Ultimate Deception

Rate this book
In a matter of months, Dani Delaney's world drastically changed. Now, she faces the toughest challenge of her life and is determined to handle it on her own.

Detective Sawyer Woods will do anything to be with Dani, the woman he's dreamed about since he first laid eyes on her, but she'll have nothing to do with him, no matter how much charm he uses.

It isn't until Dani receives threatening messages and criminal activities happen around town that she's forced to accept the help of the one man who can bring her to her knees. Can Sawyer protect the one woman who doesn't want him and convince her to give him a shot? Or can one lie destroy it all?

***Note from author*****

It is highly recommended that the Harden Series be read in order. Each book focuses on a new couple, but there is overlap between all stories.

When I read book one Fatal Obsession I thought it was a brilliant debut novel and that the author would have a hard job beating it. Well Lynn Stookes rocked it with this story.

This is Dani and Sawyers story. We met them in book one. It's a fast paced story that kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't read this story fast enough. The twists and turns were unpredictable and brilliant. I loved the secondary characters and look forward to reading more about them in the future.

Favorite Quotes:

“Just the sight of him with a small child could make any woman’s biological clock start ticking, including mine.”

“What I wouldn’t give to kiss those lips again, but she’d probably have my balls in a vice grip within seconds and I’m particularly fond of them, so I resist the urge.”

“I don’t want to be used for sex. Said no guy ever. Why did I push her away? Idiot.”

“Only a detective and a medical examiner could get hot and heavy with a dead body at their feet.”

“Sawyer is charming on a bad day, but on a good day, he knocks me off my axis, making my world spin out of control.”

My Review:

While Ms. Stookes’ Blake is still my current BBF, her Sawyer is a strong heart throb. Her suspenseful romantic drama of Ultimate Deception contains compelling and unexpected twists and turns as well as many of the desirable elements that I look for in a good book; handsome and sweet heroes, clever humor, steamy sensual scenes, and a complicated and intriguing mystery. Although unfortunately, she also employed most of my least favorite tropes as well, unplanned pregnancy, lying to the father about said pregnancy, denial of true feelings and heinous behavior and arguments towards the poor fool, angsty dithering, arg! Despite enjoying the intriguing plot and most of the other characters, I was annoyed with the female lead through much of the book, although I was invested in the story enough to continue reading, and I am so glad I did. I was blown away with the last few chapters as I never saw it coming. One of my favorite scenes of all time was Kylie's reaction to a surprise upon her arrival after the big shoot-out - the best ever and well worth my earlier discomfort.

Oh, my God, Sawyer Woods... Lynn Stookes's Harden series just keeps getting better and better! Lynn Stookes is absolutely brilliant in this installment. Her writing was the perfect blend of humor, anger, and, of course, betrayal. All of the emotions come into play as she weaves her tale so brilliantly that you struggle to pull yourself from the novel. As with the first book, I was glued to my Kindle screen, unable to look away. I can't rave about this as much as I would like because I fear giving too much of the brilliant, mind-blowing plot away. Let me just say that you'll never see it coming, until it hits you smack in the face. I thoroughly enjoyed this tale and cannot wait for the next installment in the Harden series. Sawyer Woods is my new favorite Harden boy...until Tristan's book, of course! In the meantime, Sawyer will more than do! Firstly, though, this is a series, and while they CAN standalone, they SHOULDN'T! Fatal Obsession should be read first. That is where Sawyer and Dani's story is first hinted at, and everything will make a lot more sense.

Favorite Quotes:

"I didn’t think I’d have to explain the birds and the bees to you, man, but I will if I have to. When a boy gets excited, he gets a happy stick and puts it in a girl’s..."

"Are you manning up or pussying out?"

"Sawyer, man. Remember don’t taunt the bear."

"Now that we’re in agreement that Duncan deserves to have his ass kicked, Sawyer is a dumb ass, and I’m the most handsome,” Blake injects. “How about you tell us what you know?”

