When the dark clouds gather, find a patch of blue sky.
And chase it into tomorrow.
Sway Schaeffer had always known music was going to be a part of his life. It wasn't until he picked up an electric bass in high school that he thought he might actually have fun with it. Raised by classical musicians with the expectation to follow in their footsteps, Sway had gotten used to not caring what other people thought of his choices.
He had made it a habit early on in his career to find the bright side to every situation, even when others—including his fellow bandmates—disagreed with his methods. Or misinterpreted them entirely.
Ryan Zacherson is a moderately successful romance writer. She enjoys her quiet life and does not enjoy surprises. She's tense, suspicious, and completely thrown off by the rock star that has happened to move in next door. She's not looking for an adventure. Or a fling. Or anything really.
But she keeps finding herself drawn further and further into the whirlwind that is Sway's life.
For the first time ever, she feels like she can be herself... and be loved for it.
When life interrupts, and reality checks back in, will what they have built together be solid enough to survive the hurricane that is part of the Double Blind Study world? Or will they be torn apart by simple doubt, drama, and pride?
Brand New Sky is the sixth and final in a series of standalone novels following the lives and loves of Double Blind Study. Rated PG13

Heidi Hutchinson writes slow burn rock star romances for contemporary readers who like humor with their hotties. She has both open and closed door series filled with relatable characters and swooney yumminess. Double Blind Study, her go-to series, is closed door and follows a band in emotional turmoil and the women who love them.

When she’s not writing about wild hearted women and hunky heroes, she’s watching Doctor Who or trying to find the perfect gluten free pizza crust for her pizza shaped celiac heart. She lives in the Black Hills with her alarmingly handsome husband, their fearless child, and a rather large (and spoiled) dog.

She’s fueled by messages from her readers and too much coffee.
And a whole lotta love.

THE DOUBLE BLIND STUDY SERIES is an exciting romance series about rock stars in recovery. The Double Blind Study band has already lived the rock and roll cliché. This is life after. Full of humor, heart, and slow burn romance. Each book can be read alone but it is best if read in order. Cliffhanger free.

THE SOARING BIRD SERIES follows a group of extreme sports enthusiasts as they navigate life and love living on the California coast. Slow burn romantic comedies that can be read individually, but best if read in order. Cliffhanger free.

THE IN BETWEEN DUET SERIES is a slow burn unconventional romance that explores the connections of science and poetry. Occasionally intense moments of personal clarity and heartfelt confessions. Filled with touches of humor and real world obstacles. Cliffhanger free.

IN COLD MUD SERIES is a small series revolving around the politics and relationships of horse racing. Not a romance series. Definitely family drama.

NOTE: All of Heidi Hutchinson’s books take place in the Double Blind Study series. Each series can be read on their own but there are often crossover characters you may recognize.

ARC review:
I think it's impossible for Heidi to write anything, but beautiful and compelling masterpieces. I just adore her creations. I feel as if I'm reading about real people and they're such sweet love stories. Brand New Sky feels as if I'm receiving a little bit more of Heidi's heart. It's almost as if she wrote part of herself in it. It's just that amazing. I just wish this wasn't the end.

I'll add more of a review once the book is released, but I did want to mention just how brilliant Brand New Sky is to me.

Update 9/15/15:
Sway and Ryan's story was everything I hoped it would be and more. Sway stole our hearts in previous books with his charm, but I felt as if we see the whole man in this book. I enjoyed watching him become a father and finding himself. Ryan is a very interesting character. She's quiet and introspective, which I very much appreciated. Plus, I loved that she is a writer! She is wonderful and not a cheesy romance character. To see them meet and basically fall into friendship is unexpected for Ryan. I don't want to spoil the rest of the story, but I had many tears and smiles. I didn't want the series to end, but it was time...so I savored every sweet moment. It's refreshing to read characters who actually love each other. So many times the characters just have physical attraction but nothing else. I think Heidi spends more time developing the character, and that gets me every time!

