I bought this collection mostly for "The Sway" by Amy Patrick. The Sway was great and it is part of the Hidden Series by Amy Patrick which I have read part 1. The other stories were great even though I haven't read the stories that go along with them. They were easily read separtely and they also gave me ideas for new authors I will problably enjoy. The price is right to be able to sample six different writers' work.

As of yet, I have only read one of the six novellas in this collection ("The Sway" by Amy Patrick/DeLuca). I do plan on reading the others, but I thought that I might as well post my thoughts on "The Sway".

Amy Patrick knows exactly how to mess with my emotions.

"The Sway" is a brilliant novella that focuses on Vancia, Lad's proposed bride-to-be, and takes place before and during the last few scenes of "Hidden Deep".

I love Vancia - so much. She is just such an awesome character who was not flushed out at all in the first two installments of the Hidden trilogy. I loved her perspective and I wish that I had read "The Sway" before "Hidden Heart". I just- she is absolutely amazing.

I also loved finding out what Davis was actually like. He's mentioned in the first two books of the trilogy, but this is the first time that we actually met him. It was... Interesting. Let's just say that I am certainly not a fan.

In "Hidden Deep", I shipped Ryann and Lad; in "Hidden Heart", it was Ryann and Nox; and now... I'm conflicted. I really do love Ryann and Nox, but then after reading "The Sway", I'm partial to the idea of Nox with Vancia and Lad with Ryann... You could say that I'm somewhat of a mess right now.

I would like to give a huge thank you to Amy Patrick, the author of the Hidden trilogy, for gifting me with a copy of this book in the anthology "Faery Tales: Six Novellas of Magic and Adventure". "The Sway" will be available for individual purchase after June 15, 2015.

Be sure to check out this series and let me know your thoughts! Who do you ship? Have you wound up as conflicted as I?

I was gifted a copy of this anthology by Amy Patrick and am pleased to leave my review. Once I have read the others I will finish the review.

Sway - Part of a new series beginning with Hidden Deep this can be a standalone story. In the first book we met the Light Elves where the prince is arranged to marry. This novella is developed around his betrothed and her storyline as part of the Dark Elves. I really enjoyed discovering the connections of characters and trying to decipher on my own those connections. Patrick does a wonderful job developing twists and descriptive imagery. Very easy to get lost in the Elven world.

***I received a copy of this anthology in exchange for an honest review***

 Morrigan

The Morrigan starts put with a riveting and exciting scene that creates an thick fog of anticipation. This book is fast-paced with an amazing energy. The prose is unique with interesting factors that captivated my intrigue.  The execution is flawless. The imagery is descriptive to the point of easy visualization without a sensory overload. I really enjoyed Tam's quick-witted logic and the over all story. It's honestly a great fantasy.  I'll definitely be reading more by this author.

The Sway: A Hidden Trilogy nivella

I could not put this book down. The story-line held me entranced in an elven world, hiding in plain sight among mortals, seeking domination while a greater mystery unfolded. I was flipping through the pages faster than ever in dire need to find out what happens next in the female protagonist's life and if she will ever find a back bone to defy her overly obstinate , adoptive father's plans for her life. The cliff hanger at the end drove me somewhat insane, but it is an exemplary novella for the YA audience that I HIGHLY recommend. On a side note, I am still overly desperate to learn the gran scheme of things behind the conspiracy theory. I will be reading the other books. I HAVE to read the other books. 4 stars.

How To Babysit A Changeling

It took me a moment to realize I'd read book one in a previous anthology involving faeries.  It's one of the many novels I've not gotten around to reviewing yet and worth the read. This story is an quick, entertaining read. In a world that vastly revolves around technology, I can see the young adult audience finding immense enjoyment in How to Babysit a Changeling.  Marney's character is down to earth and I find myself not only wanting to read more of her, but the FeyLand series as well. 4 Stars!

