SHRIEKS & GIGGLES
The tickets are sold out. The doors are locked. The show is about to begin.

It's 1992. There are no cell phones. No social media. No way to call for help.
Five years ago, Buffy and her brother, Chaz stumbled into an abandoned meat-packing warehouse and witnessed a brutal murder. By the time the police arrived, the killer had vanished, the body was gone, and the only evidence left behind was their fear. No one believed what they saw.
Now the warehouse has reopened as Shrieks and Giggles, the haunted attraction in Brightwater, Oklahoma that so many are lining up for a night they'll never forget.
For Buffy... It's the place her nightmare began.
Behind the flashing lights, painted smiles, and fake scares, someone has been waiting for them to come back. Someone who remembers. Someone who's been planning the perfect finale.

Mikey the Clown

~Elisa D. Daniels

one, two, Mikey's coming for you

three, four, he's hiding behind that door

five, six, don't fall for his tricks

seven, eight, you've sealed your fate

nine, ten, he's always smilin'

eleven, twelve, no one will hear you yell

thirteen, fourteen, smile before you scream

fifteen.....

oh wait, it's too late.

~Karen J

Mikey the Clown by Elisa D. Daniels is everything a horror movie fanatic craves in a classic slasher. It captures the pulse-pounding tension, unforgettable kills, and creeping dread that made the genre a staple, while wrapping it all in a nostalgic 90’s atmosphere.

Five years ago, on Halloween night, siblings Buffy and Chaz dared each other to explore an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of town. What they discovered was the stuff of nightmares: a clown brutally stabbing a woman in the basement. But when police arrived, there was nothing. No body. No blood. No clown. Their therapist dismissed it as a shared fabrication.

Now, Halloween has come full circle.

A one-night-only invitation to Shrieks & Giggles, a haunted attraction inside that very warehouse, lands in Buffy and Chaz's hands. Buffy has never forgotten what happened that night, while Chaz insists none of it was real. Reluctantly, Buffy joins her brother and a group of friends, but the moment they step onto the property, old memories come rushing back. Every instinct tells her to leave. Instead, the nine friends head inside, expecting the bomb diggity Halloween experience of their lives.

Daniels has always excelled at character development, but her leap into horror elevates that strength even further. Buffy anchors the novel beautifully. She's scarred by her past, fiercely protective of those she loves, and far stronger than she realizes. She doesn't want to be at Shrieks & Giggles, but she'll never let her brother face it alone. As the danger escalates, so does her determination.

Then there's Mikey. He's relentless, terrifying, and seems to thrive on fear itself. Daniels cleverly keeps readers questioning exactly who, or even what, Mikey really is. The supporting cast is equally impressive. They're far more than expendable horror victims. Each has a distinct personality, believable motivations, and enough depth that every loss carries weight. Daniels makes you care, which only raises the stakes.

The pacing is razor sharp. Once the doors close behind the group, Mikey the Clown barrels forward with mounting suspense, claustrophobic tension, and relentless dread. Flashing lights, fog-covered floors, echoing footsteps, sinister whispers, creepy doll tea parties, and killer clowns lurking around every corner create the perfect haunted-house nightmare. The 90’s setting only amplifies the isolation. No smartphones. No quick calls for help. Just instinct, courage, and survival.

When the action begins, Daniels unleashes twist after twist. Everyone becomes suspicious. Trust evaporates. Every hallway could lead to freedom... or straight into Mikey's waiting hands. Just when you think you've figured it out, the story yanks the rug out from under you. The final revelation lands like a sledgehammer, leaving you flipping back through earlier chapters wondering where the clues were hiding all along.

Mikey the Clown by Elisa D. Daniels releases August 20, 2026, on Amazon and Kindle. Don't stand around outside the warehouse thinking you'll come back later. Grab your copy before Mikey comes looking for you.

I would like to thank Elisa D. Daniels for the opportunity to Alpha/ Beta/ARC read Mikey the Clown. As always, all opinions of my own volition, Karen Brooks, aka The Tx Lit Chic. I have not been promised any compensation, current or future, by the author or publisher for a fair and honest review of Mikey the Clown.