ARC review

This is a tough review to write. I need to talk with my hands and invent new words to describe the level of my love for this book! We were promised a chance to see Sway's many layers and Heidi delivered! Then, because Heidi is awesome, she gave us Ryan, who is just as interesting and complex! Diving into all the layers allows us a chance to connect to these two on a much deeper level. I hurt when they hurt and I felt so much joy when they found each other and went on the best kind of adventure. (And I nearly laughed my butt off when they laughed and joked)
The moments that included the whole gang are my favorite band moments out of the entire series. Each time I read them, I had the same feeling I get when surrounded by all my favorite people. The family theme is extra strong in this one and your heart will feel so full that it might burst. I'm still in denial about this being the end, but I must admit that the epilogue is so perfectly perfect! I can't say any more or I will cry AGAIN!
This book has me feeling so very proud of Heidi. On book release day, I will be as giddy as a Stage Mom, watching her baby nail her performance!!!

What makes a collection of words speak to the heart of a reader? What makes characters so real, that the end of the series feels like the loss of a friend? Whatever it is, you will find it in these books.

Where to begin? Whereas The Hope That Starts was exuberant in its declaration of love, Brand New Sky is elegant, dignified and subtle. Shot through with melancholy and sadness in places, this is a glorious and gentle romance which made my breath catch.

Once again, the author has succeeded in creating a tale which seduces the reader. Wonderfully written, with well developed characters you can't help but be invested in.

I am sad to be saying goodbye to characters who have become so familiar to me, but this is a fitting last note to the Double Blind Study score.

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review

I think this is my favorite of the whole series. I loved everything about this one. I love how this author writes two people falling in love. You get to be part of every moment. She writes so beautifully. Some of her books remind my of Amy Harmon. Sway's story I was worried about. I just didn't think I would love it as much as I did. Sway has grown and changed more than any other band member and I love that we got to see that really well in this book.
This book had a couple crass sexual innuendo. There is a lot of kissing. No sex scene. Some swear words.
Should not be read alone. Sway's story happens over 6 books.

I write this with a heavy heart. I didn't want the series, Double Blind Study, to end. I definitely didn't want Brand New Sky to end. I grieve the conclusion of the series. I thought reading them all again would soften the blow. It didn't. I can't remember the last time I read such a touching, loving romance. It isn't every day that a story brings me to tears. The author brought empathy out in a reader that usually doesn't do sappy. I cried over the tragedy of their youths. I cried over the realities of the empty lives that had lived. I cried over a union that could not be more perfect. I cried over the drama that they did not deserve. Brand New Sky is a romance that I will always remember. Sway was the youngest in the band. He didn't always think before he acted and his actions could hurt others. At the age of 30 he knows he has to grow up. He is now the father of a seven year old, Miles, he didn't know existed. He grabs at an opportunity to house sit in Hartford to be closer to Miles. How many fathers would do that???? Ryan is the introvert girl next door. She is also a romance writer, one Sway loves, under an alias. Meeting her flips a switch for Sway. He makes it is mission to make her smile. He wants, no, needs to know her. Their journey was amazing. He saw the real Ryan and she saw the real Sway. No one had seen them before. Sway and Ryan were always there for each other without having to ask. I lost count of the times I swooned over Sway's actions or comments. I was confused over the title until I read the book. I found myself highlighting every reference to "Brand New Sky". Heidi has sucked me into the pages and I don't was to climb out. I think I will go read the EPIClogue (Epic epilogue) and try and find closure with the series. Please forgive the babbling. The story just grabbed my heart and made me all warm and fuzzy.

Really wishing Goodreads had half star options. This is a solid 4.5 star book for me. My only (in)decision now is whether it tips on the 4 star or 5 star side of 4.5. Ha! Anyway, the half star taken away is only because I sometimes feel problems get resolved too easily. Other than that, I love this book along with all the others. Sway has always been a favorite character and I've enjoyed watching him grow throughout the course of the series. As soon as Ryan showed up I knew she was absolutely perfect for a guy like Sway. Probably my favorite thing, however is the epilogue. *sigh* Thanks Heidi!!

I tried very very hard to take my time with this book because it's the last and I wanted it to last as long as possible. That lasted 2 days before I just had to finish it. It made be laugh, made my cry and left me with warm fuzzies. I'm sad it's over but I'm glad that all of the characters made an appearance and that they are all in good places. Needless to say, I can't wait to see what Heidi writes next!

