She is his ruination.

He is her salvation.

Destined for death, Rory Alarie's life has never been her own. As Adelphi's Sacrifice, every moment of every day is monitored by overbearing guards and a controlling family who will stop at nothing to ensure she remains obedient to the mortal kings. Except Rory harbors a secret—she doesn't want to die. Not for her family, not for her kingdom, and certainly not so supernatural creatures can be eradicated from Norica.

Famed assassin Quill Godrickson doesn't kill innocents. Yet when the vampire supreme threatens to kill all those he holds dear if he refuses, he accepts what's supposed to be his easiest assignment yet—eliminate Adelphi's Sacrifice before the mortal kings gain more power. However, when Quill arrives in Adelphi, he doesn't expect to find himself irresistibly drawn to the one he's meant to assassinate.

As Rory and Quill are caught between duty, desire, and death, it is Rory who must choose her final reluctantly die as Adelphi's Sacrifice or allow Quill to turn her into one of the creatures she was raised to hate.

This has been on my TBR for a while & now there’s an audiobook of it. She’s the human raised solely to be given as a sacrifice; he’s the vampire sent to kill said sacrifice before it can take place. What could possibly happen?!😂

I feel for the FMC; she’s lead such a miserable existence & gets the chance to come into her own. The MMC actually has a bit of a personality & even a goal of his own. This is an extremely fast burn that starts with insta lust. But I totally get it considering her dire circumstances. There’s a typical overused trope that guides the romance but it came together rather sweetly & was even touching by the end. & a whole star goes for their communication skills. Great stuff. The miscommunication is at a bare minimum.

The story is the standard, pretty straight forward romantasy fare. It’s fun, the plot is plain, simple & easy to understand, unfolds conveniently & without much depth to it. It’s really trying to give sultry & sexy but falls closer to cringe. The pace is so fast that we don’t get to spend any time with anything before moving on to the next event. The villains oh the villains, so comical but made the culmination at the end very satisfying.

A fine option when one is in need of a quick audiobook with minimal plot, plenty of spice & a decent romance. & good narrators too.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the audiobook ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed Our Immortal Hearts. It was one of those books that pulled me in right away, and I ended up flying through it because I was always curious to see what would happen next.

The world-building was easy to follow without taking over the story, and I liked that the focus stayed on the characters and their relationships. The romance was sweet, the chemistry worked for me, and I especially loved the found-family aspect. Those friendships ended up being just as enjoyable as the romance itself.

I wouldn’t say it was a perfect read (listen),there were a few moments where things slowed down a bit—but I was invested from beginning to end. The audiobook was also well done and made it really easy to stay immersed in the story. I loved the narrators.

Overall, this was a fun romantasy with characters I enjoyed spending time with, and I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for whatever Lara Buckheit writes next.

I read this spicy standalone vampire romance in less than 24 hours. This book is a fun time with great spicy scenes and interesting character development. Some parts did feel a tad rushed as a standalone, but overall this was very enjoyable!

What an absolutely lovely fated mates standalone romantic fantasy with spice!

The premise is a young woman who has been raised to be a sacrifice to the gods, with a limited life but plenty of sass at times! Quill is the vampire assassin sent to kill the sacrifice to ensure political upheaval… but with a twist..

The story that ensues is what happens when they cross paths and their journeys to right the wrongs against them.

A great action and spice packed story with lots to enjoy.

This was an arc read, and this is my honest review!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the audiobook ARC in exchange for an honest review.

First and foremost I'm so happy to know that the ebook is on KU and I was able to read it along with the audiobook. Overall it was a good story, likeable characters, but I wasn't a fan of the male narrator which make it a little hard to enjoy listening to it. I'm also not a huge fan of instalove but it was written in a way where I've enjoyed it more than I have in the past.

-instalove
-fated mates
-vampires
-found family

DNF @ 61%

This one and I just weren't meant to be.
I kept pushing because the premise is genuinely interesting and different, and I was convinced it would eventually click for me. Unfortunately, by 61% I realized I was only continuing because it was an ALC and not because I actually wanted to pick it back up.

My biggest issue was the romance. The characters were intensely devoted to each other almost immediately, but I never felt like the relationship earned that level of emotional investment. Ironically, the emotional connection did start developing later on, but by then the story had already expected me to buy into this all-consuming love. It made the romance feel more forced than organic.

The writing also didn't quite work for me. There were multiple moments where the dialogue sounded stiff and unnatural, which repeatedly pulled me out of the story. Since I listened to the audiobook, I also struggled with the male narrator, making it even harder to stay immersed.

