Julie Anderson never wanted to leave her life and friends behind in Connecticut, but when her father gets a new job in Texas she discovers her destiny. When she meets the devilishly fallen angel, Nick Landers, her life begins to unravel. Nick is different from the other boys and seems to have a crush on her. Julie soon learns that Nick has taken an oath never to fall in love with an earthly woman. Despite Nick's unhealthy obsession with her, Julie finds herself falling for him. When Julie's mother is killed in a car wreck, Julie realizes her own life is at risk and only fate will decide whether Nick kills or protects her. Fallen is a work of fiction but it contains relevant and controversial issues facing teenagers and young adults today.

I think this Paranormal romance was a good book. I believed the charterers had real typical teenager problems. I didn't move around at all when I was younger so I have nothing to compare this too. But I did feel I was going through what these characters were going through. * I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*
Emily Clarke's Fallen is a short and effective take on teenage romance with ambitious goals that does not fail to live up to its intentions. The protagonist here, Julie Anderson, goes beyond the personification of a real teenager. Depicted as an already semi-morose person, things only get worse for Julie as she has to leave all that she's ever known when her father gets a new gig in Texas. All of this pre-sadness is of course the perfect catalyst to the tumult of the relationship Julie soon finds herself in with the very conflicted fallen angel, Nick Landers.
Finding Nick appears to be the blessing in disguise for Julie regarding the whole the move to Texas thing. He's unlike any other boy she's met before (naturally - he's a Fallen Angel) and seems to be very smitten with plain old Julie. What our titular character does not know is that Nick has taken that pesky oath to never fall in love with a human. We've all been there, am I right?
Julie finds herself drawn to Nick's seemingly inexplicable behaviors. Hot and cold does not being to describe his portrayal. Clarke shines in her chemistry-laden dialogue between the two characters, much more strongly written than the other plot points in the book. The two are believable and in love and, of course, complicated. It's catnip for lovers of the genre.
While the book could certainly use some more fine editing, the guts of a good story is well presented here and I'd like to read more that Emily Clarke has to provide us voracious readers.
When Julie’s dad gets a new job, they relocate to Texas. To say Julie does NOT want to leave her home in Connecticut and move would be an understatement. She is leaving her best friend and possible boyfriend. The high school her parents have enrolled her in in Texas is a private, upper class school, and she doesn’t fit in with her all black wardrobe. She is, however, happy to find on her first day a kindred soul – another person who doesn’t fit in. Together, they meet for coffee, smoke cigarettes and talk about boys. Especially one in particular – Nick.
“The Fallen” is a definite YA book and deals with issues concerning today’s teens. I really like the way her cutting problems were addressed and Julie’s own feelings. I thought the author treated the parents as almost a nonentity. Even after the cutting scare, they were never around. Is yoga really more important than your daughter? If your child is obviously having problems, why is she always alone in her room?
The book is mostly written in conversation. Normally I would like this as I don’t particularly care for a page written to describe what someone is wearing. However, at times it was hard to figure out who was saying what. And there often wasn’t much notification when the “scenes” were changing. As a warning, this book ends on a cliff hanger.

Julie Anderson didn't want to leave her life in Connecticut, but her father got a job in Texas. She is soon enrolled in a private school and discovers she does not fit in...until she meets a kindred spirit. Julie and her new friend hang out, smoke cigarettes and talk about boys. One in particular...Nick. Nick is a fallen Angel who has taken a vow to never fall in love, especially with a human being. When Julie's mother is killed in an accident she soon learns her fate lays in the balance and is falling for Nick.
Emily Clarke has written an amazing YA book. It was well written and I didn't find many grammar mistakes. Although to me, personally, those don't bother me. Fallen does address many teen issues and they are dealt with in a serious manner and doesn't make light of the situation. Ms. Clarke also has a way of telling a story and pulling the reader in and making you feel a spectator during the event. There were some spots that I couldn't tell who was talking but once I re-read through I got it better. That is what makes a book good you can read and re-read and still find things to discover. A warning though this is a cliffhanger, but well worth the read and continue the series a discover more in Emily Clarke's world of Nick and Julie and whats to come next.

