Chaos for answers.

The More Chaos, the Better 😈
I really enjoyed this conclusion to the duet! Maizyn and Atlas already had such an intense connection, but adding Gavin into the mix made it even better. I loved the MFM dynamic—the chemistry between all three of them was so good, and the spice definitely delivered! 🔥
There was still plenty of mystery, danger, and chaos mixed into the story, which kept me wanting to know what was going to happen next. I also loved watching their relationship grow and seeing how Gavin fit into their beautifully chaotic world.
And the masks…enough said. 😈

This duet just kept getting better for me, and the MFM angle was perfect. The more the merrier, I say! It made these characters even tastier, and seeing them grow together was incredible. The plot had moments that felt dark & raw; the mystery mixed in had me on dnd until I was done. Had to know!! D.M.’s writing has that perfect dark, gritty feel, and this was such a great way to wrap up their story.
PS: They wear masks for her.😈

This was such a good continuation to Maizyn's story. This book make me giggle, cry, sweat 🥵, all the feels. Chaos is definitely working through her trauma and I love her character arc. Gavin & Atlas are a wet dream. Oh to have a best friend like that 😉. I can't wait to see if we get more books about the side characters.

This book is a perfect mix of some of my favorite tropes.
The continuation of book 1 with more self discovery, choas, excitement and on the edge of your seat excitment.

(I received an ARC copy of this book, all thoughts are my own)
This addition feels like just like just getting to spend more time with characters we love plus the bonus of Gavin which I really enjoyed.
This book picks up from where can you see me finishes and introduces us to Gavin, I really like Gavin and he had natural chemistry with them both. There are no worries about slow burns here! Although feeling start fast things still take a bit of time to build up tension, teasing moments and I loved that. I was on the edge of my seat with anticipation waiting for more. But then when it does get going phew it is hot!
I liked that we explored the emotional consequences from the last book. Gavin and Atlas have their own anxieties but I just felt so much for Maizyn and her insecurities and doubts. I loved that the book explored this and continued the theme of acceptance and finding your yellow within all the characters, I defiantly found myself relating to some of these feelings especially with Maizyn.
Although the book centres a lot on the relationships there is also some more story going on which brings with it some mystery, tension, action and some bad ass moments. This book isn’t too long or rushed but still a quick/medium pace, perfect for sitting down and sinking your teeth into for a day. You enjoyed the first book you will probably enjoy this one, it is more of the same plus Gavin.

I had the pleasure of being an ARC (advanced reader, copy) reader for this book. After the roller coaster, that was book one. Book 2 it’s just as enticing and I love the dynamics between Atlas, Mazen and Gavin.
Atlas and Gavin are best friends. Gavin brings out a much different side than we’ve seen out of Mazen
Can Atlas learn to share his one true love?

After the ride in book 1, this story adds a new dimension to Maiz and Atlas. They learn to navigate their communication skills and trauma while adding a new member. I love how Gavin brings out a different side of her. Atlas and Gavin are both what she needs, and they are best friends!

This was such a good continuation to Maizyn's story. This book make me giggle, cry, sweat 🥵, all the feels. Chaos is definitely working through her trauma and I love her character arc. Gavin & Atlas are a wet dream. Oh to have a best friend like that 😉. I can't wait to see if we get more books about the side characters