The frustrating part is that I actually think the plot has a lot of potential. It's unique, and that was the one thing that kept convincing me to give it "just one more chapter." Eventually, though, I had to admit I was bored, and if I'm over halfway through a book and still waiting to become invested, it's probably just not the right book for me.

I'm sure this story will find its audience, but unfortunately, I wasn't it

To be completely honest, I really wanted to love this book. It started off really well however, I felt that it just kept going in circles and I felt like New problems kept getting added without concluding the problem that came before it. I do think that there are people that will love this book, but I feel like I’ve read this book in separate different books, I felt like this was a patchwork from other books.

I am absolutely FLOORED. Gutted. Sobbing. Obsessed.

This is more than just a smutty vampire book (but believe me it is hottttt). Our Immortal Hearts was so romantic and full of action. And the found family element got me emotional on more than one occasion. This book was actually, maybe, probably written just for me? Lara, please confirm if this is the case.

Rory and Quill are just… mmmmm…*chefskiss*. I especially love that Rory isn’t just some damsel in distress. She’s a damsel. She is often in distress. But she can handle this (yes, that was a Disney Hercules reference I just made, but it fits). And she’s not afraid to talk to Quill openly and honestly and to call him out when he’s being evasive, which I LOVE!

And Quill. Serious, protective, sexy Quill. We love him for all of his devotion and admiration of Rory, but we also also love him for his willingness to trust Rory and for his love of his kindred.

While this is technically a standalone, Lara said there will be a second book within this universe/characters, and I can’t wait to see whose story is told next (fingers crossed for Carver)!

Anyway, I’ll just be over here daydreaming about some of these quotes, but especially, “I choose you, now and every life hereafter.” I am obsessed with these two. 🥺

Thank you to the author, Lara Buckheit, for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was a 5 star read for me, and I need a physical copy to hold in my hands and reread again and again. I highly recommend for all of my supernatural romance book lovers!

P.S. It comes out on Tuesday, March 19th, 2024!

Thank you to Lara Buckheit for providing this ARC!

I loved this author's debut novel and she has hit it out of the park again! Our Immortal Hearts isn't your typical vampire romance. It's got plenty of intrigue and monster politics woven into a fated mates romance with a hot vampire MMC and a death-defying FMC.

As always, Lara's characters are messy and complex without being overly complicated. The pacing is quicker than typical fantasy reads, which I actually love because sometimes I feel overwhelmed with the intricate, convoluted world building and slow burn of other fantasy series.

This one is a bit spicier than her first book, but not so much that it takes away from the overarching story. It's very tasteful while still being steamy.

This one stands on its own and there is no cliffhanger, but I am really looking forward to the next book in this series because there are so many different character/creatures with more stories to tell.

Just finished our immortal hearts and it’s good! I enjoyed it. Really simple read and while it’s predictable it feels like a good brain free fantasy with vampires. The world building could have been better but even though there is some violence and some stakes, it doesn’t feel high stakes.
I was worried about it being a fast burn but the author did a really good job at giving us a good reason why it’s a fast burn and it works really well with the characters needs at the moment it happens. It’s instalove but it’s fated mates which again is on par with a good reason for the instalove.
I feel like while the mmc is hot I would have liked him a bit more developed. I also would have liked more info on the side characters but they were all pretty great.
The pacing was good, the story was fun, the spice was a little repetitive but it was okay.

This book was such a fun fast read, it was completely full of vibes and lots of spicy moments that I absolutely loved.

Everything flowed so well the story, characters, romance and spice. The world building was so easy to understand and follow along and there were no slow moments at all it moved at a fast pace.

Rory was such a great character and I felt so much sympathy for her and the situation she was in. The found family was perfect and gave me so many feelings always love how it adds to the story and it really did in this book.

Rory and Quill were just perfect I loved their chemistry as well as the rather hot spicy moments, got to love a hot protective vampire mmc 🫠 🥵

I loved that it was such an exciting book to read and Lara’s writing is absolutely beautiful I can’t wait to read more stories set in this world.

This has to be one of the easiest five stars I’ve given a standalone vampire book! I highly recommend if you’re looking for a really good fun, fast book with the most delicious spice!

Favourite Quote:
”You told me the night we nearly ran away together that I'm free to make my own choices,' I remind him.
'So, this is me making my own goddamned choice. I will not leave you. Not now. Not ever. We are stronger together, safer together, and I did not spurn Death herself for you to walk away from me. I choose you, now and every life hereafter.”