Faeleahn

This novella has been anticipated for quite some time!  The Otherworld was my first Fae series and the driving force behind my addiction. I've never been fond of reading about weddings, but Faeleahn had me in awe and in tears. It is more eloquently written than most novels I have EVER read and astonishingly,  Johnson's writing improves with each new release. It is absolutely perfect. If you are one of the many Otherworld fans, you do NOT want to miss out reading more about Meghan and Cade,  as well as their families.  It's not disappointing in the least and I honestly cannot praise Faeleahn enough. I've already informed many fellow fans and it hasn't even been released! I can't imagine anyone not loving this series, but I feel it's a fair to warn some readers that there is a more steamy scenery involved than the former novels. I don't feel it's anything too risqué and it is tastefully written. I know most will be thrilled, but if you're a parent it doesn't hurt to read ahead for your own stamp of approval.  Personally,  it melted my heart. The romance between Meghan and Cade is swoon-worthy It is a fast, fun read that will have you author stalking by the end.  5++++ Stars!

Arranged

I found Arranged downright fascinating.  It is a dystopian/science fiction/faery tale mesh up. Science Fiction isn't typically my preferred genre, but it had more of a fantasy vibe flowing. I loved Tulupea and Michael was just a really sweet character. I really fell in love with some of the characters and loathed the despicable ones.  Arranged is a great story.  I'm really hoping there is more to this story because I am absolutely dying to read more. I loved it! 5 Stars!

Without Armor: Elemental Fire
Having read books by Alexia Purdy before I knew I could expect an excellent story from her. She's amazing with words. I became extremely enthusiastic upon discovering Benton has a love interest, but it left me feeling more on the melancholy side. I hope I get the chance to learn more. It was a nice little story. 5 stars!

WOW -- This collection contains six faery novellas by six amazing authors.

All six novellas are well written, smooth flowing, and very easy to read. I found it interesting how each author put their own spin the same type of fae creature described in more than one book -- yet they were so different!!!

I loved them all, but I was asked to read the book by Julia Crane. Since they are all short novellas, this was easy to do in a small amount of time. I found Arrangement downright fascinating!!! (In the book, it is titled Arrange.) I loved Tulupea and Michael -- two awesomely described and very sweet characters. I loved how the author got you slowly into the story and then when Tulupea arrived on earth, how she found out her true mission while there and the things that she had to do to stay safe. I don't write spoilers - and that is hard to do when you have to write a review of such a short type book. Arranged (or Arrangement) was a fantastic story and I hope that Julia doesn't disappoint and continues the story in another book.

I will warn you that the majority of these novellas are fast moving, easy reads and you will find it hard to put them down until you finish them!!!

I received a complimentary copy of Arrangement (Arranged) in exchange for my honest review. All opinions shared are 100% my own. However, to give a true honest review of the entire collection, I did purchase the book and read the rest of the selections included in the book.

I received an ARC copy of this collection and enjoyed reading each of the novellas.

As a fan of Jenna Elizabeth Johnson's Otherworld series, my favorite was Faeleahn.  It is a great addition to the stories of Eilé.   It is well-written and fits seamlessly into the existing material.  I don't want to spoil it for anyone else, but it is just what I hoped it would be!  Ms. Johnson's writing gets better and better.  Read the Otherworld Trilogy before this novella to avoid spoilers!

Anne Patrick's The Sway was my next favorite in the collection.  This, too, is a well-written story with a unique take on the Fae.  The politics of this world and the tongue-in-cheek jabs at the unattainable bodies in the modeling industry added to the uniqueness of the story.   I hope it will be continued!

How to Babysit a Changeling by Anthea Sharp is a nice story for young readers new to the fantasy genre.  It uses the video game angle as the access point between the mortal world and the fae world.  I think a lot of kids would be able to relate to that.

Arranged by Julia Crane, The Morrigan by Phaedra Weldon, and Without Armor by Alexia Purdy are interesting stories, but could use serious editing for plot and typos.  The stories were difficult to read at times.  All three authors have potential and I look forward to seeing what they can do in the future with proper editing.

