As World War II ended, one of its most terrifying weapons had yet to be unleashed.

#1 New York Times bestselling author Brad Thor and New York Times bestselling author Ward Larsen serve up their signature “high-caliber suspense that keeps the pages flying” (Publishers Weekly, starred review) with this chilling new thriller rooted in one of the darkest secrets of World War II.

When two American archaeologists vanish while live-streaming an expedition deep in the jungles of Indonesia’s Halmahera Island, their final footage triggers a classified US intelligence alert dormant since 1945.

DIA bioweapons expert Dr. Sara Taylor and CIA operative Alex Ross are sent to investigate. What they uncover is no ordinary ruin, but a sealed WWII-era installation tied to Imperial Japan’s notorious Unit 731, a top-secret Nazi scientific program, and a forbidden series of wartime experiments erased from history.

But before Sara and Alex can determine what they’re dealing with, the site is breached by a powerful organization operating beyond the reach of any government—one intent on reshaping the global balance of power on its own terms.

What begins as a mission to rescue two missing Americans quickly becomes a race to stop a weapon hidden at the end of World War II from bringing civilization to its knees.

In 1944, unbeknownst to most people, the Germans and Japanese were collaborating on a weapon of mass destruction. It all hinged on the Imperial Japanese scientist meeting with a German scientist. Germany had surrendered, but Japan had not won; the German scientist met him. As soon as they met, the unthinkable happened, and Japan surrendered shortly thereafter. To keep the technology from falling into the wrong hands, the Japanese imperial soldier set off a series of bombs that created a landslide that buried the lab for 80 years.

In the present day, Dr. Sara Taylor, the government's only specialist in WMDs, has heard of Japanese Project 173; she even wrote her dissertation on it. When a couple of World War II archaeologists stumble upon the buried lab site, Dr. Sara knows that they found the real deal as soon as she sees the markings on the door. And Aaron's blog post reveals that the archaeologists may have found the missing planes they were looking for, something Dr. Sara knows better. She knows it’s key to get to the location to secure the weapons as soon as possible. She’s assigned security to a guy named Alex, who is Agency and seems to know several helpful people for the journey.

While tracking down Project 173, Sara and Alex race against time and unknown danger to stop this agent from being used. It is dispersed at a festival, which is considered a huge success, as multiple casualties occur and 1000 people are injured. Sara and Alex know their agencies are compromised through technology, so they go old school to find the distributor and contain the weapon before more happens. Thor and Larsen take us on a wild chase through Indonesia, Bali, Thailand, and New Zealand. An actual landline is their only hope for secure transmission. Can they find the source and stop the spread of an agent before others are harmed? You’ll have to read every last word to find out.

I was given an early copy of Fire Fall by NetGalley for a review.
After enjoying Cold Zero earlier this year so much, I was eagerly anticipating Fire Fall when I heard about it. And needless to say, I was not disappointed.
Fire Fall starts with a prologue set at the end of WWII. The Japanese and German have men collaborating with each other to develop a new form of warfare. But the war ends before they can release it.
A couple of archeaologists are hunting for WWII relics and stumble upon a cave in Indonesia. Snapping some photos for their blog, they set in motion a race by different groups to find the cave and grab the secrets it was hiding.
Sara Taylor is one of this with her NOC partner, Alex. Behind the 8 ball, they are racing to find what was hiding in the cave before it is released into the world and havoc is wreaked.
With great protaganists and fearful antagonists, we are given a story that is altogether possible in the world today. The antagonists use their wealth, resources and connections to thwart Sara and Alex, again, something that is possible todaym unfortunately.
With a weapon that is a novel idea, this book was refreshing to read. I raced through, trying to find out what was going to happen next.
Short chapters are my kryptonite when reading great books. It is so hard to put down a book with I can see that it will only take a few minutes to read the net chapter. And then the next and so one until it is much too late at night.

The duo of Brad Thor and Ward Larsen have given us two excellent books and we can only hope that more are on the way.

READ MY FULL REVIEW AT Best Thriller Books

Tension-filled and action-packed, Fire Fall is propulsive from beginning to end, pulling you relentlessly from one chapter to another. Brad Thor and Ward Larsen deliver another breathless, white-knuckle, cinematic thrill ride that grabs ahold and doesn’t let go.

It’s intense and entertaining, combining history with the present day by asking the question of what could happen if a long-lost experimental weapon is uncovered and deployed eight decades later using modern technology. And it’s just plausible enough to give you pause and invade your nightmares.
