An incredibly thrilling story. Intrigue and mystery wrapped up in a gorgeously written, scorchingly hot romance where secrets abound and trust is a rare commodity.

Gifted with a genius mind, cursed with emotionless parents and scarred by a childhood trauma, Devin Hill has been doing what is expected of her and leading an unfulfilling, colorless existence. Taking an impromptu vacation to Maroma Beach with her roommate Anna for a few relaxing days and perhaps gain some clarity and perspective, she literally bumps into a sexy mysterious man who after breaking into her hotel room, takes her monochrome blinders off and shows her how to live. He shows her that there’s so much more to life than meets the eye. Can Devin trust her body and heart to a stranger?
“Do you trust me?” His measured words held no tone. “No.” The word flew out in knee-jerk reaction. But he was a relative stranger, after all. And trust had never come easy for me. “Good.”

Alec Marquez is used to being alone, and has been for a very long time. It’s imperative when his job description in a secret world organization mandates he blend in or be a ghost. He’s never had a relationship in his life and isn’t afforded to have one. But when he comes across with the incredibly smart, very perceptive and amazingly beautiful Devin who coaxes her way into his investigation, he falls prey no just to her intelligence and beauty, but to the caring heart she zealously protects. Can she fit into his world of spies?

One of the things I love the most about Kat and Stone’s writing is its poetic narrative, rich with brilliant imagery and a cadence that quickly entrances. The Espionage Effect is no exception with its addictive flow and sultry sexiness. But even with the beautiful depictions and all the scorching moments, they don’t distract us from the underlining plotline that moves the story forward which is that of a girl with a hidden craving for vengeance, an incredible potential but no clear sense of self or what to do with her life, and the man that gave her hope.
He’d both disrupted my mind-numbing life in the most chaotic of ways and set everything to order again—but different…better.

I really liked Devin’s quick mind and sharp tongue, starting a witty and flirty banter between her and Alec, especially how she swiftly picks up that he's way more than an attractive man with a Spanish accent and a domineering attitude.
“Three ‘random’ occurrences where we cross paths in one day defies the theory of Occam’s Razor.”
The corners of his lips twitched. “Do you kiss with that extraordinary mouth?”

It was great how she doesn’t back down from his intimidating presence, which translates into them both showing their true selves to each other and generating instant blazing sparks and a connection that runs deeper than either of them expected.
“My gaze locked on to his, and the sizzling connection affected me on a visceral level, like he didn’t just see me—he saw right through me, down to every last dark secret and untapped desire. And instead of his blatant stare into the very heart of me feeling threatening, I found the action soothing.”

While their hunger for each other grew with each moment, I loved how their bond did as well. For each physical touch they exchanged, they also peeled away a layer of themselves, some sweet and tender, others heartbreakingly poignant, all of them leaving an indelible mark on each other.
“One lost spinning soul finally stabilized by another. Drawn in by its undeniable gravity. Not wanting…not even trying…to escape.”

I loved Alec’s take-charge attitude, his flirty charm but mostly his sincerity. He was absolutely magnetic which fueled their easy going banter. She pushes his boundaries while he challenges the way she perceives life and herself. They both give and take equally in the most alluring ways that set the pages ablaze.
“That sexy mouth of yours keeps spouting intellectual factoids. I keep wondering what it’ll take to render you speechless.”
My mind froze. “Speechless?”
A full smile now played at his lips. “Oh, yes. I’m taking it as a personal challenge to blow your mind to the point you cannot describe an event that happens between us with mere words.”

And let’s not forget the secrecy that shrouds Devin’s past and the heinous conspiracy Alec is trying to decipher. I never knew exactly what to expect and loved the twists their story took.

