Two Stories: Christian Fiction

Rate this book
Two Christian Fiction is a short read demonstrating Christian actions from E.M. McCarthy (The Kiss That Saved Her). "Charity Begins at Home" is a snapshot of a family on the verge of the devastation of a bank foreclosure. Based on an inspirational true story, the ending may be a surprise. "A Day Gone Bad" is filled with suspense when an ordinary field trip goes wrong. Like other inspirational stories and Christian books, these two short stories explore human nature in desperate circumstances.

Age-appropriate for teens and adults.

Look for E.M. McCarthy’s next novel, The Battlefield (Spring 2015) about a ghost who falls in love after haunting for over 150 years.

This book contains, as the title already says, two short stories.
And though those stories are fictional, they actually could happen to people like you and me every day.

In the first story "Charity Begins at Home" we meet a family that is about to be evicted from their home. With no place to go everyone is in fear of a future, which looks terribly bleak. And then a miracle happens in form of a kind person close to them.
While the story is set in the 1930s, it's events could easily happen in our time.

The second story "A Day Gone Bad" is about the terrifying experience of a teacher and young mother when she becomes victim of a crime. The help she receives comes from a very much unexpected source.
As in the first story we also learn here, that God works miracles even in the most desperate situations, and He does so by using the people around us.

I can recommend the book for older children from age 10 upwards. It can also be used as a teaching tool for Sunday school and Catechism classes.

That was a nice, cute little read. Two slice of life stories that lean a bit on the drama side, but both pretty good. :3

"Charity Begins at Home" was the shorter of the two, and was a little snap-shot piece. A family is taking one last look around their home after a foreclosure, and it's a nice peek into their lives during this devastating event. The is a bit sudden, but it works out. The writing features a lot of short sentences, which makes the reading a tad choppy, but overall it's a good story and a nice read.

"A Day Gone Bad" starts out slice of life as a teacher takes her students on a field trip, and takes a quick trip into crime territory when an unexpected crook makes an appearance. The action is tense, the little hero is cute, and it's got a twist end reminding everyone that not everything turns out for the best for everyone, so we should be grateful when things do turn out our way.

If I had any complaints, it'd probably be that I kept sitting there while reading going "Please don't." and then, it did. It's not a horrible turn of events, and it doesn't effect the story too much, but neither of those two traits by themselves are particularly threatening. And really, shouldn't be. Maybe some other indicator that this was the bad guy, like shady behavior or a hint of violence would have been better.

But, that's a minor complaint. Both stories were good, they've got some nice focuses on Christian values. Good reads & I hope you can check them out. :3
