If you want to read only an MM romance then walk on by because even though each book was supposed to feature a different couple, there were scenes involving other couples (MM and MF). But if you don’t mind (i wished they were all MM but i do understand as the book progressed why the last couple was an MF pairing) then please i highly recommend you to dive in.

The world building was so good. The characters were well defined. I love the banter especially between the wolf pack. Part gothic part supernatural, i forgot to sleep because i was highly invested in the story. Love love Token and his sunshine. Love Kell, Elias and Havoc and by the end of this book i have grown fond of Aura…like how? 😂

My only regret is i wished i waited until this series were completed because now i am dangling from the edge of the cliff lamenting the fact that i have to wait for book 2 😭.

Ms. Kensington probably had an easier time writing this book than I did writing this review lol
I want to do this book justice.
Think (adult) Harry Potter meets Twilight (but not cheesy) meets dark academia/dark romance/erotica.
The erotica isn't even the central theme, although the spice is definitely spicy.
This is a slow burn between MM and MF characters, which slow burns normally drive me crazy but the characters and the story are so engaging I barely noticed. The spicy tension is definitely there though, and the wait was worth it ☺️
I absolutely fell in love with the characters. I laughed and I cried.
Immediately started the ARC of the next book (it's just as amazing), and will happily read everything else this talented author writes and has written.

This is the second book in Chain's and Token's story.

The world is expanding and we are introduced to some of the families and estates. We are shown different family dynamics and new characters that add context to our main characters personalities, the roles they have played their whole lives and what is expected from them. We are shown more of this world's politics too, how rigid is everything and what would be the consequences if things change or they step out of the line.

The stakes are really high, they have to deal with several personal dangers as well as a general society that will never allow any of them to be free to live their lives as they would want to, not the Oathwolves and not the Warlocks. And this creates an atmosphere of despair at times, but the hope and determination for a change is always there, and nothing will stop the characters from try to change what they know is a tremendously un unfair world.

This book is beautifully written. The descriptions make you imagine all the scenarios as if you were there. The characters's inner thoughts make you connect with them and feel all the pressure, the fears, the love and the real meaning of a found family.

I love Chain and Token, they are fierce, sweet, dangerous and smart. And Kell, Elias, Aura and Havoc are the friends you would like by your side, even August!

There are several surprising plot twists in this book, and when you think "I saw that coming" BAM, no you didn't, there is a twist in the plot twist that changes everything. It makes it a hectic reading that never lets you forget that the risks are real and the dangers are breathing on our main characters nape constantly. It makes you feel there is no solution, no chance for them to find true happiness or freedom, but our characters are strong, intelligent and they will not hesitate to fight whatever the obstacles their society puts in front of them. Even when you think "There is no way they survive/have peace/will ever be happy or free", you at the same time trust they will win in the end, they have skills, resources and the greatest motivation, their love for each other, their partners and their friends. And a desire to change a world that is inherently unfair and abusive.

The dynamics between the main characters (Chain, Token, Aura, Elias, Kell and Havoc) are beautiful to read, they form a unit ready to go to war to protect each other as humans, regardless of status, class or breed.

The bonds between the couples are beautiful and deep, and the intimacy scenes are great.

The only thing I wish we could see more in depth is how the magic works, but it's not something that bothered me or made me frustrated with the plot, I simply would like to know more about it.

I recommend this book a 100%, I have enjoyed it very much and I'm already excited for the next book. There are a lot of important things to be resolved, both personally and globally and I can't wait to see how it all unfolds.

This book is sooo good!! I love the dark academia element and the creative dynamic between the characters! I’ve never read a book where warlocks and witches use werewolves as personal guards. I love it! The multiple POV is a great touch and the slow burn and angst between all the characters is perfect and agonizing. I love every character in this book. You become emotionally vested in them all. I was completely immersed into this world and didn’t want to leave! It’s Amazing! I highly recommend this book and all the books Violet Kensington has written! They are all phenomenal! 😍
I can’t wait to finish book two of the series!

There will be spoilers

This could have been an easy 5-star read for me. I picked it up after someone recommended it.

First off, I never give bad reviews, but this whole thing kept me up last night. This should not be labeled as a romance, in my opinion, but as a fantasy book with a subplot of romance. And it has nothing to do with the slow burn.

The plot is great, and it kept me on my toes the whole time. This book made me angry. It made me burn to get justice for the Oathwolves. The action scenes were so good.

Now, what I couldn’t get past was that the MMC climbed into bed with a woman twice, and it was on-page. It was triggering because I only read MM, and I felt betrayed.

Yes, this does happen in some MM books, but this was different. It was way into the story and described in a way that really threw me off. And I really love spice in my books, but not like that.

And lastly, the book could have been shorter if some of the descriptions had been cut, like: “my silver eyes cut,” “my pale hand ran through,” “my muscled thighs moved,” etc. It felt unnecessary, and sometimes it took me out of the story with how often it was repeated.

And as a footnote: after going through all of this, I found out the author used AI to create the book cover, so now I’m extremely disappointed and sad that I wasted my time on this.

I so wanted to read Book 2.

I hate writing reviews like this. Authors work really hard on their craft, but I’m so conflicted at the moment.