“Mikey the Clown” by Elisa D. Daniels is nightmare fuel. From the moment I started, a sense of dread settled in and never let up. Every page oozed with eerie tension, making me question what horror was waiting around the next corner. Even the creepy illustrations introducing each room at the beginning of the chapters had me jumping, they perfectly reinforced the terror lurking throughout the story.
This is the kind of horror that gets under your skin, feeds on your imagination, and leaves you looking over your shoulder long after you've finished. If you enjoy unsettling, atmospheric horror that refuses to let you feel safe, this one’s for you. Just make sure to read with the lights on!

Holy moly. Thrills and kills all around. If you have an aversion to clowns…I recommend anyway because otherwise why are you here.

Buffy and her friends get invited to a very special haunted house. The backstory to this spot Buffy knows all too well. Or so she thinks. This warehouse not only has a creepy history, and she knows something terrible happened there. She saw it. Or maybe she didn’t. Even her brother says she’s remembering wrong. Either way why not go with your friends, right?

Well as you can imagine things go from bad to worse very quickly. Breaking the horror movie rules almost immediately someone gets separated. One by one her friends disappear. Reappear. Everything she sees can’t be fake right? Well. That’s about as messed up as my mind is right now as well.

Elisa really nailed it on this one. It’s got all the makings a great ‘90s era horror movie. The scene she paints. All the way down to the language and slang that was used. I felt like I was back in high school again. And this one jumps right into psych thriller as well. I’m not sure what’s scarier. The clown. Or the absolute paranoia of being able to trust no one.

If you wanna raise the blood pressure and stay up all night to get through just one more chapter, grab this one immediately.

Wow!!! I had the pleasure of being an ARC reader for this book and man it didn’t disappoint! I’ve never been a fan of clowns and this story proved I’m still not a fan! I loved this whole story line the clowns, the haunted warehouse and the group of friends going together on Halloween! The nightmares were crazy! The shock at the end was mind blowing! I’m going to order this one as soon as it comes out! Must read! Way to write an amazing book Elisa Daniels! Thank you

Wow, just wow. This book left me completely speechless; I enjoyed the story so much that I lived every single moment of it from start to finish. I love creepy clowns, and this story delivered exactly the adrenaline rush I needed for Spooky Season.

Elisa D. Daniels did an outstanding job bringing these characters to life—they are now living rent-free in my mind and heart! I’ve always said that you have to be extra careful around haunted attractions ⚠️; you never truly know what might be hiding in the dark waiting to strike. While reading, I kept imagining myself as one of the characters, fighting alongside them just to survive.

Every single chapter is a doorway into the unknown and the deeply creepy, which is precisely why this story works so well. But let's talk about that plot twist—it hit me so hard in the face that I think it still hurts! 😂 That’s exactly how I love my plot twists: completely breathtaking and leaving you unable to catch your breath. Clowns have always been a dark mystery to me, which is why I’m so drawn to them.

If you are looking for a Halloween read 🎃 that will leave you speechless and terrified, this book is definitely for you. Huge congratulations to the author on an incredible job and wishing her so much success—she has officially earned a spot on my favorite authors list alongside Jessica Lynn Sorensen!

P.S. If you visit a haunted attraction this Spooky Season: DO NOT TRUST ANYONE. That's all. 🤡🎪💥

Mikey The Clown by Elisa Daniels

Thank you so much for the opportunity to read this as an ARC!!!! I do not take this lightly nor for granted!

First and foremost, here's a disclaimer: I don't do clowns 🧏🏽‍♀️🫣👀 Ever since IT was released (the first one with Tim Curry. This new Pennywise made it even worse. Way way WAYYYYYYYYYY worse!), I don't do the clowns 🤣✌🏽 HOWEVER, because it's my sister, I pushed through for her! That's love right there!

