In Revenant, the third installment in the Dark Rituals series, Colina grows in power and ability—and faces danger like never before.

After miraculously escaping the insane asylum, it becomes clear that Colina holds unprecedented power—she can force spirits into the afterlife and even raise the dead. But with those abilities come problems: just as they escape evil’s clutches, Colina and her friends are abducted by a dark mastermind with horrifying intentions.

Now Colina is being forced to raise an undead army for a madman set on unleashing the demons of hell and reverting the world back to a state of chaos. In fact, he’s already started: death dealers are dying by the hundreds, blamed for the evil acts that Colina unknowingly committed.

And the demon she raised so long ago is fighting on his side.

Torn between the romantic attentions of Luke and Dean and unable to trust her own deathly abilities, Colina has nowhere to turn. Will the darkness finally consume her soul?

Catrina Burgess’ Dark Rituals series originally appeared on Wattpad with over three million reads. Revenant is the third book of four. The first in the series, Awakening, was named Wattpad’s Best Suspense Story of 2014.

Writing New Adult Paranormal Romance as Catrina Burgess and writing New Adult Angsty Contemporary as Friday Burgess

I write because it helps keeps the darkness away and reminds me that there is magic in the world. I live with one husband, two dogs, and a cat named Shitty Kitty in a small mining town in Arizona. At night this place is definitely spooky. I swear I’ve heard the wind giggle, and sometimes there’s a very odd breeze. Luckily, I love all things that go bump in the night. I adore old movies. I’m a huge Joss Whedon fan.

I’ve been known to eat pizza and cold Chinese food for breakfast, and I’m the queen of the board game Stratego. I’ve never been beaten. NEVER!

Revenant is the third book in the Dark Rituals series by Catrina Burgess. This installment picks up about a week after Colina and company have escaped the insane asylum in book two and have been kidnapped by a madman named Gage who works for the demon that Colina had released in the first book. Gage wants to use Colina and her magic abilities to create a zombie army to create chaos and gain power for himself.

I have to say I'm glad this book got a bit more into the magic and back to the plot with the demon. The second in the series just seemed to forget everything else that had been going on and only focus on the asylum and the problems in it. Still not a lot in the way of world building in the entire series though, this just takes place at the compound where our characters are being held.

With some new bad guys introduced and a bit more focus on the magical world I'd give this installment 3.5 stars. Should be an interesting end to the journey in the next book.

So many twists I didn't see coming!

By now I've made it my mission to try and figure out what will happen in this series and I'm wrong EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. That honestly makes me so happy too because I love the twists I never saw coming! We have ghosts, demons, zombies, and now mummies 🫣 there's also these "old gods", whatever Mildred is because that woman is crazy in the best way, and a Berserker! Plus don't even get me started on the theories I have about Wendy. Will any of them be right? Probably not, but I can't wait to find out how author Catrina Burgess tangles it all up, and just how Colina plans to fix all of the things unraveling around her. Onward to Legion!

Catrina has did it once again! I had so many questions while reading this book and when I thought I knew the answer I would be wrong.
I couldn't imagine being Colina in this book. Her life was a complete disaster from the beginning to the end. I felt all the feelings of Colina, Wendy, and Dean throught the story.
The ending...WHAT?? I never would have even begun to think thats what would happen. I was shocked to say the least.
On to the final book Legion. I am excited but sad at the same time to read the final book.

OMG!!!! This book is so good. So much is happening, and it was great. My heart sunk when they got captured again, and the stupid madman Gage was making Colina do horrible things. But i applaud her for doing what she did to keep all her friends and boyfriend alive. Was mad at Mildred for doing what she did, but at the end of the book, she redeemed herself. Almost cried when Luke "died," but glad he's alive. I really hope everyone she loves is alive and they get Gage. I can't believe Gage did a spell on her to get her to marry him, and hopefully, she doesn't go to him. I wanted to punch him, lol. Can't wait to start the next book.

This series must be amongst the worst I have ever read. I I have to read how she luurves Luke so much she will do any evil thing to keep him around, don't forget she has known him for around 10 days, I will puke. To make the whole thing more pathetic there is a love triangle - the last refuge of a truly pitiful author. Another thing, why is every guy handsome nd muscular? even after over a year in a damn coma and eating cheap ass hospital food.
The main character is supposed to be a by god alpha necromancer/death dealer and she acts like a character in a Victorian penny dreadful.
I could go on but instead I will just say don't buy this ridiculous series.

