Harlem Heroin(e): My Love Affair With Harlem Street Life And The Men Who Ruled It

Rate this book
Tonia Taylor's life changed forever on the night that her friend and brother Jermaine "Baby Jay" was murdered. But Jermaine was actually the last of a long line of real, smart, and handsome street dudes she encountered growing up in Harlem. In the early 80’s she became intrigued by the fast life despite growing up in a strict and disciplined household. That curiosity eventually led her to becoming one of the popular girls in Harlem who obtained luxury cars, money, diamonds and furs. In this tell-all memoir, she takes us on a journey back to her life on the streets of Harlem, a journey that intertwines the stories of many Street legends.

OMG

Can we say "whore"? She slept with plenty drug dealers, the same drug dealers that slept with plenty girls. I know her vagina saw the gynecologist (gyn) often. Talk about side chick. She talks about the power of pussy! Lol. Men can always look & tell when a girl is easy & it sound like that's what she was.. By the looks of her pictures, she was not all that cute so maybe she had a big ass. IDK . I'll be dam, if my 12 y..o sister approaches me & ask can she go on a date. This girl WAS a trip. Making black women look desperate to be in with a drug dealer. She says the power of pussy. She ment to say the community pussy because anyone that was someone had her pussy...no judgement. I'm just commenting & giving my reviews...

So Good!!

Infominds on Youtube brought me here lol and now I really can’t wait for her episode to drop!! With so many unbelievable storylines in street fiction it was good to read something real. I loved the fact that she included pictures too! And OMG I felt her pain when Maine died. The way she set it up I knew it was going to happen but I still wanted him and Lil Sis to work it out! Ms. Tee, if you’re reading this, write Lou’s story next since yall are still close 🙏🏾. Aaannnndddd I neeeeeeddd to know who you married, sis LOL

A quick read if you want something quick and entertaining that is in the similar vein of Confessions of a Video Vixen by Karrine Steffans or It’s No Secret by Carmen Bryant. The book is not well written and could be better with the sequencing of events. There are a lot of “LOL”, “SMH”, “WTF” which can become redundant at certain times.

Harlem Heroine by Ms. Tee is a deep memoir that sends readers on a journey into what a street life was really about and like for many. Heartbreaking and courageous tale in sharing the past of hurt, pain, regret, and the violence that came with it all. It was enchanting to read about the bad life and what comes with it from someone who has gone through each stage of that particular lifestyle. We all make choices. Sometimes for the best and sometimes for the worst. The drama felt like I was there actually experiencing first-hand.The events take place in Harlem around the 80's and 90's time era. It was quite an interesting and educational experience. The fact that this was real and not one's everyday urban fiction novel, made the connection to the story being told that much more important. Ms. Tee is a talented writer and whose story will stick forever in the minds of every reader. One has to be a strong person inside and out to survive the street life or else risking it swallowing one whole. Overall, I recommend this novel to readers everywhere.