This is the second book in the Harden series, Dani and Sawyer's story.

Book 2 picks up shortly after book 1 ended. Dani is now trying to raise her niece, work as the county medical examiner and adjust to life after the death of her twin brother, the stalking of her best friend (and SIL), and her one night with Sawyer.

Sawyer is struggling with his feelings for Dani. After everything that went down, he's still reeling from that one night. His past, as a total manwhore, is working against him when it comes to Dani.

While trying to help Dani get custody of her niece, he puts his foot in his mouth to the social worker and now everyone has to believe that he and Dani are in a relationship and living together.

I adored Sawyer. He was doing everything he could to protect Dani and Lily. Now, their lives are in danger and he has to figure out who is out to hurt his girls.

Dani has secrets and those secrets may be what is threatening her life. She refuses to be a victim, yet it quickly becomes clear that she needs Sawyer's protection.

There is a lot going on in this book, almost too much. Most of what happens gets explained, but not everything. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the ending. There are still a lot of unanswered questions, which hopefully get answered in future books. In the meantime, I'm left wondering what Tara told Alec and who the couple will be in the next book!

I also have to say that the writing in this book was better than the first. The author still gets overly descriptive, but it did seem better.

Another 5 star read by Lynn Stookes!! I love these books, the mystery, the romance and the surprises! And boy is there a big one in this book. This book centers on Dani and Sawyer but you still here from the main couple in the last book. I like how she entwines all the characters together giving you snippets of what may be coming from future books but keeps with the past book too.
In a matter of months Dani Delaney's world drastically changed. From losing her twin brother to being put in danger. And having been stuck with the towns local "manwhore" detective who is to hot for his own good is just the icing on the cake. But when one threat passes and another directed right at her, she's having to spend time with Detective Sawyer Woods again, only this time there is a whole new spin on things.
Detective Sawyer Woods hasn't had a good life until he makes it so on his own. And never thought he would ever want to settle down with just one woman until Dani. But he does want Dani and dreams of being with her but how can he get the woman he's in love with to see he's only wants her and keep her safe at the same time.
Ok that's all I'm going to give you because you really need to read this series. I can't wait to read more of this series. These do not leave off in cliffhangers but you will need to read book 1 Fatal Obsession to fully understand what is going on in book 2. I highly recommend this series!

At first, I had a bit of trouble getting into this. I didn't read the 1st book and I was kind of lost! So, make sure you read book 1 before reading this one! But, once I got into the story, I really enjoyed it. Mystery, danger, deception, and a good enemies to lovers trope. Dani is a likable character and I grew to like Sawyer as well (he was a little harder for me to like at first; maybe it was his former man whore ways? I'm kind of over the man whore trope!). There are so many twists and turns it will be difficult to put this book down.
I did think that it was a bit difficult trying to keep up with all the characters. There are SO MANY people. I found myself confused frequently about who someone was, were they good or bad, were they a cop or private security, or something else. Again, I think this is partially a problem because I didn't read book 1. Overall, I thought this book a great romantic suspense with a very well written plot and good (albeit a lot) characters. But, read book 1 first!

I read this straight off the back of the first in the series. I had my reservations, I will admit. Book 1 has a good story and I loved the characters (the 2 reasons I came straight to this!) but the editing and structure just didn't work for me.
I am happy to say Stookes has turned it round for me here!
I properly love Sawyer Woods! He's a babe of epic proportions...a little bad boy, charmer, loving, faithful, joker...everything a girl could wish for!
SWOON
I really love the characters in this series. All of them, even the not so nice ones are kind of intriguing!
The storyline is fast paced, edge of the seat stuff. Page turning drama at its best.
sex scenes are hotter than in book one and Sawyer and Dani's connection was more enjoyable to read.
There were a few points that had me furrowing my brow, a few times I shook my head in wonder. The first 10-15% for me was still a little bit structurally unstable and there was a bit of repetition of words but in general such an improvement on book 1!