As with all other books by Kat & Stone, I loved their story telling so much I had highlights in every other page I wish I could share. Told from Devin’s perspective, I enjoyed how the descriptions from her mind’s eye clearly exposed her story. I could envision everything almost as if a movie were unfolding in front of me from the very beginning and throughout with each revelation. From the most simple actions, to their sensual encounters, to the very exciting action sequences.
“Focus sharpening, zooming in on every minuscule detail in an instant, my mind’s eye saw the result before it happened. Without thought, I lunged forward, extending my arm… The odd superhero-like gift had become second nature.”

I could keep on sharing everything I liked, but that would most likely mean I would either spoil you or flat out copy the entire book. So I’ll wrap up almost like I started. This is an incredibly steamy romance, laced with excitement and emotion and I hope it's just the beginning of Alec and Devin in the “Spy Games” series.

As promising as the set up for the story was, this just wasn't my cuppa. Too much purple prose that just went over my head and completely took me out of the story. I'll happily give these authors a shot with their future releases but this one just wasn't for me.

I decided to throw in the towel. Some of the things that happened just didn't make much sense to me - the heroine's reactions, the hero's behaviors and the plot development.

Why she doesn't question him when he break into her room?

How can he easily reveal his super secret spy identity to her?

And she wanting to be a part of the super secret spy thing is just to tad far-fetched.

3.5 - 4 Adventurous Stars

The Espionage Effect is a standalone (but there will more than likely be a series) and it’s my first book by Kat and Stone Bastion. I will admit, I was pulled by the cover and mysterious blurb. I’m a mega fan of suspenseful romances and the more mysterious it is, even better.

This reminds me a bit of Elle Kennedy’s Killer Instinct series. A lot goes on, there’s some romance and plenty of action.

Devin is on vacation with her friend Anna. Devin promised Anna she would find a guy and a have a fling with. Who doesn’t want to do that on vacation? She runs into Alec, the sexy Latin. Devin is not your typical Heroine. She’s gifted and a bit quirky. I’m okay with quirk, kind of reminds me of the leading lady in The Will by Kristen Ashley. Dev says random things and it doesn’t make sense all the time, but I get it, it’s her personality to say random facts and understand complicated things.

Alec is the random guy that runs into Dev’s life. Alec hides out in Dev’s hotel room after getting grazed by a bullet. Dev helps treats his wounds and then proceeds to have dirty times with Alec. It’s kind of funny, but the insta-lust was hard and fast. Don’t get me wrong, if a sexy guy comes into my hotel room, sure, I’ll take off my panties and let him have his way with me too. It was kind of fast, but I’m not opposed to the steam.

Alec and Dev have an interesting relationship. They go from strangers to two-people-now –interested-in-each-other’s-lives kind of relationship. Alec is scouting a house to obtain information, he researching for his next mission. He’s kind of like CIA, but from another secret organization. He tells Dev all of this, like she’s part of the team. I love it when the Hero and Heroine are upfront with each other, but even though Dev doesn’t trust Alec completely, it seems that Alec does.

Dev does have her own demons. Something happened in the past and it has left her really torn up. She gets paranoid easily and difficult situations make her anxious. It just adds another layer to the story. Both Dev and Alec are intelligent and it’s not the usually flowery romance verbiage I’m use to reading. I eventually got use to it.

“But it’s more with me. I’m trained to read others down to the slightest nuance. It’s a gift I have and excel at in greater degree than anyone they’ve ever tested. I’m both a human life detector and a fairly accurate predictor of someone’s future actions – with varying percentages of certainty – based on their past actions”

The book kind of borderlines fantasy because there are certain situations where it’s unrealistic, like super injections and deadly virus that could end all humanity. I’m a fan of fantasy and it kind of added a little something to the story. But I should clarify that this is not a fantasy book, it just reminds of it.

“The urge hadn’t been there until I’d met this mysterious man who’d stumbled into my world. But now I became acutely aware that what we did, who he was, was something I’d yearned to do… to be… for a very time.”