Oh my god, I loved it!!! So, so, so sad this series is over. BOOOOOO! I'm honestly shocked more people haven't read these. I love them and I love Heidi's writing style, so if you're seeing this, go buy Learn to Fly (first book in this series), and lose yourself in Double Blind Study. I promise you won't regret it.

**JODIE'S 4.5 STAR REVIEW**

“It turned my soul inside out and then demanded I kiss its feet. Which I did,” he tacked onto the end when she laughed at his description. “How do you do that? How do you reach into people like you own them?”

How do you do that Heidi Hutchinson? How do you get me shouting your praises every time? How do you get me sitting with tears down my cheeks wanting to kiss my kindle? This book was the perfect ending to a beautiful series. This book deserves a standing O for the story Heidi gave Sway and Ryan. Before even starting this book I loved Sway and the story he had to tell but I never imagined what was going to be written on the pages.

“That’s ‘Radar Love’, babe.”

It was more than love it was complex, it was emotional and it was like reading the story of an old friend. I adored the fact that Ryan was a writer and the way Heidi wrote her and her struggles. You get this look at a writers life and their real life. The person behind the pen was even more intriguing then the name on the cover of the book.

“Being friends with a writer is always tricky thing, you never know what they are gonna take from your life and stick in their manuscript.” “Everything,” she said instantly. “We’re probably going to use everything.”

Biggest fear when talking to an author!!

Getting the whole story of these two makes you completely connect and feel. Watching Sway as a father melts your heart. You laugh, you cry, and gasp with them. And since this was the end I was so glad we got moments with the whole band. ABSOLUTELY PREFECT GOODBYE TO THIS SERIES!!!

“Can I ask you a question?” Ryan turned her face his direction.

“Always.”

“Are you part Elf?”

Convinced Heidi is part Elf and this book made Christmas come early for this girl!!!!

I mean we all knew the last book was going to be the hardes to read. Not only because it was the last, but because it was Sway. I had to stop reading at about 69% because I just didn't want the story to end. Not only the story, but the series. This truly has been an epic roller coaster, an amazing ride that Heidi has taken us on- both singly and with the group.

The thing I love the most about Heidi's writing is its so all encompassing. Each book is part of the series, but each person has their own book. And each book is just so,.. Complete. You get this full story, thus full circle, almost life cycle of a story, and you get to see it play out from so many people. Miles, Ryan, sway, gran and gramps, the other band mates, the ladies. It's just such a full story, there's no better word for it. And every single book is like that. It's just so epically amazing and I wish he series wasn't ending. If you haven't started it, you will too.

But I also loved the epilogue. It was truly an epiclogue. Heidi made sure that she didn't leave her readers hanging for any of the band mates and their happily ever ever after. And it's just what we needed - the cherry on top.

I wish I could sit here and say 5 stars. But I can't. It's not enough. Heidi's DBS will always be one of the best written series I've ever read and I don't see that changing. For that, 5 isn't enough. It deserves far more.

Even if I didn't fall in love with Sway (which I did) and even if I didn't thrill at every moment of his and Ryan's romance (which I did), I still would have read this book because I had to know what happened with the other characters! But there is no way that Heidi would have just let this series taper off like that.

Before I read it, I kept trying to remember who Sway was and his backstory. All I could remember was that he had a son and connected with Zelda. But now! Now, I feel like I know who he is and where he came from, but more importantly who Ryan brings out in him.

There is just so much to these characters and this DBS family. It breaks my heart that it is over....

Heidi, start writing the next series that I'll love! Please!

Book 6 the final book in the series.
Wow, goodbye is hard. I could not read it fast enough, but then when you know it's close to over I could not slow down. I wanted it, to NEVER end. It's like closing the book on family. This series has touched my heart. I sit here in tears as it is all wrapped up so sweetly. It truly was the greatest ending, but it's hard that it's ended. I still believe EVERYONE needs to read this series. The author has a way of pulling you into the lives of this band of brothers and making you feel a part. I will gladly read anything she writes! I wish there were more than 5 stars because this series is so much more!

