as someone who plays piano myself, I was SO excited for this one. Music, tension, a slow burn?! HELLO??? I was ready to be absolutely destroyedddd. and because i’m a piano geek who listens to instrumental music ALL THE TIME, i listened to every single song on the playlist 😌
Now, I will admit that the bad boy x good girl trope and I don’t always get along😂 Julian was a PERFECT example of why SMH. This boy had me wanting to literally shake him by the shoulders because why are we being so unnecessarily RUDE to the girl we’re apparently obsessed with??? Wanting her attention is not an excuse to bully her sir 🤚🏼 GROW UP. Meanwhile, Ellise is trying to keep herself afloat under the weight of her own expectations while dealing with chronic pain, and I just wanted to wrap her up in a blanket and give her a break. My girl was carrying SO MUCH 🥺
BUT. BUTTTT. Watching these two slowly warm up to each other was everything. Once Julian’s cruelty started giving way to actual understanding, their back-and-forth became so much more enjoyable. (for those who want more intense bad boy/good girl this one doesn't really give that. it ends about halfway through)
I was genuinely waiting for Ellise to snap, and the fact that Julian seemed to want her to finally let everything out and be her true self... YES. Learning more about his grief and home life helped me understand him, and his apology definitely softened me toward him. I still believe pain doesn’t give you permission to hurt other people, but seeing the softer person underneath all that armor? I did feel better 🙂↕️
AND CARMELA. 😭 Her kindness and the way she adored Julian, becoming that motherly presence in his life after he lost his own, absolutely melted me. I also loved Maddie’s no-nonsense friendship with Ellise!! She supported her without making everything complicated, and we LOVE a girl who shows up for her friends.
One of my favorite parts was watching Ellise realize that perfection is a trap. She didn't have to live her entire life according to what she thinks her late father would expect of her. She’s allowed to want things for herself, choose her own future, and actually LIVE instead of constantly trying to be perfect. Watching both of them lower their walls, recognize their similarities in grief, and finally let themselves fall made my heart so happy. & Julian being an absolute softie underneath that hard exterior had me GIGGLINGGGG LOLLL
overall, this was such a fun, easy read that gave me music, emotional character growth, and a romance that grew on me more and more as the walls came down 🙂↕️
And to think it all started with a ribbon 🥹 5 ⭐️, and I NEED Josh and Maddie’s book next. Those little fashionistas better be coming our way!!

I'm in love with the premise of musical university that Corinne has setup in her new debut book!! I personally don't have much depth knowledge about music, while reading this is felt pure magical
—🎶They both as couple were very cute! He fell first and she sees the real him. They supported each other.
—🎶The book matched the vibe of music so well!! Felt so so musical. Proper statements for musical notes. So overall i really enjoyed the musical world the author created.
—🎶The book started out so strong! The tension was so thick, their chemistry felt almost electric. I was convienced that it is gonna be 4-5 stars. But once the tension snapped, the things went very lovey-dovey for my taste. And the plot went flat so quickly.
—🎶I wanted some more forbidden romance element between them as rich boy / poor girl dynamic. Also things with his father was packed up pretty quickly.
—🎶 this might sound silly but i cringed the way they kept having unprotected s*x. Also those scenes started so intense and descriptive, only to end with one sentence like "and then we unraveled each other's world all night" , i always what that's it!?
So overall given that it is a debut novel, i had enough fun.

As a piano player, give me musical tension and a slow-burn romance, and I’m already sold!
Ellise and Julian had me hooked with their constant bickering, and I may have wanted to shake Julian a few times for how he treated her. Thankfully, watching his walls come down made their relationship so much more rewarding.
Ellise broke my heart a little with how much pressure she put on herself, especially while dealing with chronic pain. I loved seeing her learn that she didn’t have to be perfect all the time. Julian’s grief and the softer side he slowly revealed helped me understand him better, and this man was clearly DOWN BAD. Their shift from rivals to each other’s safe place was easily one of my favorite parts!
The music added so much to the story, and of course, I listened to every song on the playlist! I also adored Carmela’s kindness and Maddie’s ride-or-die friendship with Ellise.
The character growth, simmering chemistry, and those quieter moments where they finally let each other in, this was a thoroughly enjoyable romance.

Jillian is your typical rich bad boy, bends to rules, broods about everything and acts like he could care less about what’s happening around him. What’s even more irritating is he is perfect, the perfect pianist.
A year of irritating each other, Julian finally has Ellise lose her cool. The outcome of her freak out - they must play a duet at the Spring Showcase.
Months of late nights, long hours practicing their duet in a small practice room leads to opening up about each other’s losses and grief, what playing music means to them, dropping their masks - Julian with not hiding how he truly feels about everything and Ellise with her hypermobility pains. The tension between them goes from musical rivals to each other’s safe place. The comfortability they feel with each other, how they help each other when it comes to being true to themselves. Their relationship alters from rivals to friends/lovers, the vulnerable moments they share with each other are as intense as their intimate moments together.

