Rich worldbuilding, risky romance, and dark happenings make this book a perfectly enticing escape! Mysterious plot and intriguing characters trace their way to a conclusion that leaves a lasting imprint. I had goosebumps frequently while reading, cried for various reasons/feelings, and I wanted to punch some people. I was so excited to see what came next and thrown by the many revelations. The romantic plot adds layers of emotional complexity that perfectly compliment the chaos of this world and it's magic. A deep, thought-provoking read full of words any logophile would be thrilled to see.

The magic was my favourite part! Necromancy, supernatural gifts, and the political complexities around it's use—interesting and compelling! I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to read this as a beta reader. I had been waiting a long time for it, and it did not disappoint. This is one for my favourites shelf!

I recommend TDoTS to readers who want a dark and mysterious plot full of romantic, gothic vibes, with twinges of grief and mild gore. An epic tale of discovery, identity, societal shifts, and changed hearts. Breathtaking.
