From the New York Times and USA Today-bestselling author of the House of Night series Kristin Cast comes the next spicy and spellbinding light romantasy in the Towerfall series.
In a world built on illusion, the truth is often deadly…
Juniper Chase has perfected the art of being exactly what everyone needs, especially her best friend's older brother, Beckett Davenport. He's the one man she's spent years pretending she doesn't want… and the one man she cannot have.
When a magickal tarot card rips her and Beckett from their world and into the enchanted Kingdom of Swords, Juniper is mistaken for their future queen, but slipping into the role should be instinct. After all, she knows how to play a part.
Except things in the Kingdom of Swords are not what they seem. Prince Luca Sterling, the man she's meant to marry, is hiding something beneath his devastating charm. Juniper can feel it, because in this kingdom, her instincts are literal power. And the deeper she falls into the prince's glittering, carefully crafted world, the clearer it
This kingdom is built on lies, and it's collapsing under their weight.
To uncover the truth behind the throne and the ancient Tower pulsing at the heart of the kingdom, Juniper will need the help of the man who sees her more clearly than anyone ever has. And when Beckett takes to his position as her guard with a fierce yet gentle protectiveness that brings new heat between them, Juniper uncovers the truth between them, too.
But exposing Luca's lies could send the realm crashing down around them. And choosing the truth might cost Juniper her future, her heart, and any chance of making it home.
Kristin is a #1 NYT and #1 USA Today bestselling author with over 30 million books in print.
She is proudly neurodivergent (ASD + OCD) and deeply consumed by character-driven chaos, emotionally vulnerable heroes, and smart, sexy heroines who always get the last word and the hot guy. When she’s not writing, you’ll find her devouring thriller, horror, and romance novels, practicing witchcraft, and being the exact kind of unhinged that makes group chats worth opening.
When she’s pulled into an enchanted kingdom with her best friend’s brother that she’s secretly in love with, Juniper must face difficult truths while finding their way home. Can they survive the danger and dark intentions that await them in the Kingdom of Swords?
Juniper transforms into who she perceives she needs to be. When she must impersonate the future queen, Juniper and Beckett must work together to keep up the ruse of charge and guard, all while burying their true feelings for each other.
Beckett is everything she’s wanted but could never have. He’s fiercely protective and has never crossed the lines of friendship. Juniper is so relatable and I loved the interwoven themes of illusions and rebirth and nods to Jane Austen heroes.
I devoured this portal fantasy packed with mutual pining, adventure, and delicious slow burn friends to lovers romance!
Huge thanks to the author and Bloom Books for the review copy. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Another very satisfying instalment in the Towerfall series! I loved this fourth book featuring the 'Death' card that has Juniper falling through to the world of Towerfall with her best friend's brother, Beckett - the man she's secretly pined after for years. Trapped together and losing their memories, Juniper also finds herself engaged to marry the heir apparent and that Beckett is her royal guard. They have to work together to break the curse and find their way home. Adventurous, spicy and full of tarot references. It was also great on audio. I am excited for more in this series! Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you to the author Kristin Cast for my free copy of this book.
This is how I want books that are meant to be about tarot to be! I love that the card chosen was Death. My understanding is that this card is always taken in a literal way when it just means transformation. I think the author captured that beautifully. I of course love the best friend’s brother trope. Also the conversation that Juniper and Grace have at the beginning was just too funny. The characters are fun and flawed but in a I get it kind of way. I do wish she had touched a bit more on Beckett’s background.
Overall, I really like this series, and while I think it might be done for now, it was left open for more so I hope we get that.
Summary:
Juniper is whoever someone needs her to be. Including pretending she doesn’t want her best friend’s older brother Beckett. But on Halloween night, something changed. A tarot card transports her and Beckett to the Kingdom of Swords. And now she is meant to marry a prince and rule. But not everything is as it seems. And something is very wrong. But maybe her attraction to Beckett will help save her, even if she can’t remember why. Will she be able to save herself and Beckett? Is Death really an end?
Kristin Cast has completely outdone herself with Death! If you love tarot-inspired lore, incredible world-building, and high-stakes romantic fantasy, pick this up immediately. The atmosphere was captivating right from the very first chapter, blending tarot symbolism with an utterly addictive storyline. The dynamics between the characters were perfection: Best Friend’s Older Brother + Forced Proximity: The tension! The chemistry between the leads is incredible, and watching their bond build while forced to rely on each other made every single interaction electric. Found Family: The supporting cast brings so much heart, humor, and depth to the story. The found family element was handled so beautifully and made me root for this group even more. The pacing was fast-paced and engaging, and the magical, tarot-inspired elements made the entire world feel fresh and unique. I couldn't put it down and am already dying for what comes next! Huge thank you to the author and publisher for providing an advanced reading copy! All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
I was So Lucky to receive ARC for Death the 4th book into the Towerfall series with this book series you can read them all separately but really they are intertwined in the same magical realm I think in the End you should read them in order because in the End of this book all comes into view and Oh Boy was it So Good This Book was my favorite just know Darkness does not always mean evil and light does not always bring good One of my favorite quotes from the Book I am your new beginning and beginning are often endings in disguise also The tower its the heart of the kingdom absorb lies and its being feed poison when your mind is blown this story will do just that THIS IS A MUST READ SERIES!!
I do not want this to be the last one. Kristin, you could go on forever with this series and I would absolutely devour it. The world of Towerfall was just so intriguing, so romantic, and I loved every part of it. The full circle moment really got me at the end. Juniper and Beckett were also amazing, I got literal butterflies!!
dnf after like two chapters. it’s probably soooo good but no matter how hard i try i can’t read romance for romance sake, i am deeply uninterested in will they won’t they that is shoved down your throat from first page, i need like a war or kingdom falling for half a book and THEN a longing glance. but cute writing and funny!!! great premise
excuse me but no one warned me that Beckett Davenport is THE book boyfriend of the year!!!! the will-they-won’t-they slow-burn tension between and juniper?!? ATE THAT RIGHT UP
This is the 4th book in the Towerfall series and I think my fav of them all! They are interconnected so you don't need to read in order but I'd still recommend it.
If you've never read a portal romance this is your sign! Juniper had secretly been pining for her best friend's brother Beckett when suddenly she is transported into another realm with him and also finds herself suddenly betrothed to the prince of the kingdom. She goes on a quest to uncover the truth and grows closer to Beckett 🔥. This was just the right amount of spicy and a perfect start to spooky season, I'll definitely be re-reading this fall!
Themes you'll find in this: ✨️Forced proximity 💜Best friend's brother ✨️Slow burn 💜Enchanted kingdom ✨️Portal romance 💜Found family ✨️Yearning
Thank you Kristin for my ARC in exchange for an honest review 😊
