When Paula's mare is attacked, she wonders if she'll ever have the heart to ride again. Then along comes Jazz, an unruly, unschooled but very talented young horse. Paula falls in love, and is determined to ride Jazz, but their first event is a fiasco. Only Tony seems to enjoy her failure - he's jealous of Jazz's talent.
Then things start to go wrong. Is someone trying to hurt her? And even worse, is Jazz in danger too?
A childhood/ teenhood book I used to like but...don’t so much anymore. The story’s a bit clunky and very telling, though I still enjoyed the eventing training course and the end competition the best, which really used to be my fave parts anyways.
Nothing much happens and the back blurb is WAY more dramatic then the actual insides, haha. Some jokes made fell flat because they weren’t given any context, several sentences made no sense, how old is Freya because Peter has hair “graying on the edges” yet I thought they were both in their twenties (?!), and I still don’t get why Tony hates Paula so much.
Jazz is still a total trip and character though sadly the rest is not as good and gripping as younger me remembers. It’s okay but no character growth happens and I think it’s also supposed to be set in America but the whole setting and feel is very European so...?? 🤷🏼♀️ It’s not a translated work so I’m not sure what happened there.
And just for fun, here’s my fave messed up line: “He had been keeping himself pretty much to himself” which cracked me up, LOL! 😂