As good as the first......if not better....

I read the first in this series, FATAL OBSESSION, and I loved it, so I knew this one would be just as good, but I was wrong.......it was BETTER!!!! I really enjoyed the characters of Dani Delaney and Sawyer Woods in the first book, but now, I love them!!!! Even though the two books are standalones, i would recommend reading book one before reading this one, simply for the character background and the storyline does slightly overlap.

Once again Ms Stookes has present a book that is full of action and moves forward at a very quick pace. I couldn't keep turning the pages fast enough. She has this style of writing that hooks the reader, reels then in and then keeps them hanging there wondering what is going to happen next. The unpredictability of the story is what keeps you reading, you need to know how each twist is going to be resolved.

Sawyer Woods, OMG!!!!! I enjoyed him in the first book, but in this one.....he is so much better!!! I loved watching the relationship of Sawyer and Dani. It is superbly written and their characters grow immensely - it's fun watching their interactions. I also enjoyed the relationship between Dani and Kylie - it was great to be able to see them grow from strength to strength.

Definitely a must read book/series.

4 Stars!

This second book in the Harden Mysteries series brings us Dani and Sawyer’s story and it is pretty amazing!

Dani and Sawyer have a love-hate relationship. Sawyer, a playboy, wants Dani. Dani wants nothing to do with Sawyer and his playboy ways. One night, during a particularly tense situation, things get hot and heavy, but the next morning, it’s back to fighting for these two.

We get another Harden mystery. This time, Dani is the one in trouble and Sawyer is determined to keep her safe. I really enjoyed this one. The sparks fly between Sawyer and Dani. The great cast of characters is back and we get introduced to even more. They mystery is a doozy and there is even a return that I never saw coming! Stookes’s writing has improved since book one and I look forward to more!

Danger, intrigue, cute as a button kids, old friends and an amazing romance make Ultimate Deception a great read!

Lynn Stookes is an amazing author, this is the second book of the Harden series, I read the first and loved it This story caught my attention right away, made me want to read the entire book in one sitting. The book's storyline is written with perfection.

The friendship between Kylie and Dani was once again epic; as well as the bond between the men of the story. The storyline of Sawyer and Dani is so romantic, you can just feel the love they have for each have other. It's like your being pulled into the story with them. The love and bickering they do over their relationship throughout the story was funny but sad all at the same time. Tristan her brother is very jealous over Duncan and Harper dating, but wouldn't admit it. It is going to be interesting in the next book to see where it goes.

I highly recommend this book to other readers as I have loved the series so far. It has caught my attention and the characters have snuck their way into my heart. . I am definitely looking forward to more.

This is the second in the Harden series and offers the same complex, suspenseful plot and engaging characters of the first. If you haven’t read book one you need to do that first to get the most enjoyment out of this follow up story.

So much has happened to her family and friends that Dani Delaney is still reeling from it all. And the challenges and blows just keep coming. Her life has been turned upside down and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight to the turmoil and decisions facing her. And Sawyer Woods is right smack in the middle of all of it! He is part of their big circle of police family but he could, and wants, to be more. Danger and misunderstandings are not helping them work out what their relationship is, and could be, and time may not be on their side.

I loved this fast-paced, emotional story! Dani is a professional and knows the need to be analytical and calm in a crisis but even she is going to have a hard time dealing with the many events and situations she finds herself in here. Sawyer is definitely worthy of all the love and family he can get but still struggles with the aftereffects of his less than stellar childhood. The drama between the two seemed a bit much at times - I wanted to sit them down and just yell TALK already! - but that was minor in a story that had me feeling the raw emotions and stomach knots through it all.
I hope this isn’t the end of this series and there are many more characters I would love to find out more about (hint, hint, Harper maybe?).
~Diane