It's around spooky season and Buffy declares up and down that she, along with her brother, had witnessed a clown unaliving someone last year but people kept thinking that she didn't see it. Especially her brother. Then one day, Buffy and her friends receive invitations to this get together called Shrieks and Giggles (SN: Not me screaming HECCCCCCCCK NAW! AIN'T NO WAY! I just would've been THAT friend and would've been sitting at the house. I would've been A-OK!) 🤣

These folks showed up at this place and all chaos broke out. You got mannequins, porcelain dolls, the works! AIN'T👏🏽NO👏🏽WAY! If I go in a haunted anything, I'm tearing EVERYTHING up! All of it! And then it's a clown on the loose?! Nope. No. Nada. Nuh-un! Nunnadat (aka None of that!) 🤣 Naw!

If you like something that will have you up looking sideways, this is it! This wonderful tale will be released on August 20th! Add it! Get it! Work it out! 🎉👀🥳

Oh Mikey The Clown. Where do I begin?!
First of all, the main character is named Buffy. Could it BE any more 90’s? (said in my best Chandler Bing voice.) 😂 Buffy and her friends head into a haunted attraction inside an old warehouse where Buffy witnessed a murder the year before. Nobody believed her, but now she’s back, and this time, the terror is real.

This one is creepy, claustrophobic, and packed with twists. I loved the 90’s setting, the eerie haunted-house atmosphere, and the fact that the characters actually felt like real people instead of just slasher victims. And Mikey, he will haunt your dreams and make you hate clowns even more. Just saying. 🤡

I LOVE all the little details Daniels puts in her books. From the nods and winks to the decade, to the dialogue, to the TV Guide-esque cover and artwork throughout the book. You can tell this book was written by someone who not only loves horror, but truly loves what they do.

There were a few parts where the pacing slowed down. Which in hindsight maybe that's for the best. To give us, the audience a bit of a breather. But I just wanted to note that.

This book is perfect for any late evening Augtober haunt, or basically any time you’re in the mood for some creepy old school horror vibes. Thank you to Elisa D. Daniels for a gifted ARC. As always, my thoughts and opinions are my own.

There's something inherently unsettling
about clowns, and Mikey the Clown leans into that fear with a nostalgic, old-school slasher vibe. Set inside a haunted attraction, the story transforms what should be a night of harmless thrills into a terrifying fight for survival, where every corner hides another reason to panic.

What I loved most was the intensity of this book. The suspense rarely let up, and each new twist or terrifying encounter had me eager to keep reading. It was one of those stories that constantly made me want "just one more chapter," and I couldn't wait to see what would happen next.

The haunted house setting was easily my favorite part of the novel. The dark, twisting corridors and eerie atmosphere created a constant sense of tension, making it impossible to know who—or what—might be lurking nearby. As people began disappearing and escape became increasingly impossible, the suspense steadily intensified, and I found myself eager to see who would make it out alive.

Mikey the Clown was an entertaining horror novel packed with creepy moments, brutal kills, and enough paranoia to keep me guessing. If you're a fan of sinister clowns, haunted attractions, and classic '90s-style slasher stories, this is definitely one to add to your reading list.

I received an Advanced Review Copy of this book from the author and I am leaving my honest review.

Mikey the Clown delivers exactly what you'd expect from a creepy '90s slasher—dark hallways, unsettling clowns, and the constant feeling that something is watching from just out of sight. The haunted attraction setting was easily the strongest part of the book, turning what should have been harmless fun into a nightmare where every scream could be real.

The atmosphere was tense, and there were several moments that genuinely made me uneasy. As the exits disappeared and people started vanishing, the story built a sense of dread that kept me turning the pages. I just wish the pacing had stayed consistently tight throughout, as there were a few slower sections that pulled me out of the suspense.

Even so, the creepy setting, bloody kills, and lingering feeling that no one was safe made this an entertaining horror read. If your looking for a quick read and you love sinister clowns, haunted attractions, and old-school slashers with a chilling sense of paranoia, this one is worth checking out.

This is the perfect quick read to add to your Halloween month TBR, especially since the story actually takes place on Halloween!