Revenant continues Colina’s tale as she performs horrific deeds for her captor all for the sake of keeping her friends safe. When they begin to plan for an escape, things escalate quickly and nothing is ever as it seems.

This was partially what I expected from the ending of book 2. It has much more depth of the story and what is happening in the world around them rather than the more isolated perspective from book 2’s setting. Enjoyed this addition to Colina’s tale and can’t wait to read more.

I loved the world created by Catrina Burgess, for sure.
I read all the books quite fast, I couldn't get enough and I wanted to know what happened next.
The only reason why this doesn't get 5 stars is the fact that Colina is so slow to understand things and then all of a sudden, everything clicks in her head and everything falls into place. I feel it was missing some gradual work towards the end goal.

I love the continuation from each book, they flow seamlessly. This is book 3 if The Dark Rituals, it grans you from the begining and you can’t put it down. This has been a really good story line that I have been thoroughly enjoying! Can’t wait to start the last book! But then I really don’t want it to end either.

On another note, these books are absolutely stunning!

This series is amazing! I can't stop reading them! I am getting sad that there is only one more book. This series has so many twists and turns and she is becoming so powerful.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
It had been a while since i had read the first two books in this series, but remembering the cliff hanger of book 2, i couldn't wait to see where this story was going to go.
It Didn't disappoint.
Following on from the last book, Colina is being held prisoner by Gage. An Evil man in league with the Demon Colina had mistakenly released from hell. Still discovering her unusual powers as a death dealer, and trying to save her friends once again, she is put to the test in new and unexpected ways.
This book had me hooked from the get go, as i knew it would. But what i really loved about it was the fact that i couldn't predict what was going to happen next. Seriously-not even close. I came up with so many different plot twists that i kept expecting to happen, only to be proven wrong once again. This installment definitely kept me on my toes.
Without Giving away too many details, i would say that the trials she is put through in this book make the death dealer rituals look like a walk in the park. Talk about stuck between a rock and a hard place.
That being said- WHAT WAS SHE THINKING??
I couldn't say i would have done anything different if i was put in any situation that could risk the lives of the ones i loved. But when does one life stop outweighing hundreds?
GAH! I loved this book. I loved the story line. And i loved (Most) characters, but it was soooo infuriating.
I want to tell anyone reading this to stop what you are doing, and go and read it NOW. But beware-This book has a cliffhanger too.

Colina is neck deep in trouble.
Fighting against herself and everyone around her.
Torn between love and hatred she must decide how far is she willing to go to save loved ones.
There is only darkness around and no light at the end of tunnel. She doesn't know who to trust.
Colina is, yet again, in story that will keep you on edge till end. Book is loaded with tension and intensity.
Catrina Burgess world is not black and white, her heroine walks grey path and i love it.

One word. Brilliant.

The third book in the Dark Rituals series and I still get chills running down my back. The writer is back at it again with a book that has you on the edge of your seat the entire way through. How scary can Colina's world get? Well, whatever you're thinking, you're wrong. Burgess turned the fear factor all the way up to eleven. Prepare for sleepless nights.

I am really bad at expressing my thoughts and feelings so I'm going to try a new strategy, because this book was amazing and it deserves a review to point out why it was amazing.

- I really like how Colina evolves as a death dealer and her powers but the only thing that still bugs me a little is what she does for Luke. Dean is a nice and caring boy and he deserves more. I did like Luke in the first book but I think that his time has past and also because what happened to him in this book I don't think he will ever be the same.
- Gage is a interesting character and even though he is a bad guy I still enjoyed his his presence and charm.
- I didn't quite had an opinion on Wendy but in this book it was clear to me that she isn't my favourite one. Meaning I don't quite care so much what happens to her...
- On the other hand Mildred was a surprise for me. You get to learn a few things about her and I come to like her more.
- Also, I hated Caleb. I really did even though I understood why he was behaving like that I still couldn't like him, even a little bit.
- The world our gang is in is truly scary and unpredictable. You never know how the tables turn and what other monstrosities will appear.
- The action in the third book just keeps coming, hooks you up and you just want to keep reading to see what happens next. As I said in the other reviews for the first two books I had the problem with keeping up with reading. There were some times in which I didn't want to pick up the books (first and second book) but this one I just couldn't put it down!
- I am actually sad that I'm already reaching the final book but at the same time I want Colina to have some peace and resolution (I think that's the word).