Thrilling. Captivating. Sexy. Intense.
Lynn Stookes', Ultimate Deception, was a solid follow up to Fatal Obsession. Dani Delaney is the Harden County Medical Examiner. She's used to being around death but when someone makes her their target, Detective Sawyer Woods won't just stand back and watch from the sidelines. He vows to protect Dani and hopes that she'll finally see him as more than a nuisance and put an end to their constant bickering. Between full time jobs, Dani's hope to gain custody of her niece, organized crime, threats made against Dani, and a secret ready to explode, these two have their work cut out for them.
I enjoyed being reunited with all of the characters I loved in the first book. It was clear that there was something going on between Dani and Sawyer and I appreciated the opportunity to take a deeper look. It was entertaining to witness their daily verbal sparring matches. They had such a strong connection, an unmistakeable chemistry, yet Dani fought it tooth and nail. Their relationship was sweet, sexy, and at times, volatile. I enjoyed the evolution of not only the characters, but of them as a couple.
The mystery and suspense was woven into the story organically and effectively. While some of the situations seemed a bit extreme, they fit the story and the series. I was on the edge of my seat numerous times and couldn't put this book down.
I can't wait to see what happens next! I have fallen in love with these characters and I need to see what happens with all of them!

This book was better than the first one... I KNOW RIGHT?! How is that possible... I know that's what you are asking, but it really is.

The prologue again is so good... it got me this time again. It made me HAVE to know what happened.

Now, Dani was not what I thought she was based on knowing her through Fatal Obsession (Book #1). I knew she was strong, which was confirmed in chapter one of her story. What I didn't know was why she is so stubborn and so independent; once it was explained when she told her backstory EVERYTHING made sense. Then Lynn Stookes KILLED ME! She threw this whole story to another level!!

Sawyer is such a crazy combo of a man. He is so easy going most of the time and then Dani comes into play and he can't control his need to control the situation. It's crazy and I loved it! It obviously throws so much conflict into the situations with Dani being so independent and whatnot, but I loved it the whole time!

By chapter 3 I was dying... I was dying for Sawyer and for Dani at the same time for different and yet the same reasons. You'll have to read this one to know exactly what I mean by this, but you'll know as soon as you read it. Throughout so much of this story I ached for Sawyer. He is so amazing and so sweet.
"Anything for you, Dani." ... "Anything for you." -- Sawyer says this SO many times to her
I am so mad at Dani for a lot of things, but I get it... I just don't like it. I see her trying and getting stopped by one thing or another, but I still don't like it. I'm not going to lie... when it bites her in the butt (as karma always does) I felt vindicated but was still shattered but it. When Dani is talking to Kylie about everything it gutted me when she talks about not deserving anyone feeling sorry for her... she hated herself so much it just killed me.

Just when I thought I couldn't be into this story more, there's a HUGE development from Dani in the backstory and HOLY COW! Then you know everyone adjusts a little, takes it all in, and then just like that I got hit again! Another crazy twist!

I just couldn't handle the awesome in this book. It was so great.

By far one of the best I've read in a long time - possibly ever. I loved it.

Having read Fatal Obsession I couldn't wait to devour Ultimate Deception ! Lynn Stookes did not disappoint !
Please read Fatal Obsession before attempting Ultimate Deception.

Dani "inherits" little Lily from her brother who has died and what a sweetheart ♥ look make no mistake Dani's life undergoes drastic change and Sawyer is desperate to walk each step of the way with her bless his heart ,the man has the patience of a saint ! I would've lost my cool with Dani's stubbornness! In her defense Dani bears scars from a previous relationship and she has trust issues .

After a visit from the social worker Dani is uber rattled a) Sawyer comes to her "rescue" when he feels the official is out of line b) Little Lily , sweet Lily outs her secret and now she has to face the music .

What I appreciate is how everyone stood together to fight for Lily ,that little girl is soooo loved ♥♥ the bond between her and Sawyer is so special.