Alec has a past too and Dev emphasizes with him. They continue to connect and Dev wants to help Alec on his next mission, even though she isn’t trained. Usually these action pack books are low on the romance, but this one doesn’t disappoint. Alec and Dev have crazy sexual chemistry and obviously want each other. I liked that Alec kind of pushes Dev. He makes her relax and enjoy herself. He is very dominate and controls every situation.

“Whatever his mission had originally been, I’d become a part of it. Pink to his Spud-Watson to his Sherlock”

Overall, it’s a lengthy novel and at times it’s a bit descriptive, but that is a personal preference. Also, I felt like the book was above me and let’s just say I’m not good with technical words. I like the action / suspenseful part of the read and the parts where Dev and Alec become closer together. The ending kicks up a notch and things move quickly. I kept on asking myself what was going to happen next.

If you like detailed steamy action pack, mystery/suspense novels, then his one is for you.

A Perfect Summer Read!

This was not my first experience with husband and wife author team Kat & Stone Bastion, but it was my first time seeing what the talented pair can do with a suspenseful stand-alone.

The Result: Glorious!

This novel had my rapt attention from start to finish. The characters were wonderfully intriguing, the pacing was perfect, and the suspense kept me turning pages like crazy.

Quite frankly, The Espionage Effect might be the best thing I've read so far this summer.

The beach resort setting certainly lends itself to calling this the perfect summer read, but the combination of romance, suspense, adventure, and mystery cinches the deal. Add to all of that a kickass female lead and this was nothing short of a FIVE STAR read for me.

Devin 'Dev' Hill
They all saw what they wanted to see: the next Einstein or Gates - their finely honed world destroyer, or potential economic rainmaker. All my life, I'd portrayed the two-dimensional genius I wanted them to see.
Devin Hill is simply fascinating. For all her booksmarts, she's completely grounded in reality. She isn't socially awkward or unfeeling. She has passions and a haunted past which guides her.

Devin's character really made this book for me. Her first person POV drives the narrative and it was an absolute joy to join her on this adventure.

Devin Hill is a genius. Literally. Her superhuman IQ and eidetic memory have meant a lifetime of learning and expanding her abilities. She's currently studying nuclear physics, but she has expert knowledge in the fields of Biology and Astrophysics as well.

She's been groomed for greatness, and the pressure is stifling. The spur of the moment decision to take Christmas vacation at a beach resort with her best friend leads her on an adventure she couldn't have imagined.

Alejandro 'Alec' Marquez
In the murky starless sky of my existence, he'd become an unexpected beacon, drawing me in without even so much as the promise of light.
Hello 'Tall Dark and brooding!' Alec was a beautifully written enigmatic character - Much like Devin, the reader is swept away in the mystery which surrounds this spy and we're thankful for every tidbit of information fed to us.

Alec literally crashes into Devin's life and her world is changed forever. Alec is a spy working for a secret international organization, and his mission is exactly the kind of adventure Devin wants to embark on.

He tries his best to keep Devin at arms length, but there's no denying the sexual chemistry swirling between them. Add to that:
- Playing vacation lovers provides the perfect cover while Alec is on his mission.
- Devin's skills of deduction and eidetic memory are invaluable investigative tools.
- Devin has her first taste of freedom and adventure while helping Alec on his mission, and she's not going to give up that feeling easily. She was born to be a spy.

"You can't get more cloak-and-dagger than black ops. There are not degrees of obscurity."

"Ahhh, but there are, Devin." His voice softened, deepening into a rich silk that caressed, mesmerized. "When no one knows we exist but hose who work for us. When membership means becoming a shadow, permanently. When we fly under the radar but out in plain sight for all to overlook. We're the whisper of air that chases what goes bump in the night."
Devin is pulled into this dark world of espionage with Alec as her guide. The bond they form is bolstered by shared thirst for justice.

It's difficult to go much further without being spoiler-y, and you should really enjoy all the twists and turns in this story as the author intended.

Read this book.
You will not regret it.

The blossoming romance between Devin and Alec perfectly balances the action and suspense. This story was endlessly entertaining, and I can't recommend it enough!

