I'm so glad I gave this a chance because I ended up really enjoying this. It's a really good Post Apocalyptic read and one I hope will become better as the series progresses.

This focuses on the aftermath of an EMP that happened without warning. We see what it's like to try to survive in a world gone mad. I always enjoy a Post Apocalyptic story like this because I find that this is something that could happen! It's scary to think about really!!

Plot wise this is relatively fast paced. The EMP happens within the first few paragraphs and what follows is, an often time, scary look at what it could be like. I thought the author did a great job of describing what happened and did his research when it comes to EMPs.

Character wise, while there are a few different POVs in the book, it isn't hard to follow who was talking. The book follows Thomas and his quest to collect his daughter. Along the way he meets a policeman (whos POV is part of the story) and his nurse wife, a homeless man who is ex military (who accompanies Thomas), and a few other people. Each of the characters have their own story which comes together to create the whole! I loved seeing the different POVs and thought that it added more to the overall feel of the book.

In all this was an enjoyable listen. I started it and couldn't take out my earplugs because I needed to see what would happen next. It's a fast paced and thrilling read and I am looking forward to more from these characters.

Mitchell Lucas did a great job with this. He gave subtle changes to his tone for each character which came across really well. He was easy to listen to and read well. I'm glad he didn't try to do a girls voice because often times when a male narrator does try, it comes across as weird!! Not so with Mitchell, he gave just enough of a change to know that it's a female that was talking at the time.

Title: BREAKDOWN: Season One

Author: Jordan Quattlebaum

Type of Book: Audiobook - Unabridged

Narrator: Mitchell Lucas

Length: 5 hours and 5 minutes

Genre: Post-Apocalyptic Fiction

Release Date: July 24, 2015

Publisher: Jordan Quattlebaum

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book is a post-apocalyptic serial. This audiobook contains episodes 1 to 5.

The best thing about this series is that the characters are regular people.

Thomas Monroe's life is a mess. He lost his wife and has never been the same. He tries not to let his daughter see just how messed up he is, but even though she is away at college, she knows.

On his way to work at a low-paying, but emotionally satisfying job he gets a phone call from a prior client who is in the military. The call is a warning of impending chaos.

Obviously Thom has no idea what to make of the phone call and when his car breaks down, the call is pushed to the back of his mind. He's having a bad day and he figures that it can't get any worse.

Wow! Was he wrong!

The United States is hit by what appears to be an electromagnetic pulse, knocking the power grid almost completely offline. This means that anything that runs on electricity or is computer-based will no longer work. This includes every vehicle made in the last twenty years.

Millions will die in the coming weeks and most of the country, including Thom is completely unprepared. Worst of all, his daughter's college is located halfway across the state. She is all he has left and he has to get to her.

But, the roads, cities and towns between have quickly devolved into terrifying warzone a.

Listen to this suspenseful audiobook to follow along with Thom as he makes friends, outwits thugs, battles bandits, and struggles across the state to attempt to reunite with his daughter.

Can an everyday, broken man survive the apocalypse?

"Breakdown is a serial adventure. Think of it like listening to your favorite TV show, with a new episode released every three to four weeks. These episodes are not stand-alone books. Each season will be a stand-alone book containing to four to five episodes."

I was completely sucked into this story from the first few minutes of this audiobook. The characters are easy to relate to and it is easy to imagine yourself in Thom's shoes. It brings to mind questions as to how you would react to each scenario that Thom must face on his quest to reach his daughter. As a parent, I can relate to his need to reach his child and his willingness to do whatever it takes to get to her.

The narration is terrific. Pacing is perfect. Voices are realistic and easily distinguishable from one another. Mitchell Lucas does an outstanding job of conveying emotions and urgency. The narration alone deserves a 5 star rating. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Overall, the only thing about this audiobook that I did not like was that it had to end. I will be eagerly awaiting the release of the audiobook of BREAKDOWN: Season Two.

I give BREAKDOWN: Season One a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Audio version
"This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of AudiobookBlast dot com."

The story was an EMP apocalypse (as opposed to zombies or nuclear war). It seemed like the details as far as what would survive an EMP and what would not, were correct. The author also showed the effects on different populations The two main characters are a middle aged widower and his daughter, a first year college student. The disaster is shown primarily through their eyes and a few other characters.

