Captain Henry and the Land of Junk

Cue Movie Trailer Guy Voice.

The year is 2057, and Space Force Captain Henry Gifford is on a routine mission to investigate strange black hole activity when he is sucked into a celestial anomaly and crashes onto a bizarre, fantastical world.

His ship is completely trashed and his AI assistant Farley, who has found refuge inside of Captain Henry’s helmet, has abandoned all military protocol in favor of biting sarcasm. To make matters worse, the local population, contrived of mostly elves and giants and pirates (even humans too!), are convinced that Captain Henry’s arrival is the fulfillment of the “Star Man Prophecy”—a grand legend that predicted the return of a spacefaring savior.

Captain Henry does not want to be a savior, however; he just wants to get home. Eventually.

But to survive long enough to do that, he must lead a traveling fellowship of the absolute worst sort of people: young adults. There’s the dramatic elf princess eager for adventure, the emo prince who’d rather stay in, and the sneaky fairy thief liable to rob them both; plus more. Together, they will battle dragons, talk to trees, and even visit a floating sky-city filled with snooty, bureaucratic wizards, all essential stops in their quest to solve the Star Man mystery.

But they are not alone, for there is another on Junk who knows the truth, a dark entity from places unknown who aims to obtain it for himself, and wield it the only way he knows how; evilly.

Saving this strange world was not on Captain Henry’s to-do list, but if he wants to keep it off his Bucket List and ever get home, he must; even if it means dragging his chaotic crew of misfits kicking and screaming into the history pages with him.

Grab your copy of Captain Henry and the Land of Junk, and let your curiosity lead you into a world where magic is a feeling, the villains professional, and the saviors of the universe are just as clueless as the rest of us.

J.A. Marion

J.A. Marion is an author of absurdity, that sketchy side of town where science fiction, fantasy, and humor will sometimes meet. He lives on Earth (for now) with a kick-ass wife and inspirational son, where he loves being a dad, enjoys being an uncle, and begrudgingly writes stories. He has two dogs at any given time and also loves to cook. Food, not dogs.

This book surprised me in the best way! Adventure/fantasy are not usually my jam, but I fully enjoyed this book. The characters/plot were entertaining, it had several millenial/pop culture nods, and several humorous moments had me laughing out loud. Marion's unique writing style fosters curiosity. You'll be drawn into the unique character dynamics as this group of unlikely comrades, lead by Captain Henry, set off on a wild adventure.