3.5 "Lessons in Spying and Love" Stars. Deception, betrayal, revenge and vengeance abound in The Espionage Effect. If you love quirky, genius heroines with twisted, save the world type danger filled plots, then the Espionage Effect may just be the next book you are looking for. I will say though, that while the plot of this romantic suspense took a while to set-up, some patience may be well worth your effort, as the story does kick into high gear, and contains some rather steamy adventures to boot, particularly towards the later parts of the book.

This is one of those stories where the less you know going in, the better, as a large part of the plot revolves around the mystery surrounding who the characters truly are and what truly motivates them. Therefore my description, like the blurb, will be necessarily short and vague.

Devin Hill, a nineteen year-old genius, experienced a devastating family tragedy that has shaped who she is today. A natural at just about anything she tries, given her extreme intelligence, she could be just about anything. The one thing she knows she no longer wants to be, however, is what she believes is the direction her parents have been steering her in.

Needing a change and opportunity to let loose, Devin goes on a vacation with her best friend, Anna, who encourages her to indulge in a wild affair. Their she stumbles into Alec Marquez who opens up a whole new world to her. A world of passion and spies, secret organizations and world changing missions. But just what is the true reality and does she really fit into this world, and even if she does, can she ever hope to officially become part of it?

I've always been intrigued by shows like Alias and 24. One look at this blurb, and I just knew I had to read it. I have to admit, that it did take a while for me to settle into the story. At first blush the plot seemed too simplistic and unrealistic. I urge you get past the beginning, however, as nothing is what it first appears to be. Once this story did start to unfold, I was intrigued by the depth and twists and turns that the action, suspense element of this novel took me through; and the undeniable chemistry that maintains a sense of erotic passion throughout this action-filled romance.

The Espionage Effect by Kat and Stone Bastion is a perfect summer read to get lost in. It had mystery, suspense, intrigue, adventure, and romance all weaved into the story. With a perfect blend of raw and intensity, the authors were able to showcase a connection that was brewing between Devin Hill and Alec Marquez.

#TheEpsionageEffect

Though Devin may be a genius with an exceptional high IQ, she lives a colorless world of just existing. Her past haunts her and so when she takes a vacation, she never expected her monochromatic world be filled with color and excitement when she meets Alec. Alec is used to being alone since he is a spy. So what happens when an IQ genius and a spy have their world's collide?

The Espionage Effect was romantic suspense but had the elements of raw emotions that allowed readers like myself to be emotionally invested into getting to know Devin and Alec. It allowed readers to get swept away in their tangible connection. I loved that though this book was so much more than spies and suspense but a story about finding oneself and love. So if you are ready to get immersed into a story filled with suspense and romance, then get ready to embark on one hot sexy intense adventure with Devin and Alec.

2 STARS! ★★

Another case where I got caught by the blurb but the book just didn't work for me. I'm a sucker for spy romances so I thought I gave this a shot. Main reason this one turned to be a bust was due to the overly descriptive prose that didn't add much to the plot itself and needed quite a fair bit of suspension of disbelief. Both MCs were also quite aloof at times. Also too many inner monologues, too little dialogues. I just ended up skimming to the end to see how it would ended up.

Sorry but this did not work for me at all.

3 spy games stars

While this isn't my favorite of the bastion books you have to admit it is quite detailed. The spy feel of it all really didn't do what it was supposed to for me. Some parts were quick to pass over and others overly detailed. I didn't really fall in love with either of the characters and this makes me sad :(

To get to the actual story you need to really get over the first half of the book. It makes you think different about the story almost like its two different stories.

Don’t get me wrong I still will jump at the chance to read anything by the Bastion’s but this one just missed the mark for me.. I may be bias because their no weddings series was epic!

