This was such a deliciously messy forbidden romance.
Penny and Jake had so much history and unresolved tension between them, and I was hooked watching all that resentment slowly shift into something neither of them expected.
Jake was intensely controlling, possessive, and very morally gray, while Penny brought a softer energy that worked surprisingly well against him. Their push-and-pull was easily my favorite part, and the taboo dynamic made every moment between them feel even more charged.
It’s a quick, spicy read with plenty of angst, secrets, and emotional complications. I would have happily spent more time watching their relationship unfold, but I still flew through this one and really enjoyed the journey.
Apparently Neve Nox knows exactly how to serve the kind of forbidden chaos my romance-loving brain. 😆🔥

A quick delicious forbidden romance read between a young woman and ex-stepdad. When Penelope (Penny) finds herself stuck in a rough patch she reluctantly turns to her ex-stepdad for assistance. Only Jacob (Jake) isn't quick to offer help due to their past history. He decides to end up helping her but doesn't plan on making it easy for her as he feels she owes him for the past. This one definitely comes with taboo moments, so check your trigger warnings, but if you enjoy morally gray men, forbidden romance, possessiveness, and lots of spicy tension, this is definitely one to add to your list.

Penny’s (22) life has been one long fallout, and eight years ago she helped set off the explosion that set Jake’s world on fire. Now she’s on her own, out of options, and the last person she ever expected to turn to is the man who still carries the scars of what happened. The tension between them is immediate. It’s not romantic, not tender, but charged with old hurt and the kind of history you can’t outrun.
Jake (40) is controlled, and still furious in ways he doesn’t say out loud. When Penny asks for help, he doesn’t give it freely. He makes a deal that forces her to confront every ounce of guilt she’s been carrying: two weeks under his rules, under his watch, wearing his collar with no room to hide from the past they share. It’s naughty and taboo, which I am here for! Sometimes this trope can be cringey, but Neve handles it in way that feels more risky and forbidden than gross.
Throughout the story you can feel the resentment, regret, and the slow unraveling of what really happened eight years ago. As secrets come out, Jake’s need for revenge softens into something more complicated, more human. It leans into the ache of two people who were broken by the same event and are finally forced to face it together.
It’s angsty, messy, and full of emotional consequences. This is a forbidden romance that digs into guilt, accountability, and the uncomfortable truth that healing doesn’t always look clean. Penny and Jake’s dynamic is intense, taboo, and impossible to look away from.

The main FMC, Penelope/Penny finds herself trapped between a rock and a hard place, and ends up turning to the main MMC (Jacob/Jake) for help. He has serious trust issues where she is concerned (and rightfully so), and has to make a decision - help her, or send her back home.\
What ensues is an angsty, vindictive, controlling attempt to punish Penelope for the actions of her past - Jacob is pretty unlikable to start out, offish with his work colleagues, very guarded. But the reason for that becomes clear, and his actions become easier to understand - seeking to humiliate her as he was humiliated by her and her mother. The question is, can he control himself around her?
Penelope comes across as naive, her actions as a child were driven by her mother, yet it's the same naievty that led here to be in the situation she finds herself. Agreeing to Jacob's conditions was a sign of desperation - but perhaps if she had revealed what she had done to try and minimise the damage she caused to Jacob earlier in the story, she may have saved herself some of the humiliation.
As the story unfolds and more details of the past become clear, so the relationship between the two alters - softens, and the chemistry that has been ever present boils over. The healing process for both of them is messy, uncomfortable, harsh - and may change both their futures for good.

Okay, this book was definitely a what did I just read?! kind of romance, and I mean that in the best way. 😳🔥
Penny’s story had me hooked because of the complicated history between her and Jacob. Eight years after Penny ruined her ex-stepfather’s life, she finds herself needing his help—and Jacob is definitely not about to make it easy for her. He feels like she owes him, and he intends to collect that debt in a way that puts Penny completely under his control.
Jacob is SO morally gray. He’s controlling, intense, possessive, and definitely not the kind of hero you’re supposed to consider a good guy… but somehow that just made him impossible to look away from. The power struggle between him and Penny had so much tension, especially because she doesn’t trust him but still can’t deny the attraction between them.
I really liked the push-and-pull between these two. There’s the forbidden relationship, the age gap, the power imbalance, and plenty of spice. Penny is sweet but not completely helpless, and I liked watching her try to find her footing with a man who clearly wants everything on his terms.
This one definitely comes with some dark and uncomfortable moments, so check your trigger warnings, but if you enjoy morally gray men, forbidden romance, possessiveness, and lots of spicy tension, this is definitely one to add to your list.

