Does the Bible you hold in your hands match the one in your heart?
Most Christians would never take a black marker to Scripture. We wouldn't tear out a page because we didn't like what it said.
But we do something much more subtle, yet equally we agree with the Bible and then live like we're the exception.
We keep the parts that comfort us, inspire us, and fit the life we already want. But when Scripture confronts our desires, challenges our assumptions, or costs us something, we start editing.
Not on the page. In practice.
Redacted goes straight at the truths Christians are most tempted to black Jesus as the only Way, suffering, hell, sex and sexuality, money, political allegiance, mission, discipleship, and the myth of "just me and Jesus."
But this isn't a book about winning arguments or pointing out everybody else's compromises. It's about having the courage to examine our own.
Because it's not hard to own a Bible, read a Bible, quote a Bible (even defend the Bible) and still live by a version you've edited.
So grab a copy, bring your Bible, and come ready to examine the places where we're most tempted to edit God. If Jesus is Lord, you don't get to keep the marker.
A must-read, in my humble opinion! Jake hits on so many controversial points and directs readers straight to the Word of God to dig for truth. I found myself reading quotes out loud to my husband throughout the whole thing….and the chapter on politics….HE SAYS THE THINGS!! The writing style is clear, concise, REAL and engaging for the every-day reader. I hope to lead a small group at our church in the future using this book alongside the Bible!
Scripture says clearly, “As iron sharpens iron so one person sharpens another.” This book is a tool the Father used to sharpen me, and I’m grateful. If you want to live in the abundant life Jesus came to give, then I recommend this book as a resource to help you on your journey.