Received copy for my honest review for Fallen for Books Reviewers

"This trip. You. EtherSphere One. All of it made me realize I want the adventure - the adrenaline-pumping, puzzle-solving, world-saving challenge to my body as well as my mind."
"This job could get you killed."
"True.[...]But in the moments I control, and even those I don't, where I'm holding on tight, along for the ride ... I get to LIVE."

This is my first book by any of these authors and to say I was a bit scared to start it is an understatement. I'm always apprehensive when I read a 'new to me' author and even more so when it's a book written by a duo -those books usually tend to feel disjointed and you can easily tell where one author ended her/his paragraph and the other started it. But this was NOT the case. The Espionage Effect is an amazingly written book, with an intriguing plot, captivating characters and wonderful descriptions.

The book follows Devin, our incredible heroine, on her vacation to Maroma Beach alongside her BFF Anna who decided it's time for Dev to let loose and live a little, instead of always staying sheltered in her own safe world. Although Devin has a lot of similarities with other female leads I've read about, she's also quite a unique character - she's uncommonly smart, with a tested IQ of 162, emotionally locked up due to a tragic event from her past and her mostly absent parents, Dev is only trying to make it through life without attracting attention towards herself and living her life as everyone else deems normal. This vacation is supposed to bring her out of her shell and that's exactly what it does.

"No more talk of the past."
"You focus on here. Now. Just keep breathing, slow, deep…steady."

Due to unimaginable events, Devin meets a mysterious stranger who later on gets introduced as Alec Marquez, the 'tall, dark and breathtaking' spy. He comes crashing down into Dev's life - literally - and turns it upside down. He introduces her to a new world - a world full of suspense, thrills and mischief - one that Dev begs to be a part of. Alec doesn't come without flaws - he has a dark past, he's emotionally closed off, but even with all that he shows her what life is all about.

"Both of us had become orphans by fate, souls drifting through life as we searched for our place and purpose in it, yet neither of us were those personas within these glass walls.[...] We’d been attracted to one another, not by providence, but by circumstance. Drawn together, not by mere physical attraction, but by the soul-deep essence of who we were, what we’d become in spite of it all."

The chemistry between the two protagonists is incredible. From the moment they've met I was cheering for them - I wanted Alec to show Dev she's worth his time and affection, and Devin to show him love is possible if you find just the right person who'll light your way through the darkness of life.

"Your love is still there. Underneath your shell, deep underneath the bulletproof plating you welded into place to protect yourself; it’s there."

The intimate moments between the two are amazingly written - although overly descriptive - it's an erotica after all - they are sexy and leave you slightly and weirdly turned on ;) All those scenes only add to the plot and character development; they aren't there just for the sake of it. Tastefully done with lots of sensual moments that only make the bond between Devin and Alec stronger.

What I loved the most about The Espionage Effect were the action packed scenes - it was like watching a movie, but 10 times better: because the writing was so good it felt like I was personally involved in all the spying, shooting and fighting. Devin is a natural when it comes to playing this spy game - she's mentally and physically strong, capable to asses the situation and find a solution and with Alec's help she is on her way of becoming even better. I was in awe with her, and I rarely say that about book heroines.

This story is full of twists and turns and just when I thought I had it all figured out, a curveball was thrown and I was left wanting more. I truly hope this is only the beginning to a great romantic suspense series, cause, I for one, cannot wait to read more about this fantastic world of EtherSphere One.

"I’m not the white-picket-fence guy. I’m definitely not the two-and-a-half-kids-and-a-dog guy. But if being with me makes your world less dark, if you’ll have me, I’ll be your guy."

If you are looking for an exceptionally well written, sensual and emotional thriller, then The Espionage Effect is the book for you.

Kat and Stone have done it again but this time, they’ve turned up the heat and thrill factor leaving readers in awe.

For starters, I was immediately invested in this story. You see I loved the unique characters. Devin is the beautiful, quiet, reserved, brilliant college student. When I say brilliant, I actually mean gifted. She’s been studying astrophysics and nuclear physics. Fun is definitely something she needs. Her past is also something that haunts her and keeps her fine tuned to her surroundings proving to be useful later on.