I received this as an ARC...and now I'm gonna read the others! Can easily be read as a standalone, like I did, without feeling as though you're missing out.
First of, if you blush easily or if dipping your toes in taboo makes you unhappy, this one isn't for you. It is a very short, spicy read with forced proximity, large age-gap, and a daddy-kink.
Ex-stepdad, revenge/ avenge plot, with a beautiful redemption arc. The FMC's mom had taken the FMC to court with accusations of SA, where she lied in court about his actions. Needless to say, MMC was a little disappointed in their actions and held it against the FMC for going along with it.
Fast forward where the MMC is starting to rebuild his life in a small town, when the FMC shows up unannounced asking for his help. He refuses, snow storm ensues, she wrecks her car and he takes her in. She wants his forgiveness, and a favor - and he makes her earn it over a two-week period. There is a lot story told in a very short time which does break up smut, but with so much information it didn't really allow for character development. The plot just felt like a side story to all the physical intimacy (no judgment here, just an observation!)
Spoiler alert - While she 'earns' his trust back, she falls for him and his praise. He falls for her while making her call him daddy.

This story had me hooked from the beginning and i couldn’t wait to figure out what Penny did. There’s a very complex history btw Penny and Jake. I loved push pull between them.
The tension was soo good and the wanting but not wanting felt really realistic. A few times a visibly shuttered at what I was reading but I couldn’t look away. If you like taboo and forbidden relationship this is for you. It is a little slow burn to start but once it gets going 🔥🥵🥰 I loved it and only wish there was an epilogue into their future.

Now she just has to convince him of her remorse and of helping her. Luckily Jackson knows just how he wants her to show him she feels sorry. They have lots of chemistry but also lots of reasons they shouldn't act on it, of course that only made it way hotter when they finally did 😉
I had a great time reading about their conflicted (not for long) feelings and steamy tension between them.
It's part of a series but it can definitely be read as a standalone.

Under his control was an absolutely amazing book. This is book 3 in the his to claim series by Neve Nox.
What originally drew me to this book alone was it said it morally gray forbidden age Gap plus it's an FM Romance so yeah your girls hooked.
The characters were absolutely phenomenal I loved everything about this book it was just one of those books you read and you're like dang.
I personally have went back and read the first two in the series as well just to kind of get an idea and let me tell you they are just as amazing. Neve Nox is a new author to me and let me tell you something I am addicted already because fm romances and morally grey forbidden men are my thang!!

This is the first book I’ve ever read by Neve Nox, and it definitely won’t be my last! This book had everything I could ask for. The push and pull between the MMC and FMC was outstanding, and I absolutely loved the drama, the spice, and all the emotions packed into their story.
Penny and Jake’s relationship was amazing to watch unfold, especially seeing how they worked through betrayal and found a way to grow together. Their connection developed so beautifully throughout the book, and I was completely invested in their journey.

I devoured Jacob and Penny's story.
The plot was captivating. I also love stepfather, age gap, and enemies to lovers tropes.
Talk about tension and chemistry being off the charts between those two.
This book had a bit of revenge, secrets, drama, a few emotional moments, and spice.
In the beginning, there was definitely anger and resentment. Throughout, the story we see that change into something more. I really enjoyed how their relationship evolved. Plus all that banter and tension made it even better when they both finally gave in.
All in all, I think it was a great book!

This book is not what I was expecting - it was even better! The storyline is based on Jacob who was married to Penny's mum but due to an event that occurred years ago, all contact was cut between them.
But one day Penny seeks out Jacob for his help and he wants to help Penny but he doesn't. There is a pull - push between the two of them until one day it comes to a head.
What happens to them? Do they finally sort out their issues or do they walk away from each other??? This is a book that you need on your reading list 📚

I had such a hard time putting this book down! Adulting became very difficult lol.
The dynamic between Penelope and Jacob was intense. So much trauma in their past and all the hurt they both held led to such a roller coaster of emotions while reading their story.
While I get where Jacob came from in regards to Penelope coming to him to help her out, I think he placed too much blame on her as a child doing what their only parent asked of them, even if it was the wrong thing to do. In the end, she was the whole reason he never went down for the accusation.
I felt for Penelope. She got the short stick in too many situations just trying to earn love from someone incapable of giving it and to find a speck of peace and happiness. Even when she felt she was finding it with Jacob, something came along and ruined it.
Im glad they were able to work things out to be together. Hopefully, we get Ruth's story soon!

ARC review :) omg I was obsessed with this book! The tension was soo good and the wanting but not wanting felt really believable.
Our fmc reaches back out to her former step dad after her mom leaves her a big debt and after an accident leaves her stranded with him things start happening.
I really liked this book and once the spice gets going, woo 🥵 if you like taboo and want something quick and fun this is it!

Under His Control is wildly inappropriate and completely captivating from start to finish. The taboo dynamic is handled with finesse, blending age‑gap tension, a morally gray mmc, and a power‑imbalanced relationship. I usually struggle with the “Daddy” element, but in this story it worked perfectly.

Slow burn, but still spicy. The taboo hits early, and it adds to the spicy draw, but the love and actual action takes longer. Loads of build up, and back and forth, but they do eventually find their way. He fights his attraction hard but is the first to fall. Decent plot, heavy on forbidden elements. A good quick read.

Morally gray MMC, forbidden romance with his ex step daughter who ruined his life. Yes please, this book was dark, twisted, spicy and possessive. I really enjoyed it.