The only issue I really had is that Dani kept life altering news from Sawyer , I felt she could've handled that a little different but who am I to judge ?! ;)

Darkness lurks around the corner though and threatens our happy family. Lily's grandfather, Petrovich, is a shady character and he's after Lily and his motives are from noble.

Here at around 70% my nerves are shattered and my Kleenex supply is under severe threat .....you have been warned.

There was a rather shocking and unexpected turn of events near the end which just added to the mystery , drama , romance and suspense that makes Ultimate Deception a ★★★★★ read !

Such an amazing book. Loved the story and adored the characters. This is such an fantastic series!!!

Dani and Sawyer have such difficult past it’s almost impossible for them to trust. Not only the other gender but to have trust in themselves. They are going to have to really work on this past in order to move on to the future.

Dani’s past is completely about being young and stupid when it comes to men. She was a freshman in college before having a serious boyfriend and he was older than her and even though things started out good they became bad pretty quickly. He demeaned her and alienated her from her family. Her brother finally came to pack her up and make her leave him. She has finally gotten back to her true self and she can’t handle having a bully for a boyfriend, even if it is for her best interest.

She’s also trying to gain custody of her niece, Lily. Which is becoming difficult. On top of everything she finds out her x is out of jail, some Russian is trying to take Lily AND someone is trying to kill her and Sawyer.

Saywer’s past consist of having terrible parents and a long list of one night stands. To me he didn’t feel quite as scorned as Dani is but he’s more in-his-own-head about it. He is constantly trying to prove he can be there for Dani and Lily and his issues are more about being a father. Thank goodness because he needs to be up front and in Dani’s face in order to keep those walls she’s constantly putting up down.

Sawyer loves Dani but she’s keeping a pretty big secret lie from him. It’s huge and she’s scared that he’s going to leave her when he finds out. On top of that she doesn’t trust that he won’t bully her or cheat on her. She’s going to have to learn to trust him. Can she? Will she tell him her secret? Can Sawyer come to terms with his past and open up to Dani?

Loved this book!!! Lynn Stookes is an amazing storyteller! The characters are real and I love the multiple point of views. It allows you know what both main characters are thinking. It’s sweet and funny; there’s love and fighting; and most important….IT’S HOT!!!!!

Highly Recommend!!!!!

I first met Dani and Sawyer in book 1, and I was hoping to see more of them in this story. Dani has suffered more than her share of pain, and this last year has been really rough on her. Of course, her life doesn’t just fall into place for her. She’s has some pretty big shocks to deal within this book, including a lunatic who is targeting her. She wasn’t happy when Sawyer was the detective assigned to protect her in Fatal Obsession, and she’s not at all sure how she feels about being in that position again. Sawyer is sexy as sin, and she finds it hard to resist him. She’s also not comfortable with his bossy ways and man whore reputation.

Sawyer hasn’t had an easy life, and he doesn’t believe he’ll ever have a relationship or family. Casual affairs are more to his liking, but he finds he can’t walk away from Dani, no matter how hard she tries to convince him to. This story gives a lot more depth into Sawyer’s character. In book 1, he seemed like kind of a jerk, but there is much more than his cocky flirting. Even if I only saw the scenes involving him and Lily, I would have fallen in love with him. There was so much more to make him good book boyfriend material.

Ultimate Deception is book 2 in the Harden series, and it is a fast-moving 5 star read. I loved the way these two interact, and the suspense made it hard for me to put this book down. I also enjoyed reading about the other quirky residents of Harden. There are so many possibilities for future stories! I will admit that Tristan’s protective big brother act got on my nerves a few times. There were also a few moments where I wanted to reach through the pages and smack Dani and Sawyer for their communication issues, but I still thoroughly enjoyed this story. While both books could be read as standalone novels, I highly recommend reading both in order because the stories are so intertwined. This is the second book from this author, and I am hooked.

Another awesome book in the Harden Series! Fatal Obsessions (book 1) reeled me in and this book was no different. I devoured this book in less than a day and didn’t was to put it down. I love the characters and how we still get to see the characters from book 1. There’s betrayal, anger, humor, and let’s not forget that suspense that was so well written in the first book.