In this story, Devin is accompanied by her friend Anna, the yang to her yin. Anna is the wild or what some would call “fun” one of the pair. Their vacation to Mexico is just what Devin needs, a time to disconnect, relax and have an adventure.

Enter Alec. Oh… Mr. Alec Marquez is the one character I can’t wait to talk about. He is the hot blooded and gorgeous Spaniard Devin bumps into during her stay at the resort. To be honest, I have a weakness for this type of man and I’m glad Devin does too.  You will love him once you meet him and discover all of his talents and abilities. #sexybookboyfriend

The setting of this story is spectacular as well. Flawless writing and exquisite details make the story totally come alive in the mind of the reader. Kat and Stone have the ability to make their words turn into beautiful images and I enjoyed every single word.

Now, I really wasn’t’ expecting to be taken on the thrill ride I experienced in this story. Wow! This story is full of surprises both for the reader as well as for Devin, the female protagonist in this story. Devin’s years of study prove to have prepared her for the thrill she’s been seeking and Alec is the man to help take her on her wildest adventures.

This thriller was emotional as well. I was able to connect and understand what Devin was feeling and preparing herself for. Together with Alec, Devin discovered what it was like to fully come alive.

Of course, I did mention this book was sensual. The sex, intense, erotic, and again, exquisitely and tastefully written. There is the perfect amount of heat to melt through your eReader.

Prepare yourself for a wild ride as you enter the world of romantic suspense and spies. Join Devin, Alec, Anna and the full cast for a five star adventure.

I gave this book 5 stars. I highly recommend it. Be sure to add it to your TBR today.

This is how I felt in the beginning.

description

Devin is college student on a trip to Mexico. The trip is to help her find herself. She doesn't want to follow her parents' advice on become a scientist. Devin wants to use her high IQ on something greater.

Alec bumps into Devin at the resort and sparks fly. When Devin discovers that he's a spy on a mission, she wants in. They work together to fight against evil.

"Alec hadn't merely awakened me sexually. He'd opened my eyes to an entire realm of possibilities I hadn't considered before."

There were some good twists and turns in the story. The plot was okay, but the beginning just... didn't flow nicely. I didn't get hooked onto the characters until the last chapters. Would I read another book that continued their story? My answer is... maybe.

DNF @ 40%

Had a lot of trouble with this one. The heroine is so paranoid due to an incident in her past, but has sex with a stranger who breaks into her room while on vacation. She trusts him way too early. Why? And he is some big bad spy - why does he trust her?

There is no lead up to their sex either - no tension.

The heroine comes across flat and I feel like we don't get to know the hero.

They spy stuff is lacking in the first 40% as well.

A miss for me

Oh hello world of dangerous spies and subterfuge! While Devin is looking to restart her life or just find a new direction for it, she falls into a world that she didn’t knew existed…she and Alec heat up the sheets while the danger spikes around them. Of course, is anything really as it seems?

The first few chapters had me a little confused, but I quickly picked up what Kat was putting down and I realized I was supposed to be a little confused. The entire book is a question of whether things are really as they look and I sort of loved it. It had me thinking *GASP!* and trying to puzzle out the good from the bad, the real from the fake, the truth from the lies. I am also entirely in love with Devin’s brain. She’s incredibly intelligent and delightfully sarcastic – it’s practically a perfect combination.

Alec is equally as enticed with Devin’s brain…and her body…*fans self* He eye fucks her from the very first time he sees her and the heated perusals don’t let up. Even when his brain switches into a calculated mission, the stolen glances between them tell Devin that whatever is building is something even her logic can’t puzzle out.

I loved the layers of danger, sexual chemistry, logic, and betrayal that make up this modern day brainiac James Bond story. I quickly became invested in the characters and fell into the world of spies right along side Devin. Alec is more than welcome to get under my cover(s) anytime….*winks* 4 stars!

