This #debut novel is a suspenseful story about a disappearance that refuses to stay in the past.
Ten-year-old Hattie never made it home from school in 2003, and her family and the small town of Hartford are struggling with so many unanswered questions.
In 2013, new evidence connects Hattie’s case to other missing children, forcing the investigation to reopen - and the town and Hattie's family are forced to open old wounds.
The story is told in alternating voices of Hattie in 2003 and Anna (her sister) in 2013. The novel explores grief, memory, guilt, and the difficulty of moving forward when the past never really goes away.
The different perspectives of Anna, Hattie, and a police officer add depth to the story.
In small towns, people keep secrets and suspicions ramp up, creating tension and confluct. The writing feels claustrophobic and isolating at times, with people mistrusting their friends and neighbors.
Overall, this book is a twisty read if you like psychological thrillers, cold cases, family secrets, and townspeople slowly coming apart.

This was so well done! The emotional turmoil is palpable throughout the book, and for me it continued to increase in presence throughout the entire read.
I’m impressed with Woolf’s writing. The book is short, written in dual perspective between Anna and her old boyfriend, Jacob making it an easy one day read if you have a leisurely day off. Our main character, Anna, whose little sister Hattie disappeared 10 years ago, in 2003. Anna’s parents are still distraught in 2013 and have resorted to hiring a psychic, who Anna believes is a waste of money and a scam. The revelations he has though, are concerning.
Anna continues to reconnect with people from her past throughout the story, and compounding upon the unwanted stress from these interactions, she continues to be plagued by the local townspeople who have unending theories regarding what happened to her sister. You can feel her pain, and to be straightforward, she has become someone that you may not like as a reader. This doesn’t take away from her role in the story. This was a five star read and I will look for more from Woolf!

This book had me under from the page first and I wasn’t able to put it down till the end of the book. The twist was not something I had not already guessed but the book was really good and kept me hooked throughout.
This is the story of Anna whose younger sister went missing ten years ago while coming back home from school and was never found. All these years, she has lived in the shadow of her younger sister and the grief of her family. She now teacher in the high school and students have found out about her sister and want to know everything.
Her mother has now appointed a psychic to find out what happened but Anna knows he is only there to take as much money as possible from her parents but she can’t hurt her mother more. She gets to know that there were other victims of kidnapping around her sister’s disappearance and the case is re-opened with new evidence. She just wants this to be over and wants her parents back.
As the case is re-opened, the procedure is making her more anxious as she hears things about her ex-boyfriend she never knew about. He is now in police but is not of any use to her as he can’t investigate as he was related to the victim. What will happen when new things will come out and new suspects will emerge?

I absolutely loved this story.
Ten years after Anna’s little sister Hattie disappeared, new evidence brings the case right back to the surface, and I was completely invested.
The relationship between the sisters really got me. You could feel how deeply Anna loved Hattie and how much her disappearance had shaped her life. I also really felt Anna’s worry and stress over her parents, and almost the pity she had for them because they’d never truly been able to move forward.
But THAT TWIST. 😳
My mouth was literally hanging open. I had to sit there for a second and process what I had just read because WHAT?! Obviously, I’m saying nothing more.
This was my first ARC, which made the experience even more special, and I’m so happy it was this book. G.K. Woolf gave me the mystery and suspense I wanted while making me genuinely care about the characters.
And after that ending, I have one request…
PLEASE GIVE US A SEQUEL. 🙏🏻 I am not ready to be done here.

Ten years ago, in a small town, Hattie Monetti went missing and the case has not been solved, causing her family to become shells of themselves. Suddenly there is new interest in the case, a psychic has befriended the family offering hope and some of what was thought during the original investigation is revisited. The story is told from Hattie’s perspective through diary entries, Anna’s, her older sister, and Jacob’s, Anna’s high school boyfriend now police officer. There are several peripheral characters who keep the reader questioning everything. The raw emotion is palpable from the descriptions within the book.
I thought I had it figured out and had toyed with the final twist but had changed my mind repeatedly just to be blown away by the ending. I really enjoyed the writing style of this debut novel. The intertwining of characters and storylines, along with the depth of characters has me hoping G.K. Woolf doesn’t stop writing.