Love & Notes is a slow paced story of denial of feelings, simmering chemistry, palpable tension, and a beautiful love story formed through their shared grief and shedding of their walls.
Ellise Vance is a scholarship student in one of the best musical schools, Belrose University. She is a soloist, specialised in playing violin. The Golden Girl of Belrose, always so perfect, never a hair out of order, just as extraordinary in performance as in academics. Not a single crack in her golden girl persona.
Until Julian Thorne waltz in.
He is everything opposite to what defines Ellise.
He's rich, infuriating, arrogant with a dry sense of humor, an indisciplined prodigy with a natural talent for piano. She hates everything that defines him but there's a teeny bit problem. She is fascinated by him and he hates her just the same for he cannot get her out of his head.
So when their rivalry sparks a dispute in a class they're forced to perform together, make their musical worlds collide.
The book has an amazing build-up pace. You can practically feel the tension between the characters exuding from the pages from the constant push and pull between them. The most beautiful part of this book was them letting go of their walls for each other. Their love felt like a bud blooming into a flower.
This book is not just contemporary romance. It also touches deeply on the topics of cancer, off page death of a parent, hypermobility, parental abandonment and abuse. Please, make sure to check for the trigger warnings!
Overall this was a fun read, I can't wait to read the upcoming books in the Belrose University series!!!

Julian and Ellise come from very different worlds and upbringings, but both are incredibly gifted musicians. She’s the school’s golden girl who feels everything so deeply. He’s a beautiful, broody, rule-breaking pianist with a tortured soul… which always gets me. 🥹 They hate each other… but do they really? 🤭
I loved watching their relationship shift from rivals to friends to lovers, and eventually become each other’s safe space. They’ve both experienced loss, and seeing them open up, connect, and help each other heal was so beautiful. Their vulnerable moments were just as powerful as the steamy ones. And this man falls SO hard for her… 🥰
I also really appreciated how Corinne approached Ellise’s hypermobility, showing how it affected her musical performances, everyday life, and intimate moments.

I absolutely loved getting to know the characters and I related to Ellise so much. The music and disability aspects were so beautifully woven through it felt like you could hear and feel exactly what the characters were going through. I absolutely loved this. Read it in one sitting. It follows our golden girl Ellise, a rule-following violinist. And Jillian is our rich bad boy, who likes to bend to the rules, is brooding 24/7 over everything and acts like he doesn’t care about anything at all around him. But he does play the piano absolutely perfectly.
After a year of Jillian irritating Elise and Ellise giving back as good as she can, she freaks out and that’s how they end up playing a duet for the spring showcase.
Spending more time together and late nights working on their duet you see them opening up to each other and the bond really starting to open up. It’s such a beautiful moment. They slip from musical rivals to being each other’s person.

I loved this book!! Here we follow Ellise and Julian, both music prodigies, part of the Belrose Academy - a music uni 🥹 they're kinda rivals, and an altercation leads to them being forced to work together on performing a piece. The forced proximity, slow burn, and rivals-to-lovers was just CHEF'S KISSS❤️

Okay, this was a really fun debut novel. The setting of the story was intriguing, and I think I can add academic rivals to my "love" list.
The story deals with various elements that make it interesting to read: losing a parent and the grief that comes with it, rich guy/poor girl, chronic illness, unhealthy coping mechanisms, and music.
The first chapter got me hooked and set the tone of the relationship between the FMC and MMC perfectly.
“As the tears finally threaten to spill, I realize with a cold and clarifying certainty that I do not just dislike this guy, Thorne. I detest the very air he breathes.” My girl Ellise 😭🫡
I do have a list of things that left me with mixed feelings.
Character details: I would have loved for the chronic illness to be integrated more into the story, like a proper routine on a bad day and how her love interest can help her. Now it felt like they explained it too little.
Unresolved arcs: The relationship between Julian and his dad. I was hoping for more emotional depth the further we got into the story. What do you mean he wasn't always like that? I kind of hoped for a redemption arc or maybe more than just the phone call.
The pacing and romance: I LOVED the tension of the first chapter. It seemed to move along quickly once they got romantically involved. Sure, he denied it to his friends for such a long time while trying to save her mom 's bookstore (like, sure man, not in love, not at all).
I couldn't decide on a spice rating. The foreplay was explicit, and it faded to black. It felt like they slammed the door in my face.
Also, WHAT DO YOU MEAN NO PROTECTION???
I appreciate the author throwing in a line of "I'm on birth control, I got tested, I wanna feel you." But there was none. I also feel like it would have been nice to have a more intimate conversation about intimacy with chronic pain (I don't know if I phrased that correctly).
I love the premise and am definitely looking forward to future books in the series as the author grows and refines their writing!