Thank you so much to the author for a arc this is my honest and voluntary review.

What a bloody treat. (Arc Review)

This was everything and more. Vampire books are so hit or miss, for me at least. It's either a blood play smut fest with no plot or it's just a snooooze. Our Immortal Hearts was not a miss. Lara really balances the spice, romance and story so well. The plot kept me intrigued, the romance kept me swooning and the spice was a nice cherry on top. I really enjoyed Lara's writing.

Rory is such a good character. I really felt sympathy for her and her situation. The found family trope really binds everything together and gave me so many feels.

A super solid standalone vampire romance. If there are more stories in this universe I'll def be reading them.

Accepting this as a DNF at 44% and clearing out my currently reading.

Let the record show: I love a fastburn. I adore vampires. However, this was done in such a disappointing way. You can have fastburn and still have exquisite sexual tension, an MMC with ✨ presence ✨, but this was not it. I've read a romantasy where they were fucking from chapter two and it had more buildup and tension than this. It was very show and tell why this woman gave a damn about this man, and relied way too heavily on him going she's my maaaate. (Let the record also show I have zero problems with fated mates - but this was definitely where it was used as a clutch to force the romance).

This will be someone's yum for sure - it actually had some decent plot and worldbuilding, and GASP side characters (the bar is so low) but things kinda just *happened* to the characters and the romantic tension was just not there for me.

NetGalley provided me the opportunity to listen to the audiobook of "Our Immortal Hearts". I was very entertained by this book and easily got wrapped into the story. The storyline was clear and it was easy to like who the author wanted us to like and hate others! I really enjoyed the variety of characters.

Overall I would say the book was pretty simple in the sense of it not diving deep into any kind of description. character description were very minimal which leaves it up to the imagination which definitely has a time and place. I would have also loved to learn more about the powers some of the characters have! I hope there is another book so hopefully it can go deeper into this world! Again I liked this book and it was well worth the time invested to lose myself in it.

Thank you NetGalley for the ALC! 2.5 stars. This book was cute and the plot was interesting. However I thought it was kind of cheesy and the amount of smut caught me off guard. Not a bad thing just it was much spicer than expected. I just didn’t love the insta love, everything felt so rushed. I think it would’ve been better as a slow burn. Also, thought it was a little creepy that the turned vampires are called the Sire’s children. So if another is referring to the vampire’s lover that they turned, their lover is called their child. That was ick to me. The narrator was great.

I knew when I saw Lara posting about her upcoming release Our Immortal Hearts that I had to get myself on the arc list. The blurb, the cover everything screamed at me that I needed this story in my life!
I'd like to say a huge thank you to Lara for providing me the arc.
As always my review is my own opinion

I instantly fell in love with the characters. Rory's upbringing made me ache.
Quill, Quill oh Quill...where do I get one?
The story is fantastically written and the spice oh the spice....it's spicy guys and I'm here for it.

ARC review, no spoilers!!

If you're into vampires, found family, & some good ole fashioned spice...READ THIS BOOK!!!!

I am normally not one to read fantasy books of this caliber (vampires, werewolves, etc) but this caught my eye from the beginning. I was fortunate enough to get on the ARC list and when I tell you I ATE this up.

The story itself is well written and keeps you on the edge from the very beginning. The romance is *chefs kiss* and the ENDING.

I don't want to say too much because I feel like I will accidentally put a spoiler in. Also, it isn't released just yet, so we got to save some mystery ;)

But ADD THIS TO YOUR TBR!! Cannot wait for the series to continue. Fantastic job Lara!!

"Our Immortal Hearts" by Lara Buckheit is a fantastic blend of romance, fantasy, and spice that I devoured as fast as possible. The world-building is rich and easy to follow, with an array of intriguing creatures such as fae, shifters, sirens and vampires (of course). Lara's storytelling keeps the pace fast and exciting, ensuring there's never a dull moment.

Lara did a great job really making me hate Rory's family from the start. The dynamic between our fated mates, the Adelphi's sacrifice (Rory god damn it) and the vampire assassin, adds layers of tension and passion throughout the whole book. Their journey to defy fate and right the wrongs against them is both thrilling and heartwarming. Plus, the smutty romance doesn't hurt and made this a real page-turner. 🥵🥵

Overall, "Our Immortal Hearts" was great, and I am looking forward to seeing what else comes out of this world!