If you love 90s slashers, this one has all the vibes we know and love, with plenty of nods to the decade. And thankfully, it gives me exactly what I want from a slasher, which is dumb teenagers making dumb decisions. Seriously, some of the choices had me thinking, “What are you doing?!?!” WHYYYYY 😂

One of my favorite parts was getting to go through each room of the haunted funhouse. There was something so fun about seeing what was waiting around the next corner and wondering what was coming next.

We also randomly get POV chapters from Mikey the Clown, and I actually really enjoyed these. They kept that constant feeling of wondering what was really happening and made it harder to figure out who the killer was.

There were a few editing errors throughout, but honestly, they didn’t take away from my enjoyment. This was a fun indie horror read, and you can tell the author had a great time writing it. If you’re looking for a quick, nostalgic slasher to get you in the Halloween mood, definitely give this one a try

A full night of scrares await. Starring MIKEY the Clown.

ONE NIGHT. ONE WAREHOUSE. NO SECOND CHANCES.

Are you ready for Mikey?

Because I’m not quite sure I was reading this ARC.

Mikey doesn’t just haunt the pages, he’ll crawl straight into your nightmares and make you question every clown you’ve ever trusted. What starts as a creepy invitation quickly turns into a horrifying trip through the twisted playground of one seriously disturbed clown.

Set in the 90s, this one delivers the perfect dose of nostalgic horror vibes for anyone who grew up loving that era of creepy, unsettling, what the hell did I just read horror.

This book is creepy. Horrific. Unsettling.

And somehow manages to wrap all of that up in a delicious little blanket before tossing you directly into the clown’s playground.

And trust me…

You do NOT want to be the last one laughing.

So… are you brave enough to enter Shrieks & Giggles?

I’ll see you there.

Just don’t let Mikey see you first.

If you’re a 90’s slasher buff, this is going to be your thing. I had a blast with it.

First off, let’s just talk nostalgia! It’s 1992 No cell phones, no social media, no quick google searches when something goes horribly wrong Just you ,your friends and some questionable decisions.

Honestly, though, it was the cover that grabbed my attention . Who remembers TV Guide? The second I saw it I knew it was immediately going on my tbr pile, just for the nostalgia hit alone.

Then there’s the illustrations at the beginning of some of these chapters. SO GOOD. Don’t know who deserves credit for those but they were also a fun addition, if that was you Ms. Daniels , kudos to you!! I’m particularly partial to “ just stab it” , not sure what that says about me🤷‍♀️? But let’s carry on.

Buffy and her brother witness something horrific years ago, and now the place where it occurred is turned into a haunted attraction. Except the scares aren’t fake, and someone is waiting for them to return to scene.

It’s the perfect book to kick off spooky season, our favorite season off all!🎃😱👻

Elisa Daniels has done it again! Mikey the Clown was an absolute blast from beginning to end! If you're a fan of creepy haunted attractions, creepy clowns, and that nostalgic '90s slasher vibe, this one needs to be on your TBR.

The atmosphere in this book is fantastic. Elisa Daniels does such a great job making the haunted attraction feel unsettling, and there were several moments where I found myself thinking, "Nope...I'd be turning around!" The suspense builds perfectly, and I couldn't stop turning the pages to see what would happen next.

What I loved most was how it captured everything I love about horror—an eerie setting, memorable characters, plenty of tension, and twists that kept me guessing. It feels like the kind of story that would make an amazing late-night horror movie.

If you're looking for a fast-paced horror novel with spooky atmosphere, classic slasher vibes, and plenty of creepy moments, I highly recommend Mikey the Clown. Five stars from me!

This. Was. Insane.

Oh my god?? This is the kind of book I’ve been dying to read!! Creepy ass clowns, that feeling of dread that sits in your gut when you know something is wrong? That’s all I could feel the whole time! If you’re looking for your next blood soaked, paranoia inducing, gore fest read HERE IT IS!!

I had only figured out PART of the twist, and even then I kept second guessing myself because of all the misdirects. I don’t think you’ll ever get me to go to some sketchy haunted attraction now. Especially nothing with clowns. Hard no. Exit stage left.