Sway, the playboy, the womanizer, the flirt, the joker. But always the heart of the band.

Since the first flirt with Lenny, the intimidation of Lucy, the close friend in Zelda. I was all the way hooked up with the layers of Sway.
The sudden growing up with fatherhood to the gate opening of his sweet heart!

It was the perfect closing up of the Double Blind Study. And Oh My how loved it!

I didn't like the "40 years later" part though. It was the kind of lame I don't usually like!

Definitely a romance Series worth reading. Funny, romantic.. Every novel could be read as a stand alone but I enjoyed getting in the lives of all of them.

WOW-Heidi Hutchinson has done it again! She wrote a wonderful book with rich characters I want to spend quality time with. It was bittersweet though, I was so excited to read about Sway and then as it was coming to an end I was so sad that it was over. Brand New Sky was a perfect ending to a perfect series. Each book has been better than the last. I'm so glad that it ended with Sway and to see inside his mind and heart was remarkable. It was a perfect love story!

I received an ARC for my honest opinion - it was awesome!!!!

This book is like a fine dessert. The perfect end to an amazing book series. It is meant to be read slowly with full enjoyment of each facet. I have been fascinated with Sway throughout the series and what a perfect partner for him - Ryan. I loved every part of this story and the fact that the entire band came along for the ride. AMAZING...read it and enjoy!

Once a cast of characters gets under your skin and the music of their lives gets stuck like a mighty, mighty earworm in your brain, it is truly difficult to let go and/or say goodbye.

With a wonderful chorus of well-developed characters, a harmony full of heart that effortlessly blends music and life, and a bit of an angsty refrain, Heidi Hutchinson's Double Blind Study series hits all the *write* notes.

Sway's story *could* have been the cliched, formulaic 'bad boy hero finally finds happy ending with the picture perfect heroine'. Brand New Sky is not that story. It is lovely to the end, with realistically flawed yet completely endearing and relatable characters. It is romance, humor, drama, music, life.

I have loved this whole series and once again Heidi Hutchinson did not disappoint! Sway creeped in to my heart, grabbed hold of it and would not let go. This book had me laughing and tearing up all at the same time. It not only had one fabulous main character who was the sexy, alpha, rock star but she also gave us a strong, caring, and maybe a little stubborn female we could fall in love with too. I love these characters so much I'm just not ready to let go but it was an amazing way to end the series. It all came together and their family was one and happy. It has been an amazing adventure and I can't wait to see what is in store for us from Heidi Hutchinson next.

Sway is looking for a house to buy closer to his son. He has the opportunity to house sit for a friend in the area he is looking.

Ryan is a pretty private person and for the next 4 months Sway's new neighbor. She is a writer and Sway and Zelda are big fans of hers.

The 2 start a nice friendship and become good friends with a bright future. Clive gets more people to love on him and take him for walks. And Ryan gets an instant family because whether or not they are a couple or just friends, Sways clan of misfits is not giving her up.

This was a nice story for Sway who you see struggle in the earlier books with happiness and sadness and just being alone in general.

I wish there was more info and explanation on the Liam part and what happened after the hospital and/or why it happened. It seemed obsession but the author never really explained it.

I love Sway and I absolutely love Sway's story! And it goes without saying Ryan's.

His whole character's development and "maturity" is just awesome! Since book #1
Even the love story is brilliant in a way. He didn't deny or run away from his feeling like the rest of the guys and went all in and I loved that!

The womanizer, the ladies' man, the immature, the playful, the flirt, the kid.. But he wasn't really! His relationship with his band mate, his dealing with Mike and his girl (what was her name Isla!), his relationship with Alexa! He was never a player, a jerk, an immature!

I LOVE SWAY -if I didn't make that clear already-

And his parent's story is totally another thing that deserves a book of its own...

This is the story of the final couple in the band. As such, it is written differently from prior books, or so it seems to me. This book is much more sentimental and sweet and Sway's relationship is mostly smooth sailing. Like fated mates, there's no doubt from the moment they meet. And all the angst is from external agents.