I was very fortunate to have received an early free copy from the author of this amazing debut novel. I was gripped by the story from the first few pages. It’s 10 years after 10 year old Hattie disappeared without trace. Her parents have never recovered from the loss and her sister Anna, now a teacher, is concerned by her mother’s hiring of a nationally renowned psychic to trace her little sister. He begins to turn up disturbing information but Anna is convinced the psychic is a charlatan and starts her own investigation, reconnecting with old friends and lovers to find the truth. The story unfolds through the eyes of Hattie, Anna and others from just before her disappearance, I loved the way G K Woolfe brought the characters to life, there
are numerous suspects, misdirections and red herrings throughout the book. This was such an enjoyable read and highly recommended. I hope there will be another book appearing very soon. All the opinions are my own.

A fantastic debut novel. The writing style reminded me of Freida McFadden (but G K Woolf has greater character depth in my opinion).
I liked the way the story was told from the viewpoints of the main protagonist, then one of the other (main) characters and also some historical entries from Hattie.
This story had me guessing right until the end. So many possible suspects and then what a twist! So many secrets! The local police missed so many clues and opportunities during their original search for Hattie.
Each character brought their own baggage and history with them which added to the depth of the story.
I really enjoyed the section at the end. Reading that the author has written throughout her life, and hidden her stories in lots of places so people couldn't find them made me smile. Oh, and the hypothetical ways she imagined getting rid of her older brothers! Some lovely insights into the authors mind.

This was an insanely quick read, and I love a thriller around 300 pages because it’s so easy to fly through in one sitting. The chapter format kept me speeding through this one, and I didn’t want to put it down until I knew what happened to Hattie.
And good luck figuring out who did it. I had my suspicions, but I was not prepared for where this ended up. The truth was both shocking and devastating.
I’m so glad I read this. Such a great, quick thriller!

Wow! I truly enjoyed this story. I give it a 5 ⭐️!! It kept me on the edge of my seat wanting to uncover more right along with the characters. The different POVs we get serve as proof of clues, discounting alibis, and getting know the characters themselves. The story has great pacing and was easy to follow.
Wolf takes us on a suspenseful journey with twists, red flags, and things I didn’t see coming. My jaw dropped. I’m looking forward to what is to come!

This is Woolf debut and it’s remarkable. It’s the kind of thriller that you can’t put down. The book as dual pov and when you think you know the next thing, you definitely don’t.
The dubbel pov is Anna who is the main character and it’s here sister that has been missing for 10 years. The other pov is Anna’s boyfriends from 10 years ago.
The books take place in a small town, and let’s just say everyone talks. This books is the perfect mix of exciting, scary and emotional.

This was an ARC copy that I started this morning, and expected to add this to the first of my September reads but it was that good I have binged it completely.
Today is also publication day for this book and I am so grateful it was sent to me to read and review and happy I finished it in one day because it deserves to be reviewed on the same day as publication for its brilliance.

Easy 5* for me. Thanks to GK Woolf for this free ARC.
What a debut novel! I could not put this down. I thought that I had guessed the ending and I was so wrong.
Loved the main characters in it as they were very descriptive and I felt as though I knew them well.
Great twist at the end and I would thoroughly recommend reading this when published.

There are so many twists and turns in this book it kept me turning the pages until very late at night. A one sitting read. The author keeps you guessing just which character the killer is until the very end, very well done.It has a great ending.. a cliffhanger. I need book 2, this is a must read for thriller lovers!

I liked the concept, and as a mother my heart ached for the parents going through such anguish. I did get the twist pretty early on, though, I feel like it could've been a bit tighter. And I wish there had been more drama with the sub-plot, so I was a little disappointed with how it fizzled out.
It was a solid book, just a bit of repetition and make the plot and sub-lot tie in together.

It's been a while since I've read a suspense story and that was amazing! I found it a slow buildup but once the story started to thicken I didnt want to put it down. I just finished the book and its nearly 1am and my heart was racing at some parts there. The plot twists had me in full suspense. Excellent read and I wish I could know what happened after the ending....
