Freya Vallen writes adult fiction about ordinary people finding themselves in rather less ordinary situations.

She likes writing about sex, but believes it needs to mean something. Not necessarily something profound or life-changing every time — sometimes it means love, discovery, friendship, trust, curiosity or freedom, and sometimes it simply means two people having an extraordinarily good time together. What matters is that it belongs to the people experiencing it and to the story around them.

Just as importantly, Freya wants those experiences to feel lived rather than narrated from a distance. She writes close to her characters, trying to put the reader beside them — watching something that feels as though it could really be happening or, better still, experiencing the moment with them. Bodies, thoughts, awkwardness, attraction, laughter, uncertainty and consequences all belong to the same experience.

Her stories range from English villages and wilderness rivers to sailing boats and adventures further from home, but they share a fascination with people: friendships that change shape, relationships that acquire unexpected possibilities, groups that develop their own rules, and the considerable gap between what sensible adults intend to do and what actually happens.

Her characters have jobs, marriages, children, responsibilities, insecurities and histories. They make questionable decisions, occasionally excellent ones, and frequently discover that other people — and sometimes they themselves — are more complicated than expected.

Freya writes for adult readers who enjoy character-led stories that are warm, explicit, playful and unconventional, where intimacy is part of life rather than something that happens when the rest of the story stops.

Now That’s A Train I'd Like To Ride.

I've never read anything like this. This author is breaking new ground. Yes, her writing style is unique and sometimes annoying. But the eroticism is off the charts.

In this one everything takes place in the first class car on a train. Most likely Victorian era. And here's where this author focuses, everything takes place in full view of everyone else.

I'm continually shocked at the sexual scenarios she comes up with.

A husband and wife, their friend a widow and her ward, a cavalry officer, a married woman travelling alone, and the young woman who serves the passengers in this first-class carriage. All but the officer and the servant are titled. To pass the long hours a game of cards commences with startling rules. The vernacular is proper English and sometimes seems out of place considering the activities, but it is not. It works. By the time they pull in life’s have been changed, roles reversed, friendships created, marriages strengthened as well as cast in doubt. Secrets are reveals and scandalous behaviors exposed. It is one of the best books I’ve read in some ti0me.