When you first see Sawyer and Dani at the beginning of book 1, Sawyer is constantly trying to get Dani to go out with him and she’s having none of it. They get throw together when Dani needs Sawyer’s protection. I’ve loved these two since the beginning of the series and I was so happy to see that theirs was the next book in the series. It doesn’t hurt that Sawyer is a whole lot of sexy and a total alpha male cop. Dani is jaded from a bad relationship and refuses to get involved with Sawyer. She’s also the medical examiner for their town and one smart lady.

Lynn Stookes has managed to give readers another fantastic story that keeps you guessing throughout the whole book. I just can’t say enough good things about this book (and series). I love a good mystery and suspense with some romance but you don’t often get both in equal amounts but this series has managed to do that. There were a couple of times that I though I had something figured out and then something would happened to make me second guess myself. Phenomenal book and I can’t wait for more in the series. 5 out of 5 stars!

I got to read the first book just a week or so ago and had to wait a whole freaking week for this one. Let me tell you, I was chewing on my nails waiting for this. See I loved Sawyer, he was my favorite. No lie. I wanted more of his story, his witty comments and his constant fighting with Dani. SO much freaking sexual tension it isn't even funny.

Sawyer of course the cocky man who had been chasing after Dani. Another suspenseful book. This one was much easier to read, the other one I had felt like it was long. Though first books seem to set up everything. You get to see the family, and your favorite characters which is awesome.

Seeing Lily and Sawyer together was love. Seeing their little family together was beautiful. The unexpected secret that was outed by Tara. Best friends sharing a moment that many don't get together. I surprise secret you find out about both Sawyer and Dani. You find out why Dani was so guarded. Why Sawyer doesn't always believe he should be happy and you see them figure out how much in love they really were (like we ever doubted it).

Surprise person shows up close to the end. I'm not going to give that away. If you read the first book, when the second one comes out it is a must read. I can't say enough good things about this book. Third book where are you? I NEED IT! Lynn you are amazing. Keep up the good work.

The second book in the Harden series brings us the story of Danielle (Dani) Delaney and Sawyer Woods. A Medical Examiner and Detective, respectively, Dani and Sawyer have been working some cases together and although he has attempted to seduce her, she hasn’t given him a chance.

Dani has been living “on her own”, not needing anyone and that’s how she plans to continue. Scarred by a past relationship, she has decided she doesn’t need a man and this makes it difficult for Sawyer to bring down her walls and get close to her. But Sawyer is relentless and pursues her to no end.

When Dani finds herself in a situation where “alone” is no longer an option, Sawyer is there, offering his help, but she’s reluctant to accept it. It isn’t until her life is threatened that she realizes he might be just what she needs to stay alive.

Sawyer and Dani have chemistry to spare. The sexual tension between them is enough to burn down the house. I love their story. The plot is once again full of mystery and suspense. The writing is no less fantastic than in the first book and characters continue to keep us glued to our seats. The relationships they have, the sense of friendship and “family”, all that just makes it even harder not to fall in love with them.

Kylie and Blake, Dani and Sawyer… now I just want Tristan’s story!

Guest Review by Tammy Cole

I did read the first book in this series and I liked it. But after reading the second book, Ultimate Deception, Lynn's writing and character development was top notch in this book. I definitely would recommend reading the first book as you will get the whole background on each character, which is needed to fully enjoy the book.

Detective Sawyer Woods is your typical cocky arrogant alpha male who has fallen head-over-heals in love with Dani the moment he first laid eyes on her. Dani has suffered from a bad relationship in the past and is very leery of starting anything with Sawyer. She already has her hands full raising her brothers one year old daughter and isn't looking for a relationship. Sawyer is nothing if not persistent with Dani.

"Just the sight of him with a small child could make any woman's biological clock start ticking, including mine."

