I’m a nurse. I should not be attracted to a patient.
Not even if he’s got chiseled cheeks, eyes like ice and a jaw that could crush steel. Not even if his body’s rippling, tall and powerful.
And especially not this patient – because he walked into ER with a bullet in his leg.
Ugh, why do I love rough men? My relationships all end in thunder and heartache.
At least this one’s a soldier: strong, silent and protective. I catch him looking at me with hunger sometimes. But something’s keeping him away.
Is it the truth about his injury? Or is it something deeper?
CALIX: I’m starting to forget the truth altogether.
It’s because of that nurse. The one with the tight little body, the tender touch and that fire she’s never afraid to unleash. The girl with skin so soft and shimmering that I don't even notice its color.
I’m already lying to protect my family from this gunshot. Being with this girl…I can’t live a lie that deep.
After all, my father’s the leader of the biggest white nationalist group in Atlanta.
And I’m still his right hand man.
Right?
Big White Lie features sizzling romance, steamy sexual situations, heart pounding suspense and some disturbing language. Calix is an alpha male with a heart of gold, but with a dark past and a conflicted present. Mature and open-minded audiences only. This book contains a HFN. The next book in the series, Little Dark Secret, will be out shortly.
Great follow up to an interesting series. Okay, so I was hoping to catch up with Vaughn at some time in the book to see how he's progressing, but I was really digging diving into Calix. His character is super complex and as the story goes on, you see more and more of the wounded kid, the coward, and the loyal man behind all the bravado in books 1, 2, and 3. Heads up, there are some typos that are pretty obvious and at one point Rosa goes off the rails and I guess good dick fixes the issue? But otherwise it is a good next installment to the series. With that said, there is a cliffhanger so be forewarned so you don't whine. :)
This is my first in the series. Not sure though if I'll be reading more. It was way to rushed. In 3 days, maybe 4, a man who has been stealing guns from the US Military for years to arm a white militia for a race war falls in love with a girl of Venezuelan and African decent. He doesn't believe the white race is superior, but when this war comes he wants whites to be able to make a place for themselves. He also a member of an MC that is filled with scary racists. He was raised on this garbage by his father since childhood. His turn around was aided by his time in the military serving with others, but still way to fast. The heroine comes off as desperate to me. Really young. After a few brief conversations and I mean brief she has found her forever. One bout of good sex in the den and it reaffirms this delusion. Then he does something shady that puts her job in jeopardy and the possibility of police charges. When she confronts him she is more upset about the fact he made her think they were something and he was playing her. She gets a few answers. Not even the whole truth and they kiss and make up. It was just flat, the characters, the world, the drama all flat. Maybe if I read the 1st book I'll get more, but I'm not sure if it is worth it.
This was such a pleasure to read. These brothers(Vaughn & Calix) from this series were so blunt, raw and worthy of the chance to be happy and in love with two beautiful, smart, funny, strong women who were able to help them embrace passion and acceptance.
I like the way Paige pushes the envelope when it comes to race and crossing self imposed color lines. She shows you the escalation of displaced pride in which some people places on skin tones rather then contents of character. In Calix's case, enlightenment after serving in the military during war, where he witnessed human depravity and tribulations brought him to the realization of trivialities of his hate group's beliefs....all that self taught hatred couldn't keep him away from the beautiful Rosa.....
I thoroughly enjoyed this novella. I hope there's a part 2 to this. Can't be left hanging and not know the total outcome of if they really make it, the pitfalls to their happy ending. (Hint hint) Please keep them coming
Drop Everything & Read This- What a fantastic finish for brothers, Calix & Vaughn (from the Black & White, Grey and Clear books). Which you should definitely read also! Lovable characters and story-line. You won't be disappointed with this book. I gave the same review for books 1 and 2.
Excellent character development, very realistic storyline, very strong female and male lead characters. Great descriptive writing and storytelling. I loved everything about this book!!! Can't wait to read more!!
