Danny King was born in Slough, Berkshire, the second son of Michael and Dorothy King. He and his two brothers, Ralph and Robin, lived on the Britwell Estate until 1979, when they moved to Yateley, Hampshire. He attended Yateley School but failed to gain any qualifications before leaving at the age of 16. He stacked shelves for a short stint in the Yateley branch of Somerfield (then Gateway), before working on various building sites as a hod carrier. In 1991 he took an Access course at Farnborough College of Technology, which helped him land a place at The London College of Printing studying journalism. Between 1993 and 2002 he worked on various magazine titles, eventually becoming Editor of the Paul Raymond Publications title Mayfair (magazine). He now writes full-time. In the late 1980s, he was arrested several times and convicted of burglary at Winchester Crown Court and car theft at Camberley Magistrates Court. It is largely due to receiving these convictions that he cites as his reasons for giving education a second go.
Very entertaining. Even while taking the light-hearted, tongue-in-cheek tone characteristic of all Danny King's books, he also manages to make some serious points about the issue.
Це було щось незвичне для мене, але сподобалося! Моменами смішно, моментами задумуєшся, часом просто дивуєшся. Написана легко і жартівливо. Захотілося після цієї книги познайомитися з іншими книгами автора.
I’m not especially knowledgeable about porn, but I’ve always assumed it is manufactured for men who think there is no more to sex than a Brazilian wax and a hard-on. A clichéd view perhaps, but one Danny King’s fictional exposé of the girly porn mag industry disappointingly confirms.
It begins entertainingly enough with Godfrey’s almost endearingly self-deprecating humour. Soon, however, so repetitive is the macho posturing that it reads like a novel-length issue of Loaded until it is just one cliché after another: uniformly sex-mad models (at one point he is set upon by 12 such women); dialogue like pubescent chat; excruciating attempts to debunk feminism; endless nights spent wasted; all rounded off in a finale which transforms Godfrey from sexual ineptitude to stud.
Maybe if I were closer to ladette I’d get it, but if I ever hear the phrase, “take it up the arse”, again I’ll slap whoever utters it.
After the disappoints of the last three books, it was good to get into something funny and entertaining.
This was lad lit at its best with some wonderful laugh out loud moments. "I've seen a badger, but I've never seen a man buy a porn mag".
In fact it reads like the book I would write. It starts with the young godfrey finding a porno mag as a child and starting a life long fixation with porn. So much so that he gets a job as an editor and gets into some scrapes, culminating in him getting fired for doing a public shoot at a tennis court.
Very funny - I instantly ordered another in the series.

I dont know why, but I was expecting this book to be hilarious- maybe it was the reviews.... Or my expectation of brit humor, but somehow, it completely failed. Sometimes, you truly cannot judge a book by its cover :-)
Ugh. I've read three other books by this author that had me in fits of giggles with dark humor. Not so here. Uninspired, boring, of shallow depth, not even a smile never mind a laugh was my experience. He's a talented author but this one just fell flat.
