Who Dares, Runs has running as a central theme, but it is about so much more than that pursuit. It is a book about personal development, it is about having the courage to step into life's arena, it is about seizing life and it is about having wonderful ambitions. This book is as much about running as Moby Dick is a book about a Whale. It's a remarkable story of courage and inspiration, containing precious insights into how the human existence can be transformed by breaking out of our comfort zones. It is a story that begins in 1995 but contains 15 years of adventure thereafter. It narrates how the author went from being four stone overweight and a heavy smoker to undertaking an epic marathon challenge that many deemed impossible - 32 Marathons in 32 days.
"Isn't it often the case that the thought of doing something is often far more stressful than the physical act?" "It is as easy to see a positive as it is to see a negative in so many of life's experiences" "You wouldn't be human if you did not have a weak moment sometime during a race like this"
It's a very easy and quick read. Personally, it's been a great motivation for me. Since I got this book, I've searched about five times to see if such a feat (32 marathons in a row) is really possible, because it sounds like it's fake. Spoiler: It isn't. For this reason, since I started reading this book, I've been constantly asking myself: "If Gerry can run 32 marathons in a row, what can't I do?" And I think that's more than enough motivation.
