Panama. The most ruthless killer on two continents assassinates the American first lady. The authorities hunt him down and take him. Now the real action begins.
Two competing terror groups not only take credit for the kill, but demand the assassin's release. One group threatens the beheadings of American hostages. The other has the power to destroy Panama's canal. For the cops, it's a no-win situation.
This was a different style than The Toppled Cross. I liked the new protagonist, the mix of journalists and law enforcement. I loved having a female Secret Service agent at the center of the tale! Bruce is a good write, and I'm enjoying the journey as he tries out different approaches to his writing. The only negative thing I found, and it was really just a minor, personal irritation, was the foreshadowing he did at the end of several chapters. It's a technique I find distracting as it brings me out of the tale and makes me feel like I'm on the outside looking in. Even Dan Brown does that, but I can't believe he gets away with it.