Julie is a young girl that is being forced to move with her family to a new state, and she was already having emotional issues. Julie suffers from depression and the move just makes it worse. After Julie and her family moves, she makes a new friend and life starts looking up... and then she meets Nick. Nick is a fallen angel, and he made a vow to his father, yet he decides for Julie he will break that vow. For Julie however, this isn't a good thing. Nick causes havoc beyond her dreams and she has to fight to be herself around him. Fallen has a lot of potential to be a fantasticlly good read, but there are some parts that aren't quite there. The drama between the characters is slightly lacking and in some places harder to read. As I read, I hoped that the pace would pick up and that I could see more reasoning behind characters actions but it never happened. The story however is amazing. The backbone of the story is fantastic with a web of creativity that I rarely read. I just missed the meat of the story. I want to read book 2 ASAP so that I can see what happens next! ~Dowie
This book was a page turner I read in one day. Great for both teens and adults. Emily Clarke shows promise for her first endeavor into the teen romance series.
I really hate leaving bad reviews but this book was just plain horrible. The story was very poorly written, the characters dull and uninteresting, the plot pretty much nonexistent, and the dialogue flat and silly. It feels as if it was written by a child. I honestly can't think of a single thing I liked about it. The 'heroine' was so vapid! Add to it that it was obviously not properly formatted for Kindle which made it even more difficult to read. Believe me when I say I wish I hadn't bothered. That was an hour of my life I'll never get back, but I hate leaving things unfinished.
Really great story, this one managed to grab ahold of me and captivate from the very beginning, and I knew as soon as I started writing that this was a great one. The writing was very clever in the way that it told the story, and I loved the characters and the way they were built around each other. All in all, this one was amazing and really caught my imagination.
Can't wait for the next book, and anyone who likes really dramatic stories will love this!
Need an exciting new read? Fallen by Emily Clarke is indeed the most intriguing novel readers will find. A paranormal romance tale of how one woman falls in love with a man who can either save or destroy her. Every page keeps readers turning, wondering what happens next and what will the final decision be. Julie Anderson is taken away to move with her family to Texas. She doesn't want to go but when she's there..she meets a fallen angel. Nick is an angel who cannot fall in love with a human being and yet he does. Julie soon as her own issues to deal with such as her mother's death and her life spinning out of control. Only one person in her life has the final choice on what happens next. What choice will Nick make?
Fallen is a stunning story that shows us readers how the most impossible things can happen to us. Falling in love with a man who is a fallen angel and an angel falling in love with human is not possible. Yet, Emily Clarke defies the norm and goes out and beyond to create a realistic and beautifully woven story. It's hard not to fall in love with the characters. Julie draws readers in by her issues that we all can sympathize with. Then there's the dark and enticing fallen angel, Nick. What's not to love? His struggle with his feelings towards Julie opens up a flaw that makes him even more irresistible. I loved this tale and the suspense is enough to lure readers in forever. I highly recommend this to all. A perfect read for everyone. Overall, I rate it a five out of five stars.

Julie's relationship with her parents is already strained and when her dad's job takes them to Texas, it doesn't bode well for their already fragile relationship.
Now I understand Julies frustration and melancholy about moving but her sassy attitude and disrespect towards her parents got my back up and I felt like giving her a damn good hiding !
The move isn't all bad ,her new room is awesome and she makes a new friend at her "preppy" private school. Julie and Stephanie seem to hit it off rather well sharing a love of coffee , cigarettes and boys , well one in particular ....Nick , Stephanie has a crush on Nick but it seems Nick is more interested in Julie ,actually it borders on obsession.
Nick isn't all he seems to be, he's a fallen angel and he's not to fall in love let alone with a mere mortal like Julie.
There were a few tense moments for me but I must commend Emily Clarke on the way she broached the subject of cutting ,its a very real and very frightening thing and so many people are out there that need help not judgment , compassion not ridicule.
Be warned the ending if Fallen is a bit of a cliffie. Looking forward to Book #2 I'm curious to see what unfolds with Nick.

Fallen, an interesting read. The story and the characters are interesting. The characters, Nick and Julie are interesting characters. At first, I was kind of not liking the characters, especially Julie because of how she dealt with things in life. But as the story goes, she redeemed herself.. Julie, a girl who is going through a teenage phase in which rebellion is common. She's having an issue about feeling something and with the moving, she will be trying to cope up and have a fresh start. Nick, a mysterious guy who captures the interest of Julie. As the two started to be friends, mysterious things happened to Julie's life. Things get more complicated when another mysterious guy appeared and is saying things that made Julie not sure who to trust. The way the story ended is good. I'm excited to see what will happen next to Julie!
In a word: Horrible. The protagonist, Julie, is a petulant, disrespectful, rude teen who is addicted to cutting herself. The antagonist, Nick, is a Nephilim. He is stalker, murderer and, at the end (which is a cliffhanger), he is also a rapist. All of the characters are underdeveloped and lack depth. The choppy writing makes it difficult to read. There’s no flow to the story.