I have not had the pleasure of reading a book by this couple before. I was hooked in by the combination of genre's and was interested to see how one could balance this type of story line. What I found was a book that covers so many levels of emotion and depth of characters that this is going to be a difficult review to write.

The authors have created characters that are intelligent, emotionally flawed, but connected on many levels. The romance is smoking hot but their conversations are deep and even humorous at times. The intelligence of both of these characters makes this such an interesting read. No boring cookie cutter book here!

The storyline combines so many different levels of mystery, suspense, and deep betrayal that you literally cannot fathom what is coming next. I love how the authors always keep you on your toes and wrap your mind into nooks and crannies of what is happening and what might be coming next. Some crazy vacation!

While on some levels parts of the story could not really happen .... could it?? .... but on many other levels, this is written in a way that it is totally believable. I cannot decide what I love more; the characters brains and innate understanding for each other or the suspenseful story itself. While there is no cliffhanger, there is an opening left for a possible sequel??? I can only hope!

I fell hard for this book and the authors. Definitely one to grab and I am totally grabbing up their other books too!

Devin lives in darkness all the time, constantly hiding her true self from everyone around her. She feels like she needs something more out of her life but isn't quite sure how to find that missing piece. Luckily the missing piece finds her and her life is turned upside down by the sexy man who breaks into her hotel suite and opens her eyes to a whole new world she knows she won't be able to live without.

Devin's perspective of her surroundings is heightened thanks to her genius IQ and the way the scenes are described in detail through Devin's eyes really added a different level to understanding her character. She's quirky, a little awkward but also real and loveable.

Alec is just friggin HOT, a sexy spy who seems to say & do all the right things at the right time - I loved his character and wouldn't mind if he broke into my hotel suite while on holidays ;)

Together, Alec & Devin sizzled but the instant chemistry built into a mutual respect & friendship and then a beautiful and deep love for one another in the crazy and chaotic secret world they find themselves in. Even though I knew a twist was coming I couldn't quite pick it and I felt Devin's betrayal right along side her when she found out her whole life has been one big lie.

If you like action and suspense thrown into your romance stories with a bit of quirk and a whole lot of steam then I suggest you get your hands on The Espionage Effect now!!!

Devin Hill goes on vacation with her roommate Anna to a exotic location for the Christmas holidays. There, she keeps running into Alec Marquez - yes, even literally. He is quite the handsome charmer, but even Devin knows 3 times in 1 day is no longer coincidence.

Alejandro "Alec" Marquez actually works for a secret covert company, ESO for short. He is finding himself attracted to the intelligent Devin and when they see each other all the time... well... what is a man to do? In this case, it is show up in her hotel room bleeding and needing assistance, since Devin stabbed him.

Devin came to this location to find herself and have a fling. Now a man appears that she is absolutely hot for - so she starts thinking that at least she can get her some sexy time. Anna finds someone she is interested in also.

Lots of secrets and lots of shadows with this amazingly suspenseful story. I found the characters banter to be fun and sexy. They have to band together to go against the evil bad guys. Such a great book! I cannot wait to find out if it has a sequel!

Devin Hill is off-the-charts intelligent. With an IQ of 162 and an eidetic memory, she’s more than capable of taking care of herself. So when a much-needed vacation with her best friend takes an unexpected turn, she should be prepared to deal with anything. She was never prepared for this.

After the loss of her twin sister at a very young age, her parents relentlessly groomed her for greatness. Archery lessons, puzzles and intricate brain games were nothing out of the ordinary for her. And now that Alejandro Marquez has appeared in her life, she’s going to need all of her skills more than ever.

Alec seems like the perfect summer fling – gorgeous, intense and mysterious. When Devin throws caution to the wind and enters into a passionate affair with him, she can never imagine just how many secrets that one man can hold.

The Espionage Effect is one of those books that will hook you on so many different levels! It mixes the best of erotic romance, romantic comedy and mystery with an ending that you will never see coming to create a unique reading experience that only Kat and Stone could bring to marvelous life.