Lovers of YA/NA fae fantasy and urban fantasy will like these 6 novellas by 6 different authors

Overall rating 4.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book has been sitting in my TBR forever and I mean to say since 2019, lol.

6 novellas. 6 authors. Mostly NA fae fantasy stories rather than fairytales but there are 2 YA tales as well. (permafre3 to download on Zon, btw).

My faves in order of “me likey”:

Story 2/6 - 5⭐️The Sway by Amy Patrick - after losing her parents Vancia is adopted by a political big shot and dreams of art school & dating a human boy until she’s told by her controlling stepdad that her politically advantageous marriage to an Elven prince has been arranged. Definitely hooked as this tale of betrayal and dashed hopes and intrigue has all the feels of a bigger book than a novella and now I want to know what happens to Vancia - does she go to art school, does she meet Nox the musician and is he or isn’t he her childhood friend, did her sinister stepdad plan everything and I mean everything - argh!!! I need to read the trilogy now!! This one’s YA urban lore with a hint of elves being infiltrated everywhere, even Hemsworth brothers.

Story 6/6 - 5⭐️ - Without Armor by Alexia Purdy - the Unseelie are up to no good - Benton is a seelie royal half-breed elemental who hunts the darkest of creatures, including the Unseelie. The writing style hooks you immediately - such longing and self-loathing & hope for a 2nd chance romance. What do you do when you meet your first love and you both destroyed each other for anyone else? An interesting take on Sleeping Beauty’s sleeping curse - a revealing curse to show what kind of magical being someone is. This one’s a NA 2nd chance paranormal fantasy.

Story 5/6 - 4.75⭐️ - Arranged by Julia Crane - Earth magick is restored but at what price - In 2133, after magic wars which humans resisted only 13% of human population is left and it’s up to the fae to help repopulate and restore the Earth. Tulupea is a fae princess and her queen mother announces she’s found her a perfect human mate. The savage humans and well-meaning dark fae reminded me a bit of Wells’ Eloi and Morlocks in his Time Machine story. The love story between a 19yo boy and a 200yo princess was interesting. Cliffhanger ending made me curious to seek out the author’s other books, but maybe a lot later. NA postapocalyptic fae fantasy.

Story 1/6 - 4.5⭐️The Morrighan by Phaedra Weldon - love her books and this one was no different - enchanting. Tam never knew he was a Leprechaun & Morrighan’s intended. “Oh crap.” Indeed. NA celtic lore.

Story 3/6 - 4.25⭐️ How To Babysit a Changeling by Anthea Sharp - videogames as portals to magical worlds - duh! The babysitter FMC is Samoan (so #bipoc) who treats the changeling like she would a human child - coz the fae treat the kids they whisked away the same. The gaming plotline wasn’t my cuppa tbh, but how Marny handled Korrigan was… admirably stoic. YA gaming + fae aficionados will love this.

Story 4/6 - 3.5⭐️ - Faeleahn by Jenna Johnson - in the aftermath of an epic fight with Morrighan two soul mates visit with their family - from mortal adoptive to fae queens - to get their blessings for their nuptials - seems like a sequel or middle of a story that begun elsewhere. It got interesting when the fae queen mentioned secrets and the groom’s greatest omission of all, but it was a sweet story of two people in love going to see family; hardly any darkness. NA romantic fae fantasy.

Recommended for lovers of YA/NA fae fantasy and urban fantasy.

Contains six novellas, all by authors I have never heard of, although they are described as "award-winning bestselling authors." Apparently it is intended to be YA fantasy, so I had some doubts about reading it. Some of them were quite good and I enjoyed them. A couple could have used an editor and a proofreader! It took me quite a while to plow through it, since I was busier than usual.
The stories were interesting enough that I read them all, but not really that great, either.

The Morrigan - Quite interesting and also entertaining - the Morrigan is trying to steal Tam's shillelagh, which he didn't even know he had. In fact he didn't even know he was a leprechaun. This may have been the best of the lot.