Ellise has spent so much of her life trying to meet expectations that she struggles to give herself permission to be anything less than perfect. I appreciated how her journey explores the pressure of constantly proving your worth, especially when your own body doesn't always cooperate with your ambitions. Her experience with chronic pain and hypermobility added another layer to her character, showing how much strength it takes to pursue a dream while learning to listen to yourself.
Julian initially comes across as someone who hides behind arrogance and indifference. However, as his layers slowly unfold, there's so much more beneath that carefully constructed exterior. His grief and complicated family relationships helped me understand his behavior, even though being hurt doesn't justify hurting others. Watching him learn to be vulnerable and show his true self made his character development especially satisfying.
What I loved most was how music became more than just a shared passion. It gave these two a way to understand each other when words weren't enough. Their relationship gradually transforms from frustration and rivalry into a connection where they can let their guards down, embrace their imperfections, and feel understood.

A FMC that is and uptight perfectionist who knows she is damn good. A MMC who wears a facade of indifference, maintaining a carefully constructed air of IDGAF...until he meets her. Set a Belrose Academy - a school of music where both our characters are completing a Master's Degree.
Belrose's small campus means all the students know each other, and when Ellise messes up in front of everyone and Julian mocks her, the instant hate is palpable. A year of mockery (Julian to Ellise) and seething anger (Ellise to Julian) builds between until he pushes her too far, and her resulting outburst lands them in a mandatory duet for the spring recital. Forced proximity? Check. Long nights in the practice room revealing just how fragile their "hatred" really is? Check. An absolutely believable snap of sexual tension that leads to lingering tastes and inability to forget "that sound she makes"? Check.
Overall, this story was cute and hit all of my favorite tropes in a delightful way. The dual narration is done well and we see him fall first and hard. We see her fight it, but ultimately open up to him and let herself realize what she truly wants. I liked how the relationship developed - it wasn't all at once and it wasn't overly dragged out. Just enough slow burn and just enough indulgence to seem realistic. It wasn't instantly perfect but it wasn't toxic and dramatic.
The friends of each our MCs are also well developed and interesting; realistic and supportive without being distracting to the main plot line. Since this is meant to be a series, I am excited to see whose story gets told next.
The author does an excellent job depicting how hyper-mobility can be agonizing and debilitating and the steps those with it have to take to endure their day-to-day.
My criticism? Some scenes/parts needed more development - I needed to know more about what happened between Julian and his father, for example. A little more detail about the year leading up to their forced duet would have been good fodder for their back story as well. Overall, I loved it. I was lucky to be chosen as an ARC, but will be purchasing a copy and recommending this book to others support this author. I am excited to see what comes next.

A FMC that is and uptight perfectionist who knows she is damn good. A MMC who wears a facade of indifference, maintaining a carefully constructed air of IDGAF...until he meets her. Set a Belrose Academy - a school of music where both our characters are completing a Master's Degree.
Belrose's small campus means all the students know each other, and when Ellise messes up in front of everyone and Julian mocks her, the instant hate is palpable. A year of mockery (Julian to Ellise) and seething anger (Ellise to Julian) builds between until he pushes her too far, and her resulting outburst lands them in a mandatory duet for the spring recital. Forced proximity? Check. Long nights in the practice room revealing just how fragile their "hatred" really is? Check. An absolutely believable snap of sexual tension that leads to lingering tastes and inability to forget "that sound she makes"? Check.

Just me over here wishing I could play the violin or be musically inclined in anyway. I did try… my Mom can play anything with keys and her brother, my uncle can play anything with stings. He tried to teach me to play the violin (I still have it) but I was horrible…. Same with the piano… my dyslexia definitely didn’t help nor did my lack of rhythm.
I really couldn’t put this one down. If I hadn’t been buying a car in another city… I would have definitely finished it in one go. It is a fast but really enjoyable read!
Another academy I would love to attend… Belrose. Prestigious Arts College full of money and a campus to drool over. Julian & Ellise’s love story is full of great nicknames, heated conversations and witty banter. All things I love in a romance.
Watching them go from enemies to friends to falling in love… chefs kiss.
The highlight for me was learning about hypermobility. As a mom with disabilities and two children with disabilities it’s always nice to see representation that natural flows with the storyline.