I really loved the relationship between Sawyer and Dani but I was a little upset with the way Dani handled telling Sawyer the correct answer about her little predicament. Other than that, this was an enjoyable read with a story line that will have you wondering how it will play out til the end. The ending did take me by surprise and I cannot wait to read the next book in this series.

"You are my past, present, and future. You can't get rid of me, angel. I'll always catch you."

WOW WOW WOW! WHAT DID I JUST READ?! Or should I say experience! I'm still so jacked up from this story, that I can't even pick another book up.

Dani Delaney's life has been a non-stop series of chaotic events the past few months, and so it's been a struggle to get it calmed down back into a rhythm. Instead of some kind of normalcy, she's now facing another huge obstacle in her life, and she's not sure what to do. Detective Sawyer Woods would move mountains to be with Dani, but she doesn't trust men. When she starts receiving threatening messages, she's forced to accept Sawyer's help, which doesn't sit well with her. With unknown enemies surrounding them, can Sawyer protect Dani, and convince her to give him a real shot?

HOLY SUSPENSE BATMAN! This book grabbed my attention from the beginning, and held me hostage to the end. I couldn't catch my breath, nor even take a break to eat before I found out how it ended. Lynn Stookes' character development is perfect, with the secondaries being perfect as well. The storyline is brilliant with all the twists and turns, and flowed very smoothly. My heart never stopped racing with the off the charts, non-stop suspense, and in the down time, SCORCHIN HOT sexy scenes that lit my kindle up. I'm a new fan for life, and CANNOT WAIT to read more by this fantastic author! In conclusion, Ultimate Deception is a MUST READ EPIC BOOK!

It seems like I have waited forever for this, but man was it worth the wait. It is a stand alone, but you will understand who Blake and Dani are and their situation if you have read Fatal Obsession.
There is so much action and interaction I don't know where to begin.
The Stars of the Show--oops-- I mean book are Dani and Sawyer. They are a very interesting couple. Dani has her issues and Sawyer is a ladie's man, a manwhore they call him in the book. We still get a lot more of Kylie and Blake as well.

There are so many characters in this story. Some new and many from the other book as well. There is Tristan and some of his team, Duncan, Harper also from the last book and we have Becca a new EMT with her gay friend Jackson. These are the good guys the bad guy list is just as long. I wouldn't mind seeing any of these characters get a book of their own. But let's not forget the one to steal our hearts and a big player in the book. Little Lily. Who doesn't love a toddler!

The plot is thick with lots of different things going on and all I will say is there are more twists and turns than on a roller coaster! I sure did not see the end coming and am still in shock.

If you like a good romance, with lots of mystery and suspense, love sexy cops and a strong female lead you will love this!

4 star

The story has laughs, pain, murder, suspense, betrayal, secrets, and heartbreak. I was pulled right into this story. The story flowed well and I was able to stay connected and interested throughout the book.

If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first
Fatal Obsession (Harden #1)

This is Dani and Sawyer’s story. Dani has secrets that she is not ready to tell Sawyer. She is working on getting custody of her niece. When Sawyer opens his mouth and tells the case worker they are in a relationship he has no idea what he did wrong. Sawyer and Dani bicker if they are in the same room for more than a few seconds. How are they going to fake a relationship? Can Dani let Sawyer in on her secrets? Will he still want her after he knows all the secrets? Or will one secret be the one thing that blows there world apart? Can she trust Sawyer? Can he protect her from the danger that surrounds her? Or will one drunken night take everything from Sawyer he ever cared about? What happens when the past comes back to slam into the future?

I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I recommend this book and this author.