Buffy’s friends were all kind of assholes to her, so I don’t feel bad about most of them. Even her brother?? That scene… I wish it had come later in the book and we got a bit more of a revelation there, but I understand there was a lot of trauma to be had and he was only the beginning.

I need everyone to read this.

Wow! 10/10 my new favorite book by Elisa! This was the creepiest book that nightmares are made from! I absolutely ate this one up!

Listen I know I say that every book I read of hers is my fav but this one takes the cake. One of my biggest fears has always been haunted houses, and this book take you on a journey through a haunted warehouse with clowns and creepy things that most people are afraid of. Think of like hunger games but with slashers and creepy clowns among loads of other things.

Creepy clowns and abandoned warehouses just took on a whole new meaning! I absolutely love Elisa’s books and her writing, she knows how to write a thrilling book that will make you have to pause and think. Or make you yell out loud DONT GO IN THERE or DONT TURN AROUND! Lol

clowns are always evil

I have never met a clown I liked and Mikey sure as hell isn’t one! Is it the paint? The mask? The autonomy of hiding their face that makes them evil? Are they born that way? Spawn from hell?
Buffy has a memory of a clown killing somebody when she was younger but everyone thinks she made it up! Now in college, the invitations start arriving to the haunted warehouse for Halloween where she swears it happened. She doesn’t want to go but peer pressure wins out and she and 8 of her friends will find out just how real, how evil clowns really are! Trapped in the warehouse, crazy rooms, lights that go off, are those really method actors?? I would have been throwing stuff, swinging, kicking, yelling “oh, hell no! I’m out”!! Stupid ass clowns!!!

If you are looking for a quick, fun, creepy horror read, that throws you back to the 90s slasher vibes, I recommend this book. A group of friends head off to the local haunted house. A haunted house that just happens to be in an old slaughterhouse with a reputation for being a place where someone was murdered. Buffy actually witnessed a murder there last year but no one believes her. When Buffy and her group of friends enter the haunted house, they realize pretty quickly this is gonna be a night of terror.

This book literally gave me the exciting anxiety of actually going into a haunted house! Which i love to do! And creepy clowns are the worst! But then they also give you the feeling of what is actually real or fake? What can you believe to be real? Buffy is learning to see what's real or not. Very hard to believe reality and not be scared to death. I loved reading this book because of the scary anxious feeling it gave me and it felt real! And makes you think how crazy people really are and are haunted houses fake...... or real??

I absolutely loved this book! It’s definitely one of my favorites by this author. If you love creepy-as-hell horror slashers, this is a must-read!

There are so many eerie, unsettling moments throughout the story, with twists and creepy details that will crawl straight into your mind and pitch a tent there forever. I’m still thinking about this book.

I didn’t trust a single character, which made the whole thing even more unsettling. The ending completely shocked me!

If you’re looking for a disturbing, creepy, can’t-stop-thinking-about-it kind of horror read, pick this one up!

This book was top tier creepy. I love this story so much. This book just reminds why I never go in haunted houses. When Buffy and her friends get invitations to a haunted house do they really want to go? Buffy doesn't want to until her friends talk her into it. Only then the friends get separated and then she cant find them. The twists in this were so good.

I read the entire book in about four hours because I couldn’t put it down.
Mikey the Clown is one of those books that grabs you early and just keeps tightening its grip. It’s eerie, tense, and deeply creepy.

A circus-sy / haunted house attraction is something that could easily feel over-the-top and overdone but instead it felt unsettling and strangely believable.
Mikey is the kind of character that instills fear from the get go, and keeps you in that hold the entire time, and the story uses horror, suspense and fear much differently than I expected. Its very cleverly done.

I also loved that the pacing never really dipped. Every chapter gave me a reason to keep going, and I was constantly trying to work out what was going to happen next. The ending was satisfying without feeling predictable, which is something I really appreciate in horror.

If you enjoy horror that is genuinely unsettling but also incredibly readable, I’d highly recommend this. I absolutely loved it and can already tell it’s going to be one of the books I keep thinking about long after finishing it.
