While the opening chapters of the book moved rather slowly, I thoroughly enjoyed this Polish St. Louis history. From my childhood, I was well aware of the large Polish community in the near north side area of St. Louis, surrounding St. Stanislaus Kostka parish. But I was surprised to learn of other Polish neighborhoods and parishes in St. Louis. In particular, I learned that the south St. Louis Mount Pleasant neighborhood where I was born (Virginia Ave, Michigan Ave, Mt Pleasant St, Itaska St, etc.) was also a Polish neighborhood, anchored by St. Hedwig parish. Raise a glass to this book. Na zdowie!!!