The Sway - This was okay. Vancia has always lived with humans, despite being a member of the Dark Court of the elves. Now her father wants her to marry a Light Elven prince - a political marriage. I've already forgotten the plot of this one, but I did read it all.

How to Babysit a Changeling - This one was also entertaining. Marny helps her friend to get his little brother back after he is exchanged for an ugly faerie creature. Her primary job is babysitting the changeling while the rest fight.

Faeleahn - Meghan and Cade are living together. She has learned that she has magic, and he is the son of the Morrigan, whom they have finally escaped from and defeated. Now they are going to be bonded. They go to visit her human world and his elven world to let their friends know. This is another one that I pretty much forgot a day after I read it.

Arranged - Tulupea's mother, a queen of the fairies, is on Earth, trying to heal the damage that was done trying to fight off magic. Now she wants Tulupea to join her and mate with a human (via DNA, apparently) in order to repopulate the earth. Tulupea has a lot of difficulty adjusting to life outside the fairy courts, but realizes that healing the earth is important. Okay.

Without Armor - Benton is a hunter of dark faeries (Unseelie) in Newark (?). He is part human and part elemental, and his power is with fire. I've already forgotten the plot of this one, too. Iirc, this is the one that most needed an editor - or at least a proofreader.

All of the stories here are enjoyable reading. Some are intended as preludes to series while others are complete stories set a world created by a series, although generally they leave you feeling that the story could continue. A really good introduction to the work of various writers.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this collection of novellas. Most of them left me wanting to know more so I will be adding these authors to my must read list.

The Morgan by phandera weldon

Tam is a uni student studying folklore when he gets ambushed on his way home from drumming circle. Little does he know his life is about to change. The thugs are actually trolls and he is actually a leprechaun with the power to change the mythical world. I'm looking forward to discovering the journey that tam and Aine take to save the magical world.

The sway by Amy Patrick -

Vanica is a dark elf living amongst humans with her pappa (adopted father). He has arranged for her to be married to a light elf. Son of the light king to be exact but it's for his own nefarious gains. He believes that elves should be the superior race and that humans should bow down to them. Van makes decisions for herself aling the way discovers that maybe her past isn't as she thought.

How to babysit a changeling by Anthea Sharp -

Marny volunteers to babysit a changeling from the fey world who was sent as a replacement for her friend Tams brother who the fey people had taken hostage. Marny develops a friendship of sorts with the changeling called Kerrigan and this story is about not only their friendship but also how her human friends band together to save tams brother. A great start to what sounds like a great series.

Faeleahn by Jenna Elizabeth Johnson -

Megan and Cade are on a journey to tell all their family both in the mortal world and the Elle about their upcoming wedding after the demise of morrigan, cades mother and an evil entity.

Arranged by Julia crane -

Tulupea is a fairy sent to earth to help repair Mother Nature. Her job is to repopulate with a human, David. David has second thoughts after learning that tulupea is a dark fairy but once she proves how good she is he once again agrees.

Without armor by alexia purdy -

Benton is an elemental. He is not fey but possesses the magic of fire. Isolde is a fey well Benton thinks she is anyway. They reunite when Benton attacks a group of fey that are holding a human child hostage.
Isolde is 'cursed' and taken by one of her own trusted group members.

Who doesn't like fairy tales. These six novellas were a breath of fresh air. Bringing light to new stories that I would have never thought about as fairytales. Loved how each story was a new adventure and some of them seemed to match s story from before. Like the morrigan and how to babysit a Changling. Was a good read. Kept me entertained while I read it. Thank you for the chance to read this book was awesome

So far I have only read one of the stories (The Sway) and Amy blew me away again! Her writing is amazing and I love reading about the Light and Dark Elves. It makes me even more excited for the third book in the series!
I will edit this if I end up reading any of the other stories!

I'm marking this as complete because all I really wanted to do was read the Alexia Purdy story, and the rest will take me forever. So I'm done.

One I'm holding off on because I would like to read the rest of the series first.
