Shin's dad not actually being that bad, and then...boom. Ugh, that hurt. I love that Shin is and has always been so kind to those around him.

Sakamoto stopping the ship with a helicopter and chain. Yeah, Sakamoto Days logic, and that's why I love it.

That manga panel switch from younger Sakamoto comforting Shin to the present was so smooth and cinematic, literally made me tear up.

Heisuke holding it down, protecting Atari the fortune teller yasss. Prison break...at least they're getting there...until The Order shows up (yay, Osaragi and Shishiba!)

Wait. Wait. WAIT. Oki (boss of The Order) wants to fucking team up with X/ Slur...? Who's currently slicing up the JAA guys at branch 0 like sushi and managed to kill the chairman? Huh.

X does a broadcast, telling everyone about the JAA existence. And is willing to give everyone guns to do what they like, because he doesn't believe in goodness...he wants complete freedom and disorder, unless the world can prove him wrong. I lowkey see his point but...not cool. Oki is on X's side.

Lu and Aoi are okay! But Sakamoto suddenly is hit with the trauma of almost losing his family.

Akira is still with X, and wanting to do something for Rion. I feel like Shishiba is up to something, he's too cheerful and on board with it all for it to be true (i hope). Haha Osaragi slicing that woman's hair off

Total chaos around Japan, the citizens are armed and making use of it. Luckily the peeps at the JCC (Seba) can figure out how to control and stop the guns. Haha not Toramaru now obsessing over Seba instead of Taro lol.

This feels like the beginning of the end...

I hadn't been rating the volumes of this series as I caught up on MangaPlus the past few days, but I'm rating Volume 23 just to say the waterslide fight in Chapter 200 was great!

The Shin flashback kind of goes on too long at the end of another fight in the present day, and X's master plan as revealed later in the volume sounds silly in general but also redundant when a villain in Kill Blue had a similar plan. I don't remember which happened first, though. Either way, turning Japan into America by giving everyone guns is somewhat "edgy" but also... we don't kill people THAT much here. So I doubt the Japanese, who are overall kind of nicer than Americans, would (pun certainly intended) jump the gun like that.

Also, idk if I thought of this before, but Sakamoto's fighting style is kind of a lot like Jackie Chan's in his Hong Kong movies set in the "present," like Police Story. Both guys use found objects to fight, rather than rely on conventional weaponry.

I’m not sure how I feel with the queer coded character being portrayed as so sexually suggestive. There was no other personality available to pick from?

I do wonder where all Kei’s guilt will go. Right now his ability to mimic others allows him to compartmentalize but if he’s already contemplating suicide, what will be the final catalyst for him? (I’m glad he was able to at least kill Asaki.) I hope Akira will be able to assist him with a change of heart.

Shin would be another Kei if he went through with killing his mentor.

Anyway this manga is for a young audience, targeted to young boys specifically, but I still dislike the bare minimum when it comes to explaining supremacist culture. It’s not a matter of the ‘strongest’ person winning. This whole business of humans deep down are ‘violent savages’ is shallow fodder. (And the gun experiment- It’s sort of like pedaling ‘mutual abuse’ in domestic violence circumstances. Mutual abuse does not exist. There is always a clear abuser whose actions are supported by societal culture. Reacting to your abuse in self defiance with violence is not evil and cannot be considered the same as the abusive actions that led to the self defense. I hope this is eventually made more clear for the audience.)

I’m happy at least that Sakamoto remains defiant against Oki and Kei’s bloodthirst. I just hope an equal amount of time is given to counter the propaganda pedaled by X’s gang. I look forward to revisiting the metaphor of franchising Sakamoto stores nationwide as a source of retirement into civilian life for assassins that was brought up in a previous volume.

Things get pretty complicated in this volume. Shin and others (Sakamoto's gang) bust out of the prison and save Atari. Meanwhile, Uzuki reveals his big plan and pretty much legalizes crime. That way the age of assassins will come back. Somehow he thinks this is will of Rion whom he loved (I guess?). The Order joins up with X and Sakamoto's team also gets stronger with another addition (after my man Kindaka). It's going really well so far!

A little weak until we hit the last few chapters in the volume.

I'm looking forward to the most current arc atm (New JAA) but I know that means I'm almost caught up and I'll have to start waiting weekly + I'm not entirely sure how I'll track my reading since they're not published into volumes yet. They have enough chapters to serialize a Volume 28 but I imagine it takes longer than simply having enough content.

Loved the - "Work is almost over, no overtime."

So we finally get X's big plan and it reminds me a lot of Joker's plan from the Dark Knight as he like the Joker in the movie wants to prove how vile the world really is. And it is pretty effective and I was shocked about what the Order does as I want not expecting that kind of thing happening. This I hope sets up the final arc as it feels that is where the series is going next.

Kinda feels like Sakamoto knowing shin as a kid takes away from their relationship, feels very retconing, that and X’s final plan is just, X is just doing whatever the author thinks up each volume the through line is weak, like that everyone is in plan now though and it’s a cool concept for a final arc, assuming this is the final arc, it’s at least a big one

This definitely hit it's stride in the later chapters of this vol. From the previous volume I didn't think I would care about the story between Shin and his father but I ended up appreciating it. Interested to see where this goes.

Chapter 204: We considered our options and decided that The Order is best off teaming up with X.

Chapter 205: Once upon a time, there were multiple assasin organizations in Japan. The JAA emerged as the most powerful thanks to government collusion. Journalists, scholars, and activists who criticized the government, powerful opposition candidates, members of the ruling party who stirred up controversy, and bureaucrats and law enforcement officers who learned too much about state secrets... the government used the JAA to disopose of those elements. In exchange, the JAA received exorbitant subsidies and privileges. They were funded by defense money, classified public security spending, funds transferred under the guise of official development assistance, and dark money from corporations in bed with the government. Thus, the JAA evolved into a legal, government-sanctioned assassination organization. But killing begets dependency. At first, the government used the JAA for its own purposes, but before long it become dependent on the JAA and ended up bending to the JAA's will.

Chapter 205: They say that on average, people have a serious desire to kill another person three times over the course of their lives. I'll provide every citizen of this country with a gun and three bullets. Use them however you wish. There will be no criminal penalties.

Chapter 205: Article 23 of the JAA bylaws says the killing of bystanders is prohibited. In the new JAA regime, that's a thing of the past. Do you understand what that means?