If being a spy is truly half as exciting as this, sign me up…

A gorgeous female spy? James Bond's got nothing on Devin! Devin Hill is on a dream vacation to find herself and let loose, maybe have a latin fling. Little does she know a chance meeting will change her life forever and may not be as coincidental as she thinks. Alec is a beautiful man, a spy with answers and more secrecy. There was so much in this story it's difficult to pinpoint a favorite scene or storyline. The imagery described is detailed and precise, I felt like I was at the resort. Devin's monologues are in depth and crazy brilliant as we grow to understand her genius. Her mind works in a different way by processing and analyzing everything to the point that she shuts down. The spy gadgets are absolutely fabulous - the sexy glasses Alec wears are a must! The twists and turns come together beautifully, choreographed perfectly. If you've read the No Weddings series you already like these authors and you'll love this book. The thrill of their adventures and her discoveries make this one of the best romance suspense books I've read this year. My copy was given by the authors for my honest review, thank you!

My Review
Devin Hill was blessed with an IQ bigger than NASA's research budget, she's young, sexy and craving adventure. Rather than following her parents advice and settling into a nice safe job...she decides she wants to make a difference! so she heads off on holiday with her best friend. Enter the enigmatic Alec! Instantly there was more chemistry than a mentos dropped in a bottle of diet coke! When she finds out he's a spy she instantly wants in and the two join forces and....if you want to know more then i suggest you buy the book.
What did i think? well...the plot was James Bond meets Alex Cross! The plot, while a little busy for my liking, was well planned and thought out. The characters were believable and the author's descriptive powers set the scene perfectly.
A great dose of escapism for any aspiring GIRLPOWER fan!

Thank you to the Bastions and Netgalley for providing a copy for review.

Before I type my thoughts about The Espionage Effect let me say that this was VERY different from their previous work together. The No Weddings series was hilarious, east to read and just flat out an awesome read all the way through.

The Espionage Effect did not have the comedic relief I have come to enjoy from the Bastions which is not necessarily a bad thing considering this book is supposed to be more serious, suspenseful and a whole lot of spy guy-ish. This was just not the book for me. I had a hard time connecting to the characters and the story. The book picks up speed and content at about half way through and I was interested to see how everything would play out.

I will continue to pick up every book the Bastions publish as I think they create brilliant and entertaining books.

I devoured the No Weddings series, so when I heard the husband and wife duo had another book out, I jumped at the chance to read it. The Espionage Effect is a romantic suspense, so has a completely different feel to the No Weddings books.

The romance scenes are a bit darker (as in "in the dark" - think blindfolded or lights switched off) and just as raunchy. There was no huge info dump at the beginning, so I enjoyed finding out more and more as the book went on. I loved Devin's "smart mouth" and found her a likable character. As for Alec... Mmmmmmm... I've had my fix of alpha male.

I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was a little slow to start but even though it seemed to take a while for things to get going, it was all important. Devin is a little different. She is a genius and see things differently than other people. She goes on vacation but gets more than she bargained for. There is plenty of action and lots of twists. It felt a little rushed toward the end, and a bit unfinished. I'm thinking this is the beginning of a series perhaps. I enjoyed it.

Kat & Stone Bastion's "The Espionage Effect" is a sexy standalone read. It's an action-adventure romance. It had some very erotic scenes. Probably the most well-described first kiss scene that I've ever read. Alec is a total hottie! Devin is so smart and tough, I didn't realize at first that Devin was a girl's name! The version I read was a very early one and needed more editing. I can't wait to read Geneva's story!

I loved it - BUT - it would have been better written as an adult novel. The 'new adult' was a little jarring for me. Alex was everything I wanted in a hero... and he needed an adult partner.

Having said that, I read it from cover to cover in three days flat (that's quick for me!) and would definitely pick up other books from this author.