Where do I even start with this one?? Oh, I know… two words: Julian. Thorne. 😭
He was EVERYTHING I want in an MMC and more. He was broody and grumpy with that hard exterior and a warm, gooey center, and I ate. 👏🏻 It. 👏🏻 Up. 👏🏻
And Ellise?? I absolutely loved her. Watching her learn to let go of the perfection she had built her entire life around was so beautiful. From the outside, she is the picture of a perfect musician. She is technically correct, precise, and seemingly flawless. But technical perfection and feeling are two completely different things.
I loved watching her learn to actually feel the music because of Julian. He opens doors for her that she had kept closed to herself for so long, and watching her discover that part of herself was one of my favorite things about this story.
I also really appreciated that the book explores Ellise’s struggle with hypermobility, something I rarely see talked about in books. I loved the way her story touches on the importance of listening to your body, giving yourself permission to rest, and remembering that taking care of yourself doesn’t mean you have to give up on the dreams you’re chasing. 🥹
This book was absolutely everything I needed it to be and more. I personally grew up playing classical music on the clarinet, so music has always held a very special place in my heart. Corinne did something with this story that I’ve never seen before, and she did it phenomenally.
The romance was EVERYTHING. The music was beautiful. 🎻 And I highly recommend listening to the pieces mentioned throughout the book while you read because it adds such a beautiful layer to the story.
This book reopened a piece of my heart that I haven’t explored in a really long time, and I’m so grateful for that.

This story was so good and so well-written. We’re captivated from the beginning and taken on an amazing ride through Ellise and Julian’s POV. I loved the tension, even though I was screaming for them to bang already, the hilarious banter, cool world-building and character development. It def made me tear up some moments as E+J worked through their family grief. And Julian is one hot man 🤤
What I especially loved was this book brought me back to my classical piano days. I played from when I was 8 up until HS and also did competitions. Even though those were stressful days, this story brought back the fun memories tied to learning piano.

The story follows Ellise, a talented pianist, and Julian, a gifted violinist, as they navigate life, music, and each other at Belrose Academy. What starts with plenty of tension slowly turns into something much deeper as they discover the trauma, grief, and pain hiding underneath each other’s walls. I really loved watching Ellise and Julian slowly open up and become someone the other could lean on. Their connection felt emotional, complicated, romantic, and healing, and I loved how music became such an important part of their bond. Julian definitely stole my heart, especially when he admitted, “I’m a little obsessed with you.”🥹❤️ The chemistry, tension, and spicy moments were definitely a fun bonus too! I also loved the dedication: “Music has a way of finding the words when we cannot. You are not alone.” That really felt like the heart of this book. I never thought there was such a thing as a bad boy pianist but Julian definitely proved me wrong. He’s awful in the beginning and quite childish. He took a little while to warm up to but thankfully as we get to know him and their relationship progressed we get to see a better side of him.
I enjoyed the rivalry between Julian and Ellise. They are complete opposites of each other but the tension is thick and the chemistry electric. I’m glad that we got dual point of view and loved the character progression.
I really enjoyed the Hypermobility representation. This isn’t something you see very often in books and it’s actually something we’re currently getting investigated for my daughter, so it was nice to be able to read about it and see how it affected Ellise.
Belrose Academy was a great setting and I loved the musical vibes. I loved that the author added both a classical and a pop playlist too.
Overall, I really enjoyed this story. It’s emotional, beautifully written and easy to read.

Ellise and Julian are both wanting to make parents that they lost to soon proud. Ellise is doing so by trying to be the best violinist at Belrose academy. Julian is trying to honor the love of piano music inspired by his mother within the rigid expectations of his father and the school. This was the first book in a loooong time where I finished it in under two days! I was hooked from the very beginning, resonating with Elise's need for perfection and the anxiety that comes with trying to be perfect all the time. The slow burn was done so perfectly well that I was actually getting frustrated because just when I thought they were finally going to give in, there was a pull away. The ending did seem to drag on a bit longer than it really needed to but I'm never going to turn away a true HEA instead of a predictable one that comes after a heartache of some sort. Overall, I absolutely loved this book, the imagery painted by the author, and a love story that comes from a punishment.

I really liked this book. It was different from what I’ve been reading lately. Ellise is Violinist with a scholarship to Belrose Academy and Julian is the rich pianist that doesn’t have to worry about anything attending the same school. He loves to torment Ellise and of course she finally snaps and they are forced to work with each other on a piece for school. I loved this story and how it dealt with Ellise’s physical problems she was having. I thought the author didn’t make her physical alignments all that she was but just something she was facing. Julian being the bad boy, but is he really?? Why is he the way he is?? I love how they get down to what their back stories are and how it molded them into who they are but how they fall for each other. This was a sweet story with the right amount of spice. It’s a definite read and one to add to your TBR for the season.

I was so excited to be chosen to read Love and Notes before it hit stores, and let me just say I was not disappointed! Corinne Edial did a fantastic job with the scene descriptions, dialogue, and characters’ inner thoughts. I loved it! I finished it in just one day, and it’s still all I can think about.