I liked the main character. I liked the fact that he was not an ex-seal alpha male type. He was an ordinary joe trying to survive long enough to find his daughter and keep her safe. I wasn’t as wild about the daughter. Granted she had lost her mother recently but she seemed too mature and forward thinking for a first year college student. She is the one who realizes the food fight in the cafeteria is destroying food they will need in days to come. And then she stands up to all the other students and puts a stop to it. She is definitely more mature than I was at that age. So she was not as believable a character as her father was.

I liked Mr. Lucas’s voice. It was different than other narrators in a way that is hard to quantify. Probably the best I can express the difference is he sounded like a regular guy, which the main character is, so good job narrator! I really appreciated that he did not do a falsetto for the female voices. By subtle changes in tone, accents and speech patterns Mr. Lucas did a very good job of representing each character, no matter what gender or age. The accents he did were also very believable.

The production values were good for the most part. When the narrator raises his voice, for example when the serviceman calls the main character to warn him that something is going to happen, the sound quality is not as good. I know it is very hard to create raised voices and still keep that audio and the regular level audio on a good level. Other than raised voices, I thought the production values were good.

My attention was not absolutely riveted. I enjoyed the book but it did not keep me awake wanting to continue listening to it. I would still recommend Breakdown Season 1 to any disaster or post apocalypse fans. It looks like Season 1 is just the start of what may be a much longer series. I would suggest that Mr. Lucas be retained as the narrator because he really gave the main character a believable voice.

Breakdown Season One

I wish the book were whole and complete. I love that it takes place somewhere I have actually lived. The characters are mostly developed, they could use a little more backstory. The only other complaint I would have is the editing. Wrong words in sentences, and some grammar issues. The story line is other wise engaging and fast paced, and carries scenarios some other post apocalyptic stories have neglected. For that alone I look forward to the next installment.

I LOVED this book and can't wait for 'season 2'!Mitchell Lucas does a wonderful job with a myriad of character voices. He brings everyone to life.A bad day for Tom turns in to a REALLY bad day when after he hits a deer, his car is hit by another car and then the world turns upside down. This is an apocolyptic book with a twist.Tom has no idea how to survive in this world. He meets a lot of good people but also some bad. It's quite an adventure. This audiobook was provided to me at no cost for a fair and honest review

The action is quick, the pace is lively, each episode ending with a "and now what?" vibe so you're ready for the next one. I'm on the fence about whether I will start getting the serials or wait until the next "bulk" one comes out. I'm not too good with ongoing series. I'm a binge - er. But this is definitely on my list to keep following.

Actually a group of characters I could believe in

I am a binge reader . My binge lately has been these apocalyptic type books . Most of them are filled with gung ho people that I have never met, nor can I really relate too. What is so great about these books is that they are well-written with very few typos. I will continue to read the series.

I'm so used to reading funny post-apocalyptic books, that it took about 3 episodes before I settled into realistic reading mode, and it was surprisingly pleasant. It made me think about human nature and what would play out if all electricity really did blink out while leaving everything else intact. And believe it or not, it's not dark - perfect for holiday reading!

Excellent story of an every man forced to deal with the end of society. What sets this novel apart from other "Post fall" stories is the main character who is not a prepper or possesses amazing skills to deal with the situation. We follow him through his mistakes, setbacks and adaptations. Mr. Quattlebaum's prose draws you in and makes you apart of the story. You walk along side of the characters and feel both their pain and their joys. It is immersive and flowing in style.
I highly highly recommend this book!

A really good story...

I enjoyed this book immensely. The characters were believable and the storyline was great. My one big problem is that the next several books aren't books- they're barely even long enough to be chapters, which means that instead of waiting between books, we're left waiting between CHAPTERS! Rather uncool.

Excellent !

Well paced, glad I was able to read all five first episodes in a row. Looking forward to episodes six through eleven. Danger, twists and turns, sorrow and victories.

I'm only 5% in and I can't stand the 1st two people in the book. The dialogue is lame and the ad listens to Christian rock. Need I say more.