Ultimate Deception is the second novel in the Harden series by Lynn Stookes and starts shortly after the climax in Fatal Obsession. This novel focuses on Dani and Sawyer. I loved Sawyer in the first book, so I was ecstatic to learn more about him in this one. Sawyer had a rough childhood that definitely affected his attitude about the present, especially women. Dani’s past continues to haunt her and she clashes with Sawyer on all levels. I loved all their interactions.
A number of secondary characters are introduced throughout, which made me really happy. I can already see possibilities for them to have their own novels, so I am looking forward to the next few books (at least what I am hoping will be the next few books).
This book is a wild ride right from the beginning; just when you think you know what’s going to occur next, something unexpected happens that you couldn’t have guessed in a million years (my mouth literally dropped open multiple times).
This is the 2nd book in the Harden series, but there is not a cliffhanger for the main characters. Future Harden books will focus on other characters.
I received an eARC from the author in exchange for a honest review.

*I received a copy of this book from More Than Words in exchange for a fair and honest review.*

I loved this book! It was just as good, okay a little better, than the first book. I love the romantic suspense in this book. The incredible thing about this author is she is GREAT at keeping the story flowing, keeping you guessing, and keeping you on the edge of your seat. There were some great twists and turns in this story. It’s not a story that you want to put down while you are reading.
If you’re looking for some hot and steamy bedroom scenes too, well there were definitely a few of those. She uses pretty heavy detail and description so I don’t think they would disappoint you if you need that in a story.
This story will have you smirking and laughing out loud. It will also leave you gasping in awe. There is one particular scene where a particular person gets punched and I kind of wanted to do a fist pump in the air for that part. I loved it!
I think this author is an author to definitely keep a watch for and read her books as they come out. You won’t be disappointed!

Ultimate Deception is the second book in this series. Although it is about a different couple I HIGHLY recommend reading book 1 (Fatal Obsession) first. This book focuses on Dani and Sawyer, but the story picks up where Kylie and Blake’s story left off.

Dani is adjusting to her new life, a life that has become a lot more interesting recently. She is now responsible for her niece and is learning to juggle her demanding career and being a new guardian. On top of all that she finds out some news that flips her world on its axis again. I loved Dani’s character. She made mistakes but they are mistakes that I am not sure that I wouldn’t make myself if I was in her situation.

Sawyer is amazing in this book. You will learn so much more about him and his past. What has made him the way he is and what it takes for him to change. When this man loves he loves with every cell in his being.

This book just like the first had some great twists and turns. This author is very good at writing suspense and mystery. I had no clue about some of the things that happened ahead of time.

I can’t wait for the next book. I am curious who it will focus on and how the storyline will continue!

I read Fatal Deception, the first book in the Harden Series, when it came out and loved it! I was really pleased when the second book in this series came out. I decided to re-read Fatal Deception again and I’m glad I did. One, because it’s a great book and two, because I wanted to be sure I remembered the details. I’m glad I did and, if you haven’t read Fatal Deception, I recommend that you read it before starting Ultimate Deception.
Even though I remembered Sawyer and Dani, I wasn’t sure if I would like them as the major characters in a book. I was wrong. Dani still annoyed me, but I loved Sawyer. I loved catching up with characters I ‘met’ in the first book and continuing their stories as well as finding out more about Sawyer and Dani. There were also quite a few new characters to meet, although there were times when I forgot who was who.
Just as I thought I began to think that Ultimate Deception was predictable, Lynn Stookes wrote something that completely surprised me. I definitely did not see how this book was going to end. I definitely will be reading the next book in this series to see what happens next.
I gave Ultimate Deception 4 stars.

This the 2nd book in the series and picks up where Fatal Obsession left off.
Dani is trying to gain custody of her newly found niece only to get the surprise of a lifetime. She is a professional, single woman and the only thing she can focus on is the adoption of Lily.
Sawyer is so consumed with Dani, no one else even catches his attention. Unfortunately, his past dalliances seem to pop up everywhere. The man just can help his sex appeal. Protecting others is what he does as a detective and when it comes to Dani and the little girl that has stolen his heart, he will protect them at all costs.
These characters are great. I felt everything they were experiencing. The story was suspenseful and flowed well.
I will definitely recommend this series to others and I can't wait to see what the author has in store next.