Some things are fated to be, no matter how hard we try to avoid them.

Ryan has been able to leave her past behind her and live quite successfully as a recluse. Writing novels in the company of her dog Clive, intermittent banter with her editor Claire and the push from her tough as nails fitness neighbor Tawny, life is just fine as it is.

UNTIL...Sway moves in next door to house sit. Cocky and confident, Sway is the complete opposite of shy and private Ryan. But the Universe has a plan and it involves the uniting of Ryan and Sway.

Sway is super keen, but steps carefully around Ryan. She on the other and surprises herself with her desire to let Sway into her life. They both constantly learn from each other and their bond slowly grows through out the story.

Just when they get to a place they are both comfortable with, their pasts come back with a vengeance. The test is can they both get through this and their relationship survive.

Can the past disrupt the plans of a future together or is Destiny just too strong to destroy such a perfect love story.

Ryan and Sway are very relatable characters. There is something about them that keeps you hoping and praying for them to battle through to the end! Love this book and totally fell in love with Ryan and Sway!

This was one of my favorite series of the year, I really enjoyed each of the books – I will say that this one is probably my least favorite of the series but only because it takes place outside the band and the others they were on tour so we got more of the other band members. I’m still giving it a 4 star rating though because it was still a fantastic read and I highly recommend you check out this entire series.

Sway is the last man standing alone in the band, all the others have married off. He’s house sitting for a friend for a few months and his new, extremely shy, neighbor Ryan has caught his eye. Ryan is a romance author (who happens to have been mentioned one of the previous books – LOVED that connection) who enjoys her quiet life just her and her dog. Until Sway comes along and worms his way into her heart. Sway manages to pull Ryan out of her shell and persuades her to go on a mini road trip with the band where they fall more in love each day.

This story had a really strong plot line and a great flow, I really enjoyed reading this author and can’t wait to see what she puts out next!

when the play boy falls.... he falls hard !

this easily got to the top of my " favourit books " list ! i couldn't put it down.

sway's love and adoration for ryan was just so heartwarming and sweet .
i highlighted the crap out of my ebook reader , honestly every moments between those two reached to my heart and pulled at it .

we got to see the mature side of Sway and I LOVED EVRY SECOND OF IT, the way he understood her without her having to explain anything , the fact that he gave her space with no judgement when he sensed that she was second away from freaking out was everything !

some of my favourit lines :

" everytime she revealed just a little bit more of herself he felt himself fall, trip, stumble into her endless depth "

"you're lost in that complicated head again , you don't have to come out, but you could let me in "

" sometimes you have to mix some of the boldest colors to get the right shade of you "

Wow! Lets just start with WOW!!

I really thought my favorite book in the Double Blind series was "The Hope That Starts". I think this one is now tied for the most favorite spot. Heidi Hutchinson does a great job not only telling a great love story with Sway as the hero. She does a great job wrapping up the series as well!! I find is super awesome and refreshing that she gives us that since of closure. I am not sure why it feels so refreshing but it does.

That being said I would love to read about Miles and the other kids that are part of the Double Blind Study family.

You could probably read this as a stand alone but don't! Start the journey at the beginning with "Learn To Fly". Meet the boys in the band. With these books you get more than a backstage pass. It's a little sad this is a work of fiction because Double Blind Study seems like the type of band I would love.

So far the final novel in the DBS series, and after Hope (Harrison / Zelda) my second favorite. I'll admit I have a soft spot in my heart for Sway and his shenanigans, so it was a treat to get a look behind the easygoing facade.

Ryan was an interesting counterpart, and I was curious if (or how) all the somewhat complicated family matters could be resolved.

The only thing that didn't make much sense to me was the Liam sub-plot, but that's probably just me. :)

All in all another great read and a satisfying finale to the series!

Amazing series

It's been a long time since I purchased books but this entire series was way beyond my expectations and so worth it. This band, their friends, families and wives will keep you reading until the late hours. They will keep you laughing, make you cry, Google David Grohl, pull out old vinyls, and take you into their world for awhile. Double Blind Study series is a must read for anyone who loves music and a wonderful love story. Looking forward to her next series!
